hey so im just starting a grow indoors in a cabinet in my house. so i have a CFL light right above 10 cups, i dont no much about indoors growing and i been looking up a little bit but still some parts are rough on me. im useing organic rich potting soil, and 10-12-10 plant food. i have a couple of plants sprouting. i just have one problem. there seems to be a LOT of tiny black bugs that fly around in there, and they almost like fruit flys. there very small and have very white wings. i was wondering what they are and how to get rid of them. any ideas or comments on my set up would be nice. here are some pics.
(the last picture is me trying to take a picture of one of the dead flys. i really need them gone so please help)

ok well i cant really help you on the bug problem but i can give you a few pointers on some things to fix
1. you should never put more than one plant in a pot, cup or anything used for planting they get rootbound and start to kill eachother
2. you will need alot more light for 10 plants than one cfl and i would turn the cfl(s) on thier side; thats where most of the light is
3. lose the tinfoil and use mylar foil causes heat spots
4. the plants are too young to need any plant food give em some time before you feed them
The best of luck to you and your grow man:thumbsup:

thanks man, i already turned the light on its side, after i posted i went looking for some info and couldent really find any. i placed a couple of seeds in each cup jsut to be sure they would sprout. there all Kind Bud seeds but were free so i dont feel the need to "conserve" them, ya no? and i dont plan on growing all 10, just wanted to make sure i had a couple of strong plants, ya no?

Dude, those are veg flies and you will pretty much either need to change out your soil completely or you will need to put some diatemacious earth on the upper layer of the soil to help kill the flies. They have a constant life cycle in the soil and will continue to lay eggs over and over again. I stronly recommend changing out the soil first before the D.E. treatment.... even a light layer of sand on the top of the soil helps. I exterminate for a living so trust me on this one.

will they kill my plants?
-
just starting set up
Um... I have never known them to kill plants but they will be a major nuissance to the rest of the house over time. They tend to feed on the organic matter found in soils, not the plant itself.

so i think i got rid of all the fungus gnats. i went looking everywher online and fount that a little bit of ground cinnimon on the top of the soil kills all the lava, and that water with a little soap in it would attract all the gnats, and they would drownd. so i did this 2 days ago and i have yet to see anymore gnats. now i have this weird fungus that seems to be forming on the tops of the soil. iv seen this before on one of my brothers grow, so i know its not from the cinnimon, but idk what it is. any help?

it looks like mold to me but im new to no more water that it dry out a lil and maybe repot some of them
-

and when u repot them berry most of the neck so they dont fall over
-

Not sure if that's necessary...

way ahead of you smoke haha i just repoted the 5 that sprouted, those 5 plants are midz seeds from a friend who had em for 2 years, and the 4 that have yet to come up i planted 3 days ago and those are outdoor kind bud seeds, i planted the necks wayyy lower cuz they look to be stretching (what can i do to prevent that?) and the roots will be stronger.
here are some pics now, also is the light to low or anything?

more light,more ventilation, less plants
-

The reason your plants are stretching so much is because of the low light levels...that generally causes plants to stretch more
Google is your friend :D

Haha i tried figueing it out and all im usually on is a sidekick phone, and all i could find was plant soultions or some shit that did something. Thanks man. Im probably going to the store in like an hour to buy a light and fan, and mylar if i see it anywhere.
-

Mylar or panda film are great
BTW, I am not a fan of the sidekick...I went online to do some research on a new celly and I was checking out the sidekick, but I can't get the T-mobile 450 select plan without this extra stupid monthly charge of 15$ or something like that. It's some stupid thing they tack onto the sidekick alone...it's stupid...I like that phone a lot, but that's a lot of money to be paying monthly...
Verizon here I come

haha yeah im paying like 120 a month for me and my brother and we get 1400 anytime, free night weekend, and my fav 5. its pretty straight.
but i went to the store today and bought a new light and a fan.
im kinda worried that theres a fire hazerd here cuz i might not be checking it for 4 days at a time.
also, theres no fresh air circulating in there because i cant have light leeking out, is that bad?
1 more thing, this light is 26w and it dosent say anywhere its a CFL but im pretty sure it is, its a blueish light, the like 4 inch long ones. this right light?
[attachment=o196912]
-
just starting set up
You could get fresh air in and out of there as long as you run some ducting inside the cabinets. Just make sure there's no refraction inside the ducting that will touch your plants.
Just a thought
And Idk about the potential CFL
-
just starting set up
put those lights even closer the to plants like 3 inches and your gonna have to buy the most powerful cfl you can find
-
just starting set up
i would do ducting but i jsut dont think im smart enough to figure it all out. pluse simple is easyier sometimes. im only planning on keeping 2 or 3 of the plants, jsut waiting to see wich ones are teh strongest before i chop, jsut hope i dont only end up with males.
i would go for stronger CFL lights but im afraid it will be to hot in there, seing as there is no fresh air circulatin, i know its gna stay hotter in there, and i dont have a temp reader but it feels about 70 in there, and thats ideal right?
ill post some new pics in a couple of days with new growth

ay its been a minute since i poseted an update so..
i just added nutes to the soil today, there all just under 2 weeks old
i added 10-10-10 nutes seeing as theres no nutes in the soil anyhow
i might go buy plant food also
should i?
they seem to be growing with thin stems, no good.
i transplanted into plastic solo cups
the last cups were paper and absorbed water, thats no good either
this soil im using dosent seem to be that good.
it dried very fast and the soil cracks when its dry, should i transplant into MG soil?
heres some pics.
how do they look?

I would recommend Fox Farm Ocean Forest soil from all the good things I've heard here.
I'm sure stinky or someone can give you good alternative soil sggestions.
Make sure you don't go too hard on the nutes yet, you want to wait til they have at least 5 nodes to really start to kick them in the ass with ferts.
If there's no real strong air current blowing on those babies you might want to point the fan more directly at them to encourage strong stalk growth too...just a thought
They look healthy as of right now so cross your fingers
-

im new to growing myself but
for the stems just get supports for em till they get stronger
and it may be to early to be feeding them nutes
the soil i used was miraclegro for my plants and its seem to be doin excellent

I hear lots of stories of miracle gro being really hard on the nutes for early plants...
just my :twocents:

Yeah from my understanding MG is 20-20-20 and idk if u ask me that's to strong
The shit i put it was just 10-10-10, just to let it grow thwre
Idk where can i find some fox farm ina store. What type of store. Some advise, would be awsome.

Hey i just found some plant food
so should i use 30-10-10 azalea plant food or 24-8-16 all purpose plant food
That's all i can use for now. Should i fox with em or no
-
just starting set up
I would stay away from nutes for a while...I think 10-10-10 is enough for now bud

i know not to over nute dude i aint dumb, i ment when they grow up, wich one would be best, or should i get different shit?
also was thinking about LSTin one of em' hoping that ones a female.
maybe bending another.
idk
im trying to grow this as fast as i can, and get bud asap, jsut to see how easy it is and w.e, and if its worth it from this im gna go get some real seeds online and make a real setup, but just wondering, if ima try flowering at 5 weeks, how much bigger of pots should i go?
thx

well you're definitely going to want to repot into larger containers my friend (Maybe 1 gallons) during veg the roots grow way faster than the plant so root binding is a problem for small pots...
and idk about which soil to choose for flower, the plants tend to need less N for flower and the nutrient listing are Nitrogen-Phosphorus-Potassium...as in 30-10-10.
Use a soil that isn't real hot so you can add and flush what you need, Idk how much different those two soils are...so I can't really help you there...
LST is cool, just make sure you don't try to do too much too early too fast...wait til those babies get a few more nodes on em to start to work with them

Miracle grow is fine, as long as you keep in mind it already has nutes. Not a great seedling mix. But that's what I started with, and would use it again before using the Country Farms stuff, which definatelly needs better drainage. (perlite)
Google nurseries in your area, or check the yellow pages. If not in-stock, perhaps one will order it for your poor grandma, whose garden demands the very best.
In regards to being dumb...nobody has yet accused you of being dumb, with the exception of you. When you become teachable, your end result will be well-worth the humility.
Patience: Plants grow at a reasonably predictable rate. Not much you'll be able to do, as a newbie (tiz not an insult, but a designation of fact) to accelerate growth. Plus, some techniques (chemicals or hormonal stimulants) can do more harm than good without a working knowledge of what you are doing. Perhaps it's better to learn to grow, then worry about growing fast.
Once trained to supports, hard to wean them off. I always bury the stems (add more soil) up to the cotlydons.

Yeah that's what i was thinking, maybe was gna transplant into ahalf gallon in a few days, then a gallon when i flower since they will doublein size.
I never done LST or SCROG or even toped but idk its worth a shot, i figure ill start when there are 5 nodes, cuz that's where it starts budding.
Still not sure if i should stick with this soil. MG seems to stay moist to long, and id rather under water then over. Ya no? Pluse it would be easier to flush as is.
im not sure about these lights when they are bigger, might have to use both lights for one plant and take 2 out..
Either that ima get a 4 way CFL light connecter and tie it to the top, face the fans more directly on the plants, and w.e else
Works?

More light is great!
And just make sure your plants don't touch the lights...
If you're worried about space and such, you CAN start growing with 12/12 from seed...just FYI
If you do do that though, I would suggest growing a large mom somewhere else, and taking constant clones for Sea Of Green Style 12/12 growing in your cab

I didn't even see ur post rusty nah just i was high and when he said bud ifigured like as in looking down, ya no. My bad about that.
I take no offense i am a newbie and i got this post so ppl like u and sunny can help me out anyway possiable, with your techs. And pointers. Its all appriative.
But yeah i do need to burry them deeper, at least the 2 taller ones.. But im not sure yet because they weill be easier to LST with stretching stems.
-

Yes more lights is deff what i need! I don't wana grow on 12/12 because i don't have a timer for my lights yet, but as soon as i have that figured out ima probably change it up.
As of SOG that's really what i want to do and just put the mother in the cab next to it , just would be hard bcuzx all i have room to work with is 2 cabs, 1 wich this grows in, 1 necxt to it open.
Iv seen a grow on here were people actually had flowering plants in a shot glass. That is what im semi hopeing for with these cups, exept i know ima pot bigger. Just that idea.
I don't mind if they die, the more i watch them grow the more i learn, the better i become. Also its so easy to grow weed really...its amazing not everyone does it
-
just starting set up
If you do stick with the soil you have, looks like you'll need more perlite. Especially when in a larger container.
Going from one cup, to 1/2 gallon, to 1 gallon pots is kinda overkill. Going from one (kegger) cup, to 1 gallon is common, tho. (fewer transplants = less needed recovery time for transplant shock)
"you don't mind if they die...? You learn much more by trying to keep them alive.
Haven't seen a sucessful shot glass grow yet...is that competition still going on?
-

I haven't seen a fully flowered nah but im also in bigger cups and w.e so i figure its a better chance. Can u explain switching pots better? Im smokeing afat L and i don't comprehend well my bad
And i do care but i mean its not a huge deal. Its easy to start over. My boy threw a bagseed out one day on his driveway and it grew in a crack giving him like a quearter, its not hard to grow some weed as long as u got everything u need i guess.. Right?
Hit me back

1/4 oz. of cannabis, from a crack in his driveway? Hardly likely, unless it was 1/4 oz of stems, with a leaf or two.
At some point you'll have to get familiar with the search function on this website. Hit us back:
A) after you've looked-up transplanting.
B) when you are willing to start showing you are putting as much work (and research) into your grow as we seem to be.
C) when you can comprehend the replies, lol.

haha my bad dude i was blazed erlier. Ya ik what u mean, transplanting is stress full. So i think ima just transplant in 5 weeks when i go to 12/12
Other then that im LST in these cups and just test some shit.
Ill put an update up ina week or w.e
(And rusty ik i sounded like i had no clue what ur talkin about but nah im good i got it i been putting in my time, every time i lay down or aint doing something fora min im on my sidekick googleing shit about weed. Shits an obsesion. It isn't healthy)
