"hallucinating" smells/tastes

A lot of time I'll be sitting somewhere and then all of the sudden I will notice the smell of some dank. And it will be somewhere like my brothers room, which should have no weed in it(he's 7), and my door is always shut so no way for the smell of weed from my room to get into his (I also haven't had any weed for a while). Sometimes I can taste weed too. Like the taste just appears in my mouth. It happens with other things too. And the smell thing happens mostly in places where you wouldn't expect there to be weed (elementary school,grocery store, parents room). I don't know, it just seems weird. Is there anything that can scientifically explain why this happens? Sometimes the tastes and smells are random things like, bacon.

Yeah, actually..that happens to me.

But usually I smell it and it's there...

one time, I was on a cruise and I was on literally the opposite end of the boat, sniffed a little and followed my nose (*WOOHOO*) and found a guy smoking a joint on the other end.

That happens to me, too. I forgot the reasons it happens, but somebody posted a thread like this a few months ago, I think. It's explained there. But yeah, you're not the only one it happens to.

I get those very potently with smells sometimes, it only lasts like 2 seconds but it feels completely like its right under my nose, its like im remembering a smell in perfect detail

I am schizo :p But I always thought this happened to other people to since I heard about it. Happens to me frequently though so idk...

happens to my too and i think i only noticed it after i started smoking weed too

Sometimes I smell dinner... I'll be like what's that smell and it smells like Macaroni and cheese,,,so I make macaroni and cheese for diner... it's like a subconscious power of suggestion... I am always in the mood to eat what I smell to...

damn i must have full blown schizophrenia because i smell stuff all the time that isn't there and from time to time my taste and smell will change, like the taste of something that i know and love will all of a sudden taste different and from then onward it will always taste like that. same with smells. sometimes this happens after i get really sick too, doctors have said to watch out for that but idk what it means; anyone know?

i believe that i am either a high functioning(hah i spelled that as fuctioning hehe) psycho or maybe just have some symptoms but it isn't full blown yet. but im steadfast in me belief that its all in the mind and anything external can be changed simply by interpretation and observation.

i didnt even have to read the post to say that this shit happens to me ALL the time its insane. i get these nostalgic childhood scents alot like the smell of a kindergarden classroom or of arts and crafts, and other things that i couldnt even tell you what they are.

iv had this happen too. the weirdest time was when i was waiting for a package from a member of this site and before it came in the mail, literaly before the mailman turned the corner i smelled the lovely stinky smell of MJ. so i walked outside and wahbam the mail man was almost waiting for me (me and the mailman are tight). and when he gave me the package it had no smell bc it had been triple vaccum sealed. and when i opened it up it smelled exactly like the smell i smelled b4 it came. i also hear the beeping noise from those nextel phones and no one will be around.

i have heard that too if u smile fire it could be a tumor weird or what

i think smells are a memory like i remember the smell of my school dinner, and sometimes maybe ur nose just runs away with u!

I've never experienced either!

I don't think what the OP experienced is a hallucination. It could just be memory recall....your nose has a memory as well. Something in the environment can subconsciously trigger the memory and you could feel like your smelling something. As long as you're aware that what you're smelling isn't really there, than your fine. When you start searching around the room for the spaghetti you think you're smelling then it's time to go get some help :p

I think you make a good point... I lost most of my sense of taste and smell in a car accident a while back... The smells i refer to in this thread are most likely recall...

every once in a while, i'll get a random whiff of my ex-boyfriend.

I read somewhere once that this is a common symptom experienced by schitzophrenics. I think everyone is prone to this from time to time, no mind is immune to to its own deception I think.
