It's all a shell game anyway. Bagram is worse.
The thing that gets me are people who, when it suits our perceived needs, see no problem with semi-legal prisons, detention without trial, secret testimony, "moderate physical pressure" (actually that's an Israeli euphemism for torture but we've expropriated it as though it were just a few dunums of land...). We are taking on the trappings of so many of the regimes we detest. People would do well to watch fewer hours of 24 and instead study history.
I, like most others, have no problem with it whatsoever. Don't hang with Jihadists or their sympathizers and you should be fine.
Ya hear that kids......you should watch made up tv shows instead of reading history books......ya heard it here first from Mr. Top 5 % himself. Words to live by.
Yea......that KUSHY little beach front resort they call Gitmo made up of all muslims together must be sooooooo rough on those supposed hardened soldiers right.......where they have football pitches and cricket games.....sounds so scary. God forbid they scare them with dogs or loud yelling and music. TORTURE i tell ya.....torture. State Prison in Texas is comparable.
and as with closing Gitmo........that timeline for withdrawl from Afghanistan is also starting to crumble........small hints.
Obama cites 'obsession' on Afghanistan timeline - Yahoo! News
Once again you either failed to read what I wrote or you are again willfully distorting my words. You have proven yourself capable of both. Perhaps if you read more slowly it would help? Here is what I said (note I added emphasis to help you spot the operative words):Quote:

He renewed the Patriot act virtually unchanged despite speaking out against it during the campaign, he promised to repeal DADT which he hasn't done, he promised to close gitmo in a year which he didn't do, and the list goes on.Quote:

Further, this has to do with military strategy (politics too, obviously) so if the military needs more time then it is up to Obama to hear out the generals. And if you want to talk about time lines, he is on schedule in Iraq for which he deserves credit.
Islandboy, you don't know me so if you are going to characterize my position on anything please have the courage to back up your claims with some kind of evidence. Of course you won't because you can't.
18 months of my life were spent stuck on that rock and I can tell you from first hand experience, not some BS from the media, that Guantanamo Bay is a hellhole. Outside the Middle East, it's one of the few spots left where our military gets to wake up everyday with an active enemy pointing weapons at them. It's not a Kushy little beach front anything.Quote:

If you compromise our values to the level of the enemy they already have won, why fight against it?

uhhhhhhhh, the folks at freakin Gitmo have soccer fields and Ellyptical machines to exercise on.......Khaled Sheik actually has his OWN PERSONAL one. WOW......they got it rough....as well as REGULAR red cross attention.
Its also funny you cry about this supposed torture at gitmo and yet advocate killing people you deem "Republicans".......i know that post is still on here. Sounds like your JUST like the extremists you falsely claim to battle. Interesting.:hippy:

Sam Alioto and Dick Cheney both used the serial offender/star of 24 in real life examples of policy choices and influences of their thinking. it's as if the NEOCONS wrote the story lines to scare people into cheering on the War on Terror. In some discussion I read on huffpo or some other progressive news source, they referred to times where both these guys said something to the effect "If Jack Bauer did it, would you prosecute him"? It's not surprising that we were torturing folks in gitmo in secret at the time.Quote:

Oh you are going to enjoy this article by Robert Fisk. A bit long but well worth reading to the end: Fighting talk: The new propaganda. The man nails it every time.Quote:

Put the Top 10 at Gitmo; on the talk show circuit...ratings would go though the roof.......:stoned:
Gitmo, Extraordinary Rendition, warrantless searches, endorsing death sentences against US citizens without due process, etc., etc.
We're in quite the sticky wicket now my friends.
I want my mum.
