When you evaluate the American system, you need to compare it to what went before in history and to what it's like in the rest of the world. Our freedoms and opportunities here now in the US are far better than in most of history and better than in most of the rest of the world. It's certainly not perfect, but it compares well to what has been accomplished in other places and other times. If you ever don't appreciate what you have here, talk to someone who came here from somewhere else --- that has always been an eye-opener for me.
The only "slavery" I ever feel in my life is the need to spend more time working than I like to make ends meet and sometimes having to do work I don't really enjoy --- the idea of the wage slave. The real problem there is the mental slavery of consumerism, but you can always opt out of that system if you want to. If you choose to cut back on the material goods that you need from society, you can cut your expenses so much that your time can be pretty much your own.
Like I was explaining earlier there are different forms of slavery. We are slaves to a system that relies on our wages to support their spending habits. The Federal Government believes that our wages are 100% theirs and that they are being nice when they forcefully take a certain percentage. I have no say as to where my tax dollars go which I think is insane since it is my money! We also have inflation which is killing our economy and in turn making us work harder and longer hours just to put food on the table. We should not be punished because they're unable to balance a budget. There is a simple answer to all our financial problems and that is to CUT spending. Our Government has become too big and we are supporting their growth. I say cut the spending, and the lies and give the country back to the people who make it what it is today.

That is a very loose definition of slavery. A true slave might find it a sort of ridiculous idea that you consider yourself a slave just because you pay taxes, considering the amount of freedom and opportunity you have and the fact that you even have money to tax.

I don't really believe the government rejoices in their ability to tax, and I don't think they consider your money to be all theirs. All governments have expenses and need to impose some form of taxes --- it's another thing you can compare to history and to other places around the world. You do have a say in how your tax money is spent --- you don't get to draw up the budget yourself, but you do elect your representatives. If you don't like what they are doing, you can work to change your representative. That's one thing you can do that a slave cannot.

Now you are into a policy debate. Slaves do not get to debate policy. If you do not like the policies of your government and how they spend money, you need to elect a different representative.
If you really believe you are some kind of slave in this society, then you have enslaved yourself with your victim mentailty.

No it is not a very loose definition of slavery.
slav·er·y (slā'və-rē, slāv'rē) Pronunciation Key
n. pl. slav·er·ies 4. A condition of hard work and subjection: wage slavery.
Like I said there are many forms of slavery. Most people are used to thinking of a stereotypical slave. The kind of slave we are taught about in school. Anytime our wages are forcefully taken it is a form of slavery. I work hard for my money, so I believe I should keep it. We escaped over taxation before, and now we are heading down the same road once again. If you think things will get better in the future then I have some bad news for you..It's not! Until we can find a way to cut spending there will be no reduce in taxation ever. It will just increase more and more. Which in turn makes you a slave to an economic system.

Once again you are thinking of the stereotypical slave. If the Government is so concerned about lowering taxes for us then why do I keep paying more and more money each year? Let alone have to try and budget for the inflation of everything. Why do we have inflation if our so called economy is so strong?

This will not ever work until we can take this country back from the Federal Government. It hasn't worked like this since I have been alive, and it hasn't worked while my father has been alive. The system is flawed and needs to be fixed. Our representatives no longer represent the people of their state. They choose corporations before the people who pay their salaries.

Again you make it sound like I can just choose who is elected and who isn't.

No I have not enslaved myself with a victim mentality. More like my eyes have been opened to a system that is run by extortion and over taxation. A system that keeps the middle and poor class down from taxation and inflation. A welfare state that depends on my hard work to support handouts. Honestly this issue is too big to try and discuss in here.

I read a report recently that slavery has never been as widespread in the history of the world as it is now.

i skipped the last few statements , sorry. some of the control are a deffinate worry, but as said "nobody is banging on my door" and it will stay that way. as far as other freedoms we want/need they arent in the near future anyways, so keep living. i am also not sure the bushes should be diplomats fixing the errors of their ways. hillary said something that freeked me out the other night, "we (the usa) are the best nation on the earth" that was a little unsetteling for some one who wants to make peace. cant really say yet as i avoid pollitics with a passion but something has to give and you cant judge someone on just one statement.

Are freedoms and rights to take care of our families are slowly being taken away.
