Why does everyone hate metal?

I like mainly metal, heavy metal, screamo you know. Well i hate how everyone says that its not even music because its just screaming. Most people just listen to 5 seconds of a song and are like its screaming and i dont want anything to do with it. Its the best kind of music, its takes a lot of talent and the emotion in it is real. Classic rock is good too but i think that it doent have the emotion in it and i think it could be related to rap just because of the way they sing and what they sing about.

It's like people who say slipknot is noise - it's not. It's music, it's detailed, and i can hear everything perfectly so i dont know why they cant.

I've liked metal since i was about 13, i was even in a metal band for a good few years - toured and everything, and we recorded quite abit of material, enough for about 3 albums.

How do people like rap?

I love metal. The heavier the better...and people make it seem like its easy to scream...which its not..it actually takes alot of practice

I like all kinds of music including rap and metal and even some country. some people just aren't very adventurous with their ears I guess. And some people just dont like it and thats ok, too.

Because it's too loud, i can't understand any lyrics, it sounds like the same noise. It's not classic rock and it's not reggae. That's why i hate it.

The only metal i really listen to at this point is King Diamond and Mercyful Fate, though i will always hold a special place in my heart for maiden. I really hate what metal has turned into over the years.

Some rappers are talented and rap about shit that is important...like tupac and biggy....nas....

While MOST modern hip hop is all about jewelry, money, women, drugs, and cars

Even though some of the beats may be catchy and even creative, I cant stand to listen to faggots who are cocky egotistical fuckin pricks whos lives revolve around superficial shit...I mean yeah....money is NICE to have...but when you're sayin "I got money in the bank, shawty what you drank"....you're just a faggot in my book

Indeed... i like almost any kind of metal, and screaming is nice, but with moderation. TOO much can become annoying. Sepultura is very good indeed, one of the best Brasilian bands. Angra is very good too. Its melodic power metal, with FAST guitars. :chainsaw:

Im not saying bands like Slipknot and Sepultura arent talented, they just make music that sounds absolutley horrible to MY ears.

Personally, I feel screamo has taken metal in an entirely wrong direction. I don't know if "screamo" is meant to mean a screaming version of "emo", but it sounds like that to me. It's true, screaming does take some very strong vocals, but there's proper death metal screaming that sound really good, and then there's screamo.... which to me sounds like angry teenagers making music for angry teenagers. To each is own though. As I always believed music is more about what you take from it than what others think it delivers.

This is the only part of this message board that bothers me... the extream lack in metalheads and the extream amounts of Rap (though expected with this being a cannabis forum and all). Metal is the only music for me.. has been and always will be my form of music. Though to the OP, get your shit straight... screamo isn't metal. It's a disgusting bastard child of Emo, and to put things bluntly... emo in all forms is SHIT! Though I can't blame people for mixing things up... There's so many shitty bands calling themselves metal it's rediculous. Slipknot is the worst of these bands.. Nu-metal pop SHIT that likes to dress in silly costumes and pretend their something their not

Metal = Megadeth, Cannibal Corpse, Mayhem, Death, Gorgoroth, Pantera, Immolation.

Not a bad list. I would consider some of the best metal out there: Motorhead, Megadeth, Old Metallica, Sepultura, Slayer, Death, Arch Enemy, Dark Tranquillity, and Iron Maiden.

In my opinion, anything besides like Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, and Pantera is straight fucking garbage. The screamings got to go. And with regards to rap, i like rap, at least good rappers know how to put words together fluidly and flow rather than just scream nonsensical shit above repeatedly used and abused drop-D metal scales, not that most rap production today isnt as bad as that... Music in general these days sucks.

I think i saw Isis at staples center last year they were pretty fuckin cool... they opened for Tool (which was just fucking sick)

there's good rap and bad rap. certain people in that "culture"...more like counter culture...like the gangster shit.. consider it hardcore. far from what's on the radio.

just like metal... there's commercial and "real" shit.

both types of sound are hated a lot.
maybe because they aren't relaxing and pleasant. and the only emotion they cause is anger.
and music, to me, is allllll about what mood it makes. yes, there are rap songs that make a mood different from the "booty-fucking" mood that most carry and

I love metal. Metal today sucks though. I hate the screaming. Slayer is about as screamy as I like. It's the same reason I hate mainstream rap these days. The lead singer/rapper puts on a facade. You don't have to scream like a demon from DOOM or talk about how tight your DEagle is to be hard. Wu-Tang was as hard as any rap group ever, but they were lyracists. Black Sabbath was harder, meaner, and grittier than any Lamb of God track could ever hope to be. The riffs are clouded in a haze of shitty guitar tone, and the singer sounds like a bad mock of Hellraiser. Complete shite. Hatebreed=GAY, LoG=Gay, Children of Bodom=queers. Listen to real metal. Slayer, the first four Metallica albums, Priest, Maiden, stuff that takes talent. Iron Maiden, now THAT is talent. Iron Maiden>any metal band you think is sweet.

There are a few good metal bands.
Scorpions (w/Shenker)
Early Motorhead
Deep Purple
Blue Cheer
Bongzilla

But a lot of metal is poser trash. Too much of it for the rest to be taken seriously.
At least SOME rap represents a lifestyle based in reality, not some teenage goth fantasy.
So, what if you're in a really great metal band?
You might as well be in a really great polka band, because only a few people will give a rat's ass.

Metal is amazing, im glad to be a "metal head". Although I like screaming in songs I hate if its used just for effect and not to potray any emotion. I lean more towards power metal like iron maiden which would be my favourite band.

I like's me some metal.. here are some of my fav metal bands

Building Better Bombs, Deftones, High on Fire, ISIS, Kyuss, Mastodon, Pelican, S.O.A.D, and of course Tool

Isn't Deftones Inde? And SOAD and Tool are alternative.. not metal.

Man, that's awsome you understand the greatness that is Motorhead. Almost all the kids into metal today don't even know who Motorhead are. IMHO, I think they're just as worthy of the "founding fathers of metal" title as Black Sabbath. The way I see it, Sabbath invented metal, Motorhead made it heavy metal. Yet inerestingly, at the same time, Lemmy insists to this day that Motorhead are "just rock 'n roll". They did some fine blues with "Whorehouse Blues" as well. :pimp:

Yeah I understand where you're coming from if you're a real metal purist. But the way I see it, for what Arch Enemy does, they do it perfectly. It's just pure death metal, immensely skilled guitar, and solid vocals (angela gossow seems likeable and intelligent too).

As for Dark Tranquillity, you have to understand the Gothenburg style and how DT are revered as the creaters of the genre. I know Gothenburg has been turned into crap, macho assholes who sound like angry teenagers (IE Soilwork), but DT is the one band that really managed to keep it pure. Plus they have some incredibly catchy riffs.... but this is coming from me, who has DT among my favorite bands. and I'm really damn high, really really high, so I ramble lol.

Can't say I'm crazy about the Death, but I can't deny Chuck Shuldners talent. I mean that guy has some incredible skill and a great voice... the style just doesn't really do it for me. Although "Sound Of Perseverence" was amazing, a couple of my favorite songs are from there including "Voice of the Soul" and "Story to Tell".
