When did you buy it? Many earlier models had this problem, and Microsoft acknowledged it by extending the warranty, if you have the same problem as most users. I believe you can get all the information from their website, or by calling. They then send you a box and label to send your shit, they work on it, and send it back, all for free. It's quite suprising that Microsoft has offered this, because it's costing them a lot. Anyways, that's the deal on that.
I bought mine about a year ago. It has never given me any problems until recently. I think mine may qualify for the free repair, as it is only the 3 red lights that come on and flash. And Slip, high failure rates are the price to pay for the superior system. ;)
I was under the impression if you get the "3 red rings of death" you send it to Microsoft (or where ever) and they will send you a BRAND NEW one.
As long as I don't have to pay for the repair/replacement. I did nothing to cause my Xbox 360 any problems. I've treated it like royalty since the day I bought it.Quote:

Also, do I just send them the console, or do I send all the plugs and wires too? I couldn't find a real clear answer on their site.
Just the console needs to be sent !!
Mine is only 2 weeks old , i hope i dont get any problems./
no they don't, and trust me you don't want a brand new one.. when you send it in the rebuild alot of stuff inside, you get a brand new one you're likely to have the same problem again down the road.Quote:

It sucks that it broke and it will suck not being able to play it for a bit, but if he gets it in ASAP he could have it back within a month and the console will better than when it was new.
last i heard (a month or so ago) they were STILL shipping out their stock of faulty units... if they're good enough to ship to the stores, what makes you think they're gonna care if they replace a broken unit with the same malfunctioning ones they're sending to stores?Quote:

forgot the link... and i can't seem to find the article i had found before... i could be wrong but i was pretty sure there was more than just heatsink (Although, they were minimal changes)
It's a simple problem as I said.Quote:
The reason that your xbox 360 has this problem is a design flaw by Microsoft that when your xbox overheats it causes the graphics processor and/or the CPU to lift off of the circuit board. The specific problem is related to the clamps used on the xbox 360 heatsinks (the part that cools off the CPU and graphics processor)
thats what im sayin, slips been thread whoring going on and on about the damn 33% fail rate. and then if u say something about it he starts whining like ur picking on him, well like ur picking on his beloved ps3. i myself like all the systems and as soon as the ps3 fixes there "own problems" and comes out with more games i might buy one. but untill then i'll keep playin my broke ass 33% fail rate yet fun as all get out xbox360 lmaoQuote:

I think I read a figure of them putting back 1.6 billion which would repair about 2.5 million.Quote:

yo i thought the problem was due to the processign chips, which is why all the new consoles have the new falcon chips. so it would make sense they would just swap the mobo with a refurbished new one, then repair his to do the same.
it is unlikely they would just replace it with an old one so the same thing would happen. this makes no buisness sense as it cost them to repair and they arent making that much money as it is from consoles.
don't ask me, it was just some tidbit i came across a month or so ago... it didn't make sense to me either but it was there, i doubt it, but i could have misread it.Quote:

On April 14, 2007, the Dutch TV program Kassa, as a reaction to over a thousand customers complaining that their Xbox 360s had scratched their game discs, broadcast a program in which they discussed an investigation they had launched. The test indicated that some Xbox 360s, equipped with Toshiba Samsung Storage Technology (TSST) DVD players, scratch DVDs spontaneously, even when the Xbox 360 is placed on a stable surface, rendering the DVDs unplayable.
it's the disc drive (i knew there was something else)
and no this isn't an attack as i really do not wish to stir up this crap again, i just wanted to show Melkane what i was talking about. (i'm not one for unbacked claims)
uhh that's not the 3 red lights issue though, that's just a minor issue of reports that a specific drive brand scratches discs. The 3 red lights issue is simply a heatsink issue as I said. It's an easy fix for MS. Hell if you aren't under warranty then there is even tutorials on how to fix it yourself if you feel comfortable enough about working on electronic internals.
The TC got the ring of death, not scratched discs.
My cousin actually sent his off because of the problem and he was sent a replacement system instead of the one he sent in. You'll know this because it'll have a paper in it saying that this is a replacement system. But these replacement systems are actually systems that had the same problem but was refurbished so they definitely dont send out new systems but they send out replacement refurbished systems.
refurbished.... i've hated that word since super nintendo... lol... i'm having a george carlin mommentQuote:

i would not accept something back refurbished/used i'd take it back to the store and get a new one i never send anything in even if i don't have a receipt i demand i get a new one as i bought it from that store not from the manufacture i could see if i bought it from the people that made it but i did'nt i bought it from lets say walmart them being the middle man and being thats why the price is more than from the manufacture should they not be some what responsible for the product there selling if not that would be saying hey it's ok for u to be a middle man and jack up the price of the product but when it breaks i'll just go to the trouble and send it back to where u "walmart" bought it from to sell to me and make the profit from me naw i will take a new one please!!!!
wow that sucks mr.bubbles, hope that works out for u...damn i just got my 360 about 3 weeks ago and if this happens to me im not gonna be a happy camper...that thing even though cheaper than the ps3 is just way to expensive to break down like that
