Ok, Hound. That makes a lot more sense. Thank you for clearing it up. Yes, I agree, T5 lights are probably better for vegging. I would even consider putting them up over using a MH. I would not flower with either one. HPS for flowering all the way.
I'm not sure how much you've read, but you might have come across ticoblunt's thread on his use of T5's. His vegging plants looked WICKED, but I'm not so sure about the flowering results...we never got to see it to the end.
I'm really glad you got a chance to look through all the thread. I always get a little happier when someone tells me that. That really shows me that you care about learning something and it lets me know that posting the thread in such detail is not a wasted effort. Thanks for that, Hound.
I'm slowly working on starting a new log. I'm not quite sure where to start. I've left some of the pics off the end of this...cuz I'm kind of in a posting rut. Unfortunately, it's been over a month since I've posted anything grow-related. Hopefully, that will change soon. Oh, and don't worry about being able to find the new log...you will see it. :D I wonder if it gets as big as this one. Hehe
Thanks for the clearing up and glad you stopped by.

Your welcome TGF and yes I did read ticoblunt's log on T5. I thought that it was a good grow as well. The light that I mentioned also comes in 2700K so I am trying that for flowering now. Well at least to get seeds anyways.
When I get some more experience with this I would like to try hydroponics but I am not that confident yet. I have kill a few seeds from shock and have used the wrong soil to start but I am learning and things are looking much better now.
Any other good logs for the beginner that you know of? Have read the one by kindprincess quide.

Good luck flowering with those. Post pics of the results if you do. I'm interested to see it.
Hydroponics is not as hard as most people think. You just gotta tune your stuff in precisely and keep your eye on it daily.
Stop shocking your seeds. ;)
Other beginners logs? Hmm...well, there are a bunch. Some are not worth reading, but others are. Read the Cannabis College guide. Maybe read through KD Special's thread, definitely Stinky Attic's, KP's, BlueBear's. There are plenty. Some of those are not necessarily "beginner" logs, but IMO, I don't think you really should be learning from a majority of the "beginners" out there. Learn from experienced peeps. :) Just look around. There's lots of info out there..................LOTS. :D

Hey, Bree. Glad you stopped by...!
As far as keeping the log all in one...I'm probably not going to. Lots of stuff will get lost in a thread that's 50 pages long! No one will read it. :( I'm still planning on starting a second log, though. It will be titled JOURNAL OF A MADMAN II. I just haven't gotten around to posting it.
I was waiting to say anything until I had something done, but it's taking so long, that I might as well let ya know my plans, then when I finally get around to posting it, you will have forgotten, so it will be new stuff. Hehe.
So, I am working on making a slideshow video of the first JOURNAL, highlighting as much of the grow (and pictures) as I can. Then I will put that video link in the first post of the new JOURNAL II and then start from there. Hope it comes soon, if I can find the time. I'm going to work on it hard this week, and HOPE to post something next week.
Til then, you can still find me here...
Thanks for stopping by, Bree...and everyone else who's checkin' in on me!! Shout out to you guys! :D:D

Well, the proxy I've been using was very safe, but now has been compromised. This is sad, as this may limit the amount I will be able to post, if I can post at all anymore. :( All others I've used have been either unreliable or have not allowed me to log in/attach photos, etc, so unless I find another one, I might be gone for good. :sadcrying
I will still put together the next log and the videos I plan to make, and if by chance I can login in the future, I will have some stuff ready to throw down. Maybe this is a good thing as it will give me some time to work on those things, but it will be sad to not be able to chat with you guys like I did before.
See ya sometime soon, hopefully. :o

DAY 149
(for all of you who remember, this number is just an arbitrary number that you need not worry about - but if you care, it is the number of days since the first seed was planted)
The last time we were here, it was DAY 61 in the main flowering room, and we chopped the plants a little early due to hermi problems.
Now this is 3 days after we chopped.
The dry boxes are working like a charm. Look at them dry. :) Hereâ??s a couple shotsâ?¦

17 days old in flower. Looking good. #11 is still hanging aroundâ?¦hanging around. Look how purty sheâ??s getting, though. :)
Number six is still crappy. Looking ok bud-wiseâ?¦but the leaves are droopy and she just doesnâ??t seem happy. Hmmâ?¦
I'm just leaving this in here until I post the chopping of the #11 that's left over from the first rubbermaid box. Then I'll continue the Cab of Life over in the Grow Log thread (JOURNAL OF A MADMAN - Cab of Life)

Here is our #11. This lady need to hurry her ass up and get out of the shower. Donâ??t girls always take too long. :) Getting nice and shiny, though. Kinda like sheâ??s getting ready to go clubbinâ??.
We decided to get her ready for harvestingâ?¦we will most likely do that tomorrow. Cutting of some of the sugar leaves (theyâ??re not even close to yellowing yetâ?¦?).
Edit: funny how we were just talking about this recently weren't we...:o

Mother plant
Doing decent. By decent, I mean sheâ??s still alive.
Most of her bottom leaves have died off due to lack of light. Thatâ??s CFLâ??s for ya. We keep picking them off and exposing the bottom branches. Damn, look how sturdy that biach is, though.
The leaves are a bit droopy. I suspect it she is getting rootbound and possibly suffering from some heat stress. The box was kept at a perfect temp during the whole flowering process of the test-clones so the thermometer was removed and put into the Cab of Life. The fan has been making some noise lately and it is possibly affecting the temperature.

1 â?? Here are some jars (pic 32)â?¦cute, huh? I personally prefer the mason jars to theseâ?¦
2 â?? Not really sure where this bud is fromâ?¦? But itâ??s 11grams. Ha. (33)
3 â?? What the hell happened to my labels? Another unknown 16 grams.
4 â?? We chopped the other one. (#1) The measly remains of number 1. This was the puny one stuck in the middle of the other 4 large ones. It got very little lightâ?¦and as you can see, produced about 1/6th of what the other ones produced, if that. Nice and crystally, but very little bud.

Now the main flowering chamber is emptyâ?¦well, kind of. It still has the planter full of hydroton and rootballs. We must clean this out before we put the next plants in thereâ?¦but we ran out of time to work on this day.
Therefore, we just grabbed our 3 LSTâ??d clones that were clogging up our veg room getting ready to throw in there and stuck them there to start their cycle. Theyâ??re in pots, so theyâ??ll just have to be hand-watered for now. No worries. Weâ??ll clean it out later. No time now. Here is a preview of what will be coming in the JOURNAL OF A MADMAN II!

Oh, man those clones are growing INTO that tube flouroâ?¦they get abused for the betterment of the new genetics. But they will have a better home nowâ?¦moving down to the veg chamber.

I haven't got any proper jars for curing yet... but you'd recommend the mason jars eh? What do you like better, or what don't you like about the ones you have in those picS?
And that's a nice little fan you have in the flower chamber at the bottom. I have the same one... it can create some wind for a little $20 fan!

Hey, CG, man. Yea, those NL & BG seedlings are a bit stretched. If you think they're stretched in those pictures, though, you should check them out before they were transplanted into those larger rockwool cubes. The pics are back a couple pages. I did what I consider an ingenious method of "filling the pot up to the leaves" with rockwool. I even considered making a thread for it on it's own. I still might if I get bored on here, which is very likely to happen considering how DEAD the friggin boards have been lately. Almost to the point where I have less movtivation to come here anymore. :( Everyone is up in the main lounge and no one talks about growin' anymore. It's sad. Meh, life goes on...
Regarding the jars. After a little more evaluation, the jars do the curing process actually a little better than mason jars, but this is because they are not 100% airtight. If you drop or tip over the jar, the top will fall off. This is why I like mason jars better...but there's not THAT much of a difference. If you're not a klutz, you should be fine with either.
Yea, that fan is nice...strong (never been on anything but LOW)...but very loud. :(
I love posting updates...I love seeing other people post updates...but unfortunately my posting of updates have not done much to liven up anything around here. It's soo dead, I feel like I'm in a cemetery. Booo...hiss. ;)

We topped all of the vegging clones in the veg room for bushiness and height. They looked almost too good to top, but we don't have enough room to let them grow that tall. Unfortunately, it would be pointless to keep the tops, even though they are SO healthy looking and would make wonderful clones. :( Just not enough room. Oh, well, rock on anyway! :D
We have two month left before we can flower any of these. That's too long. We are not sure if we will let them grow a little more and then top them...or LST them...curious...
~*~*~*~*~*~
The roots are starting to come out of the rockwool cubes and we cannot have them laying on the planter. Time to clean house and lay down the main substrate (hydroton). Set up drippers...voila! We keep the veg room running with the automated drippers with a 50% veg solution with a bit of superthrive...and some wetting agent.

DO you just empty out teh excess water runoff? 5 mins after you water? I think in my case I could use that extra water to help build some humidity in my CAb. It would evaporate fairly fast cuz of the heat.

Hey GFog, whata thread! Your setups look extremely clean and profesh. props. CFL's seem like a more finesse, eco way to grow, ur makin me wanna try.
Thx 4 the adv btw
-rev
Hey, thanks rev. Not profesh...but I definitely like to keep things clean and tidy. :) CFLs...well, they are ok. You can grow some decent weed with them, but if you are serious and you smoke a bunch :stoned:, HPS is the way to go.
For the occasional toker...or someone with limited funds, CFLs can work. You just have to find a better way to get rid of the heat. In this cab, the heat produced by the 200w of CFLs is such that it raises the ambient temp in the room to unwanted levels, which thus affects the temp in the other cab and this cab itself, if you know what I mean.
CFLs rock for veg, though. :D
Yessir. Say, how do you like that there Superthrive? I just ordered some online, should be getting it by Thursday.
Mrs. G, not sure of the strain on that one you are talking about, but the leaves are cool, huh? I love huge fan leaves. So purty. :hippy:
Superthrive is good additive for veg. It balances out your NPK pretty well and is also good for putting your pH at a proper level, IMO. Also, if you transplant, it's good to help reduce shock. Good for cloning and germing as well. Not good for flowering, though, ya know?

kdspecial, hey thanks, man. Yea, rockwool only here. Dirt is too...dirty. :p And a little less precise, IMO...but I'm not bumping it. It's all good for you guys. I'd like to mess with it someday. The earthy flavor of soil-grown is a plus, too.
As far as the runoff, in the veg & flower cabs, the runoff is drained back into the resevoir, and recirculated. For the CFL cab, there is no drainage. You can have drainage, and that is better, but if you don't, just water the proper amount so as to not have any water sitting at the bottom rotting your roots and you should be fine. If you want more humidity, I'd go with the bowl of water NEXT to the plants. That would be more effective and safer. :)
So...hmmm, I wonder who voted this thread "One Star" to bump it down from ***** to ****...hmmm? They must've gotten up on the wrong side of the bed today. Whoever you are, I invite you to post as to why you thought this thread deserved that low rating. I'm open to all criticism.

Okay, I'll bite. Why is ST not good to use in flower? Can you use it in flower to aid the recovery of a plant that has had pH problems?
TheGreenFog
03-13-2007, 02:44 PM
Okay here goes.
Superthrive is primarily a vitamin B supplement, or Thiamine.
Thiamine stimulates rooting in plants.
Superthrive is most commonly used as a transplanting solution, a couple drops per gallon of water right after moving the plant or rooted clone to a new pot, to help it get established.
It is best to use only during vegetative growth.
Overuse can cause problems, like the roots will grow and the plant will just sort of sit there seeming to do nothing.
The only time it is beneficial to use superthrive in flower is if you are doing a late transplant.
I only use it on ONE watering in that instance.
From the "horse's mouth" ^ ;)
Did YOU vote my thread down, Mrs. G?! :cursing: LOL, just kidding. :D

On another note...I've barely been able to log on recently, but I HAVE been stopping in to see people's updates and new threads, but JEEEEZ its the slowest I've EVER seen it on these boards. EVEN the LOUNGE is slow. Wow. You think it may be because of spring break?? I wonder. Hey fog it's too bad I didn't get to comment on this huge update yet! I bet I remind you of you more every day now that I've gone MIA as well! :D
I might face the same problem here... I couldn't bring myself to top them though so they're growing into the CFLs and getting burnt... argh! Damn plant is just too hearty and vigorous to be held back. :)
oh, and definitely tie those girls up man it's way more fun, and slightly more kinky.

w33dman27 Well, did you look at ALL the pictures? ;) I know it's a long thread, but I explain every part of it for ya. :D
Yes, rockwool (small cubes) into rockwool (larger cubes) into hydroton. Veg is drip system. Flower is Ebb & Flow (Flood & Drain). And since it's come up on another thread recently, I'll add that if you watch Mr. Green's "I Grow Chronic" video from pottv, you will see pretty much how 'mine' is set up. It's a good vid.
Mother & clones are hand watered daily until further technological advances come about. :o LOL
Mrs. G. Thanks...together we shall stamp out anonflamers! :D LOL ;)
~canuckgrower~ Well, you can comment..any time on any thing. I don't want to discourage people from posting just because they think it's old news. If anyone sees anything in my log that they'd like to comment on or inquire about, please feel free to do so, no matter how old the post is. :D
Hey, man, the balance between veg and flowering plants is a delicate one. I had a chat with SantaCruzOrganic one time about it in his old thread. He has a good system of growing what I would call "temporary or cycling mothers." This provides for just the right amount of veg before you flower and minimal need for large veg space...plus you don't end up with a bunch of big plants that you have no where to flower.
Basically, if I remember correctliy, what he does is create small mother plants, which are used to make the desired amount of clones...
OK...well, i typed out what I thought was the exact process, then in as I was getting closer to the end, it seemed a little 'off' somehow and I'd rather not give out incorrect info, so if you wanna know go look up his first grow thread. It's in there. Sorry.

I think what I'll do is clip several clones from the best girl soon, then the best, or perhaps the 2 best clones will become mothers. If I start training when they're young, small and suple and keep them in a proper pot (not a !@$%ing bag) then I could have 1-2 girs like Oprah here, a great little plant that's height efficient!
TheGreenFog

Hey, Chrissy. You know, you really seem like you know what you are doing. I have to compliment you on your plants when I get the chance. :) Ok, no, I'm not exactly talking about Bonsai Moms. Those will give you 50 clones each, easily...and you can keep them for longer and cut them down and they will reveg etc. Have you seen my Bonsai Mom?? It is not as short as would be preferred...but it definitely has some massive bushy growth. One could get 50 clones off of her easily.
But, I'm talking about creating a temporary Mom every time you go from flower to veg and VV. Since you have 2 months between harvests, this is much too long of a period of time to veg a clone. If you are growing from seed, you would want to veg for a period closer to that (2 mos.) to get the plant to maturity...but when working with clones that are from a mature plant, these clones can be viable to flower the moment they are rooted. Most people will still veg them for a couple of weeks, and them flip them.
Now, during the time you have your flowering room occupied, you would be vegging one plant...and growing her into a mother. Pinch the tops a couple times and make her really bush out. You veg her for about 1.5 months or so, and then a couple weeks before your harvest, you clip the desired amount of clones from her (including one for the next cycle) and throw her away. Those clones you have taken will root and be almost ready to flower as you harvest your crop. I think SantaCruz said he vegged them a bit longer (approx. 2 wks) in his flowering room before they were flipped cuz they had just come from barely rooted.
Wow, that was long...:smokin: Thanks for putting that Bonsai Mom link up on my thread though. It's good shtuff, for sure. Everyone should read that! :D How are your harvests coming? You should be right in the midst of them. I'll have to go check you out on your grow.
CG, Oprah's a sexy bitch, for sure. Damn, man that is exactly what you wanna do to make a beautful Bonsai Mum. keep her short. Don't be shy...cut her up if need be. She wont go anywhere but OUT. :) This one got too tall and there was not enought light to keep the bottom leaves alive, so they died off, thus making her a tall Bonsai...but still in the vicinity of a Bonsai Mom. :D
Well, I hope to finish up this thread here soon. I have just a few more to post, then I'll let her die. Seems the boards are picking up a bit cuz this thing is already down in the middle of the page. Seems like people are looking...but not posting. :( Poor me. HAHA :D

No probs, Mrs. G. I think next to setting up your exhaust system and getting the temps and such worked out, timing your veg cycles to coincide with your bloom cycles is probably the next hardest thing. Also, when most people would like to devote the majority of their space to flowering (understandably), it is nice to be able to veg for exactly the right amount of time and exactly the right number of plants. :weedpoke:
You don't want your veg room getting all 'fuckulated' (http://boards.cannabis.com/indoor-growing/100804-womens-war-battle-buds-26.html#post1310892) cuz you over-vegged. ;) Ha

Let's go pay a visit to Mum. :) It would be disrespectful if we didn't. ;)
[attachment=o125851]
She's always been unhealthy...but not to the point of dying. She just been in kind of a holding pattern for a LONG time. She's got the whole Rubbermaid Box to herself, which is about 100 watts of CFLs (4 x 23w), but the plant is so tall and bushy that the light just doesn't penetrate down to the lower leaves.
[attachment=o125852] [attachment=o125853]
Originally she was made to become a mother. This means, she was going to supply clones for future grows. Then I realized that we just don't need that many clones. Plus, I've come to the conclusion that potency and stability do not degrade at a significant rate so that you wouldn't be able to just grow in generations. So, now we've just been keeping the Mom to see how long we can keep her in veg...and also to hopefully flower her if we have the room sometime. It would be sweet to be able to plant her outside to flower. She'd probably grow to 8 or 10 feet!
For now, we'll put her in a larger pot because she seems to be rootbound a bit. No surprise.

The jars are split up mainly because they are all from different plants. The log was started from bagseed and there were 13 original plants. Some came from the CFL box and some from the main HPS flowering room. Also, I think it might have been split into two because there are a pair of medicinal users to share it. the green hazy fog ive been lurking your grow wondering what you have up your sleeve next lol. My girls are on there third day of flower. Woulda been on there second week of flower already but light problems got in the way of that (the lights fixed now).
Hey, man. Well, I'll just have to roll my sleeves up here soon. I'm a procrastinator...and it's not that hard to do when life is busy as well. :) No worries, it'll be soon. I promise...even if it kills me to post something incomplete. :( Hey, hope your girls are doing well. In the mean time, I'm going to chat to see if you're in there. :)
Yo fog,
Hey would you mind becoming a regular to help me out in my grow log i could really use the help/opinions.
Good job on yours btw.
Hawk.

Yo, Hawk. Well, I can make no promises to the regularity of my posting. I try to stay abreast of most threads (namely growlogs) and I have a chance to post every once in a while. No worries, though, there are plenty of peeps on here with much more info than me, but hey, I'll be glad to post things I've read, etc. if I can. :) Good luck on your grow. Get them pics up. Thanks for the props on my log.
 Be cool.

Hey GreenFog
Nice looking ladies you got there.
And you do got a hell of a good female ratio.
I wonder why your 90 days plants are so tall.
Maybe it´s just becasue of the size of your room.
Anyway... wanted to congratulate you .
And thank you also for entering my thread with some much info men.
I have added new things to the twisting plants forum.
And some update pictures too.
I hope your hairy lady buds come fat as possible.

How do you glue your cuban after getting that sht in ?
Good music too !

Hey, chiken. How goes it? Well, first off, the 90 day plants are so tall for several reasons. One, they were not given the proper root space, two they did not receive enough light in the beginning and therefore stretched, and three, they are 90 days into veg man! lol
Should have done several things differently. Keep lights closer, more lights. Top and/or train plants to be bushier (which really wasn't an option due to the lack of horizontal space). And don't veg so long. LOL
I'll be looking at your thread again soon...when I can find it! lol Hurry up and get 50 posts and then you can put a link to your grow in your signature.
Hey, whats so funny about the videos??? Well, that is definitely not a cuban, but any cigar will stick itself when you lick it properly...kinda like licking a lady...do it right and it'll stick. ;)
Be cool, mang. Gotta go.

I looked, but never found it. You probably said, sorry. But what's your grow medium? It looks like there are some sort of brown pellets or rocks for the top layer?
TheGreenFog
07-13-2007, 12:43 AM
You looked, but never found what? The growing medium? I'm confused...sorry.
Anyway, the growing medium is 4" x 4" rockwool cubes sunken into a planter full of hydroton rocks (puffed-up clay pebbles). It is an ebb & flow system, meaning the planter is filled up and drained twice/three times a day. It is considered hydroponics, because the medium provides no nutrients or anything. All nutes are added into the resevoir and then pumped onto/into the medium.
If you want a clearer explanation of how to do this, go to youtube and do a search for "I Grow Chronic." There are like 9 parts to the video, but it is a GOOD watch.
Be cool.
