Thought I'd do a brief (haha) update on my MK's. They are looking and doing great.....ppms are up to 1200 and not a real flaw on either plant; both looking very gorgeous and happy; growing very well.
So just to screw with things I checked how well the draining was with the roots coming out the bottom (in higromite rocks) To my surprise I discovered that at day24/bloom I am already seeing some PRETTY DAMN large root masses coming out the bottom.....all very white and healthy.....and did I mention PRETTY DAMN LARGE??? It seems to me that whether the holes are 1/4 inch, 1/2 inch or ONE inch those damn roots are going to STILL grow into beasts and clog the holes. I can just see a 8 inch wide taproot coming out the bottom of my hydro setup....if I HAD AN 8 INCH HOLE I THOROUGHLY BELIEVE IT WOULD. :wtf:
So I went ahead and drilled side holes. A ton of them. All over. I could tell that there were already dead roots and fert buildup in the bottoms of the buckets because I then flushed both plants heavily with ph'd ro water. I then measured the runoff. The ph was 5.7 (same ph as the water went in at) but the ppms of the water had gone from 15 to 350. That's ALOT of fert salts etc sitting in there.
Rhizome....I can't prove it but I think the clogging is the answer here. I would never have thought of it without the info you provided me with on the higromite and silica. Thanks.
PS...aren't you glad this is the BRIEF version. :D
