Boy, 15, Dies in a Dispute Over an iPod

(July 3) - A 15-year-old Brooklyn boy was killed on Saturday night in what investigators believe was a dispute over an iPod, the police said.

Christopher Rose left his mother's home wearing a borrowed iPod to get on the subway in the Farragut neighborhood with three friends around 5:30 p.m., his family said.

He was approached by a group of teenagers at the corner of Avenue D and 40th Street, near his home, the police said. The youths demanded his iPod, which his family said he had borrowed from a friend, and when he resisted, one of the men stabbed him twice in the chest and attacked his friends. He was taken to Kings County Hospital center and declared dead at 5:50 p.m.

The group fled, taking a knapsack and the iPod, the police said.

No arrests have been made, and the iPod has not been recovered.

Last night, family members gathered at his mother's house.

"My cousin today got murdered over some stupid iPod," said Koreena Glanville, 21, crying.

Mr. Rose was the youngest of four children and the only son, family members said. His nickname was Rosie. He was described as quiet, polite, and good at math.

Since the fourth grade, Mr. Rose would spend the school year in Bushkill, Pa., with his father, Errol Rose, a construction worker who commuted to work in New York. He attended East Stroudsburg North High School.

"We sent him to school in Pennsylvania so he wouldn't get involved in this," said Mr. Rose.

Apple's pricey iPod music players have become a target for robberies around the world. In April, the New York City police reported that an increase in subway crime during the first part of the year was driven almost entirely by thefts of digital devices, especially iPods.

Last year, a young 15 year old boy was stabbed to death over $60! 60 fuckin dollars man!! You know the real sad part though? This boy who killed him, got only 8months in prison because he was a youth.

2 Are Charged With Murder in IPod Theft

i was almost mugged in Portugal 4 years ago over my sunglasses and hat. My cousin and i told the little punks, who were probably 3 years younger than us (we were 14, just out of 8th grade at the time) to fuck off we weren't giving them shit. this type of stuff just makes me sick, i'm sure some of yal probably won't understand this (i have no problem with technology, actually i encourage us to go farther with it) but here we are, having to hide and run for the most part because of our weed, yet even the police said that they had a major crime peak when these were introduced into society.....i don't see the police chasing down someone wearing these things when they even admitted the are highly contributing to crime at the moment....just dont' make any damn sense to me....and i'm glad they got arrested, but i know they won't face the justice they deserve since they weren't over 18.....way i see it you did the crime you should have to face the PROPER time regaudless of age except for extreme circumstances

i agree they should go down eventhough theyre under 18. I once was held up by 2 kids one of them had a knife mind you im like twice theyre size, Im a big dude, yet these kids try to rob me for my money with a knife i said fuck off. Ive been a kungfu teacher for a few years now and use my violence as a last resort but these kids asked for it needless to say they caught a quick beating and as soon as i had the advantage i was as far as i could be while they were still checking to see if they were missing any teeth. I wasnt gonna stick around for more.

This type of thing is nothing new. Youth are in fact getting less and less violent (despite what CNN says) statistically as generations go by. Its not what the world is coming to, its where the world is going from.

And I wouldn't kill them, that would be too good a fate. Let them become someobody's bitch, I'm sure that stupid fucking Ipod will come in handy when then.

Well, I think if the death penalty is going to exist, we might as well be creative with it. Fuck letting them die painless deaths from lethal injection or quick deaths from the electric chair. Grate their testicles with a cheese grater. Peel the skin off their forehead with a potato peeler. Shove glass shards up their ass. In fact, let the victim's family choose the method. This is supposed to be punishment!

It all depends on the circumstances none of you know what the kid who did the stabbing had gone through. Yes it was still wrong but condeming him to a life of emprisonment for one mistake isnt fair.

I don't see why not. This is murder we're talking about. I don't care how crappy your childhood was, when you intentionally kill another human being (except in self-defense of course) you should be out of the society game for good. When you plunge a knife into somebody's chest because you want an iPod, that's not just a little mistake like shoplifting or tax fraud, it's a heinous anti-social act that deserves a punishment at least as bad as what the victim and his family had to go through.

kids at my school get killed over gang shit. a couple people die every year by gun fire because people think they r differant people. shit like that happens. last year they caught a kid with a pipe bomb at my school. its all just shit u gotta live with sumtimes.

I understand what you're saying, but please do not assume that the Brooklyn neighborhood called Farragut is "poverty sticken". It's not Sutten Place (NYC), but it's not the South Bronx, either.

This was partially due to the effect of Roe vs. Wade: less unwantedness means less crime. Many people will argue against this, but there has been no better explanation for the sudden drop in crime across the nation since the early 90's, some 20 years after the legalization of abortion.

Well, I think the sociological factors that contribute to crime rate are a lot more complex than whether abortion is legal or not. Social and economic factors are known to be very significant causes; the single most reliable predictor of whether a child will commit violent crime is whether his father is unemployed or not, and child-rearing techniques seem to be a big influence too.

Yes, this is true, but you may be missing the point: If the little shit was never born in the first place there would not have been a senseless killing for an iPod.

I'm just gonna move to a small town in Oregon or someplace whree there is virtually no crime. I don't like associating with those types of fucks, and if I don't have to why do it? I think everyone should take a couple hits of acid, I think it makes you more peaceful

to the person that said it was a mistake, think about it honestly. why should this [kid] be let back out into society when he took someone else out of it? just give me one good point on why he deserves the right to continue to enjoy his life when he took that ability away from an apparently good-hearted person. this type of thing really goes to heart to me because my brother before even age 18 has been murdered for unknown reason, and it wasn't a pretty death either. apparently he lived long enough while having his guts flung all over the place for the cops to ask him what happened. after the idiots ran to go hide the gun they used to do it with (btw it was a shotgun at close range in the stomach) if i could ever get my hands on that guy i dont' know what i would do. i purposely look away everytime anyone tries to point out anyone related to him becasue i don't want to know, i don't want to know how to track him down and should i ever do it, i am fully ready to accept what comes to me life in prison or cheese grater to the nuts.

If you know who it is, why don't you go to the cops and tell them?

there is already an ongoing investigation, and i said i don't know who it is. my mom and brother both know who it is and it's taking everything to keep my brother from doing what i want to do. but the DA has already said he'll at most get about 25 years....at most 25 years for killing my brother, who i know did nothing to deserve that. anyways like i said i turn my head everytime they try to point him out.
