I've decided to quit smoking weed.

I can feel myself getting stupider, and that's just not cool. I also need to conserve my funds. It's also become a lot less fun.
I bought an ounce on Friday before I decided to do this. I'll throw it in mason jar, and then, rather than smoking as my hobby, I'll only do it to enhance already great experience. Like when I go snowboarding here pretty soon. Basically, I'll only smoke when I believe it will be amazing enough to be memorable.
None of this 'well I'll get high first, because then dinner will taste better." Done with that.
Any tips for quitting? I have "addictive personality."

don't hang out with friends that smoke all the time, and get very busy. once i started college i hardly had time to smoke anymore so i cut way back by default. get some hobbies or something you can do so you're not just bored.

When you hit a stage in your life like you have. You ask yourself a question, what am I smoking for? Alot of the times people get stumped, others just shrug it off and say to get high. I was using it as a pain killer for my bad back, and as a way to cure night terrors(nightmares), thus helping with insomnea. Now I have no trouble sleeping and I'm perfectly fine.
You either:
Have ailments in your body/mind.
Just wanna get high.
Do it for the fuck of it (at parties while drinking, and such)
To try and make something extra fun. (Much like the way you plan to use it.)
I like the idea of using it so you'll remember something as "remember that time we got so ripped and...". It also helps give your lungs a rest (if smoker). Mind a rest, as well as make it more potent. I'm an avid fan of taking a break from weed.

Man, I get the same shit when I don't smoke, I can't sleep, and get these really fucked up dreams. When I smoke I don't dream, so I usually smoke.

There isn't anything wrong with smoking to get high or for a hanging out with friends or making something out of just sitting around playing Nintendo. As long as you don't disconnect yourself from sobriety permenently... breaks are needed if you're to be smoking weeks on end. Like me, I don't smoke everyday so I've never felt the need to quit. Except recently because of school... I've made the decision that school is more importent then being stoned and I've decided that I'm going to take a break. I don't smoke at school but smoking before school (wake and bake) and smoking when you have other and more importent shit to do, is against my new... "Rules", I guess. I'm still toking just not before school, during school, after school until I get my homework done (from school and chores and errends and stuff).
So yeah, if you want to avoid burning out, I'd recommend simply setting some boundries and sticking to them.

Doesn't really work for me. I can't think nearly as clearly if I've smoked a few times in the fast few days. Maybe it isn't the same for everybody, but like I said, I can truly feel myself getting dumber when I do that.

i cant think right when i am sober.. i mess things up, i cant get shit done, have trouble sleeping... or even staying sane.. i never knew what breaks were... i never missed a day getting high in the past 4 years atleast, and I am 18. (Except once... about a year and a half ago.. I went an entire month without smoking, its some hard stuff.)
It is all about staying entertained, getting the thought out of your head, forgetting...
BTW, i smoke for the high.. it feels good, slows down life a bit so i can get ahold of shit. i am quiting due to phyisical problems, possibly a pinched nerve.. or slipped disk, wont know tell next week for sure, but now when I get high I feel alot of pain..
I wish you good luck.. although it is mostly perservesnce. for me anyhow..

I hid the ounce pretty well yesterday. I double vacuum sealed it, and rolled the bag up. I wrapped that in foil, and put it in a mason jar. The attic access is in my room, and up there just seemed like a much safer spot. My PS2 works fine, but I may as well put it in a better spot if I don't need quick access to it. I dropped the ladder to my attic to find a good spot. Where the ceiling is (by ceiling, I mean the floor of the attic and the ceiling of my room.) There is about 8 inches between each 2x4. That eight inch gap creates a little cubby hole. I place the jar in the cubby hole, and got some insulation off of the attic floor. I put the insulation in after the jar to cover up the cubby holes. I also did this with the rest of the holes so that it would not look strange.
To anybody considering quitting, I'd reccomend it. Atleast habitual use.
Along time ago I recreationally tried a drug named Dexedrine. It's a drug given to kids with ADD which calms them down and helps them focus. It's similar to more commonly use Adderall, but it's pure dextroamphetamine at a higher dose. (Adderall is dextroamphetamine mixed with something else)
I do not have ADD, so it acts as very powerful stimulant, comparable to methamphetamine and cocaine, except tons safer.
After trying it recreationally, I started using it at school because it made me a ****ing genius. It like tripled my IQ. I wanted to learn because everything seems so incredibly interesting when you take it. I also remembered every single things thing I read when I took it.
It also made me remember things I didn't know. You know how you get to a question on a test, and you're like "Damn, I know I've learned that, but I just can't quite think of what it is." Or, if you remember a professor saying it, but you weren't paying attention. All of that, I would remember. My lowest test grade while taking Dexedrine was a 78 (With 80 being the highest possible.) Anyway, I don't take it anymore.
Today was only my second day to stop smoking pot, and what I described above is how I feel sober now. I feel tons smarter. I can think so much more clearly and make much more structured thoughts.
So coming from a pothead, trust me kids. Smoking the reefer can make you stupid.

I intentionally used the undefinitive phrase "can make you stupid," because I realize it doesn't apply to everybody.
Secondly, passing your classes isn't really that much of an acheivement. I could pass my classes high. However, I do believe your academic performance would improve significantly if you were to quit smoking habitually. (I'm not telling you to quit. You're happy, and that's all that matters. I wasn't.)
Calling me "a doctor or someone against weed on a fucking power trip," is absolutely absurd and illustrates an incapability for you to rationalize concepts you don't agree with.

One last thing, man. You need to chill. "Shut the fuck up man," is not what I expect as a reply on a cannabis message board. It's irony in it's ugliest form.

I don't understand where your coming from. What concepts did I not display as rational? I full-heartedly believe most people aren't made stupid by pot. As I nearly word-for-word stated, it simply can.

my own personal policy towards quitting is very simple. don't do it, just make weed a reward. did you work hard today and finish all of your homework? smoke. smoke as much as you'd like, you're all set for tommorow. didn't do your homework yet? get working or else there will be no time to enjoy the high. also, you get a great feeling of accomplishment which always makes my highs a LOT better.
try it out, all you really need is the willpower to say "no smoking, i didn't get done what i needed to get done"

I read the first few posts and then skimmed, but there's a good rule that's pretty well known in at least my local tripping community that could apply to the sweet leaf as well: get high to live, don't live to get high. Like any other thing, weed should only be part of your life in ways that make your life overall better. Being high (or rolling, doing lines, tripping, etc.) can be great fun - so much fun that you lose interest in other activities because all you want to do is use your drug of choice. This is bad. I've had friends that have decided to quit or cut back on smoking because they felt that, while they still loved it, they were losing interest in everything else so they were still less happy overall. I've never had this problem with anything (yet) myself, so there's not much more I can say that would be of any use. Good luck.

wow, some of you guys are morons. i didn't even bother reading past the first 10 posts of this thread before i was sufficiently amazed. this whole idea that "smoking every day is bad for you" and "weed's making me stupid" is so flawed, it's absurd. maybe you guys just are idiots in the first place? i've been smoking for 3 years and doing psychadelics recreationally for 2, and never have i felt the urge to quit because i felt "stupider". in fact, drugs have often expanded my mind to new ways of thinking. i feel that the experiences i've had on drugs have only impacted me positively, as it should to all of you. getting high has become natural to me, but it still continues to impact my personality--I'm much more outgoing, open minded, and intelligent than i was before i smoked weed. if that's not how smoking ganj affects you guys, that's really sad. you shouldn't have been smoking it in the first place. it's not bud that's to blame, it's you guys. sorry.

Not everyone has brain chemistry like yours. I know people who have burnt out, quit, then got better. Wether they decide to toke again is up to them and it is THEIR fault for smoking and getting stupid. But how could you know how it's going to effect you in the long run? STFU, you twat.

I was just finishing a four-page rough draft, craving to get high, when I read this. I ended up smoking after reading it, and posting some bullshit about how George Washington discovered weed.
And then I decided not to quit. I'll use a version of your reward system that keeps me clear-headed, and requires more self-control. (Maybe it's just me, but I love setting limits for myself that are hard to meet.)
If throughout the school week I do well, with no missing or low grades, then come Friday, I get to smoke. Saturday as well, but not Sunday. This works particularly well this week since I have a very major test on Friday. As motivation to do extremely well, I won't allow myself to smoke unless I make at least a 95 on it. (I wouldn't get the graded test back by Monday, but I can simply count the number of questions I didn't know for a fact, subtract the value of those from 100, and call that my grade.)

it worked for me once when i was studying.
i think it is impossible to stop and cut everyting immediately.

Hello Fello Burners. looks like it's time to weight in on this one because it's close to my current situation. i have been weedless for 1 week now. i have been smoking since 1967. and for the past 30yrs have been smoking every day at least 5x a day. so the past week has been an horror. i dont like myself without weed. i'm too easily stressed out and nervous. i'm an alcoholic who has'nt had a drink in 25yrs and counting. i love pot for what it does for you. it gives you introspection, calmness, helps you sleep and allows you to receed from the stress of the "real world" for a while. i personally think if weed was legal this country would be a better place. if weed can mellow out a raging lunatic such as myself, think about how the country would be: i suspect a lot more vocal about what we think is right for us and the world. most pot heads i know are folks on a search for contentment in life. pot provides that. how can you OD on pot? after a marathon burn of outstanding weed maybe you will puke,.. beer?.. try 1 six pack! pot is what you need to see this world as it is. it is gods gift to us. our bodies have more cannibinoid recepters than any other kind. doesnt that say something, like maybe we have been using this stuff since wayback when, and our bodies are attuned to it. i think yes. in conclusion i'd like to say i am looking forward to sometime time soon when i can fill my lungs with some good smoke and feel that little tingle in the back of my brain start to build and build till i give a big sigh of contentment. VIBRATIONS POSITIVE !!

Now I smoke 1 or 2 times a day and feel much more balanced and happier (also saving some money kb is very expensive here). I'm kinda like you in terms of the limits. I make sure I have all my real responsibilities out of the way, then I toke up. I don't wait for the end of the week, however. I usually toke up after a long day at either work or class. Works out well this way, and is a nice way to unwind and relax.
