What lighting do you have Opie?
I've got a 400W MH cool tube and a 600W HPS sealed hood (basically a cool tube, without the tube shape). Been tossing around the idea of trying an all CFL veg cycle though. My plants in veg grow way faster than I need them too.

That's funny....I want mine to grow FASTER!! Bigger!! I'm really excited about my new lighting and maybe I got spoiled by starting off with a an mh (my 1 kw ballast is switchable) and have never really been happy vegging with cfls. Hope you like them better.
Hey Jack....long time no see...:). What are you growing these days?

Hi Sis .
You wern't kidding about the 2 Snl x N.H plants . They're crazy diferent . All 4 I did here looked very very much like the 1st. of your pics a cpl. posts back . The only other plant in the room at the time of the breeding was a single Church plant and we didn't see any nanas on it , you may have a Snl / N.H x Church ? Only god really knows . Either way they look real good .
Your Weedhounds mix / Indica Dom. plant here is going nutz btw , even after me torturing it like I did . Buds all over it on 13th day of bloom . When we do the crazy dirt grow this summer I promise I'll tryn make you a mess of femin. seeds from this strain , maybe "Daddysgirl" also .
Maybe we'll get somemore feedback on your strain in the near future . Santa sent 9 strains / 60 beans to our Big Blue furry Brother up there by the Northpole to try out , 10 of which were W/H Mix . :)
God Bless Sis .

Hey Weedhound
Yea has been a while since I posted regularly, been a lot of rumors around my area that our version of your DEA had got tech savvy. Personally I think it was just some folk fishing my friend who I helped get set up to see why they are no longer smoking the solid plastic But better safe than busted & our sadist officers do like kicking the doors in on christmas morning.
Finished my run of clones before going to the Dam. Only real plant I have just now is my attempt at a bonsai mother. Have added some pics. It is in soil now but it didn't start that way. Did the usual with the clones plonked them in the 1" rockwool cubes then the 4 " cubes and hand watered untill the roots show through. The extra 2, I put in pots with hydroton surrounding the cube & hand watered. After the first lot of LST & shaping I re potted one cutting all the hydroton & roots off untill it was back at the rockwool cube then stuck it in a pot with soil. My friend is having a go at doing me the clones for my next run & I am germing some Super Silver Haze, Crimea Blue & Violator Kush. Going to try something similar with those in the mothering cabinet I am working on. On top of that I need to get two grow tents, the cool shade etc.. so its time to spend cash again. Great hobby/addiction but it costs almost as much as another child, no wonder we call the plants babies.:)
If the clones that are being prep'd for me take ok then I was thinking of flowering this mother, then re vegging it. At the end I was thinking of finding a nice place outside for it where I could stick it & let it go wild. Would like to see a natural strain develop where I live.

That's a lot of green in a little space. Nice LST.

Cheers Opie, I wouldn't show you the original cabinet I had her in out of shame. Wasn't any bigger than she is now so I guess the build up of green was probably helped by the fact the lights weren't so much above her as in the middle & surrounding her.
It's taken me a few days to get the problem identified but it comes down to my (hanna) meter being screwed up and giving me the incorrect ph on all my plants.......despite the fact that it calibrates dead on for both 7.01 and 4.01. I love that. :wtf:
It's been reading way low....I believe because of colder temps in the w/f buckets. I was finally able to figure it out by pulling out my OLD hanna and calibrating and working with that. (the "old" hanna is actually the better one but more of a hassle to use.)
I have a new ph meter on the way that i'm excited about...supposed to be the bees knees of ph meters. It will be WONDERFUL to be able to trust what the damn meter is telling me.
WH, I'm interested in this since I believe we are using the same gear: so what PH pen are you using now? And the bad Hanna -- I want to know what model it is that has been giving false readings. Also what is the new meter you are getting?
Thanks

SO......I've learned a few painful lessons about the ph and tds meters in the past week or so. First my hanna model # 98130 starting flaking out with ph measurements. I changed the battery and probe recently so no excuses there....simply erratic readings that cause me to adjust the ph too high (reading way low) even though I checked it frequently and it read calibration solutions dead on. Sometimes the reading was correct....sometimes not. Sometimes it would read the same thing two different ways within a few minutes It was reading the ppms fine though.
So second meter...a hanna 91829 WAS working fine but then crashed out yesterday leaving me with no way to measure ppms and although the ph function worked....it had to be recalibrated every few hours (and checked constantly to make sure it was still calibrated.) So here is what I have learned so far:
1. I hate my hannas and will never buy a hanna again.
2. You need to have a back up ph tester for your f*cking back up ph tester Buy some drops to have on hand......at least those are consistent.
3. I hate my hannas and will never buy a hanna again.
I have a truncheon ph tester on the way....somewhat pricey but I have heard NOTHING but great things about them and am sick to death of wondering if the ph tester is working TODAY and these came highly recommended. Between calibrating the stupid SECOND hanna every few minutes and the drops I'll make it until it arrives......:D
I picked up an oakton tds tester today also. Very basic....only reads tds....not e.c but super easy to calibrate and very easy to use. If I find I miss having an e.c. reading I'll buy another meter since I have discovered it doesn't matter HOW MANY you have on hand....you never have enough. I don't usually go by e.c. though so not sure if I will miss it or not.

Sounds like your having a bad week for gadgets WH. Are these testing solutions widely available my PH meter came second hand read the bottled water as the 7.0 printed, but I never thought it could be off.
Weedhound
12-04-2007, 11:09 PM
Hi Jack....you know you turned into a growing monster when my back was turned....what's up with that? :D
Yes....they are standard solutions that you buy and include some with a ph of 7.01 and 4.01 (some ph meters require a 2 point calibration.....which I don't understand what that means but you have to use both solutions with 2 point calibration) and also tds and ec solutions set at a standard strength (i use tds 1500) to keep your meters calibrated and working correctly. ;)
Opie Yutts
12-04-2007, 11:17 PM
JackHerer, the calibration solutions are available on line or at hydro shops. You should calibrate at least every 6 months, 3 is more safe. Also do not use old solutions as they can be wrong (found out the hard way). Grab the farthest one back on the shelves, not the older ones in the front that they want you to buy.
Everyone, I've had pretty good luck with my Control Wizard brand stuff. Inexpensive, durable, and accurate (I think). I want to buy a real nice expensive one some day soon, but my separate PPM and PH meters have done me real good so far. Also low batteries give false readings. I found that out the hard way as well. The batteries that came in my PPM pen were almost dead. I took it back and they gladly replaced them. And those batteries can cost almost as much as a new pen.

some ph meters require a 2 point calibration.....which I don't understand what that means but you have to use both solutions with 2 point calibration
In case you lost your directions, I'll save you some trouble: You calibrate the 7 first and the 4 second.

12-05-2007, 12:29 AM
Cheers Opie & WH will get some of those solutions over the next couple of weeks, then I'll be back with the how, when & you really mean questions.:D
Thanks I consider your comments a sincere compliment WH all I have learned is that as was explained during my grow log along with the extra tips on how to use the search function here. I am just happy the time I am spending learning is proving worthwhile & glad you like me midget mommie.
I dismantled my cupboard & put the clothes back into it to much a security issue with the gas engineers doing an annual service on the boiler next door to it. Hence the two tents I just bought on ebay today, skint again but no worries there just getting my share of the cash before the children have it all for christmas.:rasta:
I'll of course get some pics going of my new strains when they start popping up, but I'll probably do a current growings on type thread ala Xcrispi as I can't garauntee posting regularly enough to make a grow log worthwhile to the community.

Have had several things happen in the last week. Guess c-dot isn't the only one going through changes. :wtf:
First is Kushette. I'm afraid she is no more. :( I had been noticing that she was starting to take longer and longer to drain water and I was starting to get VERY concerned about flooding since that seems to be a favorite trick of my plants in the w/fs. I drilled several extra holes in the sides of her bucket but I noticed that it really was NOT seeming to make much difference. If you look at the pics below I'm sure you will see why.
While I knew she was living on borrowed time I DID have an VERY unexpected thing happen which made my mind up for me. I found SEEDS in my most recent grow....KUSHETTE SEEDS!!! :yippee: So far I have found SIX beautiful big looking seeds with a sem-thorough look through my stash and there may very well be a few more.
This is the first time EVER I have found seeds in my plants. I've always trusted Reverse to take care of that issue for me....and until now it always has. Why did I get seeds this time? No clue. But I DEFINITELY consider it my own little X-mas present from Kushette.:thumbsup:

So with the help of my VERY good friend X-C (*hug*) I've FINALLY managed to accomplish making my waterfarms a recirculating system and may I say it has been worth the wait. I LOVE this new sytem and so do my plants.....they have commenced to growing like giant redwood trees in a speedrace or something. This is a strain that X-Crispi got 19 oz off of one plant and while I don't think mine will be doing anything along that line they certainly are NOT wanting in the bud department. And they are only HAFLWAY towards the finish mark.
The system is pretty much jerryrigged. I was seriously too afraid to drill holes in the w/f's to accomplish a daisy chain effect so I had to work something out that would pull the water from the buckets without simply pulling the water from the original rez and putting it back (the "path of least resistance" theory) so in the end I set things up on a timer with the tubing set up in such a way that the path of least resistance was from the buckets to the pump and not from anywhere else. I FINALLY got that to happen the way I wanted. :yippee:
The ph has stabilized very well.....goes up about 0.3-0.4 a day which is a HUGE difference from before. The ph would EASILY rise a point a day during this stage on out in the grow and this appears to have held that in check. I adjust ph once a day from ONE bucket.....just like X-C says.....and no having to lift the plants out of the w/f's to check things.......how NICE for my back.
Right now I have the system set up to run once every four hours (six times a day) but with the cute little digital timer I can do it up to 12-14 times a day if needed. So far every four hours seems to be working wonderfully so it may be awhile before I change that around and see if more or less works better. ;)
Good stuff WH, I tried twice to get a recirc system to work but I have such a small space it is not worth the hassle - the tubing bends were too sharp and nothing could be moved around at all. Must have wasted $50 and a weeks worth of free time trying, but the space constraint kicked my butt.
Good news is that I have enough supplies to try it again once I reconfigure my grow space. But instead I have decided to try my hand at a SCROG, since that approach seems most well suited to my small area and 400W HPS lighting.
P.S. Love that Kushette left behind gifts for the holidy season... :) Stop by my new log sometime as I am just getting the BD's set to go into the area today or tomorrow.

Thanks MVP....you should have seen my face when I found one. I was grinding some weed in a strainer and there was one little seed sitting there. At first i didn't even recognize that it WAS a seed......it's been so LONG!!! And the sloooooow trip through my brain that:
1. It truly WAS a seed
2. The seed was a female
3. The seed was from Kushette
4. THERE MAY BE MORE OF THEM!!!!!
And it snowballed from there. :D

Looking at it now......I seriously doubt it would have worked. :wtf:

WH,
I'm not sure if you've said already, but what was that medium for kushette, and have you used it before? It looks like common aquarium gravel. I know you probably want closure and want to move on. I was just curious. I am very glad for you about the seeds. Sounds very near to what just happened to me with my BBxNL. I've never got seeds in a grow before, but this time in 6 plants I had 8 seeds, and I'm very happy about it. I was trying to revert a mom of those seeds to veg, and until a couple days ago I had serious doubts about her return. Her sister was not as lucky. http://boards.cannabis.com/basic-growing/139339-plants-won-t-stop-flowering.html
:) Happy day, both you and I. Similar stuff, from forces on high. :)

I read that thread of yours opie. Glad you got some seeds out of the one you wanted as well. That could NOT have happened better imo. :)
Higromite (http://higromite.com/overview.htm). Here is what I use as a medium. I've tried hydroton and just had WAY too many issues with it and hydrotons' light weight aside......it caused MANY more problems than it solved.
The only real issue I have with the higromite is its weight.....it weighs like a bucketful of....ROCKS; go figure. Other than that I've found it to be a great medium and the BUTTLOAD of silica in it really seems to help my plants stay healthier and not suffer as many problems with fert build-up as I seemed to deal with when using hydroton either.
While the higromite IS reusable it's just as hard to pick out from that mess of roots as hydroton would be so I end up using new each time these days.
Btw....both higromite and hydroton are my hydro store owner's top choices for mediums used for a waterfarm.
Edit: One other thing I have to say is a disadvantage to using higromite....algae LOVES it and will grow like mad ion it ANYWHERE it can. That was the only other thing I liked about hydroton..(besides how light it was) was that algae really didn't grow well on it at all.

Too late Opie I've already sold the house and built a tree house in Xcrispi's buds.
You do give a noob a target to aim for with those DWC systems. Is there one around that would fit conveniently in a 1.2m x 1.2m floorspace. Had a look on ebay but the only recirc system I saw was for six buckets & I think the cramp would outweigh any advantage of getting each plant into its own bucket.
Xcrispi that pic 3 has some excellent colour in it. What strain is that?

Thanx - Jack - Opie for kind words -n- Karma .
It's all the same stuff "Sour Northernlights x Nevilles Haze" . It came from the Female Seed Co. X-line . Funky colors happening are me trying to fight hps glare via the cameras filter options .
Weedhound - I think we let these go 10 - 11 weeks and prob. coulda gone a week or so more . Your plants are gonna love you for the .3 - .4 swing verses a full point each day .
I often thought about how close my plants were to nute lock out and the stress of being a cool ph 1 day -n- on the verg of nute lock out the next over -n- over -n- over = nasty vicious cycle w/o the system recirculating .
Jack - About systems = I'd give Image reapers log a look man . He can fit 1 dwc monster in his cab. w/ a 400 hps and it's even a tight fit . Texas Hydro has a nice cheap 5 gal. bucket like the ones I run turn key for like $40.00 .
A cpl. more pics of SNL x Nevilles Haze .
Later Sis.

They're REALLY starting to get some mass on them. They are also both starting to show a K def so I spent the morning flushing them with plain ph'd water with only fair results. I'm going to have to flush them with Florakleen to really do it thoroughly because the roots are starting to do their usual growing everwhere thing and clogging some holes here and there. :wtf: I'll probably do that on Wed......need to build up my RO water supply first. But now they're back....first one is my cotton candy. She's doing VERY well since I've gotten the ph issues under control with a new meter and have the 400w mh running. I topped her a few days ago and she is just starting to get going.
The second one is the church. This plant has struggled quite a bit....first due to the ph issues which seemed to hit it MUCH harder than the CC and then it also did not do as well under the new light for quite a while. Seemed MUCH more sensitive to the mh light than the cc but I have no idea how much of that was (or is) ph related.....if at all.
I''ve just started two new seeds......one Dutch Dragon and one Power Plant. I'm still very up in the air about whether I will take the church plant through flowering.....it's had so many problems I don't feel it's a good example of a ganja plant but I may since she's improved quite a bit lately.

I'm afraid you have a bit of a wait Zeb....it just popped its skin today. In fact both seeds did and will probably go into the setup tomorrow.
So I spent Thursday flushing the system with the SNL x NH's I emptied everything out of the res, put in some Florakleen and ran it for 24 hours. Got about 200 ppm back.....starting with about 50. I honestly thought there would be more because the taller plant ESPECIALLY is starting to get some fairly serious k def spots going on. :( The other plant has the problem to a much lesser degree and (so far....) it doesn't seem to be anything to worry about in that plant. And while it may be my imagination but these fert buildup problems seems MUCH more prevelant in the sativa mixes I've grown vs the indica dominant ones and these days I AM being seduced  more and more by the sativa varieties so I would love to solve the issue once and for all. What I need is the perfect medium and I just can't find it.
I'm figuring there is at least three more weeks to go so I'm hoping this flush will hold them until the last week or so.
I also turned the cotton candy and church to 12/12 as well/first Reverse dose. The church has bounced back VERY nicely which I'm attributing to a more stable ph these days and is looking much better. :)

WH- I've been reading both of these logs for about two hours (smoking on some MK that a friend harvested a few weeks ago ironicly) and I have got to say those are some nice plants there brotha Did you get the clone thing worked out? Or am I just that out of the loop and I missed it somewhere?
We all want to see some pics of the new plants too, that Power Plant sounds prettttty tantalizing. Will they be getting their own log?
WH, can you snap a couple of pics of the K def and post them up? I wanna see what it looks like on your plants. I need to learn this aspect of growing much better since it kicked my butt last grow.

I'll try and grab a couple photos today MVP....if unable I'll definitely get them up by tomorrow. It's a very interesting pattern on the leaves and having seen it I'm now able to recognize it easily.....especially in it's earlier stages.
Hi Gixxer, thanks for stopping by the log. What ended up happening with my MK plant is that instead of clones she made me some seeds from the strain I wanted to save which was even BETTER for me. Stinky calls it "backing up the genetics onto seed form" and that's pretty much it......little databases of the genetics waiting to pop so I can enjoy the MK again since I REALLY like that strain. :D
What do you think of the MK Gixxer?

Ok...starting with a couple photos of a leaf up close.....front and back. I didn't shrink these MVP so you can look closely at them.
This leaf is from the largest plant which is also more sativa-ish imo. The problem seems to have halted (so far......) after the flushing the other day.
Keep in mind that I actually flushed them twice in the last week so I ended up getting out a total of about 400ppm extra ferts altogether.
Weedhound
12-25-2007, 01:36 AM
A couple close pics of the leaves still on the plant. One photo shows a fair amount of affected leaves (second photo) while the first shows a section of the plant barely having any symptoms at all. Think I introduced those backwards...:stoned: The pattern seems to follow where the oscillating fan blows but even not using the fan (due to cooler weather) doesn't actually stop the issue so I'm not quite sure what role the fan plays there although I'm positive it plays a role somewhere.
If you look at the third photo....as a whole the plant seems quite healthy and grows as if it's as happy as a clam.
Weedhound
12-25-2007, 01:43 AM
I didn't get a photo of the entire plant but it seems MUCH less affected by everything than the other one. Several sections of this plant show that pattern of leaves.....again on the leaves most often hit by the fan. However, this plant with it's much more indica characteristics generally seems extremely healthy and you have to look fairly close to even find some leaves with the def pattern on them. If you just glance at the plant you really don't notice it at all so it doesn't worry me on this girl as much as the other.

That looks exactly like the early stages of the nute def I experienced before it took over my MKs and the other girls. I know that the CalMag was necessary too (CA def), so I am learning here!
Thanks for the Photo Weedhound! Not growing for 15 years has left me a bit rusty....

Well since my flushing I can honestly say two things.....the ph has become much more stable and AGAIN the k def seems to have stopped. I assume the key here is *regular* flushing of the system in order to keep things in top shape.
We also had a "planned power outage" yesterday that lasted for several hours while PGE worked on something. Now, may I say that I had a LOT of warning that this was going to happen......and PLENTY of time to get things in order so I have NO real excuse for blowing it and AGAIN having ANOTHER light screw up. BUT I DID. :wtf: I'm just 7 weeks in today so am wondering whether or not to spray some Reverse.....this will be time number four. I'll have to think about it.

The Noid (voiced by Pons Maar) was an advertising character for Domino's Pizza in the 1980s. He was a villainous red-suited character who attempted to ruin Domino's pizzas but was constantly thwarted.
In 1989, Kenneth Lamar Noid, a mentally ill customer who thought the ads were a personal attack on him, held two employees of an Atlanta, Georgia, Domino's restaurant hostage for over five hours. After forcing them to make him a pizza and making demands for $100,000, getaway transportation and a copy of The Widow's Son, Noid surrendered to the police. Noid was charged with kidnapping, aggravated assault, extortion and possession of a firearm during a crime. He was found not guilty by reason of insanity.

What? I had no idea. I don't know about yous all, but I come here to learn how to grow marijuana, share any knowledge I may have in that area, and have some fun friendly conversations along the way. Well now I'm mulling over the fact that I just got done spending $800 for my conventional monthly medication, and thinking that perhaps I need to look more into that crazy Medical Marijuana people are speaking of. I've heard that you can make your own, and for a lot less than $800 per month. Good Lord that was crazy, trying to get my prescriptions today. They said it would be a half hour, and I'm waiting, I'm waiting, I'm waiting for just under 2 hours. Why can't my plants look like yours?
Because she knows how to grow better than you.
Why am I the crappiest weed grower ever?
Because you think you are.
Why do I always get some problem with my plants?
Because you haven't yet figured out how to remedy all your problems, but has anyone?
Why do my turtles not get along sometimes?
Because they need space, and it's hard to get that in the enclosure.
Why does my right knee hurt right now?
Usually knee pain is the result of an injury, such as a ruptured ligament or torn cartilage. But it also could be a medical condition such as arthritis, gout or infection.

At least W3 no longer has any problems in life thanks to Opie and Rock. :D
W3 let me tell you a little story about my growing.....in soil. This was 2 summers ago and was what led me to hydro growing.
Friend gave me a TON of seeds...bagseed. Build outdoor stealth setup for plants. Buy 50 3 gallon pots. Fill with potting soil and soil around the house (WRONG!!!) Plant 150 seeds....three to a pot (WRONG!!) Wait for 3 weeks. (WRONG!!) See very small plants come up but not very many. Invite friend to troubleshoot. Friend says what I am seeing there are weeds....NO mj sprouts. Dump everything out......seeds planted WAY too deep (about 2 inches down) (WRONG!!) Everything sprouted but couln't find their way to the top because they were too far down.
Repot with fresh soil and dirt from home. Plant 150 seeds in 3 pots.....wait another 3 weeks. Nothing. Turns out I let the seeds (which were old anyway) exposed too much to the air and ruined them.
REPOT 50 3 GALLON POTS WITH FRESH POTTING SOIL ETC..... This time plant 60 seeds in rapid rooters so I can MAKE SURE they sprout. (I had picked up a new oz and it had some blueberry aghani seeds in it). They DO SPROUT!! Plant them all in the (now) 60 pots. (Realize that I started this project at the beginning of May....it's now halfway through JULY!!) :wtf: Transplant them all into the pots. They ALL grow 3 inches high.....and then stop. That's it....3 inches. All of them. EVERY SINGLE ONE!. I check out my friend's grow and hers are 1 foot high....slight difference. Turns out that the SHITTY home dirt I used (WRONG!!) was like clay and didn't allow for proper drainage etc...) ..the roots could not grow through it so when they hit the edge of the rapid rooters they just stopping growing. That's why they were all the exact same size. So transplants 60 little 3 inch plants into new potting soil. (I'm now hitting August....harvest is in middle of October-ish) SO....they finally start to grow somewhat....not too well because now the days have shortened and they've begun to flower. Just when I think I'm safe we have a record two week "heat storm"....temps between 106 to 113 degrees F....without fail for two weeks straight.
That was pretty much the last of it. I had fans going, extra shade misting them during the day......ha ha ha. When all was said and done, (sexed etc...) I ended up with about six half-assed female plants and my total take from the grow was less than 2 oz.
I switched to hydro and on my very first grow I got five females from 8 plants and harvested nine ounces. AND I harvested pretty early too. I'll never go back to soil.
PS....PRETTY GOOD WHINE EH??? :S2:

Wow WH, just really... wow! That is a heck of a story and some damn precision whining. That was a huge amount of trouble and expense for not even 2 oz yield. Think about how much wage you earn per hour (or could), add up all your hours for that dirt project, and think of the weed you could have just bought for all that. And then compared to your next harvest in hydro, it's enough to drive anyone to hydro and give them a complete and utter hatred of dirt farming. I think I more completely understand your disdain for dirt. I have no doubt that you could grow in dirt with a little guidance and practice, but I'm glad you don't.

The power is out here so right now they are sucking down a good old 100w incadescent and I've found that when I use lower light later in flowering they rush to finish faster (not always a good thing so not something I'm advocating.) ;)
The first two photos are the larger plant and the third is "Shorty" who's got some pretty good little x-mas trees going on herself. I've had no more problems with defs etc so I've now gotten religion for reglular flushes of the system.

So the other day before the weather issues started I snipped off a pretty good size (8 gms wet/2gms dry) bud to study and do a subjective bio assay on. :D
It hasn't dried very well due to....again.....weather issues.....but when I went to go pick it up guess what I found there? A seed. :wtf:
At first I thought conspiracy..... the entire scene had a JFK "magic bullet" feel to it with the seed just sitting there all out in the open and pristine looking (nice RIPE seed ) but, alas, it was....indeed....a seed. ;)
This is how I discovered I have (hopefully HAD) a light leak. This plant is in the same spot in my room as the seedy MK. I had actually just added another layer of curtains in my room to make the area darker......not because I thought I had a light leak but because the original curtains are stunningly sucky and take all sorts of paper clips, velcro, doorweights etc to keep closed (and obviously even THOSE didn't work very well) so i JUST added those on about a week ago and they've made things not only darker but much easier to deal with at "closing" time. I guess it will simply remain to be seen if that has fixed the issue or not. The other thought is that there IS a dehumidifier in my space....and two teeny little lights that shine from it....a green one and an orange one. I'll put tape over those as well so to keep out any other bad voodoo and "cover" all my bases. :D
I don't know HOW many seeds are in this plant and I haven't subjectively bio-assayed it yet either but I'm seriously hoping that I love it enough to make use of the seeds that I'm very sure will soon be mine. :stoned:

I'm thinking so too Opie....these lights are super dinky....like a 1/10 of the size of a reset button on your basic surge protector (i DO think a surge protector reset button would be too large for my room but I don't have one in that area anyway....) and I know I've used this dehumid before and not gotten any seeds so I'm pretty sure the problem was in the curtains (especially around where my ducting is) as well. The new layer of curtains I added are 2 layers of black and are much larger and longer so there arent any little spots I have to go back and clip etc. Hoping that makes the difference. :)
Sounds to me like the curtains were the culprit, and you have remedied the situation

Weedhound
01-08-2008, 06:32 AM
According to the breeder of it I believe the maximum he stated was 500 gms per plant which comes out to very close to 18 oz. Could I MYSELF get a pound off of this plant? I seriously doubt it. (most I've ever gotten off a single plant is 8.5 oz)
Not only do you need the right plant.....you need an excellent setup including plenty of light and space to work with plus proper room conditions and most likely even something like C02 to boost the yield. X-Crispi grew a 19 oz plant but he had five gallon buckets and 2kw worth of lighting. It takes much more than X-weeks and a good yielder to get to the finish line with those kinds of numbers. :D

Not only do you need the right plant.....you need an excellent setup including plenty of light and space to work with plus proper room conditions and most likely even something like C02 to boost the yield. I believe an area in oklahoma city was really where the damage was the worst at...the lines and trees iced over here, but never enough to make them fall and collapse..A couple of years ago though we had a real bad one and power was out for like a week..I guess with the hurricane this year we got a break with the icestorms..so far anyhow..

Yungjay I can't tell you how glad I am asked that question so that I can post some pics of the biggest yielding plant I have grown.....Crystal Limit and I couldn't tell you the original breeder but I still have a few seeds and keep them safely for future growing.
I generally grow 6 plants at a time and have 2 of each generally about 4 weeks apart in age at any given point so I harvest something every 4-6 weeks. It also gives me more space in the bloom room which uses a 1kw HPS. As a rule I get between five and six oz a plant...so about 10-12 oz a grow. Interestingly when I grew more plants at once (sometimes five females at once...THAT was stupid) I would come out with about 2 1/2 oz per plant....pretty much the same yield at the end. My hydro guy seems to feel that it's a matter of light x space will grow X amount of oz....whether they are all on one plant or many. (with all other grow factors the same) Something to think about and it seems to have worked out that way for me. Two plants is a hell of a lot easier to care for than 5!
PS....I believe that is both crystal limit plants in the first photo....one plant yield six something oz and the other was 8.5. Close up is of the larger yielding plant.

From the limited experience I have seen WH I would tend to agree on the light & space thing.
On the global warming I have two opinions the first being yes there is global warming & it probably has happened before with a catastrophe in order to balance it out again long before we ever walked the planet. But then I'm with those that believe man has only evolved in atime space that would be a mere pollen cell on the time the planet has existed. Doesn't mean we shouldn't do something about it if we don't want to follow the dinosaurs.
The other one tends to kick in when I'm paying the equiv of $10 a gallon & I here people from very wealthy economies whineing about being expected to contribute moderately to cover there own environmental damage. Then I think well why should I pay for these people in a very wealthy system to be saved. Where I live could do with a bit of warming up & if London etc was flooded it might force the UK government to distribute the governmetn jobs more farily throughout the country. Like wise with the other areas in the world that are reported to be at risk, very wealthy & unprepared to accept their own responsibilities.
[EDIT] Soz LOL if London was floded maybe we could get rid of that bunch of corrupt old school boys once & for all.
I'l say no more on that one though.

Weather's weird man...And think about what you just said...staying in balance...once the earth was a sea...once the climate gets warmer, the polar ice caps melt, the earth becomes a sea again..then freezes, then will dry out and have something like prehistoric time again..or so I think...it's a repeating cycle, but will not happen until we're all long gone..

Well to each his own but I buy it. We humans as a crowd are amazingly destructive....easily much more so than any other creature on earth. And i know the world is huge, has been around long before us etc etc. I just think that we are completely capable of screwing up this planet and making in unlivable especially as the population grows and I think we impact the earth and atmosphere much more than some folks think. We do that by screwing up the balance of things. And I also think people as a rule tend to take on an "it can't happen to me" attitude that completely blinds them to doing things with some foresight, common sense or an eye towards prevention.
Seriously.....folks just can't be bothered.

I would agree also Opie.
But unfortunately I think some governments see green as a new word they can use to create taxes. Example the proposed road mile pricing which in the UK would mean the rich could drive where they want & the porr should stay in tere ghetto's. Its a topic I would only be willing to pay my part for if everyone else pays theirs & I just don't see why I should subsidise others polluting habits when I live in an area that would be least affected.

from what i've seen on news reports, this is some kind of 'city use' tax for ppl who drive in the larger inner cities (like london, and nyc) created to try to discourage personal use to reduce traffic. this has been proposed for implementation in NYC with london being the model.
supposedly would reduce congestion as the key goal.

Yea the london model that gets touted for Manchester & Edinburgh along with many other places. Again its two opinions for those who live there on low income because they were born there it may seem expensive, but the city of London is also full of the countries highest earners & I know quite a few folk earning upwards of £500 - $1,000 a day moaning about a £5 congestion charge.
Another one a friend recently flew to Ireland advetised cost of the flight £6.00 taxes added up to £30 total cost of ticket £36 & now the tories (Aristocriscy rip off merchants) waffle about adding new green taxes to comercial flights on a per person basis. However no real taxes for the super rich flying about in there own jets. Fair taxation or a reservation of polution causing activities for the rich & favoured?

Hey don't get me started about the rich (which I don't see as politics but maybe it is)
The biggest trick ever pulled in Western politics was convincing people that the struggle was between Right and Left- it's between Rich and Poor.
I recently got involved in an arguement with a person ( whom I respect greatly), who stated that the Magna Carta redistributed power from the Throne to the People- If you read it, it redistributes power from the Throne to the Landed class- strictly an internal matter within the elite. You, me, 99.99% of the population- we got nothing.
" Politics" is how the rich keep us from eating them.

I highly doubt an inter city tax will keep people out of the city. People are still going to do the things they gotta do. It's just another way to squeeze a few more pennies out of us poor folk. The gasoline doubled in price, yet you still see about the same amount of cars on the road.
WH, how long do you usually flush for, and I forgot if you do it at regular intervals throughout the grow? And do you know if Florakleen is about the same thing as Botanicare's Clearex, which is 3% Glucose and 1 1/2% Sucrose? And if so, why aren't we making this $25 per gallon sugar water ourselves?

I learned this exact same way to flush from my hydro guy and the few times I've skipped it I've seen a difference....not in potency but in taste (no biggie) but also the way it burns (a biggie!) If the plants have to go longer than a few days then I just keep them on ph'd water until they are done. Tomorrow will be starting day 63. :)
Opie this grow I have been flushing them pretty much once a month but all I was doing was pouring ph'd water through the buckets.....kind of like a rinse or something. (not using any florakleen) I was getting an extra 200 ppms of crud rinsed out of the medium easily by doing that and seeing several differences I appreciated whiich were lack of defs and issues caused by the fert buildup and a much more stable ph throughout flowering. I DID flush them thoroughly a few weeks ago....that time pouring water through didn't cut it so I had to go with 24 hours of Flora Kleen. Turned out to be well worth the extra work. ;)

Is it my imagination or all the photos gone? We harvested today and I was going to post a pic but won't until I'm sure the pics aren't being swallowed by the "upgrading and maintenance" that constantly seems to be occuring. :wtf:
There was so much we had to put a second row to hang things from.....a first for one plant. There are two colas that look to be about 1 oz apiece and TONS more. There are also SEEDS....so far have found ten during the trimming but I have a feeling there are MANY more hiding out in there. Lucky for us though.....two things.
1. This is easily a record harvest for me. I'm going to guess at about ten ounces but AM just guessing. And the seeds will make the harvest weigh more although I suppose it depends on how many seeds are there but either way some of that weight will be seeds.
2. I've become a huge fan of this strain so am quite happy to get more female seeds. This stuff is DEFINITELY a keeper.

I might be able to take Grandpa in a fair fight.....especially if he's desceased :D
So we harvested the second plant today.....took a look at a few spots on it and there's about 30% amber.....more than I thought so we took it down and buzzed it. My other drying stuff has shrunk alot.....A LOT.....and now looks about 1/2 the size it did.....my cotton candy plant did the same thing if I remember correctly. I had visions of pounds but it was really just fluffy buds. :wtf:
The second plant was very short and dense and left us with a good amount of trim unlike the first one and about 1/2 the size with double sized buds.. Really funny how differrently they turned out. I have not found any seeds in this one so far....but I'm betting they are there.
In keeping....I have placed two new seeds in rapid rooters and begun germinating. They are a White Widow and a White Berry.....i'm going white for winter. :D

Thanks very much ilove bongs. Here is the final tally:
258 dried grams. 9oz, 6 gms. A DEFINITE record!!!! I'm a touch surprised because of the "shrinking" factor but I've double checked weights and its for sure.
Has one large bud that weighed out at 31 gms.....over one ounce.....by itself.

Fog left I believe for security reasons following a breakup that may or may not have included a custody battle. There were indeed children involved and he's got his priorities straight. Skink left when his modship came to an end.
Nice looking plants there Hound. You thinking about what to do with the trim yet?

Well......my hubby has psoriasis and his doctor gave him a recipe to make a cannabis tincture she swears will help....you add to something to make a cream so we're going to give it a try. Have you made tinctures Stinky? The recipe talks about bacardi 151 (or something along the line) in a jar with the leaves that you shake daily and keep in a dark place for at least a month. Are you familiar with it at all?
stinkyattic
01-18-2008, 06:48 PM
I made the Green Dragon with Bacardi 151 and some actual bud, rather than leaves- sugar-leaf trim that you've allowed to dry out a bit is a perfectly acceptable substitute. Fewer fans, less chlorophyll.
I also added some garden mint to my tincture to make it more palatable. Kinda one lime short of a Mojito... then it smells minty, like commercial liniments.
For skin use though...hm.
Remember that alcohol will dry out the skin so I would consider doing another step... make it in isopropanol rather than ethanol since you can get a higher concentration, evap down to get most but not all of the alcohol off, and then make an emulsion in the blender using olive oil. I don't know the first thing about the process for making home-made moisturizers but I'm sure there's info on the internet about it; just incorporate your THC as if you are doing a cannabutter food recipe. An anti-inflammatory strain like anything descended from the 'ortega' cut should be most effective. I think I'm going to go poke around since this dry winter air is making my face break out in a dry red cracked bumpy MESS and I've got some trim of my own to use up.

Weedhound that is awesome. Good growing girl!
I've made tinctures with alcohol a few times, but did not use the best parts of the plant. Some worked OK, but nothing like if I'd had used nice bud. Just a heads up for you. I used Everclear, and another time 151 rum, and I forget what else. The higher proof the better. I filled a jar with leaves and just a little trim, crammed it full as I could get it without chopping it up in an herb grinder or something. Let it sit in alcohol in a cool dark place for anywhere from 2 days to 2 months, the longer the better is my understanding. Filter it a couple times, let it almost evaporate, and there you go. I got a little buzzed, but as with cooking, I'm waiting until I get a bunch of buds before I start experimenting with the good stuff. Please by all means let us know about your experiences with it.

Thanks Opie. :) My "testers" report a positive bio assay .....more of a up, creative type high than a body stone. The big test will be when I make some cookies for the hubby to sleep with. I haven't bio-assayed the second plant yet so can't say if it's more, less, or just different in the buzz.

So Shorty weighed out heavy....I'm very surprised as I was expecting about 4 oz from her.....came up to 180 gms.....6oz, 11gms. So far I've only found one seed from the second plant. It REALLY makes me wonder about the differences between the sativa and indica phenotypes....
I'll post a pic of the MANY jars we have them in curing later today. :)

So two of the ounces off the first plant have gone to good homes...of very good friends and testers ;) and 20gms have been donated to some cookies so this is what is left from both plants.
We came VERY close to a pound this grow. I'm thinking that's due to a very good yielding strain and an extra week of good veg time. I had been going with 4 weeks veg but with this I went through five weeks....and am planning to make that my norm.

Anyone who can steer me towards more of those gallon sized glass jars PLEASE DO. The quart jars are an extreme pain to open and close every single day during curing. :wtf:
I think the 5 weeks of veg made a big difference. While CC went up and down last week/end I scoured a few of boards - ICMag, gardenscure - and those growing monsters ended up with 5-6 weeks of veg.
BTW, I get my half gallon jars at Ace Hardware down the street (6 for 10 bucks I think), or they are on your favorite place too... Amazon.com: Ball 68100 half gallon wide mouth mason jars.: Home & Garden (http://www.amazon.com/68100-gallon-mouth-mason-jars/dp/B000SMYZ1U/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1200778269&sr=8-1) These are the biggest ones in a PRACTICAL size IMHO (meaning I think bigger are not wide mouths).

For the gallon jars go to Costco or some other place where you can only by mass quantities. Get a gallon of mayo, a gallon of pickles, etc.

yungjay there were actually 2 plants....one yielded the 9+ oz and the other 6+ so I'm very pleased with that. I agree with MVP that the extra veg time (and upgrading to 400w) was the key there. ;)

What is a good light cycle? :pimp:
I have a femenized Skunk growing. She's 2 feet tall, healthy. I've been running a 250W Metal Halide lamp for 12/12 hours (or as close as I can get), and during the off hours, I run 2 24W HPS.
I just started the HPS florescents. I'm not sure when I should go to, or stick with a 12/12.
Lastly, when should I see flowering?
......Last night I was using my stud finder.. It kept pointing to me, go figure.

01-29-2008, 02:59 AM
So there is 24 hours of light? Or is there 12? If there was 12, and now 24, your plants are being stressted right now and that's not a good thing as far as I know. 18/6 is good for veg and 12/12 is mandatory for flowering. Well, at least 12 hours of darkness.
WH,
I have been sitting in front of my girls imagining how many ziplock bags would it take to hold all of them
I am excited to start seeing more amber and cloudy this upcoming week :D

01-29-2008, 06:57 PM
Well I've only recently become smart enough to start writing things down on a calendar (the only thing I used to write down was the first day of bloom) so then best I can tell you with those is that from seed I vegged them five weeks, then nine to nine and 1/2 weeks flowering time.

Yes Hi All,
Yes Mr Hound has sampled the Mrs fine grow.
I would describe this as very close to the couch lock phenomina!
Very tasty and puts everything into an even mood.
Was very good for my insomnia. First a few tokes through supper to move in the right direction. Then loading up with a cookie for a more nutricious (Har) time release effect. Then a few more tokes.
All this followed by some good relaxation some laughs and then off to sleep. Yup worked great here.
Yours Always - The Pup
