My Growroom pics. and questions for my grow
Hey guys, im almost done getting all of my supplies to start my first indoor grow. I have a few worries thought and wanted to show you the space I have to work with and get your thoughts. Itâ??s a cedar walk-in closet. Im only growing in an area of 3ft x 3ft inside so I have plenty of room. There was a mold problem in here but its dried up since. Thats my worry though....will mold be a problem? If u look at my pictures, theres a photo of the wall with little holes in it. Thats the spot that im putting a 4inch hole in to do my ventilation...so there will be free flowing fresh air inside....will that be enough to keep mold away? Anyway my light is a 250watt hps and donâ??t worry, the way its hung in the picture isnt the way it will stay lol. So please give me all the input and tips you can.
Ps...any1 use â??ductstatâ? with their venting system to control general temperature? It work well?

Well, you might be gaining a bit of fresh cold air by not having a glass under your hood, but you are sending 'dirty' air out without being filtered. The glass is there to keep the heat inside the shade and the tubing is there to replace that air and remove the hot air generated by your bulb(s). The air going thru, is clean air and is never in touch with any that smells like bud. That glass pane is imperative if you don't want to smell up the neighborhood.

You will need more ventilation in your space, in fact I'd forget about the vented hood, seeing you're only using 250W, and concentrate more on ventilation and odor control. I would suggest a 6" inline fan for exhaust, which should be placed as high near the ceiling as possible. It should be FILTERED hot air leaving your grow area. Then you should have a passive intake about twice as large, say 12". This fresh air inlet should be near the ground. So now you have cool air coming into your room, gets 'smelled' up by your plants, and gets heated up by your lamp. So then the smelly hot air gets filtered, and only the clean hot/warm exits.

i know. dam. that hole is all i can work with though. but im in a basement so that hole thats by the ceiling is actually from the ground outside so it will be cool air. also whats bad about filtering the air out to my basement? what would you do in my situation if you only had one 4" hole coming into the growroom? can i do any better than i allready am? thnx for the help btw

In that case I think your best bet is to use the hole to the outside as your exhaust, and draw the fresh air out of the basement, maybe a grill in the door? In any case, the air leaving your grow room should be 'sanitized' or filtered before sending it outside to your neighbors. Do a search under Charcoal Filters right here on this forum.

First part of your worries should be the mold me I would cut out the infected area and replace with a new board. If you can not do that then I would try to kill it with bleach mix with hot water or a find something that kills mold. Next is ventilation you already have a 4 inch hole planed out now you need to find some intake holes they only need to be 2inchs only and a small fan oscilating fan to move the air around. With the 250hps that i see you have with the aluminum reflector you have I have the same reflector but I use a 400w hps with it and its in a hydro hut with the same 3'x3' space. I use a 180 cfm eco plus blower with 200 cfm carbon scrubber and my temps stay around 76 - 78 degrees with lights on with a 5 degree drop with lights off. And I can keep my 400watter 12 inchs from the tops of my plants without burning them the key is to place your oscillating fans blowing between the lamp and the tops of the plants. To check to see if they are alright just place your hand over the tops of the plants for a minute if you can stand it they can stand it if not just adjust the height of the light. I would use the 4 inch hole for my exaut and then I would drill 2icnh holes in the floor for intake then I would place my oscillating fan on the wall. Dont forget to paint the walls flat white. then hang my light and find a stop outside the grow space so you wont have any excess heat from it. that all I can come up with right this blunt got me when I come down from my high Ill check back for any more qeustion.:rastasmoke: :rasta:

bigweed-yea i plan to put some bleach in a spray bottle and drench the walls the day before i set up the room. then i was going to line the walls with mylar. good idea? also, if i have my intake coming from outside, which i plan to do, how will i be able to keep temps up when the lights are off during the winter. my closets going to freeze lol. would i hinder the growth of my ganj if i used my basement room temp air as an intake and had the exhaust go outside? i just thought getting fresh air to my plants would be better than the air in my basement. also can my hps system house a 400w bulb or do i have to get a whole new system? cause i would love to buy a 400w bulb and upgrade to that. also what do you mean about drilling holes in my floor for ventilation?
rustafa-its a little noisy in the growroom but once i leave and shut the door u cant hear a thing.

You will be better off having your fresh air coming from your basement. There's nothing wrong with that air, and its temperature is generally much more stable that the air outside. Your girls won't get frostbite in the winter when the light is off, and you won't be bringing in 100F degree hot air in July or August. My suggestion was to put a grill in the door that is the entrance to your closet as an air intake. Ideally that grill should be as low as possible (cold air sinks, hot air rises). Then have a fan pump air thru the filter and outside. This should be placed up as high as possible so that you catch the hot air.

If you can get fresh air to come in from your basement then thats fine since your exsauting outside. That way if you can keep your basement warm in the winter then youll have warm fresh air coming in. Just try keep temps at around 70 at night and around 75-78 with lights on those are the temps I shoot for. No you have to buy a 400 watt ballats. The way your closet looks you might have 4 inchs of space under your floor. And in front at bottom outside you could drill holes and place a grill in front of the holes to make it look like theres a vent there. through the holes in the front comes the air from the basement and up through the holes in the floor giving your space fresh air. Thats if I was doing it. You may find it your way is better for you. If you need anything else Ill be here.:rastasmoke: :rasta:

hey big weed one more question...i just bought a 180 active air blower. im following your exhaust setup...i actually found some pics of ur setup wen u were growin WW on here...printed a pic of ur blower and scrubber and told him i want exactly that. they had the blower but he was telling me that the blower you and i have isnt strong enough to get air through the carbon filter so i needed to buy a different blower. the one he showed me like a big bowl that attaches right to ur ducting. that cant be true though right? because arent you using a scrubber with that blower? why was he tellin me it wasnt strong enough. anyway i told him id be back 2marrrow after i spoke to u or whoever else on here that could help me. should i buy the scrubber?

sorry junkboxer the fan and scubber is good for my space I dont need a lot for 3x3x6 hydro hut. The reason you dont want a lot of air going through the scubber is so you can clean the air of smells good I learned this from a good friend thats been growing for over 20 years. He always says get a fan thats a few cfms lower than your scubber I havent had any problems with mine. If you want you can get a fan and scubber the same cfms or you can go for more. Thats the reason Iwhy I use that set up.:rastasmoke: :rasta:

Im re doing the hut pretty soon Ill have pics for in couple days. I be hanging the fan & scubber up high. For your space you really dont need alot. If you wanted more air flow I would go no more than a 265 cfm blower and the scubber im using and its 200 cfm.
