Down side?
They need room! the leaves are sharply pointed and they can grow quite large. I've seen them 5' wide.
They also take about 2 years to fruit.
It's a long term commitment. Do a pre-nup.:D

for okra you need to make sure you have a strain that is tender and tasty...there are tough stringy strains which are horrible, but i do enjoy a plate of deep-fried okra with some ranch to dip it in :)
i'm thinking about starting a little secondary herb garden within my herb garden, just some basil and thyme but should make the grow room smell nice :D
