do you need a compassionate mmj doctor for your chronic pain?
Hi my Name is Dean and i am looking for a doctor in my area who will prescribe Medical Marijuana for me.
I have suffered with chronic back pain for 20yrs due to 3 collapsed disc in my lower back, I have Been to physical therapy and taken vicodin for 15yrs at different dosages, until recently the pain had increased and my Dr changed my meds to morphine. I have all the latest MRI and Xrays
I went to see an orthopedic surgeon about this and he said that he did not want to operate because there was too much work to be done in there, and he said that if he were to fuse them it would put undue stress on the good disc and wear them out sooner. he them recommended i find a way to lose the excess weight i was carrying so i went to a laproscopic surgeon.
2 years ago i had a gastric bypass performed for weight loss and all has been fine except for the pain remains in my back and now because of the operation i have a rough time eating because i feel nauseous all the time, my doctor tried some medicine to help but it don't work well, i discovered that when i smoke marijuana that my appetite comes back and i can enjoy eating.
I asked my Dr about prescribing Medical Marijuana and she said she agrees that i would do well with that as an alternative to all the harmful medications but she does not have the certification to prescribe it and told me to try and find a doctor in the area that she could confer with.
all help would be appreciated.

The best chance to get a recommendation is through your neurologist, as they are able to submit a recommendation for the program. Others who can are pain specialists, some psychaitrists who are treating you for problems related to your condition. A good doctor does not charge a patient for a recommendation. Those who do are exploiting the program and making money from it and that's wrong.
If you bring up the use of mmj as an adjunct to therapy and discuss the ups and downs of it with your doctor, it's likely you will get your card.
The challenge after getting your card is finding a caregiver. We once had a website that connected patients with carregivers but the site was shut down. That's a shame.
the more we can spread the word about this site, we may come up with a better way to connect with each other.

Forget getting your everyday DR to write these, IT wont happen with out alot of time begging and pleading.Dont waste your time just pay for it...by the time you get him to write it you could have the card in hand. And not to mention some people have to pay for each Dr visit. So whats the difference.

I don't believe that a patient in legitimate need of the mmp should ever pay a doctor to get into this program. It's hard enough, once in the program, to find a quality caregiver who will provide patients with quality medicine that isn't priced at street value or is low cost for a person with a limited income. Good caregivers are out there. There is no good way at the moment to network between patients and caregivers, leaving those unable to grow their own-a very tedious project, without a way to find a caregiver or acquire medicine safely.
As for myself, I had no issue with my doctor's recommendation-and did not have to pay him off for it. That's my two cents.
