Hey Weez & DH;
How's everybody doing?
Sorry that I have not been around for awhile, but it was due to things beyond my control....been in and out of the hospital a couple of times :(, and when I got out last time I needed some 24hr nursing and because of where I live, I needed to stay at my son's house.
I'm back, feeling good, looking forward to a killa LED build soon.:thumbsup:
I'll be typing more at you soon.

No problem. Seems like the opening kinda builds a house of cards, and when somebody pulls out a card the house collapses according to the established lines of force.
I reread "en passant" so I don't make un faux pas on dat one.
P - KN4 to back my lonely pawn. Prolly good money after bad...;)

Mrs. 'zard just bought me a terrific present.
I was dissappointed wit' da bong, too lazy to roll, and starting to really like the new vaporizer at 352 F.
But, still insulting my lungs on a daily basis with my beloved glass pipes.

Roots? How d'ya tell? I saw a lady jerk a start outta the dirt to show me forming roots, which made me cringe. I've been keeping it in a pot of (barely moist) sandy soil, inside, in dim light. I'll bet they're trying to form, though. I was under the impression this takes a long time on the mainland.

K2 is where I'll go with my king. Links my rooks and puts a little more cannon fodder in front of da king. And he can support the pawn chains after my next move: K - KB2
Most important, symmetry is maintained. :D (A yin/yang smiley would work here; I imagine I'll find it with the Coco and Michigan MMJ fora... :pimp:)

That there, is my KR.
Jus' put it back where it was, Q7, and move my QR from QR1 to KN1
(A few posts back, I warned ya 'bout dis one. "Either road, My next move is QR - KB1")
I'm tryin' to protect my only pawn on a black square at KN5.
Figured you might attack it and give check in the bargain.
That would make me put my king where I'd like him to be anyway, but I no wanna give up dat pawn.
(That's what I meant by the "free ride" hint.)
Jus' a li'l side-step in da plan, man.
I'm presently using da KR to cripple both your rooks and harrass your king.
Jus leave da KR on my Q7 while I mug your bishop wit' my QR.
:D
Are you seeing the poetry of the game now?:jointsmile:
I was trying to show how to BEST use a Queen.
Most books advise holding her in reserve and then un-leasing her power on a sparsely populated board.
You brought her out early, so, rather than take her and leave a partial lesson. I neutralized her for many moves with a knight threat.
Your queen was seriously under-employed by having her strength squandered on a static threat.
(During that time she had time invested for her development but had less power than a bishop.:))
Then I traded my queen, for your gasoline.:cool:
Then used that gained tempo to avenge my queen and hammer your king. :thumbsup:
It is a risky business.
If you lose momentum in da middle of a coup,
it does not go well for you. - W.:asskick:
Hint;
Grab the lead from white, and run with it.
You can still win this game if you manage that.:hippy:

That helps, thanks. Every time I threw her in early da sharks chased her. I figgered if she just putta toe in da drink...
But she's so valuable it's a bargain for your opponent to sacrifice virtually any piece, and some combinations, to take her. Hard to defend against a sewer-side attack.
Sorry, I shoulda been keeping up on the diagrams / pics as well...things were actually going good until the temporal deck started getting shuffled..but I got that new 'puter :cool: and half my crap's plugged into it, half into the old PC. Inconvenient till I get things settled in better. The only internet access is via the "work" computer 'cos Goddess needed the router in her lair.

Better to immobilize, than capture her.
Usually less expensive too.
But the real lesson was.
Most opponents can not resist a queen sacrifice.
Even when they know it must be bait.
In this case, it set up a harmless looking pawn gambit.:D

Hey, I found something that might help my eccentric friend with his grafting project. :weedpoke: I don't understand the orientation of the cuts / grafts, though...the bold section. (This is from the old Marijuana Botany by Clarke.) Can you figure out what he's trying to describe? I can't picture it. Maybe this has been de-bunked, because I'm not too thrilled at the prospects for a second scion's survival higher up the same stem without a recovery period. Until I understand the technique he's describing, at least...thanks...:thumbsup:
Grafting of Cannabis is very simple. Several seedlings can be grafted together into one to produce very interesting specimen plants. One procedure starts by planting one seed ling each of several separate strains close together in the same container, placing the stock (root plant) for the cross in the center of the rest. When the seedlings are four weeks old they are ready to be grafted. A diagonal cut is made approximately half-way through the stock stem and one of the scion (shoot) seedlings at the same level. The cut portions are slipped together such that the inner cut surfaces are touching. The joints are held with a fold of cellophane tape. A second scion from an adjacent seedling may be grafted to the stock higher up the stem. After two weeks, the unwanted portions of the grafts are cut away. Eight to twelve weeks are needed to complete the graft, and the plants are maintained in a mild environment at all times. As the graft takes, and the plant begins to grow, the tape falls off.

K - Q5?
Kinda new territory for me, here...
Me as well.
It's a very empty board.
Someone has usually resigned by now.
The white pawn/bishop unit is stable and safe.
There's no way to lure, or chase them apart.
Same could be said for the black bishop/pawn, if not for the queen promotion threat.
White merely takes out the bishop,
P - R6 steady as she goes.
Then out-maneuvers the black king to take the black pawn.
But, If you find a way to prevail, then I learn something big about thinking.:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:
This is where all the computer games lose their edge.
(Less detail to keep track of, fewer rules to apply.)
Machines do not actually "think"
When it comes down to common reasoning, they fail miserably.
As fo' hoomins.
Jus' 'cause I see no hope could mean I'm just not looking at it right, yah?:)
Subtle use of the Queen's power is what made this game.
Direct attack, berserker style is easy to anticipate and defend.
But queen schemes with sub-plots will blindside a guy most times.
If this is getting tedious for you now.
I'll offer a draw and you get first move.:D

No time to start a fresh game ATM, I shouldn't even be enjoying myself piddling around online. (Checking in on the board definitely got to be a habit when I swore off the local print media due to their incompetence. I have Cdot with my coffee instead now. The local broadcast "journalists" are still good for comic relief, though. Hilarious. :( ) Anyway, I should be terribly busy even now, but I'm a slacker and a procrastinator. Already an aggresive grower in soil, I plan to coco it through veg, then give it a beeg bucket for bloomin'.
Got a 'speriment going to see if it is worthwhile to transplant while in flower.
Convention says they stop growing roots when budding.
I'm watching my bloomer girls root there li'l butts off while they bud.
And when the roots hit the water, shazam!
No more ratty looking fan leaves. Fatter, denser buds
The next side by side will then cut back on nutes with one and push 'em onna odder one.
Then compare taste quality through curing.
My last harvest of da sunburn, I kept it at about 1,100 ppm. right to the wire and the taste is outstanding.
It is curing now at 73 degrees F. and 63% RH.
[attachment=o241303]
Those li'l in-da-jar meters are tits!
I'll be able to keep both samples at the same R.H. through the cure.
I'm thinking that all that "Flush for taste" advice is just more Hand-me-down horse hockey.
Again, we shall see what we observe.

Nice surprise, JH x 4. Pretty sure I've never seen it. You will, of course, need a tasting panel including some discriminating palates! :D
I've wound up transplanting from 3gal to 5gal pots 2-4 weeks into flower, but mostly cause the plants got so dang big they needed a bigger watering trough.
In soil, I got some small root exploration into the new medium, but generally, I could peel the new medium right off the old rootball at harvest. As one might expect, coco worked significantly better. Interested to see yer results with a full hydro experience. No drag on those roots whatsoever.
That reminds me: I was reading a label at the grow shop - mighta been a Canna product - said that seedlings' roots "catch" (their term) better if the medium's not saturated wet/slick. Tried it with some tomato seedlings and I believe it worked. The babies don't drink fast enough to dry it out quick-like, so it was safe enough...
I've heard folks complain that an incompletely burned, black crunchy ash indicates the product hasn't been flushed properly (as opposed to a fluffy white ash). There's gotta be a zillion variables, though. Another interesting experiment. Again, you're gonna need some tasters...
Chess: Black might as well resign at this point, as I see how the promotion's gonna happen, and black can't stop it now. I'll shoot ya an e when I get a sec, swamped was part of this month's plan. Maybe you can get somebody to be grist for your mill in the interim. Then I can troll in and comment, and not haveta think. I had to borrow brain cells (mostly ones responsible for memory, and a few for charm, of course) to pull off my latest adventure, and it's not even off da ground yet.
All goes well, though. Hey, how's the little vape holding up? I could use one to preserve my pipes in case James Earl Jones needs a vacation. :wtf: And the chia seeds- how'd that pan out?
Busy, busy. Your friend, Hermie :hippy:

Okay first question. What are the letter and number values that you guys are talking about?
Budgazer
04-17-2010, 03:23 PM
Those sets of letters and numbers are an "old school" notation for our moves.
Lets look at my last move:
B-K3
It consists of the piece being moved
a hyphen and the square we are to move to
Fine, what do the letters and numbers actually mean?
There is a standard notation for each piece:
IIRC
K = King
Q = Queen
R = Rook or Castle
Kn = Knight
B = Bishop
Pn = Pawn
So the Letter is the piece to be moved, then the hyphen, finally the Letter and Number combination describes as follows Letter is the Left/Right position
sort of like Longitude on a map. Each Piece has a starting position and this is the name of that column.
Again the same example:
B-K3
K3 means the King's column.
The number denotes the UP/DOWN relation sorta like Latitude on a map
So, K3 is King's Column, third row.
Makes much more sense when you are looking at a board .
Weezard
04-17-2010, 09:40 PM
E komo mai, Pentigram.
Dat's da real skinny.
An' actually it's a long 5 or six games.
The last game with Dreaded Hermie was superb and wacky.
This one is getting odd, but BG plays well and I prolly just shot a few of my toes off with my last move.
Should be a short game.:(
Only t'ing I can add is that the rank is counted from square one to square 8 for each player.
So my square 1 is your square 8 and your square 1 is my square 8 .
While pondering, I like to switch my head from white to black, an' back. So I get "turned around" quite often and mis-call my moves.
'course the quality of da meds throw a wrench in da works too.:stoned:
That's why we call it stoner chess.:cool:
