		http://news.independent.co.uk/uk/cri...icle336629.ece

I'm pretty amazed that I can't find any threads on this already, this is big news in the cannabis world, and a major setback! When will the Government realise that people are going to take cannabis whether it's legal or not.

At least if it were legal, there would be more control over who smokes it, where as there is currently non due to the fekless dealers. When will they realise the prohibition is counter-productive and only encourages organised crime! As well as consuming massive amounts of police resources, who if you asked them would prefer to be fighting greater crimes. Even the Ex-chief of police has said that cannabis should be legalised as a means to combatting crime!

The mis-informed and scare mongering media are winning the war against cannabis, AND WE'RE LETTING THEM!

Not only that, prices will shoot up in big cities.

It's fucked up, i completely agree. The papers write articles on 'druggies' which is seen as any illegal substance, people don't seem to realise that dope is practically harmless in the short-term.

 Fucktards.

Not the case at all to my knowledge, the Tories talk about reversing the reclassification all the time, but not since David Cameron took the reins interestingly. I'll be very interested in what he has to say in fact, it could well be the deciding factor in how I vote in 4 years time.

This is the first time Clarke has openly talked about reversing the policy, these are dark days.

That does suck and it seems like they are going after the wrong drug. I read an article that cocaine use is WAY up in the UK. Itā??s become very popular for club going people etc. I wish I could find the article I read but I guess coke use is up at is highest level in like 20 years or something. Seems like they need to worry about coke and not pot that much.

Although Iā??m sure some bureaucrat would figure out a way to say the lesser pot laws have created the surge in coke use, I donā??t know how but they would probably find a way.

Mr Clarke responded: "Yes. People do not understand the impact of the consumption of cannabis well enough and what the legal consequences of consuming cannabis are."

YES THEY DO HYPOCRITICAL U FUK, and it seems more so than you

"I am also very worried about the most recent medical evidence on mental health. This is a very serious issue."

there has never been any solid evidence that links prolonged recreational use of cannabis to cause mental health of any kind. i hate it when they use that old line!

what would be the worst that could happen if it were leaglised, most accidents and fatalities are caused by legal drugs like alcohol and tobacco, yada yada....

It also bugs me that they reclassify magic mushrooms to class A, yet other hallucinogens are prfectly legal like DXM in cough syrup which is disguised and far more dangeros (my brother when he was 4 had 2 spoonfulls of cough medicine and has horrible visions of spiders over him..this from a legal and suposedly 'safe' product)

DRUG LAWS ARE FUCKING WRONG: How can be a crime to smoke a plant that occurs naturally....

any ways...ive ranted on, but it just gets to me

What is this? The muppet show?
The people we have running our country are a joke. Who the hell do they think they are? Worrying about a plant when some guy got off with having 80 wraps on heroin in his pocket - the sooner I get out of this shithole, the better!

 Raaaaar!

Woh! Back up. While I am very much FOR the legalisation of Cannabis, we can't ignore the fact that there are increasingly strong links between cannabis and schizophrenia, in that it can bring on the illness in people PRONE to it, especially at a young age.

 http://www.newscientist.com/channel/...alcohol/dn3098

Let's stop and think for a minute. NO ONE IS EVER GOING TO TAKE US SERIOUSLY IF WE IGNORE THE POTENTIAL DANGERS OF CANNABIS! Pretending that it is a risk free drug simply makes us look like idiots, the minute we become hypocrits we don't deserve to have cannabis legalised.

It's a matter of 'are the risks greater or lesser if cannabis is legalised?', I say the evidence points to lesser.

Cannabis may soon be reclassified back to 'B' in the UK
there are dangers in cannabis use...however, when they are compared with the danagers of prolonged use of most other drugs they seem to be weak. however, it takes quite a few years smoking cannabis to develop a mental illness, especially in your teens when ur brains not develped properly, but cases of mentel disease are rare. alcohol could desroy a young persons life much much quicker

the point is people should be given the right to choose what they want to do/say/smoke. Its the governments responsability to make sure people are informed and their not doing a very good job of it. If it were legal then at least they would have more control over who was using it.

Sadly, it is no longer an old line. There have been numerous tests that have proved this - however, it can cause mental health problems in people who either suffer with mental health problems, or have had them in the past. Plus, younger people do tend to overdo it. They have it in their pocket, so it MUST be smoked right there and then, which is just fucking ridiculous. Save it for when somethings good on TV, or for when... er... I dunno, when yer parents are out for a few hours so you can get totally baked and not have to worry about getting caught.
And I believe that overdoing it leads to the problems in the first place. The best thing that could happen is that scientists do a study on how much people in different age groups can take without suffering from problems, addiction etc and then working out the average. That way, at least if someone does become schizophrenic because of it, it's their own damn fault and no-one elses because they've been advised on how much they should take.
What do you guys think of that idea?

Ecstacy is class A because it can kill people so easily through dehydration. And I don't believe that any drug that is man-made/processed should be legal, but that's just my opinion.

Until the media has the balls to expose that the War on Drugs is a world wide on-going failure these politicians don't give a fuck. To them being advocates of the prohibition gets them points with the people who think they're doing the right thing. It just goes to show people are oblivious to anything that isn't on the TV.

Hmm, wonder why alchohol isnt banned and put into class A then since it kills millions more people than E does- there are only a handful of deaths on E and only because people dont know what they are doing and drink stupid amounts of water.

Yeah even the highly acclaimed Leah Betts "ecstasy overdose" wasn't caused by the direct pharmacological effects of MDMA. After hyponatremia most other "ecstasy overdoses" are from poly drug use, mixing with alcohol, amphetamines, opiates or cocaine.

I've given this a long thought. I do believe there is a link between cannabis and mental health, but I was insane long before I smoked my first joint.

Besides, alcohol does the same thing, in fact there is a greater link there.

The only reason alcohol is legal and cannabis isn't, is because the government can't control it and put taxes on it!

Oh yeah if you think Clarke is a fat ugly cunt, you should see him in person!

ON the subject of schitzophrenia BTW. If anyone anti-cannabis user tries to take the moral high ground (assuming the anti-prohibition argument hasn't worked). You tell that that if a mother drinks achohol while pregnant, her child is 300% more likely to develop schtizophrenia. :stoned:

Why not? There are thousands of natural cures which could take the place of ALL perscription/over the counter drugs today.
