Are Deer A Serious Threat?

The best by far is deer netting... If the year is rainy and abundant dear will be selective... if it is a drought dear will eat mostly anything... piss works but it's something you have to maintain as it washes away... best I ever used as a maintenance is raw eggs... beat an egg into a gallon or 2 of water and keep it refridged,,, fill a spray bottle and spray the plant and the area weekly and after a heavy rain...

one of the best things that has worked for me (best because it doesn't have to be re-filled often) is to take a bar of irish soap, tie it inside some pantyhose, and hang it about two feet above the ground on a stick, or even a piece of rope. They don't like the smell of the stuff, and it doesn't wash away like coyote urine.

figure one for every ten square feet of grow space. I've used this method in my flower garden, and it's worked very well. if the plants are tall enough, you may want to do several sticks at the perimeter.

And really, worse comes to worse, if you really have a problem with deer, just put up some deer netting. it's cheap too, but it can be a bitch to put up and take down. Good Luck.

:) The area with the deer, the place is somewhat boggy and i'm at the eastern us, so it rains nearly every week or two. I doubt they'll be a drought. The deer ought to eat plenty as the vacant land is covered mostly in grass type of plants.

So deer don't particulary seek ought MJ, as long as there's enough grassess for them to eat?

Being an avid hunter, the only way to keep the deer off is to net or block it from them (fence etc). The piss thing is not a good idea, the hair idea etc, they all are the same. It contains human scent. That idea will work in parts of the country that have very little human contact, but when it comes down to it deer are used to these smells and dont care that they are there. Hell they eat in you back yard at night, and i know your scent is there. Trust me, deer are survivors, they get used to human contact. Thats why the numbers in city limits are so high, they adapt. Deer are browsers, feeding on anything they can digest with their 4 chambered stomach.....which is about everything. But prefer high nutrition foods like clover,acorns,soybeans etc. Get netting or a fence around it to keep them out. That or hire me to fill a couple tags on your deer!!! lol. Good luck buddy.

I'd prefer to castrate 'em(spay-n- neuter)!! My area is 'round people 1 1/2 side is homes and train tracks and a freeway on the other, butt it also borders a refuge national park or something, that's probably how they are there. Otherways it's mostly urban.

Hey the deer were there first, they aren't pests we are, correction we are a virus consuming this planet till we exhaust our resources and kill everything(if we don't blow it up first). Maybe we should practise mass sterilization on ourselves.

Another option is to provid them with enough food some where else to keep them full and away from you plants. We would throw out hay and oats to keep the deer away from our trees, which they seem to like more than grass especially new shoots and buds, so you may be shit outta luck.

I hunt, but I also feed deer with over 75 acres of food I plant just for them. But, at the same time, the healthier they are, the more they eat until the resources are all gone.........then they starve themselves or create mass diseases. That has been the case in many national parks and forests.............hence a restricted hunting season. All animals, even humans need management.....population management.

I know, I know, I was watching animal planet this morning, and like every show makes it a point to talk about us taking over habitates. I know the chain and circle of life. The more food, the more deer, the more deer the less food, the less food the more derr, and the less deer the more food just to go all over again, lol enogh grade school bio, there are joints to smoke and deer to scare away.

yea dear suck ive had countless crop failures caz of them... i use emdless amounts of Ivory soap strung up on surrounding posts/trees and put the soap shavings all around seems to do the trick also i have a friend who uses cages on all his plants seems to work well
