What "they" don't want you to know....
Now despite how conspiratorial this might sound its not a conspiracy its the damn truth.
We all know that gasoline will eventually be phased out and they already have cars for sale that can run on the alternate fuel of choice right now which is ethanol. But here's some things that should outrage you:
1. Ethanol gets a much lower MPG because of lower energy content (70kBTU/Gallon vs Gasoline which is 115kBTU/Gallon) yet right now ethanol costs just as much or more than gas.
2. You are already using ethanol whether you believe me or not. About 99% of gas in the USA is E10 right now meaning it contains UP TO 10% ethanol usually right around 6% tho. Idk if this is required by law right now but trust me even if they don't advertise it at the gas station, its in there.
3. Ethanol is cleaner burning right? WAY FUCKIN WRONG!
A lot of people use this as the main argument for switching to ethanol, and there is a tiny grain of truth but just like life, truth is relative. Ethanol may emit about 25% less CO2 and CO when burned which is great for cutting down on greenhouse gas emissions. But guess what?! The main byproduct of ethanol combustion is (CH3CHO) acetaldehyde which is ranked in the 10 most deadly compounds. It produces TONS of this stuff which causes all kinds of problems. here is a passage lifted from the link below:

here is a useful link Car Bibles : The Fuel and Engine Bible , you have to go all the way down the page until you see the big E85 logo on the left and this is where most of this info comes from. This guys page is simply amazing, i don't think ive ever learned so much about engines, INCLUDING from the automotive engine repair class i took in college lol.
HYDROGEN FUEL ALL THE WAY MY NI**AS!!! (*=n and j respectively so as not to be offensive)
Hydrogen fuel is the future, the only thing is that it takes more energy to split the water molecule than you can get back out of the products (oxygen and hydrogen) but thats what we have solar power for. Our entire planet (to put this in perspective, our planet contains everything you have ever seen, heard, touched, learned, experienced. and most people die without ever leaving it) but i digress; where was i? oh yes! We are orbiting a giant nuclear power plant that is 100 times bigger than every single atom that makes up our planet, and the moon...i don't understand why solar power isnt more popular. it has a one time cost of equipment and very low maintainence and would constantly provide power just about every day. and on places like the moon where there are no clouds and one half of the moon is ALWAYS facing the sun, it would be the perfect power plant for a moon base.
anyways. ethanol is not the savior it claims to be, what if everyone used it? we would all be retards because our atmosphere would be polluted with a horrible neurotoxin. think about the worst headache you've ever had. now picture getting punched in the face while having this headache, now imagine feeling like that 24/7.
I hope i didn't spoil anyones day...:hippy: :hippy:

Hi Swirly,
You seem like an angry person. I think you should consider some medicine of somesort. I don't want to offend you, but your threads bring the worst out in people. If you want some changes in government, then do so your way, but not everyone feels the same as you. Some of us are happy, and maybe you should to see why you're not. :)
Again, no offense, but life is too short to be pissed off. :)

The reason I'm not content with life is because if you are constantly accepting what is then nothing will ever change. Adversity creates change, period.
I'm actually quite easy going. I'm sorry if it sounds like I'm talking down to people, or bringing up issues that people don't like to deal with but ignoring it will not make it go away.
And to be honest some of the stuff other people say makes me really mad and want to flame them and stuff but thats the great part about forums, you can hear someones opinion and then choose to ignore it, and its easier when its the internet and you don't even have to see them in person, so just like everyone else says, if you don't like my post, you don't have to respond.
I even put an apology at the bottom of the first post hehe.
I guess im just an opinionated person who thinks issues that affect most people should be brought to light. So much stuff happens in the world, and it affects everyone so just because some people don't know or aren't included doesn't mean it wont affect them.
so i guess what im trying to say is "KNOWLEDGE IS POWER!"
EDIT: oh and i was totally pro ethanol before i found most of this stuff out. u can make it at home fairly easy (easier than refining gasoline anyway) in a still. and you can drink it if you make it yourself (they poison it so you can't consume it if you buy it). the Model T was even designed to run on alcohol because henry ford knew that people would be able to make their own fuel because alot of people had stills, some speculate that this is why prohibition was enacted and failed at the same time. they enacted it to prevent people getting a hold of it, and when people started making it themselves they couldn't control it either, in fact they had much much less control over it. it's interesting to ponder at least..

Nothing wrong with being opinionated, but instead of disagreeing with it all, why don't you try and do something about it? If there are certain things you are against, then create a protest team or campaign of some kind. Disgreeing with it won't change anything. Without action, nothing changes, so if you want some change, then do something about it. :)
I'm opinionated about certain things like religion, and alcohol and tobacco being accepted, so when a cannabis petition or what have you, or a vote to move forward, then I take the time to vote or give my say on the whole thing. I am part of making the change, not just talking or getting angry about it. When the issue comes up about tobacco being legal and cannabis not, I take the time to give in my say and opinion about it that the people actually hear.
Coming on here will not make change friend. Change is what we need, I agree.
I read a story in National Geographic this morning about oil refineries in Nigeria. These people were poor to begin with, and now they're even more poor. Oil leaking into their only fishing waters have killed and pushed the fish away. The have outdoor slaughterhouses that are engulfed with tire smoke, as they say to loosen the skin, all around these oil plants. They live in wooden boards shacked together, with one of the worlds biggest oil plants in the middle. They're water is black from oil, and now they're main water source for drinking is in danger.
I am disgusted by this. They didn't even consult the villagers about putting in oil plants. You should see how the "president" or whatever lives. Leather furniture, nice carpeteting, nice clothing, heeat and lighting, and the people in the shacks, no heat and not even a proper door. They have insurgents now running around blasting off guns because black gold is now 90% of their exports.
There are issues in this world, and when the opportunity comes up to have my say about this BS oil, they will hear it.
Take care and don't give up the fight, but fight where the fighting is. :)

Yo, he should be pissed off. He knows the truth. Maybe your the one with the problem, man. Why are you so content? Your positive outlook is bringing me down. (A comedian said something like this, not to take credit but I agree.)
Yeah, it really pisses me off that we aren't trying to replace our fuel as fast as we can. Why wait till it almost, or does run out? I think it'd be in our best interest to find a better, unlimited fuel source as fast as we can.

I'm sorry you're bitter, but you decide how to make your life happy. There are already too many angry folks in this world who complain and do nothing about it, so no, I won't sink to that level.
I already do my part in not driving a car, not consuming alcohol or tobacco, and not littering. I care for this world, but bitching about it won't do anything.

We aren't running out of fuel it's just harder to get out. We only pull out about 25% of a wells oil on average. Its just not cost efficient to pull out the rest.
-
What "they" don't want you to know....
Isn't the main oil source naturally created from the earth? If so, we will never run out, but we will destroy this word with pollution in no time.
What is it we can do about this? How do we as the public people speak to those in charge? Answer me that, and I'll be glad to help. :) When it comes to world problems, I seriously don't know what to do, but I know ranting and raving about it only gets people angry, so we need to find a way to get our voices heard.
Writing letters, sending e-mails, what?
-
What "they" don't want you to know....
I don't see what the problem is, im trying to spread information that is almost impossible to find (go ahead and try to find out ALL the emissions of ethanol on google or something, its hard if not impossible).
So by making this info available to more people I AM (trying to) do(ing) something you see?
Oh well my brain is tired of typing. It's had too much exercise today. I hope this thread stays peaceful though. But i for one would be much more at ease knowing that we aren't pushing CO2 levels to what they were at around the last ice age. (Think about the movie "day after tomorrow" the thing is, you aren't gonna be able to survive by burning books, or anything, you either move to the equator or in less than a week you will have no fuel to keep you warm and will end up as a nice pop-cicle for a polar bear. assuming it happens as fast as in the movie, way unlikely but if it happens slower it could be worse because living conditions would suck, the poor would die and the rich would use all their resources to stay alive, i mean what happens to heating oil when suddenly everyone above hawaii's latitude needs it to stay alive at night)
DAMNIT I CAN'T STOP!
To me these are just the most important issues of today, which is yet another reason why im an unhappy person, because the only thing politicians are worried about is which issues to focus on to get the most votes. most recently illegal immigration.....gimme a break we're the richest nation in the world, its just an inherent problem not a damn political corner stone.

Part of "doing something about it" is the dissemination of information. If people aren't told about things like this, they lose the power to make informed decisions, and thus the power to tailor their actions to positively influence things.

You are completely right, but so is Swirly. You both are right, because you both have opinions. There is no reason to argue over this... none whatsoever. This goes out to everyone. He posted a rant about fuel, we got the point. Okay LOLOL?? And my opinion is that we should go with hydrogen fuel. Ethanol is bullshit y0 4nd w3 need to keep it gangsta fo real. And poisoning it so that people can't consume it... LOL! So if some poor ass motherfucker does actually consume it, he'll be dead. All that for the stupid alcohol industry. Some kid is going to hear about how you can drink the ethanol fuel, and is going to drink it and die! Wouldn't it be better if he got drunk? Unless of course if he was the one driving. But usually people don't need to go that far to the gas station (there's one every few blocks). LAME.
But anyways, l8r.

Well, crude oil is basically fossilized plant matter i think (im only unsure about the fossilized part, if not then its at least REALLY REALLY OLD plant matter)
so yeah earth produces plenty of oil, over a few million years.
But think about this. The invention of combustion engines only dates back to around 1875-1900. So in less than 150 years we have used or are using most of the available oil reserves on our planet, i don't think people are gonna wait another 40 million years for those reserves to fill themselves up again ;)

Wel brazil has been pushing it for a few decades and they are now totally free of oil, they control their own energy supply. I personally beleave its a killer product. It's one of the only true oil competetors, in that there is no tie-ins whatsoever to how they are made. Farmers in America deserve a new cash crop and here it is. Imagine how they would rebound if it take off and E85 is what sells and not forein oil. The day that we can drive our cars with the freedom to choose at he pump who gets our money is the day you'll see gas at 49 cents a gallon, the middle east has made their whole economys around screwing Americans with fake proped up prices and shortages. We'll see how short they are when Americans start to vote in big numbers to give the farmer of the USA their $20 at the pump. BRAZIL has proven it, simple as that, they don't IMPORT any oil they export E85 and Oil because with E85 there at the pump the oil use has droped by 80% and they have more than enough fuel to sustatain themselves. They had the BALLS and THEY Proved it out to be fact, they got it done and the sooner there are E85 pumps at every station in America the sooner the middle east can get their heads right and quit living on the american dollars. They are capitalist to the highest degree, once there is real competetion you'll see how supply and demand works as in another REAL COMPETETOR at the pump = 49 cents a gallon if not less. All you need is 2 different entities competing and they will redesign and redesign till its all rock bottom prices. How much do you think Windows Vista would cost if there was a REAL competitor that also held 50% of the desktops, I'll tell you how much $39.95 at most. I hope Google finds a way to make it all internet based.

I know hemp and wind power would be amazing alternatives, but changing over requires mass amounts of money, and lost money for the rich bastards.
This all puts my head in a spin to be honest. You sometimes feel like your hands are tied against all of it. I wish I could start growing hemp and set up windmills to power my own home, or even solar power, but we are being held back in doing so.
Like I said, it all hurts my head and I need a toke, so I hope this thread doesn't turn nasty.
I wasn't trying to offensive to anyone. If I did, I apologize, but anything I can do to help, let me know and I will give my say.

What "they" don't want you to know....
I just saw an interesting bit on Daily Planet a little while ago. There is a company in Germany i believe making electric cars, powered only by electricity and no gasoline at all. They can go up to 85km per/hr, and a total distance of 90-120km. That is just running the electricity all the time, but there are pedals, like on a bicycle, that you can use to help aid the batteries, and if you are going downhill, you can turn the power right off, use the pedals to power it. Not only will that conserve power, but by using just the pedals, you actually put more power back into the vehicle.
It is about 3/4 the size of a sprts car, and has only 3 wheels. I find it would be easy to overturn if you took a corner too fast, but it is good to see some people are taking steps in using less gasoline. It was called the Trickel, and cost about $26,000. Not a bad price I don't think. Obviously not made for long travel, but to the people who use cars for city travel, it would be perfect. It would save you money on gasoline, and you'd be helping the environment.
I think if everyone would just do their part, we may actually save this earth, but no one seems to care until the damage is done. If we all just cut back on water, traveling and all that jazz, we may have a chance. :)

If I remeber right, current photovalatiac cells are highley inefficiant ( I think some where in the 10%-20% efficiancy) and it would take too many panels to truly fesiably power a city, takes up too much surface area, but we are working on increasing efficiancy

Hey, what about Bio-desiel, the only conversion needed for a deisel engine is it needs new hoses
-
What "they" don't want you to know....
Bio-Desiel is very important too anything that is real and can challenge oil is good. But as Brazil has proven E85 can be done very well. Its real, its here and its just about got its teeth sunk in. The oil companies are trying to make move without breaking the law(Price Fixing and other illegal activities) they are buying E85 production facilities but they are being watched too. I think by ten years form now 1 E85 be be at every station just like Desiel is now and then its game over for the most part. There will never be the midlle east led price fixing, they'll have to battle and farmers will find massive scale to reduce prices to below oil and so on and so on, it'll be beautiful at this point I'm 95% sure it will happen as E85 has its foot in the doorway and in Brazil it went like clockwork and grew every single year till it was their dominant fuel.
Check here to find a station near you just as proof of how its out there.

there are two pumps with in 10 minutes of me right now and if I make an effort when I was in the area then there'd be even less impact from the location since I drive that way all the time. The next truck I get will HAVE to be FLEX FUEL( GAS + E85) or I won't buy it.
-
What "they" don't want you to know....
I've actually written a research report on this exact subject for my English 101 class...ethanol is a joke...got an A+ on the paper too...wish i still had it so i could refer back to it in this thread but yeah ethanol is soo not the savior to our oil dependency.
-
What "they" don't want you to know....
Tell that to Brazil, they are not crying to go back to 99% oil usage. Even if we can't produce it all, there are countrys all over the globe that will jump in once the moneys there. There may be some issues with E85 they are all less worriesome than are current oil situation. So we'll see but at this point its not something on the drawing board its REAL and there are Billions and Billions of dollars going into it. There will be an all out effort to stall it here in America because thats just how shit works, but I think at this point they know its on the way, some companies are buying to get in on the money, the bigger ones are buying to price fix as lightly as they can with out geting the federal goverment on them. There was a bill in congress that mandated every new car after 2007 had to have FLEXFUEL capability and it would only ad $50 to the cost of each car and by 2015 there would be so many cars on the road that the pumps would pop up everywhere to compete, but I think it was killed by some big companies because of their profits. Shockingly one of the was GM some how they want to control it. It may have passed Im not sure but In my opinon it was the perfect bill, who the hell would notice $50 on a new car bill, and then boom 2015 rolls around and there are 25-50 million cars ready to get whatever is the cheapest fuel, it was the pefect painless solution.

What "they" don't want you to know....
UM. ....ok.
not only is ethanol not the way to go, so is hydrogen.
hydrogen is ridiculous and should not be considered for 2 main reasons:
1) Even IF the cars are one day reasonably priced, im sure there will be many cheaper options
2) Gas milage cannot change or it will already make our most advanced hydrogen cars obsolete.
hydrogen is a joke to get people to shut up about electric cars.
there are already battery powered cars powerful enough to outrun any internal combustion engine. 500 miles per charge, about $5 a charge, 0 to 80 in (its been a little while since ive seen 'Who Killed The Electric Car') about 3 or 4 seconds I believe. ...and that was out of several hundred laptop batteries.
you see battery technology is already cheaper and available.
why isnt it already implemented?
because:
1) it rarely needs any parts to be replaced. replacement, etc accounts for a LOT of cashflow in the automotive business. cars are built to break. well, american ones anyway.
2) no oil, engine fluids, transmission, moving parts. (except for wheels)
3) batteries once mass produced can be quite cheap. prices were estimated to drop 50%. you know....just like computers. and every other electronic.
4) theres billions more in gasoline to be sold to willing customers that will pay damn near any price to kill themselves and their own planet.
and also, with batteries, there is already a built in network for charging the cars....no need to build more hydro stations. those are goddamn expensive anyway.
charge your electric car at:
*WORK.
*SCHOOL.
*GROCERY STORE.
*HOME.

hasnt anyone here heard of hempoline? you can power your very own cars with ....YES, youve guessed it!:
HEMP!
what cant marijuana do?
well. honestly....
damn near nothing.
Yeah the hydrogen powered cars they have now run on a hydrogen fuel cell, which is just like a battery but a suped up hydrobat (copyright pending....by me) so instead of some lithium energy storage medium, you add hydrogen and the battery has other chems inside that reconstitute the hydrogen and ambient oxygen into water and collects the electrical energy produced by this. so we would be reliant on buying hydrogen just like we do gasoline right now.
Bio-Diesel is another thing that could replace gas, but you would still need to have a supplier of it. Hell most diesel engines can run on cooking oil if you install a converter.
But you have to think about all possibilities, why trade on gas emission for another?? Thats why ethanol doesn't work. What happens when checho here becomes as abundant as CO2, it might start destroying entire eco systems.
Also a few things to point out, corn is the only thing we in the usa can grow to produce ethanol easily, in brazil they use sugarcane which is only one process to turn into ethanol (distill or ferment the sugars into alcohol) whereas corn takes 2 steps (starch to sugar to alcohol) brazil can grow sugar cane super easy and even processing it into ethanol creates about 5mW of extra power without using any. This is gonna be the exact opposite here in the USA, we'll need tons of water to grow the corn, you have to use a little energy turning the starch into sugars by heating it and then adding a bacteria or something.
Hydrogen is by far the cleanest, most renewable (burning hydrogen or even using it in a fuel cell only produce water which can be broken right back down into hydrogen again) if hydrogen ever became popular you could hook up your own generator to a solar panel on your roof and have free fuel for life.
But as you said, if they can't constantly make money off of it, then they aren't gonna sell it. Even though if the people who came out with something like that put it on the market it would make them enough money to live like a king their entire life, but most oil tycoons are even richer than this to be honest, their greed knows no bounds at all.
One day maybe we will have a paradise but while people still fall victim to greed that will never happen.
