Nutrition Deficiency -- I think iron? NEWBIE I NEED HELP
i've attached 3 photos of my plants. At first they were doing fine but the growth is now stunted. the lower leaves are turning yellow and falling off so i added a fertilizer (15-15-15). I think i overfertilized which caused some of the leaf edges to burn. Regardless of the fertilizer, the soil has perlite, sand, peat moss, and a little bit bird manure. It is very spongy and seems fine, but the plants won't un-stunt their growth and the leaves continue turning yellow despite the fertilizer. Any ideas what i should do? this is my first time growing indoors

Hey pouyan,
Have you added any lime to your soil mix? Peat tends to be acidic as does bird doo. You might have a pH issue causing your nutrient problem.

Try running Ph'd water through the soil or just regular tap water will do, if the plant changes its character then that's your problem. If the plant gets worse then you will want to feed but flush before that so you get a better idea of what the problem is. Maybe there is somebody around who can give a specfic diagnosis but that's what i would.

That's great advice Mega, always flush first. Do that first pouyan.
D'oh! Should said that to start with...

if the nutes hurt the plant more then stop them if u haven't...also have u checked the ph of the runoff on the plant or the ph of your water...this info would be helpful...if you can't check the ph then i agree u should flush the plants with water til the runoff is clear and see what happens...hope it helps...had a similar problem related to ph....i flushed randomly without checking the ph and things worsened...a ph meter is extremely helpful and in my opinion one of the most underated pieces of equipment one considers when growing

Flush the shit out of your mix.
Chicken manure is very 'hot' and VERY high in Nitrogen, explaining the very dark, almost bluish leaves with burned tips.
Also, peat moss is very acidic and you may see lockouts from that if you did not lime, but ATM your main problem is overfertilization... the fert you are using isn't properly balanced for cannabis, look up cannabis-specific ferts and try to find something that mimics them, or just buy one.

i originally started with tap water but the leaves started turning yellow so i started letting the water sit for 24 hours before i watered the plants. That wasn't helping so i figured it was a nutrient deficiency and added fert to the water. I'm gonna PH test the plants today and post the results. Also what exactly does "flushing" mean? is it just watering the shit out of the plants? And how do i take a ph test, should i add some soil to regular water and test it or should i test the runoff?

Test the runoff after letting it sit for 10-15 minutes

i checked the PH and it's a steady 7. What else could be the problem?

the plants look like they have nitrogen deficiency but i don't understand, i feed them nutrients and there's bird manure in the second half of the soil (the roots have reached that far).

Also, it may help to know that the plant's growth is stunted. i'm definitely overfertilizing but extra nutrients seem necessary since the stunted growth indicates a deficiency (i think). Can overfertilizing stunt the growth?

THERE IS NO NITROGEN DEF!!!
That's tox.
FLUSH.
Stunting is a symptom of overfert btw. And those burns are a dead giveaway. I already told you your leaves shoud not be that dark blue-green, but if you want to reinvent the wheel, that's fine, just read my sig. The first line of it. Sheesh.

pouyan for future reference a nitrogen deficiency will generally start at the bottom of the plant as the plants upper leaves are much more important to its survival and then move up the plant. A nitrogen deficiency turns the leaves a very pale green, then yellow, they don't brown and crisp over like yours have, it looks like someone has put a flame to it.

i know that's what a nitrogen deficiency looks like but if anything i have TOO much nitrogen, i wanna desoil the plants and put them in fresh potting soil without the bird manure. is this a bad idea?

Also, i haven't even been ferting the plants recently, it must all be the bird manure in the plants. I've been feeding them distilled tapwater without fert and the problems aren't fixing. the leaves are also pointing upwards like crazy

yes put your plant in the bath tub and run as much water through it as you can, let it sit and do it again. i had a problem last night, not that yellow but certainly the same thing. crispy brittle leaves, drooping? i made the fert 20-20-20 at the right strength a couple of days ago, but ignored how much to use in a pot, put more than twice the amount of fert water i needed. the plant was frying, this morning it was looking its same old self again. damn i need to get an ac adapter for my camera, i could show you the difference.
