Lightulb Vaporizer: How to...

This is a tutorial on how to construct and use a lightbulb vaporizer. It's a simple and easy to make contraption that will save you time and money and keeps the smell to a minimum, perfect for college dorms (my purpose).

Materials:

1. Lightbulb, any type, shape, size or brand, just make sure the lining (if it has a white lining) is powder, not the type that is painted on. Halogen bulbs also may pose a health risk.
2. 20 oz. plastic water bottle.
3. Straight pen body tube.
4. Pocket knife, scissors or other suitable cutting device.
5. Masking or duct tape.
6. Salt.
7. Lighter.
8. and of course: buds.


Construction:

1. First take your preferred lightbulb and cut around the small black plastic ring where the bulb makes contact with an electrical source when plugged in. Cut the metal, it is soft aluminum and is easily taken down by scissors or a knife.
2. Once the hole has been cut you can take this time to clean it up and make it look neat.
3. You will probably find a small glass cylinder sticking up from the bulb. This is where the argon was sealed into the bulb. This may be snapped off and will most likely break off without trouble. If it shatters, do not be alarmed, but break it into a garbage can just in case.
4. Now break away all the glass around the hole and make it as large as possible.
5. Now remove the filament and all wires and glass inside the bulb.
6. Now get salt and put about two table spoons inside the bulb. This will remove the powder lining and all impurities on the glass. Put one finger over the end of the bulb and swish the salt around to gather up the rest of the dust.
7. Now take the water bottle and cut off the top portion where it starts to taper into the top.
8. Then cut slits up towards the top of the bottletop all the way around the bottle then bend the slits inwards to make the opening smaller. You may need to trim the bottle according to your lightbulbs size and shape.
9. The cap of the bottle is the most important part of the device. First, cut a hole smaller than your pen body into one side of the top. A leather punch or screwdriver works well for this. Scissors are too big.
10. Make an indentical hole on the other side of the bottle top.
11. Choose one of the holes to be the carb and the other to hold the pen body. It doesn't matter really.
12. Back to the water bottle; place the slitted end over the top of the lightbulb and mold the bottle around it making as close a fit as you can. Put a few peices of masking tape over the seal as a preliminary fixture.
13. Once you've secured the top, tape all the way around it and make a permanent and airtight seal all the way around the top of the bulb and to the top of the bottle.
14. Now back to the bottle cap. Use your lighter to soften one of the holes and then force the pen body through the hole to make an airtight seal. If with this first try it is not airtight, then use some tape to make the seal.
15. Now screw the cap onto the water bottle top and you're set to go.

Use:
1. Grind up your bud and put about an eighth of a gram into the bulb. (This should suffice for one person, as the vapor is much more potent than the smoke).
2. Put the grinded bud into the bulb by taking off the cap and dropping it into the bulb.
3.. Cover both the holes, the stem and the carb, with your fingers as shown in the pic.
4. Flic your Bic and hold it close enough to the bulb, under the greens, but do not touch the flame to the bulb. If the bulb blackens then it's too close.
5. Once you see vapors start to swirl around the bulb then you can stop the heat, let it accumulate for about 10 seconds then release the carb and quickly suck all of the air out of the bulb.
6. Sit back and enjoy your new bulbvap and the smooth vapor-high. :thumbsup:

when u get tired of waiting so long to get high of the vape..

pour in some gasoline
(half full)
roll up a bounty paper towel
and stick it in the top
(make sure its pretty tight so gas cant leak out)
take it to the woods, or your asshole neighbors house
light the wick (paper towel)
and throw that sum bitch:cool:

hey I have a few questions abt that...when i heat it up the vapor starts filling the bulb...but how do i know if i heat it up too much? do i stop heating it right when it starts swirling? Ive always thought vapes were less harsh than smoking, why do my hits are so harsh?!

Yeah usually once I see some vapors swirling, I'll leave it for about 5 more seconds then take the hit immediately. As for the harshness, this may depend on the bud you're smoking, but generally people aren't ready for a new sensation when inhaling vapor because it actually may be hotter than the smoke you inhale. It is also 99 percent THC in the vapor, the purity of the vapor may also have an impact on how it feels upon inhaling. Leaving the bud in one spot on the bulb may burn it and you may end up inhaling more smoke than vapor. Sometimes the bulb may get hot enough to continuously vaporize THC without a flame under the bulb. This is generally the most efficient way to create the vapor but it may sometimes be hard to coordinate and find the best time to take the flame off.

be careful with the lightbulb though- I once burned my hand on the glass after heating it up- you get kindof careless after several hits. It works, but I decided, it would be worth the $382 i spent on my volcano (check em out on Ebay...used!!)

Yeah I agree, you can get a bit distracted after a few hits haha. I put an insulating layer of sports tape over the masking tape on mine to keep the heat off. As long as you don't touch bare glass you should be fine, but redhot is right, you can melt your skin with the glass after it's hot.

meh, ive made those before and i never liked them much, mostly cuz my friend i was with didnt know what he was doing when he was trying to heat it, i prefer to just smoke it then go through all that trouble

lightbulbs vapes are pretty cool to make, but they are so annoying to smoke out of, it takes a while for you to vaporize it, and sometimes you can burn your fingers, so meh.

i wanna get a collection of lightbulb vapes made of different lightbulbs. like you coold have one of the swirling bulbs and a shotgunning floresent bulb. i am not a huge fan of them but they could be cool to collect kinda.

I get pretty sweet highs vaping a lightbulb. While I vape I turn the lights off and get iTunes playing with the visualizer.
iTunes + candlelight will give me a very creative high.

but anyways is it safe to use a lightbulb thats been used?? or should we use a brand new one?

im making one and would also suggest safty glasses. and does anyone know what that brown material inside the metal screw part is?

i think that brown stuff is the glue that holds the metal part to the glass bulb

As for a used or new bulb, either will work fine, and is safe. The brown substance inside the bulb is a dual purpose inulator and adehesive. No health risk from this substance as long as you dont burn it directly and inhale. :thumbsup:

I just made one of these last night, it looks really fantastic. I'm going to try it out later tonight and report back :D

i made one but the bulbs are REALLY fragile. i made about 5 of them and all the bulbs broke, so i just said fuk it and smoked outa the broken bulb and they get u high with nutin at all very nice. but the smoke is definately very harsh at first but u get use to it.

i just made a vaporizer and i can't get the stuff broke down to powder, is that ok? and also, how can you really tell that it is cooked through?

im not sure wat u said xgus21x but im guessin you cant get the white powder off the bulb...just use salt and shake it in there but if that doesnt work then you prolly cant get it off. and you will tell that its vaporizing wen you see light smoke trailing out of the weed

You dont necessarily need to make the buds powder, if thats what you're talking about, but make sure they are grinded thoroughly. You also don't really need to burn the weed, just heat up the air around it to vaporize the THC and cannabinoids, the browner the buds get upon vaporization, the more THC you have extracted, but get it too burnt and you may inhale smoke that doesn't even have THC in it. So bake the buds till the're brown, but not burnt.

Just a reminder to everyone using a vaporizer: Do not cook the buds until they smoke, you do not want to inhale smoke that was heated inside the bulb, the point is to vaporize the THC, not burn the weed. Wait until the vapors swirl around the bulb and then inhale, do not wait until the buds start to smoke.

OK so i just started the process of making one of these things but I didnt have any salt so I used formula 420 (which I think has salts in it?). Just wanted to see if anyone has heard of any health risks with using these lightbulbs. It seems like there are probably a bunch of chemicals and stuff inside here, but who knows.

just made one and took a hit and its pretty good but the only thing is there is condensation forming inside and the bud is sticking to the sides :(

nvm just held the lighter over the water and it went away.... just took about 3 more vapor hits and ill say im pretty fucked up. My head is moving a mile a second it feels like

Sounds like most of you are having good results. Just remember not to get any water in the bulb and shit like that. Keep it safe and make sure you don't heat the bulb too hard everytime you vape because the bulb may crack if it is used in an excessive manner. No worries, easy to make another if it does indeed crack! :thumbsup:

I got two questions:

1. Anyone know a good way to get the built-up THC residue outta the bulb so its still smokable/eatable/useable?

2. Whenever I use salt to get the white off the sides of the bulb, it never comes out perfect, there is still a slight white residue or salt residue left in he bulb. Could I be doing something wrong?
