How can Americans claim to use the term 'Football' for thier version of Rugby? The ball (hell, its not even a ball, its a 'thing') is not even kicked!!!!
Football is a round bit of leather and air that is 'kicked' (with feet).
So call it something else, ya dopey beggers!

Yet another football thread
The term has been around for a very long time, several generations. That is like americans saying the name rugby is entirly wrong because a rug is something on the floor and by is a linking verb. When you have nothing to do with the name, it too has been around for several generations.
No point.

Yet another football thread
Its not a point, cos rugby is shit anyway. the point is, americans, get ur own name for football.

American football is shit anyway, get a new name for rugby.

Maybe the Americans came up with their version of football before anyone else...?
Who knows, plus I don't really care. :p Debating over different sports and people rioting over primates kicking a ball in a net is just so...outdated. Haven't we evoloved to intelligent beings, who surely can find a form of entertainment rather than kicking or hitting an object around? :D
-

yeah but nor. rugby has no relevance to football.
So why we talkin about it? its a totally different game to american football too

All I am asking is:
Why call it FOOTball, when you dont use feet to connect with the ball. Ya's should call it Throwball. Cos thats what happens :D

Ohhhh, I see what you're saying. :o
I agree with what you're saying. Why do the US call Euro. football, soccer? What the hell does soccer mean?! :p Makes more sense to call it football.
US football, like NFL stuff, is a mix between rugby and football (soccer), so it should be called Ruccer.

In the thread that started all this, I was told American Football was called that, because the ball used was a football. Why is it called a football? :D
American football was inspired by an English public school game called Rugby. So they nicked our game as well as our language!!!

Ya, we kicked some ass in the Revolutionary war and then they had to come back for seconds in 1812.
Well, in eighteen and fourteen we took a little trip
along with Colonel Jackson down the mighty Mississip.
We took a little bacon and we took a little beans,
And we caught the bloody British near the town of New Orleans.
We fired our guns and the British kept a'comin.
There wasn't nigh as many as there was a while ago.
We fired once more and they began to runnin'
down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico.
Have a good one!

I know its called football. Rugby isn't a different name for football, its rugby.
I still think you should change the name to Throwball, as all you use your feet for is to run with.
We kick out with our feet to connect with the ball, and other players, you just push over and drag down.
Football is us, we are football.

thats nice, the name isnt getting changed. because honestly the nfl could care less what british people think of the name, and that goes for pretty much everyone else too. thanks for the opinion though, it has been noted and ignored

its pretty funny seein a bunch of stoners argueing over which names better for a certain sport.. then it brings up the subject of war... LOL, i always thought it'd be better with a stoner runnin the county but then they'd probaly be wars over what the name of a sport should be..
next they'll be wars over which cartoon is the best lol

Ofcourse i watched it ;) I thought flamini had it in the bag for us but that Essien! What a brilliant goal. Unstoppable. To be honest, even though i'm a gunners fan, chelsea deserved to win coz they hit the post like 2 times and Essien should have scored a second. Oh well, i'll take a draw from the repeating champions away from home =]

This thread is so ridiculous because the original poster has stated numerous times that the ball does not connect with the feet. Even though on every change of possesion minus a turnover you use your FOOT to deliver the ball to the opposing team. 98% of teams run the ball more than they throw it, and the kicker is usually the leading scorer on the team. All reasons why throwball is a stupid, ignorant statement. The ball is oblong so you can chuck it 60 yards downfield to a wide receiver who makes an acrobatic catch in the endzone in the last seconds of the game to seal a victory for his team. Unlike in soccer where it takes cricket-esque lengths of time to score a goal. Football is interesting because there are so many ways to score, it's just better in every way, just like America.
