whats your stance on stem cell research? did you know scientists can now synthesize their own line of stem cells? also did you know adults carry stem cells as opposed to infants? they are just degraded and not as productive as young ones.
they can also be found in the amniotic fluids of a mother or the umbilicle cord. i dunno...its just fascinating to me. stem cells could help in the race to find the cure for cancer. they are highly regenerative.

Unfortunately, that fucker Bush set America back years for him denying progress on stem cell research.

what angers me is that they are going to throw away embryos from in vitro clinics anyway. why not put them to good use?
stem cell research..your take?
^^ Exactly. It's absurd. Seems to me that letting that happen and letting the stem cell potential go to waste is the far less moral thing to do.
Stem cell research could bring us help for so many diseases: spinal cord injuries, diabetes, Parkinson's, arthiritis, stroke. The list goes on and on. We need that research to continue and be perfected.

i dunno what the fucking problem is...
it's not like we're growing embreyo's to disect and study... and the potential for it is outstanding... i mean, we're talking helping millions of people here, millions of people with diseases/problems that we've already spent years trying to find solutions to and can't....
anyone who is against it is a pure moron.... wtf is the reason for NOT doing it?
stem cell research..your take?
I'm all for it.
And it makes me angry that stem cell research, like global climate change, has been turned into a political issue.
Boooo.

I don't know! Even though I claim to know about everything about. (That's just rhuemattoids)
I am sitting on the fence on this one, to the credit of my slight indifference. I really don't know a great deal about it but on the face of it it sounds good.
I'm against ALL vivisection, but from what I heard its about growing bits of animals, as opposed to taking bits off animals. That's no worse than stepping on a thistle. Right?

Anything that is saving lives has got to be right FACT i think the other side of the argument is ultimately to do with human cloning and those sort of sinister overtones which seem to be associated with this sort of thing ( remember dolly the sheep ) but for me personally i'm all for it

hey i would like a way to clone organs or other things for people in need not to mention its benefits for science and hell even me!
stem cell research..your take?
philosophers and ethics majors are always ragging on this because of the human cloning issue. It underminds us as humans if we try to clone humans..its takes away from our being so 'unique' and such a great evolutionary species.
but we arent trying to do that with stem cells, we are nowhere near that area of stem cell application. rumors of chimeras and mice with human ears growing on their backs are powered by conservative polititians and evangelist christians defending this 'holy paradigm' that scientists are playing god when in reality they are looking for theraputic methods of use for victims of disease and ailment.
we arent trying to create a monster. this needs to be known. we arent making clones to do our chores for us, were just trying to help.

It Should Definitely be looked into,if nothing else.I'm not Convinced there is a Soul in that Petri Dish.Lets See if it will produce the results we want.

Stem cells, hell yes!!! Even teeth have them to generate new ones, not perfected, like all else! I have refused many surgery's for many years waiting for it! Since, Bush, setting myself up for surgery! :( think Bush was afraid they may have cloned him. Have enough shrubs in the world!

well i guess i will just add to the major consensus...
stem cell research holds so much positive potential that it is immoral (imo) to not pursue it...

I really don't see why each and every aborted foetus isn't sent to the lab rather than thrown into the garbage. I also have a sneeking supsicion that most folk against stemcell research don't suffer from debilitating conditions themselves. From what little research I've done, it looks like stem cells could be used to repair the damaged areas of my own spinal chord ("cord"?) as well. I'd gladly clone the cells of a non-conscious being, or harvest ones that are already going to the trash, if it means actually regaining some quallity of life again.
A friend I had used to debate me on the matter of stem cells from embryos, saying that "the potential for life is there, so you're taking someone's life away". But the way I see it, if you clone the cells yourself for the stemcells, then that means they never would have existed were it not for the science, and the "potential" never existed in the first place. I don't consider potential to mean "it can become life", I consider to mean "this was well on the way to becoming a human being". But we never could come to an agreement on that, and really it's such a moral issue, as opposed to an empiracle/utilitarian one, that I don't think you can really prove your side no matter what you say.
Besides, isn't every man that masturbates committing genocide? My God, I'm worse than Stalin and Hitler combined! ;)
Seriously though, I feel that people arbitarily draw the line of where "potential" exists. A fertilized egg is said to have potential for life because it can grow into a human being, given the opportunity. But situationally, the potential was never there. Likewise, you might as well extend that to sperm which has the potential to fertilize an egg.
In my view, a human being exists when there is some spark of consciousness, or even just brainwaves. Not that I'd call 1st or second trimester abortion something to be done lightly, but I believe a person is not a cluster of cells, they're an individual with their own thoughts, feelings, containing that first spark (or many billions) of neuronal energy that is ready to absorb information and expand. Then you get religion, neuro-science, and general ethical debate coming in and confusing the hell out of the issue! It's all very subjective I suppose.
Anywhooo.... Suffering = Bad
Cures = Good

throwing away aborted or dead fetuses is wrong.
Take a Native American approach: EVERYTHING MUST BE USED, NOTHING DISCARDED.
Take a scientific approach: POTENTIAL LEARNING RESOURCES.
Take a religious approach: GOD MADE EVERYTHING TO BE USED.
Take a medical approach: SAVE LIVES.
All i have to ask is WHAT is the PROBLEM with cloning organs, HELL why not even whole people, what's wrong with that?!?
We KILL PEOPLE IN WARS ALL THE TIME and yet CLONING is wrong?!?
OH of course, artificially creating life is a no no, but artificially TAKING a life is OK as long as it's for war, next thing you know, we'll be cloning our soldiers! >.<
i doubt anything useful (other than war, which is useless unto itself) can come of cloning whole people, but if it can save lives, why not research stem cells?
who knows, maybe they will prove useless in cloning anyways?

Stoner Shadow Wolf makes a good point here. But I don't see why we'd ever clone people, I think we'd just mess with the genetics of a foetus already in development. Now that is a scary thought; but on the other hand, I'm sure there's a lot of people with horrible illnesses that would have gladly been genetically altered if it meant never getting that illness in the first place.
Some people are vigilantly against cloning human organs, and that one just baffles me. Could you imagine; no more donors, no more "can we find a doner", just clone one up and stock every hospital to the nuts! No offense intended to anybody here, but some folk have a real knee-jerk reaction to things and think no further than "human cloning! Against how God made us!".

I am pretty cool with whatever science can dish up. God is in control. That doesn't mean he likes what Mankind is doing but it happens.
I feel the same about abortions, Im pro choice if anything. A woman's body is her own f*cking business.
Its between her or her and god..
Again Mankind is responsible for its actions, right or wrong.
Its how the Gifts of Science are used and the power to change peoples life's is not abused.. and always to remain humble..
