I think what we are dealing with is a lack of sunlight. I really think that's what is causing your problems. Lumens are the scientific term for light out put since many of us don't use the sun, we need a way of talking about how much sun we have in our grow space, without there being a sun. Make sense? U can start with this to learn more wiki lumens Bottom line is that there is a minimum necessary for a plant to survive and then another level necessary to thrive. Ur plant doesn't appear to be thriving at the moment and in my mind that's due to lack of proper sunlight or lumens.

So what does a person do about such a thing? Depends on ur situation and space. If you want the natural approach then move your plants outside. If you want a more efficient method move them further indoors and start creating a happy space with ventilation and proper lighting. In the mean time, hows about cleaning ur windows or possibly even opening them if you don't think your getting enough light coming in due to the windows filtering it. A light meter would tell you exactly how much light the plant was getting. I do not know off hand what the minimum necessary is for proper plant growth and fruiting, but most people would think 5k lumens per plant would be about the minimum you could get away with. For reference I veg my plants for about 4 weeks under 25k lumens and then flower for 8 weeks under 60k lumens. This across a 2x3' table.

I suppose you could add in more light to supplement the sunlight possibly. Not sure how that would play out though. You would want to keep the artificial lights on the same schedule as the window I would think. Never tried growing mj on a windowsill before. A green house lets in much more sunlight then I think your patio is. I could be wrong, but a light meter will show you for sure. Was this any more helpful then my last post? lol :P

It occurs to me that if your plant is by the windowsill then for how many hours each day is it really getting light? I can see on that second pic that the sun is coming in fine, but at 12:00 what happens? I bet after a few hours no more direct sunlight is coming in your window which means your really only giving your plant about 3 or 4 hours of light each day. Can you put it outside where it can obtain more direct sunlight for a longer period in the day? If even for only 6 hours each day, if it were direct sunlight and could then continue to get indirect light for a further 6 or 8 hours you would be right where you need them to be. I don't think 18 hours of direct sunlight is necessary but certainly half of that should be direct and half indirect as in some shade as the sun passes along in the sky. I'm talked out. Any of this sitting well with you?

The Milwaukee Ph pen digital tester is about $20 on ePay and is considered a respectable quality meter. Here's a few sticky threads on Ph:

You could save the money and just do the following "Old fasioned Ph test" although in old fashioned times 40 years old was a human life expectancy to die of "old age".... Maybe that's becaue they were eating dirt? Who am I do judge, I have to taste my cat litter to see if it's dirty. See ya!

yeah ill try cleaning the window but it starts getting direct sunlight at 12 then that stays untill about 7 also the problem might be that im not turning it.the sun starts coming in horizontal as the day goes by.last time i put my plant outside alotta the leaves burnt cause the soil dried out but that was back in veg. thats one reason i cut fan leaves. btw the fuzz wont be able to find someone by a picture.weather they new what city i lived in or not. its decriminalized where i live and its up to 7 plants to be illegal or an ounce of weed.and i never got a mugshot yet so they cant look it up in there computer. oh and do u think if i just put some nice topsoil over the old soil with the good nutrients in the new topsoil will the nutrient sink into the old soil? and the windows are soo old they dont open.
also im thinking about switching the sunliight into blue ray flurecent. its not the same as normal florecent. i dont like florecent because it makes the stem grow too fast and its not good for flowering. but at the fish store u can buy different spectrum florecent. do u no if that would work. and if thats not a good light to use what do u prefer that wont get too hot..also imma needa save up for a week to buy the equipment. i apreciate the help tho. and i no how some windows block precious rays from the sunlight. but im pretty sure old windows dont block the good rays. i remember my aunt couldnt grow spider plants because she had this type of window that blocked out the ray to make the plant photosynthesize. ill work on getting a better pic of the grow room.

Ur probably right on the pics. I doubt anyone is gonna come get yea. I just had to listen to my friend for the past 2 hours go on about how we need code words and need to stop texting, chatting and emailing each other. Phone calls are ok as long as we use code words, but we still don't have that worked out. Ok well, nice fucking knowing you I guess as it seems the only time we can communicate about our partnership is over Thanksgiving dinner and even then behind the shed. Some people are just a bit too paranoid I guess.

Um so ya I don't know what blue florescence are but my guess is that your talking about a fish tank bulb. There is lots to know about growing pot with floro's, much more then I care to get into. Bottom line is that you are on the right track with this line of thinking now that you realize that your window aint gonna cut it. Stick with T5 HO bulbs or you will be right back here again in a month wondering why the floros arent working and complaining someone gave you bad advice and you want your window back. T5 HO's are only starting to catch hold so make sure you get T5 HO's and not their little brother T5. They put out twice the lumens as the regular T5's and gobs more then any other type bulbs such as T8 or T12 from Home Depot. All you need are two numbers: 6,000k bulbs for vegetative growth and 3000k spectrum bulbs for flowering. Check into a hydroshop, ebay or a local custom electrical lighting house for the T5 Ho's. You can piecemeal one together for way under 50 bucks for what I am describing to you.

I would suggest you hang several bulbs in a vertical fashion around the plant. Let the plant grow length wise along the bulb...it works very very well and you could do this with maybe 3 x 3 foot bulbs. There is something called power compact or pc bulbs which are really good at hanging vertically. The wires attach only on one end instead of both which means you would need to run wires the length of the plant to go this route...not a big deal just something to consider. The pc bulbs put out nearly the same amount as T5ho's.

Let's talk soil. No you can not put new soil on top of old. At this point I would probably recommend you go ahead and repot it anyway. I forget what size pot you have mow, but I don't recall it being all that big anyway. Let's get you into a 5 gallon bucket at this point. Drill a few holes down into the bottom of a bucket and line it with some rocks about 2 inches deep. Then go get some of that fancy soil you were talking about and while your there check into something called perlite perlite. If you have a hydroponics supply house in your town (google it) then maybe your better option would be with coco coc. Either way which ever product you end up mix it in with your soil at about a half and half ratio. This add-in product, either the coco or the perlite will allow you to go longer periods without watering. In fact, when you add in either of these substances, be sure and not over water as that will likely become your easier threat at this point. About every 3 days aught to be enough even outside in the heat, but it will certainly last the day or longer. I use coco and soil for outdoor basil and herbs for my wife and it's way over 105 and still I water every 3 days and the plants are as green as anything grown inside.

Throw out the old soil as there aren't likely any nutrients left in that soil anyway. When your done growing this plant, throw that soil out too. Soil gets used up after a few months, usually 3 at most is all you can let a plant live for in soil. After that you need to start thinking about adding nutrients and additives that are being removed from the soil. You can get into that shit down the road hommie, for now stick with miracle grow but definitely add a filler in and mix it up good. Be careful with your old plant, but slide the sucker out and put it in its new home. Break up as best you can the root ball and remove the easiest to remove dirt. Then spread out the roots and start adding soil into the bucket. Most soil growers end up doing this twice during their life cycle. A starter cup, a 1 gallon vegging pot and then a 3 or 5 gallon flowering pot, all within 3 months.

And at this point you need to start doing your home work. Your not going to get too much more out of us as there really are better sources then I for growing in soil or growing in general. Good luck champ, your on the right track with the discovers made in this thread.

iight thanks dude u helped me alot. haha but i cant be spending what little money i make on that....haha ill be having a few outdoor once next year. i hear there so much easier to maintain.
