why does music have to cost a fortune
ive been playing music almost my entire life, i have never made anything of it but my own pleasure of making music, what bothers me it the actual cost of ANY musical instrument, my entire guitar gear cost over 1000.00 which took me years to put together, anyone just starting out gets really screwed on cost and craftsman ship of thier instrument.
i have gotten a pearl drumset(no hardware/cymbals) very cheap on craigslist and decided i wanted to play drums again, its been about 10yrs since i played drums full time and i missed them terribly so i headed to Guitar Center..........
GOD DAMN THIEVES i tell you, i dont remember paying out the ass for cymbals and hardware but damn man i dropped 200 bucks and didnt even get half of what i needed, i dont want to sound like a cheap ass but 150.00 for a cymbal is a bit pricey for me just to buy for no damn reason other than self amusment.
i still need a snare stand( 45.00)
2 cymbals stands (50.00 each)
and 2 crash cymbals (100-150.00 each)
so i still need to spend about 300 or more just to play them....:wtf:
thank god i bought new heads for it months ago(110.00 total) and yet they still sit here looking good with no way of playing them yet.......
my advice is to buy used gear as new stuff is so freaking expensive, thats my rant for the day

Yeah I hate how much musical equiptment is but atleast most stuff is quality. I got a Pearl drum set and all together it cost me over $1,000 but it was worth it and it will probably still be good when I have kids. Atleast instruments keep their value not like a $600 iPhone that will break in a year or two. Usually I check musican's friend for the scratch and dent because I got my drums like $400 off just because the color in the shells is all foggy but they still sound good.

im on a mission to complete these drums, my neighbors are going to love me loads, if they thought the guitar amp is loud wait till they hear drums and cymbals exploding at 1:30am....AHAHAHAHA
why does music have to cost a fortune
lol i still remember when you posted that thread about getting the drums off craigs list... that was a good while ago :p
and yeah, i can't believe how loud drums are, i had never actually heard them up close til recently, this dude we used to get bud from had a full set in his trailer (it was his sons, but he played 'em too) my god... i thought my head was gonna explode.

I played the violin in grade school, I think it cost like 500 dollars, my mom was real pissed when I quit.

i love how loud they, nothing beats just rocking out at ungodly volumes and having your ears ring from the noise hours later, i miss that........
why does music have to cost a fortune
i know exactly what you mean, im hoping to go into a career in music, going to school for recording and producing and there's lots of things i could do right now if i were able to afford the equipment, however instead i just have to work with what i got and can afford and hope one day i'll be able to afford my more ambitious ideas

awwww yeah
why does music have to cost a fortune
so its all set up and played it a few hours and made a few tweaks, all i need now is a 18" crash and 20"-22" ride cymbal, i miss all this fun i had and its too bad no one i know plays guitar much anymore but oh well, i need a tom rim for the 2nd tom on the bottom too but that isnt really needed.
looks like my guitar and amp are going to sit idle while i brake in these drums, figured id take a pic of the mix and match pearl export/forum drums.

added another cymbal and stand and bought a new 16" tom head, the drum guy at guitar center talked me into trying Paiste PST 5 cymbals saying it was better than the ZBT or B8 series hands down, i already had a 16" ZXT and it sounds kinda shitty so i was hoping it would be atleast a little better.
by the looks of it, it did seem like a nicer cymbal from the get go, the lathe marks weren't as pronounced and the under side was smooth as glass unlike the ZXT, it has twice the volume and a much brighter ring to it and it doesnt require much strike to make it sound, needless to say its a damn good cymbal and sounds great.
well im excited anyways :D

lol pawn shop guitars are the shizzel i got a jackson slsmg from a pawn shop for 150 gbp. steal
i dont mind paying for instruments, cus u know the craft and the skill that goes into making them.
it does piss me off though. especially, but mainly the people in music shops. most guys are fucking sound and let u play and piss around, but its the jackass's that correct you or just plain try and show you up cus theres a cute girl. i love however going into the most pretentious shop in town thats a good 30 % more than anywhere else and shredding up some pantera or dream theatre.
shit guitars are reasonably priced, but hold a great advantage in that if you can make them sound good when you do upgrade it sounds so much sweeeeter

i have 15yrs invested playing guitar, it just doesnt do it for me anymore, it sits there months at a time untouched, i bought a new amp hoping it would inspire me to play more but i bet i turned it on less than 20 times since december, its a great amp too (Line6) has endless amounts of effects to play with, i guess i lost interest playing and i no longer play as good as i used to due from not playing it enough.
to me drums are too much fun, i always enjoyed them, now i just need a friend to jam with.
why does music have to cost a fortune
drums are wikid man, ive only been playing for 6 years. im at the point now where i can play the music in my head i used to hear before i wanted to play. i jam with 4 diff people regularly. my teacher. my band. a bloke whose who plays wikid acoustic and im teaching the kid across the road guitar and drums. i get my drum fix there.
i gotta be honest the more i play the drums teh more i love them and drummers are really hard to find. hes awesome hes only 14 but hes like my little bro. hes come on no end inthe last few months. i can here him practicing when i smoke outside.
hes got a full pearl adn symbian set up. he got it for his birthday, only child o divorced parents. he said he played em :)
jamin is the best thing man, its what i live for especially when you play with people who all play differently.
at the mo my bands got a 3 guitar 2 bass 1 shit hot drummer flow. its a complete mess at times. but at others its sublime. we have a few tracks that start of in unican, break off into like a single guitar rhythmn with alternate bass.guitar rhytmn x2 then well mix it up slow it down, build it up to a unison climax. its so hard to descirbe but it fucking works. its abit of alogistical nightmare. but were all boys from back in the day so jamin comes really easy
hope that you finad a jamin partner.
peace
