I was just wondering if everybody was doing what they wanted to be doing career wise and was it easy deciding what you wanted to do?The reason I ask is because I have been travelling the south just doing factory jobs and now I have settled I want to get a proper career in something but I have no idea what or how to go about finding out what I like.I feel like someone who has just left school not a 33 year old.

I am SO there with you, Hidden... I feel like I'll never know what I want to be when I grow up. Job-wise, I'm stuck in a rut, and like you, I get bored very easily. I really want to get into the medical field, I actually just applied to the community college and am hoping to get into one of their nursing programs or something.Quote:

i didnt know what i wanted to do for a couple of years, so I worked and read books, I started reading books on psychology and I loved it...
so I went back to college and am taking a health course and a psychology course.....I finish on wed!! Last peice of work is in, then i have 2 exams on the 19th and 23 of this month....and thats me for another year...
Im going to work for a year and go to uni in 2007, I am planning on studying psychology there and then speacalising in educational psychology or child psychology.....and then I want to do a teaching degree...I may do the teaching degree first so i can work and study at the same time.

I have always walked the path less chosen, but for some reason when it came to my career the path wound through some mysterious and foggy shit to end up where I am. I like it, though I can't really talk about it to anyone who is friends with me in real life.
i always wanted to be a fireman since about 10 years old. got on the fire dept in 81 and been there ever since. i will be retiring this october after 25 years of service. and i plan to be just a pot head after that.... my wife is a school teacher, i may teach if i get bored after a few years of being just a pot head.

Very interesting and helpful responses,most of you are happy on your individual paths and that makes me feel positive about finding mine.I need to be patient and wait to see what oppourtunities are available in the area I am moving to.I was worried about my age but I am sure I am not the first mature student and I am sure I wont be the last either.

nah im joking... my ideal job would be something that involves moving, driving maybe and getting around.
or something to do with construction im not really that picky but i would HATE to end up with an office job i would rather eat shit for money lol.
Im in a bit of a dilemma. I want to work, but the thing is, theres no jobs out there that interest me. If a job doesnt interest me, I either end up skiving all the time or quitting. I dont care if it gets me money so I can train to become a _________, I just wont do it.
Anyways, I either wanna be a scuba diving instructor, a journalist, or own my own coffeeshop/headshop/smartshop, depending on the legality of several drugs. Not just so I could be stoned 24/7, its providing a service to people - a service where everyone from all races and ages can come in, order a drink and a spliff and just chill out for a few hours. No chavs would be allowed in though with their shitty soapbar.
Journalist seems the most likely out of the list, but I have to wait until September until I can sign on at Tresham again. I know about night classes, but that just takes the fun away from being at college with all the socialising and getting stoned in the afternoon. Plus theres a pub literally across the road from the college, so thats always a bonus.

yea, i get drug tested, random and if you get hurt and if you are involed in any type of accident. all this started in 91. we lost some good workers threw the years. just last week we lost a guy with 12 years on. he took a pain pill that wasnt prescribed to him, it was his wifes and he had a tooth ache....FIRED... to keep my job, i quit smoking pot(my drug of choice) i get some long vaction twice a year so i toke up the first week then dry out till i go back to work. i retire in october and plan to burn again for at least a few months before i start teaching.....school board screens too. hope this helps
I work in an office Monday-Saturday 9-5.30pm and its SO boring, just sitting on my ass all day but then again, I like being able to sit and email friends all day, chat on MSN, come on this website, generally browse the internet the whole day and I have my own little workspace which I've personalised.Quote:

If I lived in Scotland there is noway I would have an outside job,I wouldnt even have an outside job in the north east where I was born.The south is warmer but it's more expensive to live so you cant really win either way.
