Fucking hell... "hippy bullshit." You are so ignorant.
These people are trying to help you. You are saying you don't believe in global warming, despite the fact that it is obviously happening. Even if you don't believe scientists, if you have a basic knowledge of physics or chemistry you will know that global warming is obviously happening. Is the lack of snow, mild winters, melting ice caps and increased flooding and storms not proof enough? What would be proof? When it kills you and half of the human race, plus a few billion other species? This isn't gambling money, possessions, even your life... This is gambling the entire planet and all the life on it. Just for a slightly easier life and a better economy. This is just the kind of selfishness that is present throughout the human race, and it is the kind of attitude that will ultimately destroy the human race.
I'm ignorant? Please direct me to some sources which explain in basic chemical or physical terms how we are directly responsible for 'global warming'. Unfortunately, the 'lack of snow, mild winters, melting ice caps and increased flooding and storms' do not constitute evidence of man causing global warming through CO2 emissions, merely that the climate is changing. As it always has done.
the climate shouldnt change dramatically in a lifetime.
i think that was an intelligent post kombucha :)
im just waiting for next year's hurricane season...i used to live on the gulf coast ya know..its so beautiful..white sand beaches, subtropical jungle...palm trees...but um..also intensifying monster hurricanes. no thanks! i fear that soon the topic wont be open for debate...we'll just be debating the severity(sp?) of the situation..
too bad about those polar bears.... on the other hand its kind of cool having warmer winters....hey it probably helps our marijuana grow :)
Why shouldn't it? Has the climate always been in stasis? I think that there's just not sufficient evidence either way to draw a conclusion, but personally i think human's economic growth can't yet be blamed.
It's total hypocrisy to complain about anything to do with the environment, the government, or large corporations while commuting with an internal combustion engine vehicle. Each and every person can be a part of the sollution... and not part of the polution! Get out of your cars and start riding a bicycle. You'll save money and you'll be much healthier. STOP DRIVING!!!!!!

Human influence at least doubled the risk of last year's Europe-wide heatwave. That is the conclusion of leading scientists who say they are more than 90% sure of the fact. The research, published in Nature magazine, is a significant milestone on the road to establishing liability for climate change damage.
It boosts the argument that greenhouse gas emissions have increased temperatures both globally and regionally, and it brings nearer the day when courts will be asked to decide where liability lies.
This "detection and attribution science", as it is known, lies behind the many efforts of lawyers and campaigners around the world to enforce the law to combat the causes and impacts of climate change.
In 2001, the world's scientists said that globally, most of the warming was due to human activities. Since then, at least three peer-reviewed papers have revealed human influence on regional temperatures; human influence, found for the first time, on a climate variable other than temperature - sea-level pressure; and now "the first successful attempt to detect man-made influence on a specific extreme climatic event", according to Christoph Schär, at the Institute for Atmospheric and Climate Science in Zurich, and Gerd Jendritzky, of the German Weather Service.
The courts have already responded positively to these findings. The legal relevance of climate change has now been accepted by US and Australian judges in cases where decisions leading to more coal mining and electricity transmission were found to be illegal. And a Californian appeals judge has rejected the idea that "injury to all is injury to none" where "global environmental impact is threatened by a federal statutory wrong".

Unfortunately that link's broken but I'll do my best Herbaholic! "detection and attribution science"? Sounds like another name for retrospective science to me, which is weak science. Scientists have to PROVE cause and effect, not just give evidence which supports arguments. As for the lawyers and campaigners (journalists too), they all have their own agendas and are free to pick and choose the science which best represents their needs. Don't believe everything you read in the paper. Schär specialises in regional climatic change, not global, so maybe he's not the best source. I'm sure the legal profession is over the moon about "legal relevance of climate change". I'm sure they can't wait to line their pockets with the myriad lawsuits they'll be able to bring...But maybe I'm just being cynical.
Evidence - how about the fact that recently may places in the world have had the hottest summer/day on record recently, and some of the worst storms on record recently. The planet is big, things do not happen that quickly on their own. Think about it. Even if there is a 1% risk of global warming being real, it isn't worth risking it. I always thought stoners would be reasonable people, I've seen a lot of very narrow minded and selfish people on these forums (fortunately a lot of nice people too.) It's not nice to think that humans are so greedy they will risk the entire planet for the sake of a slightly easier life or more money. In the past few years my opinion of humanity has greatly changed, I used to see humans as a lot of good people with a few bad people mixed in, now I've realised that they are a lot of selfish, jealous and greedy individuals who will only give if it benefits them or it benefits someone close, who will be utter bastards if they can do it anonymously, with just a few good people mixed in who actually give a damn.
I see what yall mean...its the first day of winter here in Texas and its 65 degrees F...ohhh wait..its always like that...
