Unlike addictive drugs, marijuana causes almost no tolerance

the title of this thread is cut&pasted from the FAQ of this site.

Now having smoked dope for over 10 years this is the first time I have ever come across this. My smoking habits have changed since i started and now i only smoke dope when i have it, i smoke it every day until i run out and then usually stop for a couple of months until i want to have a smoke again.

when i've scored, my first joint always get me really stoned and and the second one I usually put less in so i don't get so wasted. by the time i roll the last joint i'm putting a lot more than the first joint.

I belive that cannabis tolerance does build up quite quickly (especially with weed) and i have to say that any conversation that i've ever had on the matter every else belives the same thing.

also the FAQ's claim that some people say that the more you smoke the less you need. now I wish that were true as it would make smoking weed much cheaper.

    what does everyone else think?

the tolerance you have is a PSYCHOLOGICAL one, they are talking PHYSICAL. your brain is getting just as high as ever but you dont think so because it isnt new to you.

    Addiction Potential

Unfortunately, fact and fancy have become irrationally mixed regarding marihuana's physiological and psychological properties. Marihuana clearly is not in the same chemical category as heroin insofar as its physiologic and psychological effects are concerned. In a word, cannabis does not lead to physical dependence. No torturous withdrawal syndrome follows the sudden cessation of chronic, heavy use of marihuana. Although evidence indicates that heavy, long-term cannabis users may develop psychological dependence, even then the level of psychological dependence is no different from the syndrome of anxiety and restlessness seen when an American stops smoking tobacco cigarettes.
