Jake's Bunches O' Beans Grow Log
The NL which showed male a short time ago has been replanted beside the OS, CRH, and BBL. Any of those crosses would be nice, especially since all 4 plants are really good-lookin' (and, hopin' the CRH and BBL are female!). At the very least, I'll be happy to carry on the OS (1 bean left) in an NL cross. Back to the NL already in progress - he really came back from having some attention in a container; it looks like he's been on steroids, but he just enjoyed some Schultz 10-15-10 and Superthrive - both according to the outdoor container directions.
1 Lemon Skunk is still in the ground, and I just replanted the 2nd and smaller of the 2 in a container to give her some special attention. She's gotten some soil additive with mycorrhizae which should be interesting; she'll need stronger root development since she hadn't stretched her legs much while she was in ground. She's also getting some fish emulsion 5-1-1. I'm banking on her being a she since she is feminized (some serious female references hoping that if you believe in it it will be).
The other LS is still dwarfed due to bad spot around the SSH which is suffering about the same fate. We can't all have a day in the Sun. I'll try hard to circulate them back to container and a better location.
Pics 1-2 show the NL; he's a stocky lil' dude
Pics 3 and 4 show the newly re-potted LS
Pic 5 shows the LS still in ground
I'll try to make sure the SSH makes it into the next round of pics. I think it will have to make it back to a container for better care. I still have a few SSH beans though, so unfortunately it may not get as much care this season.
That should wrap 'er up. I hope all of y'all are doing and being good out there!

30 Rock is a pretty dang good show, and there's 1 comment that Tina Fey often makes (as uttered by her young daughter) that for some reason makes me laugh - "I want to go to there!" But, dang if it isn't the perfect comment to make to your reply. What you been smokin', amigo?
I'm lookin' forward to some nice variety for a change - the Summer has brought me close to the end of last season's yield.

I had no doubt that you pay it forward, my friend! WW is a wicked woman whose presence I have not yet shared. But, oh yes - 1 day she will be mine, if only for a brief time. I'm leavin' it with you, DP - I hope you have a great night and days to come.

Jake, Oh those tomato caterpillar are major PITAS! At least they are easy to kill. A trick I do to prep soil where I might plant in the ground is after I chop I take the soil from the pots and dump them in the area and then let nature do its thing over the winter and come spring any nutes left over in the soil has washed into the ground. I just harvested some of my AF's and have another load on the clothes line.

bickey, thanks for stopping by - the SSH is a sweet smoke; unfortunately, mine got the shaft when it came to "product placement." It doesn't get much sunshine, but my locations are pretty limited. My Bubblelicious is definitely male, so I'll probably cut it, and will most likely throw the SSH in its spot, so your rooting for the underdog may help her out! I'll throw up some pics of the SSH in a second. Be good out there!

luna, you are right from top to bottom - that nasty lil' caterpillar tried to get at me with his/her choppers and stinger (probably all for show, but I wasn't in the mood to get stung/bitten by yet another insect; if there is a stinging insect anywhere around, most likely it's going to nail me!), but it was such an interesting lil' dude that I put it on a sapling tree that's sprung up. I've started doing pretty much the same thing with used soil - I have a nice dumpin' ground where I put it along with any veggies that don't make it. I'll start using it to mix into the native soil to help out some; I have just been using my potting mix straight in the hole; my bad locations are primarily lacking in sunlight. I was happy to see your recent harvests! Take good care out there, and stay high!

Jake's Bunches O' Beans Grow Log
SSH is really making a pretty strong comeback from the Neem Oil fiasco that dang near killed it early in its vegetative stage. Despite the lack of sufficient sunlight, it's really beginning to reach for the sky. It will probably be getting a better location in the next week or so, when I finally chop my Bubblelicious male who recently confirmed early suspicions.
Good news - both Sour Cream are ladies!
So, we now have:
NL - male
Old School - BBW (big beautiful woman)
Colombian Red Haze (looks to be female)
Sour Cream (2) (both female)
Lemon Skunk (2) (feminized, so should be fems)
SSH (undetermined)
The NL is in-ground close to the OS and CRH (and, probably where I will put the SSH), so I'm looking forward to some nice beans. My sinsemilla will come from the SCs!
Y'all be good out there!

I just pulled SSH and got some SSH x Blueberry beans (had 21, found 14 more). Like you, I have a bubblegum male but I'll be pollinating a blueberry and two Z10 females with it.
Good Luck, Big Buck!

The SSH was snapped at its base by some roving paws, so unfortunately there will be no NL x SSH beans for me. SSH was a definite fem too - what a shame. But, I do love my pups and they did not mean any harm. Such is life - we win some and we lose some so that our victories are all the more enjoyable. Thanks for stopping in, greenatik - it's always a pleasure to see you. I apologize for my long absence, and I hope all's been and will continue to be well with you and yours, my friend!

Yeah, killa - don't rub it in so much; as you read above my SSH is gone but not forgotten. I've still got a few SSH beans, so if and when I develop an indoor system, they will get a new whorl. If no indoor, then they'll spring to life in Spring, 2010. Your zip prices are mo betta than here; I'd be lookin' at $480 per zip - INSANE! See why I grow now, eh? I've got to get back up to speed with you, my friend - I miss all of incredible plant pictures and your generosity. Be good over there!

McT! Man, as with greenatik and killa, I've gotta catch up with you, my friend! It's been way too long since last I really browsed this great board; I didn't realize how much I missed it until searching Google led me back here. This board is truly filled with incredible knowledge and experiences! I hope you have been having a great experience in your latest grow!

Thanks for the compliments, blunt - I started out with a bunch o' beans for sure, but they've been whittled down. I've recently added a few interesting hybrids - HTC Sunshine #2 (due to its Deep Chunk genes), SSH x WW, and KaliMist x Romulan. They're only in their first week of veg, so will only enjoy about 1 month before hitting flower. I'm interested to see how well they perform. I started a grow late last year, but this year I've started these beans even later. I think they'll make it; last year my Colombian Red Haze didn't finish until around Christmas, but she made it just fine!

Shov, you've always got an incredible garden, so I appreciate your stoppin' by to check on my lil' spot. I need to check out your SSH - sadly mine didn't make it, and she was making such a sweet recovery. SSH x Blueberry? Dude, that should be a very sweet mix! I've heard about your Z10 before, but you'll have to fill me in on its genetics - adding some Bubblegum to the mix sounds pretty darn interesting! May the sun continue to shine on you and your garden, my friend!
I'll add a few new pics in the next post to bring everyone up to speed a bit on the remaining plants in my garden. Lemon Skunks, Sour Cream, Old School, and Colombian Red Haze. My new starters (Sunshine #2, WW x SSH, and KaliMist x Romulan) are all too small at this point to really show, but I'll probably throw a pic or 2 in just for giggles.
I hope all's well with everyone!

It's been awhile since I updated - no real excuse there. I did have to break down and buy a new camera, so you'll have to bear with me while I learn to use this darn thing; too many features - I may have to get my son to show me how to use it! Am I that old now? Some days I sure feel like it.
Here's a bit of eye candy for everyone. The ladies began flowering a lil' over 1 week ago, so there should be some fun stuff to see in another week or so. For now, you'll have to use a lil' imagination.
1st Pic = Lemon Skunk rescued first - has made a SWEET recovery - sunshine will truly work wonders, won't it?
2d Pic = Sour Cream with Sunshine #2 in Silo cup beside for comparison reference; I fugged up a bit and tried to bend LST her when she was a lil' too dry, so her stems split a bit; we'll see if a lil' smoker engineering will get the job done to keep those branches alive and kickin'.
3rd Pic = Lemon Skunk rescued from bad spot about 2 weeks ago; she's really come a long way, and should look like LS1 in another week.
4th Pic = Old School; I grew this strain out last year from some bagseed that was spot on resembling some of the best stuff I used to smoke in high school (thus it's name). I'll post a pic or 2 of her swollen calyxes, pregnant with some sweet NL pollen.
5th Pic = Colombian Red Haze, butchered in 1/2 to keep her from growing taller than fence; she's still around 3 1/2 feet, but now her branches will be sturdy enough to support her buds - hopefully. She's got a ton of new growth already since this pic was taken.
-
Jake's Bunches O' Beans Grow Log
Pic 1 shows OS' swollen calyxes. I can't wait to try the OS x NL.
Pic 2 shows beginning buds on LS1.
Pic 3 shows the newbies - Sunshine #2 is in the Silo cup; from left to right are KaliMist x Romulan and WW x SSH.
As for the fates of the beans not listed above - The Bubblelicious I grew out were male, and I threw them out in favor of the NL male. The PPP went to a friend along with the SSH. I kept 1 SSH, but as you read above, my pups got the better of her.
Never to fear though, I have more beans on the way - I really do need to go indoor, so I can grow year 'round. I think the last batch o' beans that are shown in Pic 3 will be my last batch this year.
Good luck to everyone out there, and continued joy and success in your own grows!

Man, you have more going on that ten growers, Elvis. I know I have a difficult time doing taste tests and strain reviews of my herb. You must be overwhelmed. I for go serious smoke reports until the herb is properly cured, which seems to continue for a couple of months. By that time I'm looking forward to a new harvest and new strain tastes. Have you considered doing a thread of just your strain reviews sometime?
Anyhow, keep up the fine gardening.

Jake, So how many plants did you end up with this grow? I always have trouble calculating how many plants I need to grow each grow to maintain a steady supply. I'm glad to see you have some seedlings starting so late in the year when I harvested the sour bubble which I did a seed run with dropped a few beans that germ'd themselves so I have 8 new surprise seedlings. When does your lat drop to the 12/12? I've got to the last of Sept so hopefully they have enough veg time to produce something. I love growing year around myself I can't wait to start my inside autos next month.

Shov, I have the same feeling when I jump into someone else's thread - how in the heck do they keep up with all of these strains? Mine really aren't too bad to keep up with. I start them out in labeled Silo cups, and when I first transplant them I keep the strains together until I can distinguish them. Right now I really only have Lemon Skunk and Sour Cream going. Back in a nature area I have Colombian Red Haze and Old School. All of these are visually distinctive, and I could tell the Lemon Skunk apart from the others just by their excessive odor - really skunky even now when they've only been flowering for about 2 weeks.
As for strain reviews - that's a really good idea! I don't know that I have a very detailed sense of smell and/or taste, but I could give some general impressions and overall grow report. But, at this point I only have experience with about 5 strains - some of the others either didn't make it or were gifted. I do need to branch out a bit from just a grow log.
My friend, it's always a pleasure to see you around. I hope all is well and easy with you and yours!

Luna, it's been too long. I see you online at ic from time to time - I should drop you a pm. It looks like I'll wind up with 1 Colombian Red Haze, 1 Old School (seeded by NL), 2 Lemon Skunk, 1 Sour Cream and my newbies (3 SSH x WW, 1 Sunshine #2, and 2 Kali Mist x Romulan). We'll see how the newbies do. The Sunshine #2 and 1 each of SSH x WW and KM x Romulan are really growing well, so I hope to have even a 1/4 oz from each. 12/12 I think is the same all over - around September 23rd - from what I remember. And, we keep decent light here dropping to around 9 hours of daylight in late December - temperature is pretty moderate until January/February.
I hope to have enough to make it through the year. I've really been contemplating an indoor grow cab - seems like I wanted one really badly last year about this time, considering outdoor is coming to an end. Indoor sure would be interesting.
Take good care out there, my friend! I hope all is well with you and your family!

LMMFAO! My petition has been submitted, and I've been granted leave to solicit bids - I think. I was not shot down completely, except on the location of the indoor. It will have to be located in the attic, which in all actuality would be easier with the exception of me climbing up there every dang day!
My bro and I, more so my bro than I, should be able to knock it out, but he will have the cost knowledge. Depending on our finances and my bro's availability, I could have something in place in a couple of months, which depending on when my outdoor strains finish up could be perfect timing.
DP, you really had me laughing on this one!
-

jake if you automate your waterings for the indoors you won't have to climb up there every day ! I just hooked mine all up and WOW was it easy. but you'd have to haul up a lot of water once a week as well..
nice outdoors buddy, they are sure soakin up those sun lumens. the crosses sure sound interesting as well! cant wait to go see my outdoor babies its been almost 2 months. I hope somethin is still there :D

Jake, Yeah summers are always so busy things are finally slowing down again. I have been stressing on the indoor growroom too but the place inside that I could build one would be in a closet and I never liked that idea. So I built a kind of grow room/greenhouse on our deck. Since our winters are really pretty mild I think we may get 10 day's worth of below freezing and they are well spaced out the cfls should keep it warm enough and if not I can use a small ceramic heater so I am all set to grow year round! I am going to grow a/fs only during the winter. The automatic watering system sounds cool but if it ever leaks there will be hell to pay.

JAKE!
I was reading through my first grow log (on my 4th now) and saw a really funny post that you authored.
"I envy you the time you will spend using your mason jars full of incredibud as goggles while you hopelessly try to focus on your TV after becoming interested in the monkey sounds from the Discovery Channel."
I think now the same applies to you. I envy you sir, and Lemon Skunk is great I had that last grow. Does it smell like pinesol for you?
