Growing Other Veggies Along side
Hey, I don't want to break any rules, I hope that I am not. I just wanted some of your quick 2 cents on growing other veggies, tomatoes, squash, whatever!
My question is, what are some that are easy to grow along side, w/ similar basice soil indoor setup.
I would like a whole bunch of fried green tomatoes. I guess, do other plants generally bloom like lowryder, or do they depend on photoperiod? Hmmm? See what I am getting at here? Help please! Love to hear see some of your experiences with other yummy foods.
Tips and advice appreciated.:jointsmile:8182KSKUSH Reviewed by 8182KSKUSH on . Growing Other Veggies Along side Hey, I don't want to break any rules, I hope that I am not. Just started 2 more heritage tomatoes in 24 Gal, rubbermaid tubs.
Be happy to bore you with baby pictures if you so much as blink.
Started doing this because Tomato seeds are cheap.
Once I can grow the best tomatoes on the planet, I'll apply those skills to da herb.
That DWC Tom. bush is now over 7' tall with more than 100 fruits.

I'm all ears! Bore away!
How does it work with tomatoes? I am a soil guy myself, but as far as flowering requirements, light sched requirements? PH requirements? For soil and for feeding? How can I get a good batch of tomatoes?

Hmmm, I have several different varieties of poppy seed, might be interesting to see if they'll grow indoors.

I still use dirt,
for geraniums.
Started futzing with Tomatoes a long while back.
They grow jus' fine in the ground, but to grow a decent tomato crop in containers requires huge containers.
A big vine can transpire 2 gallons of water per day. Enough soil to host that much water can be difficult to deal with.
Makes 'em a perfect candidate for large DWC setups though.
The PH and nutes are easy to deal with in a 24 gallon tub, but I did have to move them outside for enough light.
(LEDs are being put to better use.)
My next experiment will use 55 Gallon tubs.
Basically, I'm eliminating limits.
Plants need;
air/co2
h2o
PAR light
Nutes
and some TLC

[attachment=o210135]

They all interact, and any one factors limits, become the whole plant's limits.
Once I'm confident there are no other bottlenecks, I can tweak the light for power, spectra, and TIMING and have meaningful results.
Growing cannabis under dichroic LEDs the exact same way as one grows under HPS is, IMO, folly!
A waste of the potential for full control.
Watt for Watt, I'm sure I can grow better than HPS now!
Not good enough!
I'm aiming higher.
Once I can get a better yeild from DWC/LED indoors,
than I can get from volcanic soil and tropical sun outdoors, I'll call myself a good gardener.
So, what are you growing?

I am thinking about doing some kind of variety of tomatoes, and some green onions.
I really want the "fried green tomatoes" but I don't know which variety they are? ANy ideas? Cherry toms as well, and maybe anything else I get my hands on. I just started reading a lil, and it looks like they just flower on their own? Am I getting good info so far?
Basically I just want to be able to grow my own munchies!
ANy other suggestions on very tasty veggies that can happen in an indoor soil garden setup?
Oh yeah, I am going to come out there and move in weez! Looks like you have a little piece of heaven out there!

Plant Beefsteaks.
Early girls are good for short growing seasons outdoors.
For flavor, try "Centennial" and "Yellow Perfection".
And yes, you have good info.
Photoperiodicity is not a big deal with Toms.
More important, they are self-fertilizing!
When they get about half as tall as I want them, I just switch to bloom nutes and stand back.
For indoor/greenhouse growing they like a breeze, so oscillating fans are good.
And when they are in flower, give the stems a good shake everyday, it helps them self-pollinate in the absence of bees.
Lettuce works well indoors if you can provide cool temperatures 50-70F. Any hotter and they "bolt".
Same goes for Brassicas.
If you can keep the soil cool, grow strawberries and bush beans.
Onions are an easy grow.
You can grow chives on your windowsill
Peppers are easy and there's choke varieties.

Bit of heaven? Oh yeah!

But keep it on the down-low.
It's already gettin' a little crowded up in here.
Like the Eagles sang.
"Call someplace paradise, kiss it goodbye."
Talk-up the volcanos and hurricanes, ya?
