powdery mildew on bubba/master kush plants
Hi All,
I have read up on my problem and have determined it to be powdery mold. At first I thought I had gotten dust on the plant, but now that it is on newer leaves I had to rule that out.
So...I clipped off the most affected leaves this morning and increased ventilation in my vegging room. I had the fan going off with the lights as I have them on 20/4, it will stay on now.
I made the area larger to avoid crowding. I only have a white widow and a Grandaddy purple in there with the two kush hybrids, but they were touching. There are no signs of mold on the other two.
The temps are around 75-84 degrees during the day, and around 65-75 when the lights are off for the four hours.
The medium is soil and perlite. Neither under or over-watered. The humidity is never above 40% if that, so I know that is not the problem.
I forgot to add that they are under a 400 watt M.H. They are around 16-18 inches tall and are otherwise healthy. Only one of the two has slowed in growth rate. I hope I didn't miss any details.
Basically what I was wondering is...are these plants going to make the other two sick? Will this go away with the proper measures? Or would I be better off getting rid of them, or maybe sticking them separately under a 400 watt hps and get them budding and then get rid of them? The last choice would suck as that would mean another flowering room! Has anybody had any luck with the baking soda spray? Any advise will be very appreciated, especially if it will affect the other girls.
Sorry to repeat this topic, but others questions on this problem have been different in enough ways to matter. Thank you again in advance! Everything was going so well...:( Last time it was spider mites!

W3 here is what I use for that....or more truthfully for prevention of that once a week.
Serenade Disease Control - Spray | Pest Control I've had very good success with it. Follow the directions carefully and make sure to raise your lights up for a good day or two after use. I didn't once and really fried the top buds of my plants.
good luck. :)

W3 - The MxB's get powdery mildew long before the WW's & GdP's - I haven't got a clue why. :wtf: However, they seem to recover quickly, so get the Serenade on them ASAP.
The mothers are treated regularly with sulpher vapor, so whatever powdery mildew you got is recent.
Make sure to top the Widows AND fim all the side growth. You will really be glad you did. Also, the GdP grows slower than the other two strains, but will stretch like crazy to keep up with them. So, if necessary, put your GdP's up on a little stand to keep the tops even with the other plants. With the MxB's, top them once too.
...at least, that's what I heard from a friend of a friend who claims to be familiar with your strains. :D

I have battled powdery mildew on my rose bushes for years, and find that a light mist of neem oil once a week really REALLY works to prevent it.
Never spray neem to the point of runoff, just mist lightly, dry, and repeat a few days later.
The glossy film that builds up acts as a prophylactic against a wide variety of molds, diseases, and pests.
Serenade is B. subtilis, a beneficial bacteria- both Serenade and Neem can be used in organic gardening and are COMPLETELY non-toxic to humans. Word.

W3 - I just re-read your original post. If your plants are up to 18 inches, you need to either do some serious pruning or switch to flower ASAP. You have no idea how much your plants are going to grow. As it is, you are going to have to bend them over to get some decent buds.
Trust me on this. If you go another week with no pruning, your plants will be 3' tall when they start to flower, and that's just not good with a 400w lamp.
On the upside, your strains love to be pruned and will grow into nice bushy plants if you prune them right.

Hi Pharmacan, I was hoping to use one of each type as a mother plant, as I have no way to get more. :( They are getting so big! The 2 GDPs are 21 inches each (I just checked), and the white widows are 23 inches each. I have 1 GDP and 1 ww in my flower room. In there I have 2 400 watt HPS lights. I only have 1 light on at the moment as I thought that was enough for two. I was going to put in 1 of the m/b kush girls, but then I realized the mildew prob, so I will leave them for now. I can't wait for the Serenade to arrive!
I DID prune them, several times each and on every branch! They are growing like wild fire, except the 1 kush hybrid. They must have come from a good place! :D They are getting as bushy as can be as well! I was so happy until yesterday when I realized why the little lady wasn't growing so well. She's not tall, but is still a nice little bush! I can't believe I thought it was dust! It's cause they are next to an entertainment center and I forgot to dust the top of it for a while. When I got up there to dust I was shocked at the amount there was. I was hoping I just got some on those 2 plants as they were close to where I was.
Wow, I rattled on...sorry about that! I should keep a grow log on here. I have a very detailed journal I have been keeping. Thanks for the advice, and well, you know!

Hi PC, The GDPs are growing so well, almost as fast as the white widow. I have the master/bubba kush on a little stand in the veg room. Should I just top the mxb's once?
I figured I caused the mold by having them in a smaller space than I should and the fan wasn't getting around well enough. I don't blame the previous grower. :D I'm still learning and making some mistakes.
I think this problem will soon be nipped in the bud! haha...okay, so maybe I am not a comedian! Take care mate :stoned:

Hi Stinky, thank you for your advice! I have some neem oil here and would like to use it until the Serenade arrives. Would that create a reaction when the Serenade gets used? I might not even need the Serenade by the time it gets here. I will be glad to have the Serenade for future uses, and/or to avoid the prob in the future.
Oh yeah, when I last used the neem it said to mix with water and soap, is that the best way to do it? I just don't like the soap idea. Thanks again, :stoned: word. :D

Sorry I don't have a pic of it. I cut off all of the offending leaves and threw them away days ago. It looked white and was circular in pattern. I only saw it on the top of the leaves. I hope that helps a bit.
