It came from the closet....
Closet Grow, bagseed, appx. 35 days veg., FF Ocean mix (started w/ black gold seedling mix), good sized pots (1'' of rocks at bottom for drainage), 400w HPS, 18/6. Good ventilation, fans on.
1/2 R/O water, 1/2 distilled water /gallon 1/4 tsp. fish emulsion (5-1-1), 1/4 tsp. Max-sea all purpose (16-16-16) Slightly burnt 1 plant 1st feeding, flushed w/a little h2o2 quickly and recovered. - Water once every 4-5 days, wait until 3-4'' down into soil is dry. (About to drop fish emulsion (5-1-1) and replace with Roots Organics (0-5-4) to begin flowering)
Temps 75-80 day (got an a/c!), 60-70 night. humidity 50-60. (First indoor grow....!)
I am about to finish up construction for the closet.......and I wanted to make sure everybody else on here approved of the work.
Pic 1 - Lookin good?
Pic 2 - Starting to block the thermometer! Nice! Haha....see my foot?
Pic 3 - 2'' passive intake. Caulked, pantyhose over bottom for better light blockage.
Pic 4 - Shot of 6'' can fan (270 cfm) mounted to wall w/ 6''-4'' reducers.
Pic 5 - Inside shot of passive intake.
The plan is to route 4' duct from inside of closet, out of hole cut into plywood door, up to fan, then continuing from fan up into the attic, where my carbon scrubber will be placed.
Questions - Should I add another passive intake? If so, how big? Another 2''?
Does this look good?

Also, what are the consequences of outgrowing your space? (as I have done...) The fan took longer to get than expected, and so it was only 2 days ago that I was able to mount the fan and caulk it. I would have wanted to induce flowering probably last week (pic 6 below) so I could remove any males and give space to the remaining ladies....but the fan situation = no ability to close closet door, hence no 12 hrs. of darkness. (not to mention, a guaranteed temp. problem)
AND, 3 days ago, I spaced off and fed them all veg feeding formula (w/ the fish emulsion) instead of switching with the Roots Organic (0-5-4) So now, I'm thinking I'm just going to have to start the flowering feeding the same night I switch to 12/12. (I wanted to feed them the 0-5-4 a couple days before switching the lights) anyway...
Pic 6 - From This....
Pic's 7,8,& 9 - To this, in a week...nice.

Update:
Day 3 of flowering. Things are getting a little cramped in here, on the watch for males.....
Temps are stable, 75-80 during day. 60-70 night. They've done a bit of stretching since I raised the light, went from 1.5' of distance to 2' after leaves began to show signs of heat stress. This is a used (do not know how much) 400w HPS. Could the bulb be old? I mean, 2' seems kinda close for 400w as it is.....
-
It came from the closet....
Alright! Day 8 of flowering. 1 male showed himself 3 days ago, yanked him. (it was the one in the blackgold/FF mix, INTERESTING!:wtf:) A lot of stretching on 3 of the babies though.....
Out of 6 (random, year-old bagseed) plants, I find it hard to believe that 5 are female......how long until I can be sure that they won't "reverse" on me? I am ultra-paranoid about light leaks and hermies, so I made sure they have no light leaks and complete darkness during night cycles.
questions, comments, concerns? Anything?
Edit: I'm aware that we have a grow-log section for this, but I can't post pictures yet in that forum!

It came from the closet....
Forgot to ask, since I was counting on only having 2-3 females at most, I fit 6, 3 gallon pots in there. When I pulled the male, I inspected the roots and sure enough, they were just starting to hit the container and wrap around.
What should I do? let all 5 go and let them get rootbound? Or should I sacrifice 2 and transplant the 3 healthiest ones to larger containers? I wish I could just throw 2-3 of them outside to finish but unfortunately, that would be out of prop. 215 compliance. (DAMN those 100 sq. feet.)
Also, pruning. There are a couple large fan leaves that hang over emerging bud sites and put them in the shade. Should I chop em' off to allow light to get to the emerging bud sites, or should I just let the fan leaves do their natural thing? I know I'm being too conservative for my own good, I already realize that ScrOG/LST would have served me much better than just letting them go.....lesson learned.....
Here's a pic without the HPS lighting, (just flash from camera) taken like 30 seconds before light went on.

daammmmmmmmmmmmm they look real good.

It came from the closet....
Day 11 of flowering.....still not sure whether or not to pull 2 of them and transplant the rest, or let all 5 go and get rootbound......I'd hate to kick 2 outside (like a 99% chance they would get stolen....happened last 2 years), but if thats what it will take for the other 3 to do good....then so be it.
Is it just me or is there alot of stretching going on? 400w HPS MUST be old. The smell is just beginning to get nice and pungent....how long 'till trich's? Any guesses? I love how they took to the rectangular canopy shape instead of just trying to grow the walls down....indoor is so much fun.
And I guess I was right, all 5 are ladies for sure. YAHTZEE!

It came from the closet....
humm looks like a little streching but it might be the hps light during veging. but they do look good and they should stop streching after a few weeks of flowering..peace from new mexico

They do look good....they're stretching for two reasons...you just turned them and your light is fairly high up.
imo....I would dump the two (one is a hermie?) and transplant the three. Spend your energy trying to get the most out of the best three. I think you'll yield better with three good plants than five squished rootbound ones.

:( I just transplanted them........Im so fucking nervous about them. I don't know why, I transplanted 5 of the original 6 no problem. I didn't like the fact I felt all of those rootbound roots bend/stress as I moved them w/ my hands. After all was said and done, they "went to sleep" an hour late (my lights are, luckily timed to the natural sunset, so I started at twilight and ended an hour later just at "dark")...hope that makes sense. And yeah, it took me an hour, some non-grow-related problems just HAD to come up RIGHT as I was in the middle of transplanting. I watered w/ just a splash of superthrive w/ a gallon of R/O. and SHIT! I can only fit 3 pots in my closet now................goodbye perfectly good female plant.......have fun outside.:noel:
Here are some pics from earlier today, day 15 flowering. I'll post pics of the 3 tomorrow.......

It came from the closet....
FUCK Friday the 13th! AHHHHH! I was raising my lights by myself (should have known better) and....WHOOPS! there goes a 400w HPS and ballast into the canopy! Luckily, the bulb survived......unfortunately, the plants broke the fall.
Pic 1 - Today. (Day 17 flowering) They do look pretty good for just having gone through a transplant 1 night, to a massive (20lbs. at LEAST) impact the next day. I'm guessing that I lost somewhere around 1/2 - 3/4 oz. of finished product because of this.
Pic 2 - these 2 took the brunt of it, unsalvageable.
Pic 3 - This bitch had her main stock split in two! The entire plant was laying in 2 opposite directions. ADVICE: tape works wonders! Marijuana will recover from AMAZING trauma if taken care of appropriately. (the Superthrive from the previous night had to have helped tremendously also.)
Pic 4 - Not so bad, just cracked over, Doing well now w/ tape.
Pic 5 - What 5-6 seconds of time will do if glass cover from bulb touches the tips. Toasty.
I guess if that's the worst that has happened so far, I'm doing pretty good.
Also, the 4th plant is now doing well outside. Time will tell if she will go hermie/back to veg/both due to the still early season conditions outside, it is not late enough for normal flowering. We'll see, but she's happy for now.

It came from the closet....
Day 19 of flowering. Looking good considering what they have now been through. No comments/attention regarding the disaster? progress? :wtf:
Anybody with experience care to estimate how far along they are?? How much longer? Very low probability any are the same stain/genetics, all random bagseed. But, most/all flower sites do look as if they are at the same stages/size.
-
It came from the closet....
So how am I doing?! How about size of buds for amount of time? 22 days now of 12/12. The tiny trichomes that have started to form have made the pain of losing cola sites easier to deal with....
-
It came from the closet....
Sorry Nor....I got lost but I am back now. Congratulations on dropping your light on your plants.....you are now an experienced grower.
Your plants look like they are coming along great. 8-10 is the general range....sometimes you can harvest them at six weeks (i used to) but going the full time can really help with your yield.
-
It came from the closet....
Surprised there isn't much love for you, NorK.
I found that if you spread the love, love will come your way. You may call me confusedious. :p
Ok, for my humble fairly n00b observation.
Stretch - Check
Light too high causing stretch - check
Already been told what caused it - check
Reiterating the obvious from me - check check.
And I'll join the "all things considered" bandwagon with the fact you still have some around, they're looking healthy, sans the skin grafts, and your almost done!
22 days O' flowering. A guesstimate would be you still have 3-5 weeks left. Now would be a good time to get a magnifying glass and have it on hand to check those Trichs in the next coming weeks.
The buds are coming along nicely from what I can tell, your entering the fattening stage. ;) And it's about to get a whole lot of funky in the surrounding areas, it may smell now, but just wait.
I'd go out on fan leaf limb and declare them Indica, most likely there is Sativa mixed in there. The leaves aren't quite wide enough to be solely Indica, and the blades don't seem long enough to be solely Sativa. That's just based on the ton of pictures I've seen, someone can correct me if I'm wrong, no worries.
All in all your doing a good job man.
We all, hopefully, learn from our mistakes. As long as there is something to smoke on while you ponder it all, it's all good.
Advice if your open for it.
1. Get rid of the 4" ducting and replace with 6". Your CFM takes a nasty hit when reduced, luckily your inline fan seems decent enough to hump the load, but swapping the duct would be mucho benefitio.
2. Either buy a cool tube if you got the change or build one with the tutorials located on this site. This will let your 400 get all up close and personal with the plants & will keep the temps lower, not that heat seemed to be an issue. Would solve that little stretching issue too.
3. Add some more 90 degree elbows to your intakes and you won't have to worry about light leaks, remember, light leaks both ways.
4. Are you using chains to hang your light? If your by yourself, lower one side at a time. Even if you have to do several time to level it, it's worth the plants life.
5. Wire bread ties will also hold a stem together and they don't leave behind a tape mess.
6. Slow down and enjoy. I'd like to say that the plants pick up on your stress levels, but I wouldn't be qualified to say that, but seriously, go in happy and mellow and come out happy and mellow.
Keep it up!

Nice. Thanks alot hound/dizzy. I feel alot more welcome here now.
Yeah, I'm loving how there doing now, I just can't wait till the buds completely "form" (when you just see the bud, no more empty spots where you see the stalks!)
Definitely learned alot so far from everybody here. Thanks for that. (Advice much appreciated too dizzy, all being helpful.)

Yes, LST/ScrOG. So far I'm also planning on getting a cool tube, changing out the 4'' duct to 6'', and using quality seeds/genetics.

For sure, I've always believed in a positive ch'i/mood environment for the plants. I always try to be mellow and caring.

Bullshit. I missed a male hermie pod on one of the plants. Thre are like 10 seeds throughout the crop......ARGH.
I can't wait until my 2nd indoor grow.........
-
It came from the closet....
And a big fat ass DOH is said by all...
I'm not up to speed on what to do at this point, but I know you can still smoke seeded bud. :)
Just chalk it up as experience my friend.
-
It came from the closet....
Yep....and realize that the resulting seeds should be female which is at least a small consolation. :(
-
It came from the closet....
It was pollinated by a hermie. Won't all the seeds carry the hermie trait/be hermie seeds?
-
It came from the closet....
No more seeds so far....... Maybe 10 of them throughout the crop, like I had estimated. (We'll really see when I smoke it/break it up.)
Nugs are gettin' fuller/bigger.

Dude, if it really went herm, and I really hope this doesn't happen to you, you'll have seed nirvana all throughout the buds... When you do smoke it, break it down into shake, otherwise... well I'm sure you've smoked a seed or two in your time.
Good luck man.

Only partly Herm, due to a light leak. 7-8 male pods started to develop around the area of the light leak, I picked and pulled carefully but I ended up missing 1 and didn't notice until it had already "popped." 2-3 days later I noticed the seeds starting to form on the buds. Not since has there been any more male pods, and the light leak has been fixed. The 10-12 seeds I counted have now fully developed and there have been no more more forming seeds, new (seed free!) bud growth has started.
I have boughten oz.'s before that had like 3-4 seeds in the entire oz.. Is this what happened to those plants? A little pollination, a couple seeds, and continued bud growth? If so, sweet! A couple seeds here or there isn't a big deal. I usually smoke with my bong, so I always break up my herb anyway, I'll catch those seeds. Lesson learned = Light leaks are no bueno.
BTW, thanks Dizzy to Hound for checkin' my grow out and giving input/helping me out.

Pic's from yesterday, no more seeds have formed! Smelling nice.

Wow, those look very good Norkali....keep in mind that the seeds you get from those hermied plants will all be female....at least a little bit of sunshine there. :)

Day 47 of flowering!
One plant is not too far off, 50%/50% clear/cloudy crystals
The other two are still going with many clear still.
The center plant is starting to show a little purple in tips of the buds.

It came from the closet....
Remember the 4th female that had gotten kicked outside?
Here she is.
Droopy I know, watering is a task and a half though.
She re-vegged and didn't hermie. Will she flower good? It's already Aug. 13th and the buds look a little small.....
Crazy pink/purple pistils huh?
-
It came from the closet....
Shit looks nice. Lucky the outdoor didn't hermie. I think she should be ok.
-
It came from the closet....
Cut down at day 53 of flower. :)
The other 2 are still growin'.....
-
It came from the closet....
we shall await weight and smoke report......
-
It came from the closet....
So I weighed it out to 96.7 grams after at least a 1/4 oz. was smoked/picked.
That wasn't including the small sucker buds on the bottom that I am still needing to make bubblehash out of either....
I probably grew around 110-115 grams.
The first plants was great, the last two that experienced pH problems at the end were not as good as they could have been, they were picked early after the pH disaster. Good learning though.
Cinderella 99 grow coming very soon......
My Cooltube was SHATTERED when it arrived at my house today!!! :cursing::(:icon506::yippee:
Stay tuned.....
