Unlike addictive drugs, marijuana causes almost no tolerance
the title of this thread is cut&pasted from the FAQ of this site.
Now having smoked dope for over 10 years this is the first time I have ever come across this. My smoking habits have changed since i started and now i only smoke dope when i have it, i smoke it every day until i run out and then usually stop for a couple of months until i want to have a smoke again.
when i've scored, my first joint always get me really stoned and and the second one I usually put less in so i don't get so wasted. by the time i roll the last joint i'm putting a lot more than the first joint.
I belive that cannabis tolerance does build up quite quickly (especially with weed) and i have to say that any conversation that i've ever had on the matter every else belives the same thing.
also the FAQ's claim that some people say that the more you smoke the less you need. now I wish that were true as it would make smoking weed much cheaper.
what does everyone else think?

the high changes the more times you smoke.....i have gone from laughing so hard i black out, to just being really relaxed but i still love it.......the good times are in the early stages of smoking though

the tolerance you have is a PSYCHOLOGICAL one, they are talking PHYSICAL. your brain is getting just as high as ever but you dont think so because it isnt new to you.

Addiction Potential
Unfortunately, fact and fancy have become irrationally mixed regarding marihuana's physiological and psychological properties. Marihuana clearly is not in the same chemical category as heroin insofar as its physiologic and psychological effects are concerned. In a word, cannabis does not lead to physical dependence. No torturous withdrawal syndrome follows the sudden cessation of chronic, heavy use of marihuana. Although evidence indicates that heavy, long-term cannabis users may develop psychological dependence, even then the level of psychological dependence is no different from the syndrome of anxiety and restlessness seen when an American stops smoking tobacco cigarettes.

When people ask if weed is addictive, I say yes, it is psychologically addictive. The same goes to tolerance; most smokers build up a psychological tolerance to it, as opposed to a physiological one. The best way to describe it is you just get used to being high.

i dont know wtf there saying on this link(http://www.ukcia.org/research/gettman.htm ) but it sounds important.

I think the more you smoke the better you manage your smoke.
So I need less now the more I smoke, I just do one hitters in my bong, and my weed lasts me forever, and I smoke every day and get high pretty much after work till I sleep.

Exactly, thats how i am, i take small breaks now and again and i only need about a half for a whole month, and i smoke about everyday and get really high.

Cool, yeah a half a month is cool, but i smoke at least 2 bowls a day and buy an 1/8th when i'm out and can be high all the time off that 1/8th for about 3 weeks:D

Might as well give up smoking man, give the weed to me, an 1/8th lasts at least 3 weeks of being high all day every day for me!

i smoke about 3 grm of my own homegrown weed a day,i try to have 2/3 different vars to smoke as i find smoking the same var all the time seems to diminish the high,at the mo i'm curing;mazar,armageddon;early/pearl;k2,and super afghani, and i shall be taking clones of mother this weekend for a few more mazar babies,i notice a few people on this site solicit and buy weed! i joined thinking it was a grow site, what a silly old stoner i am,take care you guys twinkle

3 sheets, how do you make 1/8 last so long. i envy you, and i hope by following your instructions ill be able to do the same. i dont have a problem with smoking too much, i only smoke like 1 bowl or two a day. i get plenty high off of a bowl. i read in one thread you can get like 40 bowls from 1/8? explain
-

tolerance definitly builds up fast
i never understood why they were sayin this in FAQ
maybe just to try to prove that weed isnt addictive at all. which is not the case lol

If a lab rat doesn't get addicted to THC, than that means you have less brain-cells if you say you're addicted.
Are you addicted because you like weed? Just because you like coffee (w/caffeine) doesn't mean you're addicted to Caffeine. I Love the Yankees, yet I'm not addicted to them.
It is impossible for your brain to become addicted to Pot. The Dopamine receptors are the basis for addiction. How can you say you get addicted to Pot if it has no effect on your Dopamine receptors? If a lab rat is given a choice to take as much THC as he wants, and can choose not to take it, then so can Mellow Mood. I hope.

I first started smoking stuff at 16, so I guess my herb was rather on the generic side.
Now at 30, all I need after tasting my coffee is one hit. But, you can't suppress the memory of the taste.
After all these years of smoking, I've only built up a tolerance to shit-weed.
Bob Barker wants people to help control the pet population, and get your pets spayed or neutered.
I want people to help stop the rumors and clean their bowls.

100% true
any habitual smoker will tell you that!
-

You know, I feel a lot more stoned thinking tolerance is all psychological.
-

ok i had the first smoke i've had in a couple of weeks last night and i was totally messed up. i tried explaining to my freind the theory of weed not being something you build a tolerance to and it sounded even more like bullshit.

Think about it, though. If you hadn't have breathed oxygen in the past couple weeks, your oxygen-intake would've felt like Heaven. You don't build up a tolerance to Oxygen. If it's possible.

Interesting point beachguy.
-

grow ur own weed then u dont gotta pay that wut i do.
-
Unlike addictive drugs, marijuana causes almost no tolerance
I grow my own oxygen.
I've been thinking about it...I'm not sure if I ever built up a tolerance to shit-weed, just (eventually) discovered it.

if i hadn't breathed oxygen for a couple of weeks i'd be dead. if this is your scientific approach at convincing me that cannabis has no tolerance then i'd go and re-think your approach.
the no tolerance idea is one that flies in the face of everthing i have experienced when smoke dope for extended periods of time.
ok i concede the are different types of tolerance physio/psychological, and the fact that there doesn't seem to be evidence for a lethal dose is in some way linked to it.
if what i think your saying is that my brain forgets what being stoned is like after a rest from it. then surely if i smoke for a while and it gets used to being stoned again and i therefore smoke more weed to get stoned then there is at least psychlogical response at work here. whatever it is i still end up increasing my doses to get the same effect. That = tolerance.
