suggestions for hard water problem
when I started my indoor grow I was using collected rain water, no problem- Since the winter has been very cold and containors stay frozen I have had to use well water that is hard, and it has caused some problems, of course. what is the simplest and cheapest way to soften water, research I have done suggest I need a RO system, which is cheapest. I have also seen those magnetic devices that attach to ingoing supply line, start around $180 help me resolve this issue

If you REALLy believe a magnet will work then go for it .A waste of time and money.
I would haul water or have it delivered.
Hard water makes it a tough grow.:(:( Good luck !!!!

Well if it is a temporary thing, go get those 5 gal bottles of drinking water.
BUT ..... RO and I assume distilled water, have NO minerals in them and you will need to replace the micronutrients if using long term. Particularly calcium and magnesium which work together. Simple unsulphered molasses 1 tsp per gal will resolve that.

What's the problem with your wellwater? In my experience...(my wellwater comes out of the tap at 7.9 ph, from a calcium/magnesium aquafir) if it's drinkable, it's fine for cannabis if ph is adjusted to within range. I use phDown (phosphoric acid) to lower the ph, but getting overly anal about water purity get's unnecessarily expensive if in soil. (do you worry about the purity of the dirt in your potting soil...? :wtf: )
Rainwater is usually acidic, and has whatever contaminates it has picked-up as it travels twords your region including industrial wastes, heavy metals, toxins and such.
The major problems I have with R/O, is the initial cost, the yearly filters, and the need to purchase additional nutrients to replace what's been removed. One gallon of phDown lasts me about a year and a half to two years. Much cheaper to adjust ph than to sterilize the water and have to replace what you've removed.
Avoid snake-oil remedies.

Rust T, Thanks, so all I have to do is PH down and that will balance my hardness to a usable range ? Does that remove the excess mag and calcium that causes scale ? Using well water will make things easier on me for sure

adjusting pH only compensates for what is already there, has no 'removal' effect. I agree with Rusty completely, he is much more articulate than I, and I learned the hard way about acid rain.

I think that unless the water is undrinkable, it's well worth the effort to at least try to make your canna-life cheaper and easier. Some have an anal view on water parameters, but I'm not one of those prople. Especially from aquafirs used for drinking water. Only thing I'd alter is the ph.
Heck...most treated tapwater is fine as long as you can outgas the chlorine. (when from municipal water treatment plants)
Also...for those in soil who are interested, aerating the water before watering your plants (in soil)...is dopey. Mixing the nutrients in the resevoir just prior to use is a great and necessary idea, but somehow this hydro technique spread to include the necessity of aerating the water. But in a soil grow...when you water or feed...the water 'draws-down' the air as it moves through the soil. (via suction) If you listen carefully after watering, you can hear the suction.
And don't water with cold water if you can help it. Warm water is best.
I don't do political correctness at all. Doubtful I'd make a good president, but thanks for the thought...

I appreciate your insight in this matter. My well runs 7.5 to 7.7 and I adjust to 6.6 and my run off is 6.8 . So my hardness being over 300 ppm will cause no problems and I shouldn't have to do anything other then I have ?

I wouldn't hesitate to give it a try.

Why would'nt you get a heater for the res. you collect in? Just curious..

My friend, I just learned from Weezard, and have tested and agree with him, that the outgassing is not necessary and the O2 in the water outgasses also. I see no effect at all from two weeks of watering right out of the tap, only adjusting ph down with 2 ml of cal/mag per 5 gals of water. Even the babies like it, maybe even do better.
Waterdog, chill, man to some folks that is embarassing. K?

I plan on doing that soon, I have some major health issues and probably started this grow a little early, took 6 months longer then I expected to build room out. I have checked into livestock and aquarium heaters. I really need a grow buddy, someone to help. Yesterday I flushed , that was 75 gallons of water I carried to outbuilding. That was a lot of oxys to do that.I knew water would be by biggest challenge this go.Just need to get it together for next. By the way you know anything about GH Floramicro nutes, suppose to be designed for hard water users. Like your new avatar

I knew you had been havin' a few ailment's.. Wish you had other means to medicate the pain, other than them Oxy's!!!:stoned: You need runnin' water out there, huh? Would you be able to run a water hose that far,and run it through a hole in the floor or wall? Then you could have a full res.ready for ya.Add a float valve and it will keep your res a certain level.. No more tote'n water, less oxy's,too!:DHow did your appointment go?
I've never used GH products.. I've been true to Dyna-Gro ferts and Botanicare supplements.. Like Sweet, Hydroplex,Cal-mag.. Along with Superthrive..
RAINHAZE made that for me.. Too cool, huh? I like it too! Thank's!

yeh I hate these oxy's but can not move without, that is why I jumped the gun on starting this grow  I can run a perm line from my house source, just 30 yards when I can dig a ditch and resolve my hardwater issue. My appointment was so so , 14th doctor in 26 months, suggested multiple nerve blocks to eliminate most pain if more nerve damage is not done in process, don't you love those kind of solutions. I will check out your nute line.
Rainhaze did a good job, I have been meaning to ask him if he is a graphic designer .Thanks for all , and all to come

You could still run the line and put a filter or reverse osmosis system,in there..Something to think about! I got cha on my mind! It's GOOD to have GA. on your mind, too! Get it? HeHe!;)
You know you got nuttin' but love here!;) That was not what you wanted to hear, huh? You got meds other than Oxy? I mean of the herbal type.. Like Cannabis..
He's just that! Or did alot of that type, stuff. I bet he'd do 1 for ya! Ask him..

I'll figure this water thing out someday- it's Ok to show some love
kind of nice
, amazing how friends and family start to distance themselves from you after being in pain for so long. human nature I suppose- leave the sick and weak behind for the predators to feast upon- I got some meds ,not of high grade, put out my crop last year, outdoor, was not able to tend to them, heat and drought took toll-
I'll give Rain an A+ for design skills

Man il agree that friends and family tend to ignore you or your thoughts when the pain gets really bad. Its hard not to vent about it as its the only thing on your mind, i know cuz iv got it too. One hint of pain to my family and they change the subject or just say the gotta go. If you have seen a bird that has been injured, the other birds will attract it and i feel this way a lot. But your so right man, others just get sick of hearing about the pain, but you would think family would allow you and me to simply just vent. It helps!
I understand a beat up subject, but i think they just cant understand how much pain a body can take. Before getting on my meds, i could not even set up in bed or even comunicate to my PCA workers, sucks. Better now, but getting ripped last summer hurt me bad and indoor will go into some supplies to some day get ahead and have back stock of a few different strains.
I understand you for sure man. It was 15 years after i moved out of my mothers house and her answer was, i didn't need the meds when i was living there so why now? She thought i wanted the drugs:wtf:i hate being called a lier and hate the side effects of the pharmaceuticals. But just cant go without em, even when iv got smoke.
Good luck man:rasta:

I guess I kind of hung my laundry out to dry for everyone to see. Doctors hav eput me on a anti- seizure med and it does make me rather meloncoly at times- I also can not set, sleep, stand without severe pain. I hate these chemical meds, I'll sit in anguish and look at my pain meds and think damn I am tired of this stuff.sorry to hear of your rip-off , sucks someone had a fun buzz on your hopes and dreams :wtf:
