First CFL bagseed grow
Hello everyone, I am starting a grow log. First since I have been reading these forums for a while (but not posting) I have to give everyone props, there is alot of knowledge in these forums. I been smoking since the early 90's , and have done a few outdoor grows with success back in the 90's.
This is my first indoor grow and first grow in around 8 years, So im a little rusty but am learning alot quickly.
The seeds im using are bagseed for my first grow (I didnt want to kill good beans), but its good quality bagseed. I plan on ordering some better beans (Mandala's Hashberry, Female Seeds ICE and Joey weeds Sugar Blossom or Cinderella 99) for future grows.
I sprouted 4 seeds and they cracked January 1st , even at the first set of true leaves I could tell 3 were Indica dominant , 1 was Sativa Dominant. They are growing under two 6500k 26 watt CFL's. The setup is a little ghetto but it is serving its purpose. Ventalation is provided by a playstation 2 fan. The soil is
walmarts expert gardener with extra perlite added.
Here they are about 7 days old.

First CFL bagseed grow
After they got around month old there seemed to be a problem the plants seemed to stop growing and were very light green to yellow with some browning, at first I thought the ph could be off but it was fine, I had been giving them half doses of some old ass peters fertilizer (Later I found out 5 year old peter's fertilizer!).I was about to give up on them and throw them away...
Well I had a brain storm an realised the fertilizer was the problem. So i picked up some expert gardener all-purpose 28-8-16 fert at walmart. Within 3 days the plants were showing much improvement after a week they were starting to look healthy and new growth was happening in places leaves fell off at.
About 37 days old
(pics of them at after 1 week of good fert)

First CFL bagseed grow
Now after around 22 days of good fert (2 feedings of half strenght fert/1 day water) The plants are starting to look really healthy again. (exept one but ill explain more about that later)It is amazing how well the plants responded once I gave them good fertilizer. And how badly they responded to bad fertilizer.About a week ago I transplanted them out of those tiny cups into 1 liter containers. The plants were really root bound but the roots were all nice and white so at least I know the roots were healthy. ( I will plant them into 2-3 gallon containers when I flower them in another grow chamber )
About 52 days old taken yesterday.

First CFL bagseed grow
The 3 plants plants are all showing female preflowers ,two Indica dominant and the sativa dominant.
The one I call the 'finicky indica bitch' is having problems ever since she was small her leaves get brown spots on them and even after the fert change it still is hapenning even though shes alot healthier now. Also her leaves are curling under and slightly curling around the edges.
The other Indica dominant thats female is growing like a champ and I plan on taking cuttings from her for clones before I flower. Those two both smell alot! like a mixture of skunk, fruit and pine trees lol!
The other Indica dominant plant im not sure but I think it is a male :(
But hey 3 out of 4 plants female aint that bad after all , lol...
So far I have stressed these plants out quite a bit , so ill be glad if they produce any buds whatever.
For flowering I plan on give each plant 2 squre feet in 2-3 gallon pots, with two 26watt 6500k CFL's, and six 26 watt 2700k CFL's per plant for a total of 208watts of CFL per plant.
Any help/advice would be appreciated , expecially about the 'finicky bitch' plant who keeps getting brown spots on her leaves , shes not yellowing just keeps getting patches of brown spots on her leaves. Here is a pic of her see halfway down the plant the large brown spot on her leaves, she gets those quite often. They start off as a small patch of small brow dots then grow until eventually the leaf dies. Sorry for the photo quality my camera takes crap pictures up close.

Wow! You got a good ratio! Good luck with your grow.:greenthumb:
-
First CFL bagseed grow
Thanks Mrs. Greenjeans, I wasnt sure if I would even get a female or even a living plant with the stress I gave them early on. I use a jewler's magnifer to see the preflowers so im sure the 3 are definetly girls with lil white haires commin out the preflowers. I been reading your grow thread its making me laugh, especially when you said "I glanced over at lily and there was her little pube". lol...
-
First CFL bagseed grow
LOL! I'm so goofy sometimes. Well, most of the time actually. ;)
I had a finicky plant that turned out to be male. I still don't know what his problem was, only that the other plants never exhibited the same symptoms. Have you checked for mites?
-
First CFL bagseed grow
I havent seen any mites, I did have a problem with fungus nats for a while but i cured that by letting the soil dry out more and putting a venus fly trap and pitcher plant in the box lol... I dont want to just trash the finicky plant, because she is a female but I wont be making any clones of her.

First CFL bagseed grow
nice indicas look healthy
how many watts u got runnin?
-
First CFL bagseed grow
Right now there in a cramped 1 ft length by 1 ft width x 2 sq ft high box with two 26 watt 6500k CFL's.
Soon (within the next week or so) they will be given a bigger space and more light 1.5 ft length by 1.5 ft width x 3.5 sq ft height, and three 26 watt 2700k and two 6500k Cfl's per plant per plant ( 130 watts of CFL's per plant) Ill probally raise the ratio to six 26 watt 2700k , two 26 watt 6500k CFl ( 208 watts per plant) During mid flower.
Thanks ive had to will these plants back into health, sing to them , baby them lol. They were looking real bad so bad I didnt take any pictures of them during there near death , lol. The indica Dominant you see in the right hand side of all my day 52 pics is my favorite, And she already smells great, shes a female and I'll be making clones of her before I flower her.
The indica in the left hand side of the day 52 pics I think is a male but im hesitant to chop him/her down before I know for sure.
The other indica Outside the box in the day 52 pics is a female but is my trouble plant, no matter what I do for her she dosent like it, lol.
-
First CFL bagseed grow
Ok Heres a few more pics of my favorite Indica female.
Just snapped these, Seeing if i could take any better shots with my crappy camera, this is the plant I love the most. Nice smell , has been though hell and came back like a champ.

First CFL bagseed grow
She has grown ALOT in the last 10 days since I last posted, prolly doubled in size. So I think she has grown out of the shock I had my plants in when they were young and she is getting real bushy, growing nodes on top of nodes and branches everywhere.
Shes a little over 2 feet tall now, Her scent is very mild compared to the Indica's
I have.
-
First CFL bagseed grow
She is growing at a slow but steady pace. If you compare the last photos I posted of her you can see how much bushier she has gotten from the top view. She smells skunky and fruity. My fiance is always joking I got baby skunks in our closet, lol.
I have them in a temp home in a mid sized box while im working on the flower chamber(they overgrew there smaller veg box) There are four 26 watt 6500k cfl's and two 26 watt 2700k cfls in there "mid" sized grow chamber.) The mid sized grow chamber is 2ftx2ftx3ft. I should be done with the flower chamber within a week.
The other 2 indicas I have are still in turmoil. One of them "the fininky bitch" is still giving me problems acting like nothing I do for her is good enuff, while the other indica Is still not sexed yet. I see lil preflowers but I cant see any white hairs yet and I dont see any "balls" or clusters of preflowers that would make me think its male so its sex is still undetermined...
Within a couple weeks (2-3) . I'll prolly clone and flower these little girls ta see what kind of women they grow into. Im going to take a few clones from the sativa plant I have and also a couple from my favorite indica, I wonder how well the clones will do now that I have a little better grasp of growing them.
Sorry for the picture quality Im going to try and get a better camera soon.
-
First CFL bagseed grow
I think she needs a transplant to a bigger pot, that's maybe why she's slow.
-
First CFL bagseed grow
I know they have out grew these 1 liter pots in like less then 2 weeks. I was gonna wait a little longer to put then in bigger pots, but your right I should put them in bigger pots. Ill prolly move them up to bigger pots later today that should last them until Im done with there flower chamber.
-
First CFL bagseed grow
Ok my plants are in 1 gallon containers now, up from 1 liter containers. Hopefully these containers will last then until im done with there flower chamber. Ill take some more pictures soon.

First CFL bagseed grow
that soil you're using, would it happen to be this: http://img120.imageshack.us/img120/8...5441um1.th.jpg
i was wondering because that's what i'm using (obviously) and was told on another forum that it would kill my plants, but it def doesn't seem to be doing that to yours
-
First CFL bagseed grow
Yes thats the soil im using , "Expert Gardener Perfect Mix" i find it to be good soil. It does have trace amounts of fertilizer in it 0.10%-0.08%-0.06% , but that dosent seem ta harm little plants one bit. If your worried about your seedlings getting to much fert to early you could put them in jiffy cubes or use some other substrate until there roots grow a little. Even with those trace amounts of fert you will still need to use regular grow/bloom ferts or you plants will suffer I would suggest starting using half strength fertilizer once the plant reaches the 4th node. I like the soil because its got the dolamite lime/perlite in it and its got a nice texture along with the great price ($2.50 a bag in the usa at my favorite store walmart)
Those people who said that soil would kill your plants probally havent even used it before , or just ran into some bad luck.
Expert Gardener also makes good cheap fertilizers. There Expert Gardener 24-8-16 All purpose water soluble plant food is what Im using during vegg.
/me huggs (((walmart))) lol.
-
First CFL bagseed grow
aw good. i was in panic mode for my little happy plants. coincidentally, that's the exact same fertilizer i'm using too. also, there was supposed to be a comment in there somewhere on yours, lookin good man, lookin very good. And kudos on pulling them back from the brink, that's talent

First CFL bagseed grow
Ok ive snapped a few photos of my plants in there new grow area I have right now 156 watts of cfl and a 48 inch floro tube. I plan on adding more lights as the weeks progress (when I start flowering).
These plants are probably gonna stay in veggative stage another week or so.
I plan on taking clones off the 2 plants in the left hand side of the photos below. One is My best Indica female , the Other is my Sativa bush.
The area is in the back of a walk-in closet in a space above my stairs, in a area that was used for storage. The area is quite large 4.5'L X 3'W X 4.5'H I only plan on using 3'Lx3'Wx4.5'H and using a tarp to tarp of the rest when the plants flower. I painted the area flat white and made sure everything was nice and disinfected , I still got my other grow box for vegg/clones and seedlings soon I should be able to harvest every 2 months. :smokin:
First here are a couple of all the plants together, The two plants on the right hand side are the 2 plants I am probally gonna kill the smaller indica one in the back it is so small becase I keep it in a smaller container because I think its a male even though he hasnt shown any "pairs" of balls yet. The other three plants are female. The plant in the lower right hand side is my "finicky bitch" plant she dosent seem to like living.

First CFL bagseed grow
Here is some pics of my sativa female.
-
First CFL bagseed grow
Here are a couple pics of my favorite Indica female.
-
First CFL bagseed grow
Here is a pic of the plant I think is a male,im not 100% positive yet is the reason why "he" hasnt got chopped down. Its also why his container size hasnt been raised.
-
First CFL bagseed grow
Here is my pitiful "finicky" bitch indica female. she grows BUT her leaves curl under , she gets spots , Her leaves even curl at the sides making here look like a sativa plant. I think she gots plant AIDS or something. I am prolly still gonna flower this pitiful plant maybe ill get a couple grams off her ,lol. But ill never ever clone this pitiful specimen.
-
First CFL bagseed grow
Another picture of my sativa female plant (a side view) and a picture of all the plants with the circulating fan on them (I noticed there was a huge dust build up on the fan as you can see in the picture , from years of use lol, so I shop vac'ed it off.)

First CFL bagseed grow
How did you make that light fixture? I'm trying to build my own cabinet and a cfl setup like that would be great. Thanks in advance. Great grow and good luck!!!!!!!!!:rastasmoke:

Pennywisdom, the light fixure is simple to make its made of all walmart parts and requires no wiring (good for not burning houses down lol).
Heres what you need , per 4 cfl bulbs is :
--4 cfl bulbs "GE daylight 100's (6500K)" or "GE soft white 100's (2700k)",this depends on what cycle there being used for vegg or flower. Or you can mix spectrums.
--1 cheap extension cord ( like $1.25 at walmart)
--2 twin socket adapter (like $1.50ea at walmart) (you find these near the lighting section of walmart near timers, light sockets stuff like that) These look like a Y Shape , with a light socket on the end of them.
--2 Plug-in Outlet Adapter (like 1.25ea at walmart) (you find these in the same place in walmart that the twin socket adapter is in) These have a socket that accepts light bulbs that you plug into a electricity wall outlet.
Thats all ,no wiring just its just plug n play , also I got the multiple extension cords taped together with electrical tape.

First CFL bagseed grow
I wish the plant that I think is a male would show his balls , Im tired of keeping him around if he is a male. He gots preflowers that look diffrent than my female plants preflowers. But he dont got "pairs" of them yet so im still not positive maybe after I switch to 12/12 he will start bloom quick so I can Know

First CFL bagseed grow
Sweet! I bought I few porcelain lampholders at walmart and they are just too heavy. They also cost three bucks a pop so that saves me some money. :rastasmoke: I'm going to go pick up those plug-in outlet adapters today.
Thanks for the advice

First CFL bagseed grow
That's looking great for small op! And it's giving me real hope of testing my green thumb. :)
So do you plan on keeping them in that small of a space? If that's the case, then things really look good for me in the future. Thanks for sharing!
Oh yeah! How much of a harvest do you guesstimate you'll get?
-
First CFL bagseed grow
The space there in now as you can see from the last few post is a decent sized area for a small grow ( 4.5'L X 3'W X 4.5'H ) , before this they were in a small
(1'L X 1'W X 2'H) Veg box ( you can see this in the first few post I started this thread in).
Yes the flower chamber is gonna be where they stay During there full flower the space is just about the right size for a few nice sized plants. I do plan on increaseing the amount of Cfl's soon. And possibly getting a hps for my next grow. I have 3 female plants im hoping to get atleast 2ounces. Ive got female clones going from my two best females(1 indica / 1 sativa) and I plan on making bonsai mother plants out of the clones.
Thanks for the complements dizzy.

You're more than welcome!
I'm really glad to of found this place (website), the more that people like yourself share, the better the people, like myself, are going to be when it's our turn to create. I didn't realize how productive a "small" space could be... it's seriously opened up a lot of possibilities in my home. Hell, even under my damn computer desk!
Funny you should mention the "bonsai" mother plant... I remember when I lived with my mom many many years ago, her "man" had a decent Op, about 150 plants that helped fund the local Hell's Angels. Really really long story short, he had a "Bonsai" mother plant. You talk about a ROUGH looking ganja granny. I would swear the diameter of the trunk was at least 3".
Didn't mean to go all reminiscing in your thread, but that's what came to mind! hehe

First CFL bagseed grow
Yea small spaces are great for vegging , or even flowering (some people flower in pc cases lol). Like I said my veg box is only 1'x1'x1' and my flower space is
4.5'x3'x4.5' so you can get good results in small areas. I would suggest you have
2 seperate "spaces" 1 for vegging/clones/seedling and one for flowwering , that way you can have a continual harvest and get buds around every 2 months.

Looking Good, Doctor!
I started my last grow with MG potting soil w/perlite,vermiculite, composted manure and peatmoss and I had no growth problems at all.
This grow I've changed the base potting soil to one with no added nutes but I mixed the same ingredients as before with it.
