Need Help. First Grow and all stressed out!

Hi everyone,

as the title says this is my first attempt to grow my own babies and I just need some guidance as the grow progresses just to be sure everything goes well and learn as much as I can in the process. So here's a little info.

What is your experience level? first timer

Your Equipment:
.1) 400W HPS Agro

.3) Parabolic deflector
.4) Small passive intake in the door of the room plus opening for 10-30mins twice a day at least
.5) Do you have an exhaust fan and a circulation fan? Yes both
.6) What are the bulb wattages, kelvin ratings, and schedule? 430W (30W of blue spectrum light) 58k lumens running at 18/6

.9) Did you use peat pucks (or similar) to root clones or germinate seedlings? No

Your nutrients and water:
10) Source of water? (tap, bottled or filtered) What's it's ph before adjusting? Tap water left in a container for at least 24-48h before used. Occasional rain water too. No idea on the ph tbh I need to get a pen at some point soon :(
11) Method of checking water ph. (ph pen, test strips, aquarium test kit...) None atm :(
12) Method of adjusting water ph. (phosphoric acid, white vinegar, hydrated lime, PH Up...) None atm :(
13) Specific brand and N-P-K ratio for each bottle. List dosages (quantity per gallon) and current feeding schedule. Cellmax Organics not yet feeding asides some slight foliar feeding with rootbooster

18) Do you foliar feed? If so, with what, how often, and at what time do you spray? I foliar feed every 2-3 days with 3ml/l of rootbooster usually around afternoon that I get back from work. Watering is done with no nutrients atm.

19) Indoors or outdoors? Outdoors, built on a roof
20) What size of closet, room or hut? Roughly 5sqm (60sqf) but the area utilized for growing is around 2sqm (20sqf) and 3m (10ft) high
21) What are the temps and humidity levels while lights are on? ...With lights off? On 20-23C (68-73F) and 60-70% hum. Off On 17-19C (63-66F) and 60-70% hum.
22) Have you seen signs of insects in the growroom? No

Your strain:
23) What strain are you growing? Sativa (Hawaii / Laos) supposed to be Green House Hawaiian Snow but don't trust the source lol (that's another long story of noobiness but anyway :wtf:)
24) From seeds or clones? Seeds
25) Is this an autoflower strain? No


A little history:
Germinated seeds in paper towel after soaking in distilled water overnight. 9/10 seeds sunk, and those 9 where germinated and planted in rockwool cubes. They sprouted out of the cubes in less than 2 days,

kept under tube fluo with just water spray for about a week while I was finishing the growroom and planted the rockwool directly to the soil 9 days ago with roots coming out at least an inch or two from the bottom of the rockwool.


Now I don't know if all that was needed for what I want to ask but I thought I might as well do it anyway. My question atm is whether or not my plants have passed from seedling to veg stage yet so I can start feeding, if not when I will know for sure that they have (cause reading countless sources and books just left some things way confused in my head) and if you think everything looks ok with my plants.

Am I just being paranoid and overly stressed or the leaf edges are slightly tipped up? Temp at the top of the plants never exceeds 25-26C (77-79F) and is usually kept at around 24C (75F) with an oscillating fan blowing air constantly. They do grow fast though! :D What about the strain? Is it indeed a sativa or it's too soon to tell for sure? :rastasmoke: Leaves look a little wide to me but then again I'm the noob here... :D

May I ask you why do you foilar feed with root booster? Is it recommended to do that way or for some other reasons?
I'm asking because since its for the roots, making me think it should be applied to the soil. No?

Also you have light soil, so you should think of giving some grow nutrients as well. Since the plants are ok for now you may start with half dose and see how they react.
As I know, light mixes are for having control on fertilizing from the very beginning. I'm using light mix too but i didn't germinate in them, I used just before flowering and they fitted well with full dosage of feeding.

As I said this is my first grow. I've done a lot of reading and research prior to starting but I always believed that experience is what counts at the end not theory. Plus that all this bombardment of information has left some things unclear in my head. So I found this forum a while ago and I started asking things that I couldn't find in books. So basically I trust what more experienced growers than me in these boards suggest and experiment a little too. As for the root booster going into the soil I'm not sure but my logic dictates that all the processes of nutrient breakdown happens inside the plant so either way of providing those nutrients would be ok. Plus iirc foliar feeding if done correctly is preferable if possible due to the reason that you minimize alkaline concentration in the soil that could alter the pH faster? Correct me and excuse me if I'm wrong but as I said atm I just know what I've been reading around. 0 experience whatsoever but I'm working on that s we speak ;) :rastasmoke:

btw, anyone that can clear up the veg stage for me? I still don't have it clear what indicates that a seedling enters its vegetative period.

yep they look fine

as for veg stage.... soon as the seedling has rooted and enters fast growth then i would say its no longer a seedling.... how long you veg for is up to you when you think they big enough remember that they still grow a lot in flower 12/12 aleast 3-4x more if you want a reasonably quick grow veg for say 4 weeks then flower.....sweet

Thx jaydee, no I'm not in a hurry to have a quick grow. I was thinking to let em veg to at least 30-50cm tall before switching the lights to 12/12 as I have a 3m (10ft) clearance to the ceiling so height isn't a problem and this baby is supposed to be a sativa. (if indeed it is what I was told it is lol) Now the only reason I'm asking if they have entered veg growth stage is to know if I should start with the ferts schedule.

as for fertz if your soil has its own food/fertz should be like 2-3 week supply check packaging if it has leave it 3 weeks from potting then you can use fetz otherwise its a high chance of nuit burn etc.... to much fertz entering plant,... also never over do it with fertz to much is not good and will only slow you grow down

I'm not at home now so can't check the exact amounts but I'm using Biobizz lightmix soil that is supposed to be low in ferts to allow more user control over the nutrients. EC 1.2 and pH 6.1-6.3 is all I remember.

Also I'm using Cellmax Bio (still trying to find someone that has used them for MJ before to get some feedback) organic nuts and I was thinking of going with the recommended dosages but feed every other watering? Is that correct or you think I should narrow down more the feedings? Or just cut down on the dosage and feed every time I water? Is it true that it's harder to cause nutrient burns/over-fertilize on organics?

Since it's a supplement for the roots it should work for the roots more than the leaves I'm thinking. I would like to hear some specific answer from a trusted hand for that too if anyone experienced in soil, foliar feeding of root supplements.
I read the previous thread but you weren't talking about root booster there so advice you got from an experienced hand can't always point your exact situation.
I didn't foliar feed, I didn't use light mix in the beginning but my cotyledons lived for 20 days.

Just I'm trying to say is, simple details that you missed can be the main reason of your problem my friend.

I do hope some guru in here will come and shed some light into this. I don't have any problems with my plants as of now anyway and I'm starting to feed in the soil now anyway so it's all good but I still want to learn. Will be using spray just to mist the plants with plain gathered rain water from time to time in an effort to simulate mama nature as much as possible!

PS. Don't my leaves look a little bit wide for being an almost pure sativa or it's just to early to really tell? I'm asking simply cause as I said the source of the seeds was questionable and not sure if they are indeed GH Hawaiian Snow feminized ones as they are supposed to be...

Still early, but full Indica starts have much wider leaves on average.

Yours looks like it has tendencies of the Indica persuasion but it is too early to say.:D

Good move with stopping the foilar feed nonsense.
Only FF I see nature do, is splash soil onto da bottom leaves sometimes.
They promptly die!
Then turn yellow which calls the whiteflies.
Then rot and give off Ethylene, which calls fungus gnats.
Then get moldy.
Roots and leaves have very different functions so common sense tells us to let each part do what it does best, yah?

Keep readin' while you practice patience, brah
And know that I killed my first 3 grows with love and attention.
Truth be told, most good growers killed at least their first grow.
Ya gotta care, jus' not so much.:cool:

Only advice I'd offer here is to treat yourself to a decent digital camera with a macro setting, if you can.
A thousand true words in every jpeg!:cool:
Get much mo' betta diagnosis dat way.

And the video record is your best learning tool, even if you never post them.
Take a pic., apply a remedy, wait fo' a while.
Take a nudder pic.
Reviewing the pics, with your notes, can turn yer thumb green in no time.

That's what I thought too. Oh well we'll see. That stupid fuck of a brother of mine got the seeds from an overpriced seedbank in Amsterdam that many ppl say it's a scam and other's say they're fine. It's supposed to be Hawaiian Snow feminized seeds. Anyway no biggie, first grow for experimenting/learning and most probably I'll end up killing em anyway... :chainsaw:

Not doing anything else in my free time any more other than reading. As for not caring it's kinda hard, comes out naturally :hippy: The thing is that something came up work wise and I'll have to go overseas for a couple of months so my 2 bros will be looking after them with me providing instructions remotely (with the help of cannabis.com of course), so they WILL be a little neglected after all. Maybe it will turn out to be good for em or maybe they will just kill my babies faster :( I've shown them the few things I know and left em some resources to read on too. After all they will be consuming it with me, they should contribute to something :D (we had divided the cost in between 3 anyway but I'm doing all the hard work lol)

I'm a perfectionist in general when I'm doing something I really enjoy so I do keep notes and take pictures for each plant individually every day. :greenthumb: Now if my bros will continue to do so after I'm gone is another story... :( (notes they will, I doubt about the pics though)

Just gave it 250ml of water today with its first dose of nutrients. Does it seem a little over-watered or it's my idea? :wtf:

I ordered some BLUE MYSTIC seeds from Nirvana and got them in like.... 10 days... not bad from Holland to AZ. but I got them on the 31st of jan. All 10 popped!!! yea buddy! alrighty, well I wont steal your thread, I will start my own... but good luck and happy growing :)

Next time wait to transplant. That container is too big for the plant. Not a big deal if watered properly, but the tendency with pots that are too big is either underwatering and not getting water to the lower root zone...and overwatering, as the medium stay's moist too long and you risk root rot.

Find a way to ph your rainwater. But in most cases I'd say to avoid rainwater, since it's full of contaminates and can be pretty damn acidic. Plus, if you're using two different sources of water, your losing all the consistency that growing cannabis demands. Check online for your local water company's water quality report. It should tell you the average tapwater ph, what's in it and at what levels, what they treat it with...stuff like that.

ALWAYS start your girls on 1/2 doses of nutrients. This way...if they're not really ready for nutrients (not mature enough) you aren't overdosing them right out of the gate. If they're ok with a couple of weeks of half-doses, bump it up to 'normal' dosages.

Do not use your additives and nutrients except as directed. No "bright ideas' till you know what you're doing. Good idea's kill plants on occasion.

Check online for BioBizz weekly feeding instructions. It's usually better info than from the bottle itself.

I'll drop using rainwater, I just read somewhere that it's better that's why I used it in the first place. Will stick to tap water that I leave 1-2days to get rid of the chlorium and check with the water company too for more details and post em in my log once and if I get em. I already ordered a pH testing pen too. As for the nutrients I started at 1/4 of the dose and never planned on going beyond the recommended. Will just increase them gradually and alternate my feedings every other watering and see how it goes from there.

PS. It would be better if we transferred all discussion about my grow to my freshly made Grow Log. It would be easier to have everything in one thread and not spread around. My bad that I made it late I know but still... :(

ok I did some research and I came up with those values regarding tap water in my area:

• pH: 7.4
• GΗ: 8
• ΚΗ: 6
• ΝΟ3: 0
• Water Alkalinity: 150 - 200 mg/lt CaCO3
• Water Hardness: 120 - 130 mg/lt CaCO3
• Calcium: 45 - 55 mg/lt
• Magnesium: 4 - 7 mg/lt
• Nitrogen: 3 - 5 mg/lt
• Sulphates: 30 - 35 mg/lt
• Chlorates: 3 - 15 mg/lt (higher values appear less frequently)
• Free Chlorium: 0,3 - 0,5 mg/lt
• Chromium: 1.6 μgr/lt

I hope I got the chemical terms translation right, being Greek and all :p Does it call for adjustments? Lower it maybe to 6.5 or so? And if yes how? Would some lemon juice work?
