They shut down the study funded by the National Institute of Health because they found this, rather than negative aspects of Marijuana.
That site was from 2001. I think.
Anyways, I was told that information in 2000 by a rehabilitative counselor who claimed he was an "expert on Pot". So, the information was out there, you can't blame the Bush Administration.

I just found out about this myself and I have to say I was horrified. Apparently they have known that pot can cure cancer since 1974 and it has been covered up. The only reasoning I have heard is that it would interfere with their prohibition. It sounds so far out that I had to research it myself before I would believe our government would murder people that way.
I have sat here all day and yesterday trying to come up with any possible justification for it and I can't.There is no negative effect from cannabis use that does more damage than cancer. This is totally inexcusable.
Is this the message we are sending our children? That it is better to follow the law and die a horrible death rather than to try to end one of the worst diseases of all time? What kind of "message" is that?
Then I sat there and watched John Walter on TV actually say with a straight face that cannabis isn't medication. I wanted to be sick.

well here's justa theory i thought of while i had laced weed and was just messed in the head for a while. well, there's always been STUPID stuff the gov. did in the whole history of the u.s. slavery, discrimination. but someone, lots of people have always stood up and SAID SOMETHING ABOUT IT. by the thousands, more. here's another example.

We have a lady at work here who is always doing charity work for the American Cancer Society. I asked her about it and she says she's known for a long time. Apparently it is old news to the cancer research crowd (straights, non-smokers) and they have just had to throw their hands up for years. I felt so stupid when actually I'm fairly well informed. The government should not be able to cover up truths that they do not like. Didn't we give the Nazi's a hard time for burning books?

Exactly, TipTip. That is why I'm pushing people so hard to send even a $10-20 donation to SAFER and NORML this year as that is exactly what they are doing. Also, since they are pushing legalization in Nevada and Colorado this year people from those states need to stand up and go vote. If even one of these two states legalizes then it will be a massive kick in the balls to the prohibition crowd.

How can you justify a ten year old child emaciated and wasting away before your eyes, crying from the pain and fear if there is even a chance of saving them? Would you like to explain the governments viewpoint to that childs family? Parents? Millions of people like our family and friends, people we love and couldn't imagine a world without them in it, dead for corporate America's greed or the perfidity of our elected officials.
You know, fuck our government if this is the way they want to treat us. Fuck our economy if the only way it can be supported is from human misery. Fuck the doctors who know this to be the truth and hide, violating their sworn oath.
God let's us know in our hearts what is right and what is wrong and I have an obligation to fight now that I know the truth. It is only the right thing to do.
While I'm certain cannabinoids are very beneficial to cancer patients, I wouldn't go spouting off "it's a cure!" quite yet. All we know is that it helps destroy cancer cells and protect healthy cells, there are many cancer drugs out there that do that too, but they're not cures.
Plus, there's still carcinogens in weed of course. and I don't know the whole story with Bob Marley, but the guy did die of lung cancer.

yeah it was a bad move on their part.. the marijuana shit started opposition in the 50s, before the 70s when the discovery was already made.. by that time marijuanna trafficking and connection to the other drugs already have already infested the nation..

How can telling the truth be wrong? How can you say that legalizing marijuana would ruin the world economy? At some point we must make a stand and do the right thing as we see it or else nothing will ever change.
I would rather live in a world with more poverty than have people suffer if it came to that but who is to say it would? Where do your get your projections of the economic devastation caused by the end of prohibition? I'm having trouble following your logic. Would it shut down Microsoft? Ford? All the air conditioning companies? I will say that it will shut down the timber companies and the oil companies would have to compete with bio-fuels but would no longer chopping down tree's for paper and particle board or using polluting fuels be a bad thing? All it would do is switch the revenue to another portion of our economy, in this case our farmers.

I always appreciate opposing viewpoints and would love to see how you got to the end of marijuana prohibition causing global anarchy. I fail to see how allowing it to compete for synthetic fuels and fibers and allowing cancer research would cause this. All it will do is switch more of our energy and timber economy to our farmers and land owners instead of oil corporations, timber barons and overseas governments. I ask you, without playing devils advocate, whether you agree with the end of prohibition or not? If so and considering all the societal damage you believe it would cause why would you want it to end?
This is exacly my point cannamail, this all ties into making sure that our elected officials are working for us and not for the money for their campaigns. As long as they go into office owing other people they will not and can not be working for us. However it has to start somewhere.
We need to take marijuana away from LEO's prohibition addiction. We need to allow research that could save the lives of the people we love.
