Vaps worth it? if so what kind?
Hello all. I am only 22 years old, but have been an avid smoker for 6 years. First 3 - 4 years, was hardcore blunt smoking, and it progressed upwards of 8 blunts a day. Then, after high school, i got a few bowls, and tried getting into the habit of bowl smoking, to consume my marijuana, and by that time i caught onto the hype of how you get much more THC smoking out of a bowl then a blunt. Anyway, that didn't last long, i was back into blunts again, and now, to this day, i usually smoke upwards of 20 - 30 blunts a week, as well as many many bowl hits. I was born with asthma, its not hardcore, but i certainly cant handle as much smoke as a normal person, but i get by. Even though i dont smoke cigs, I cant even inhail a cig to this day without coughing. Anyway enough with the babbiling. Lately, ive noticed my lungs taking a ware from i assume all the smoking over the years. I cough alot, cant really take as much smoke as i use to, but marijuana is a daily part of my life, i do not want to give it up for this reason, but at the same time, the harsh smoking has to stop. Ive tried cooking with it, brownies, cookies. etc.. but as much as i enjoy it, its just not the same. I like to be able to take small ammounts of marijuana, bowls worth. And smoke it to get the quick, and effective high.
So i've always considered vaporizers, but have never smoked out of one myself, nor have i ever seen one. I cruise the net looking every now and then, i see some ranging from $70 to $600. And of course they recommend all of them, they;re selling them ;) So i want to ask you guys, the smoking community! Id assume the Volcano is the best, hence it's high price, and all around praise. And honestly, since i dont plan on stopping anytime soon, the volcano may be the buy for me.
Basicly, im asking for your feedback, recommendations, reviews, whatever you can dish out. I dont really even know how vaporizers work, but all i've heard is clear, smooth, cough-free hits, and Id love to achive that soon :)
Other then that, a few basic questions if anyone out there has the time to answer.
1.) Just as smoking out of bowls is getting more THC from your marijuana then Blunts. Does smoking out of a vaporizer get much more THC out of it then a Bowl would? in that same sense.
2.) What would be the smallest ammount of marijuana to use in 1 "hit" i guess you can say. With the volcano, i see its a bag, so how much would fill 1 bag, and would 1 bag do it? Would you hit it all as basicly 1 hit, on puff on it like you would a bowl, getting several hits out of it?
3.) So i hear with the volcano theres left over marijuana when your done? I assume this is just the buds with the THC extracted out of it right? So is it worthless and to be thrown away, or saved for a rainy day? I hear stories of people cooking with it, that'd be nice :D
4.) Is this recommended for High Quality marijuana only? Between connections and money situations, i can usually only find/afford mid grade. But, this is normally because of the tools i use to smoke, Kind bud usually goes to quickly, because i dont have an efficent way to smoke it. Hopefully the vaporizer can help me conserve KB a little better. But either way, id assume normal/mid grade would do the trick as well? Would you still achive the same "smoothness" they describe? Im sure they're describing how it smokes with the best of the best bud, which i don't have. So im curious how well vaporizers work, for the average joe's everyday connection, an average bud.

1) Yes, most people say weed lasts longer with a vape. You get more efficient cannabinoid extraction, which means you need less to get the same effect.
2) 1 bowl = 1 pack of a vape? sometimes less. It all depends on your vape. You can almost always take multiple hits out of your vape.
3) Whether you can use vape leftovers depends on how hard you've cashed them. If they're all brown and almost crispy, nothing is left. Anything you'd make out of that will be rancid. If they're just slightly brown, there might be cannabinoids left. I'd just turn up the heat and cash the weed in the vape.
4) Many people swear that mids smoke like kind when in a vape. It's a different world. You have nothing to lose (except $150) and everything to gain by using a vape, especially with asthma.

It will be hard to screw up if you get something that Vape Giant sells.
If you want to get picky, find something that uses hot air (convection) to heat the herb, rather than just putting it on a hot plate (conduction). I know that Volcanos work via convection, as does the Vapor Brothers model. You'd have to check the rest.
To get even pickier, find one with a heating component that is ceramic, not metal. For a conduction vape, the heating component is a piece of something that gets real hot, then air is pulled past it. When the air moves past the HC, it gets hot, and then it heats up your bud. Some people are concerned about using metals because of the potential for metals to emit toxins at high temps. I don't know how well-founded that fear is. The Vapor Brothers and Volcano use metals.
There is a vape called a Silver Surfer that I've heard good things about. It's priced midway between the Vapor Brothers and the Volcano. Any of those would be great for you. Like I said, it's hard to go wrong.

I have an Herbalaire. It cost about $250, and to me is basically a stripped-down Volcano -- works through the same kind of heating mechanism, but without all the bells and whistles (which are nice if you have the extra $250).
Check it out. I think it hits great. As for your questions, I think the first reply from dackst sums it up very well.

Best bang for buck: handsfree box-and-whip style vape with ceramic heating element.
The prices start around $120 for models like vapor king all the way to $150 for vapor bros.
I have a vapor bros. handsfree and added on a whip attachment that allows for use with a bong for the absolute cleanest bong hits (example of a vaporbong). You can't do that with the Volcano.
1. My setup is great (IMO, that is) because nothing is wasted. I feel you get the most out of your herb (especially because you have leftovers)
2. I used to smoke at least 1g per session with my g/f from pipes or bongs alone, now 1/2g (grinded) is usually enough. And we usually have at least 4 solid turns between the two of us before your herb starts to turn into duff. Remember, I'm using it in conjunction with a bong for HUGE bong hits.
3. The leftovers, or duff, can be made into a potent liquid with the use of alcohol, cooked, or even smoked a second time (although not preferred because of it's taste). If you plan to cook, remember the material is not as potent as fresh herb, so you need about 3 times as much. Same would apply for smoking it. I forgot to add, make sure you extract the THC when cooking and not just throw it into your food, or you'll have an unpleasantly gritty batch.
4. Every time you take a hit, the hot air passes over the surface of your herb and you get the vapor effect. I noticed with higher quality herb, you will have a lot more vapors than air. I've also always gotten high, even with the low grade material.
You should know that I go surfing as much as I can and I can say my lungs feel healthier like before I started toking. You will definately feel the benefits. HTH.

I got my vaporizer from vapordealer.com. The dual vaporizer concept is cool, but the right one doesn't get nearly as hot as the left one, so that only leaves one functioning side. However, it's digital, and it's only $90, hands free whip, ceramic heating! However, the grinder they send you is SHIT SHIT SHIT. It broke the first time I used it and the aluminum was flaking off into my bud. But for what it's worth, I don't think you can go wrong with it. I got high as hell off about .15 of mids, I mean HIGH as hell.

My Volcano Vaporizer works excellent and you can really get some good hits out of it if your weed is good and you have enough money. Obviously for 8 blunts a day, you have that kind of money so I would recommend the Volcano.
I would use my Volcano over my bong, pipe, or blunt any day. The only disadvantage is the vape should typically use a little bit more weed than the others. :rastasmoke:

The weed burns incredibly slow, and ever since i've used one, ive been wanting more and more.. unfortunatly im poor as hell. Or i'd have 7 of them in my room. =D
