as far as i know the tropics are known for sativa strains. i dont think they are auto flowering, they just take longer to mature. they are better for an area with that amount of light. i have written this somewhere else that in jamaica (read in hightimes) they are now using some indica strains and they start to flower shortly after planting because of the daylight hours there. so they only reach a few inches of height before they are mature. the daylight/nighttime hours dont change there like they do in either northern or southern hemispheres. it is basicly like 14/10 all of the time.

does anyone actually know

Yes I know, unless it is a self flowering strain, do 18/6 to flower, 12/12 to bud, leave a few buds and healthy leaves, and go back to 18/6 to reveg. It will take a couple weeks to show growth signs.
You can also look up flowering times and conditions in most good seed banks, like Marijuana Seeds (cannabis, pot) shipped worldwide

I am so far from knowing everything it's not even funny, but I'm very glad to help. When I was in my teens and people asked me what I want to do with my life, I would tell them I just want to end up knowing everthing. That ended real fast.
