i will admit that i have Loose in my car, and i actually enjoy it to some degree, but i think that timbaland is really good on it too which is part of the reason i listen to it, but i like the first song, and the swahili kids or something at the end is kinda funny to hear while high.Quote:

No one's mentioned Beth Gibbons of Portishead yet?! Her voice is amazing...absolutely haunting on many of the tracks. The live version of "Sour Times" is to this day the only song that's ever made me cry she sings it with SO much emotion.
I also like aretha franklin, just power and soul.
I had an ex who was a big Fiona Apple fan and I grew to like her voice a lot too.

mine's between Grace Slick and Janis Joplin...both very powerful in their own unique ways, and I love me some psych music.
Tara Jane o'Neil, shes probably not "the best" but shes one of my favorites, and she can play guitar. Isobel Sollenberger and Kim Deal are up there too.
Billie Holiday. Easy, hands down.
But other top choices are:
Janis Joplin
Grace Slick of Jefferson Airplane
Chrissie Hynde
Bonnie Raitt (and can she paly a mean guitar!)
Ella Fitzgerald
Nelly Furtado, Lucinda Williams, Stevie Nicks, and Shakira for their unique vocal styles
And for the modern pop-crowd:
Cristina Aguilera for sheer vocal control and power
Fiona Apple, because her delivery makes the little hairs on the back of my neck stand up.
You never heard of her.
