The self-importance is the greatest enemy of every person, of the nations, of all the mankind. Its their downfall.
We are mere humans, only another species of animal living in this grain of sand we call Earth... each one of us is only one among 6 billion of other humans like us... we are nothing. But due our enormous sense of self-importance we think we are something very great, so important that we think we have the right to influence other peoples lifes to our own benefit... we think only about our own desires, as if they were the most important thing in the world, and we cling to it and we kill and steal to satisfy them (wars, for example)... and if we are good, we think we are doing great things, and we think we are very righteous for doing it... and if someone disagree with us, we feel ofended, and feel that being offended is the right thing to do, because we are SO important that we cant afford being disagreed... in fact, all the evil, all of is rotten about mankind can be traced up to the self-importance.
Getting rid of the self-importance is one of the greatest (and hardest) accomplishments of anyone. The ones who "indulge in the dark side of the force" are exactly the ones who cant get rid of the self-importance, and are dominated by it, so they do all kinds of evil only to do what please themselves.
I could go on and on, but i still want to make a thread only about this, and also i dont want to hijack this thread.
So, thats why i say its better to learn to meditate and achieve enlightenment before spending time learning psychic skills. Cause when one is enlightened one learns its real importance (none), learns that we all are one and one person is not better or more important than other person or any other living being. And after it, this person can learn any skill without the risk of becoming seduced by the power of it, without using it for evil purposes, cause after one loses the self-importance one becomes good. Not the (proud) self-righteous good, but the TRUE (humble) good, like the real saints and enlightened ones.
