what if we go to war with iran.

Dick chaney said "all options are currently on the table" while stating that the united states WILL NOT allow iran to hold a nuclear weapon.
We are already fighting a failing war in Iraq. We most definatly can not fight another in iran. At least without the draft.
If they even attempt to try to go to war, i would sencerily hope that congress would tell bush to go fuck himself. After this year, the congress is going blue anyhow. the conservatives are gonna loose both house and senate hopefully. (bring on the impeachment!)

i have to go do community service, but when i get back ill continue posting.

Yeah, I've known that an Iran war was inevitable for quite a while. Just read a document called "Rebuilding America's Defenses" by PNAC (a neo-conservative think tank with members like Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld). It's available all over the web. In it, they basically explain how the future of American supremacy rests on us controlling Eurasia and its petroleum resources. So they decided to play a little game of tic-tac-toe in Asia. You can't take Afghanistan and then Iraq and leave Iran open to "hostile regimes", can you?

Truth is, they don't care about nukes in the hands of totalitarian régimes. If they did, they would be making the same threats against China. But they won't do that because China is an important trading partner and their military is fucking huge.

i've always felt iran has been the main target since the 1st gulf war and probably much earlier...like the early 80's when they 1st became anti-west, which is why we never left the gulf region back in the early 90's. i mean check out a map of the region...we now have iran totally surrounded! it wouldn't take much at all to boost the people and material needed to move on iran and it also wouldn't surprise me one bit if the draft is brought back again in the near future...

For one, I am a pretty liberal democrat and there is no way in hell I would vote for Hillary in '08. I'm a woman and I don't want to see a woman president, at least not now at this point in time. There is too much shit going on in the world to have a woman take over. And if, by some miraculous cause, she is elected president... I SERIOUSLY doubt legalizing marijuana is at the top of her list. Won't happen.

But back to the Iran thing... our troops are already stretched so thin throughout the world, if the U.S. was planning a full out attack on Iran, they would have to institute the draft, no doubt about it. My ex-boyfriend spent 13 months in Iraq when the war first started over there. They had to keep extending their time over there because they didn't have enough troops to do full rotations or whatever. And the war in Iraq, that won't be over anytime soon.

but it won't be an iraqi-style war needing troops to go in and take over land and government. iran will be an air attack designed to destroy as much military and nuclear postions as possible...for the 1st year or so anyway, giving plenty of time to re-man the army.

Even if that happened, it wouldn't do much for us. Dickhead Cheney would just be the president instead, and he's no better. The result would be that people would conveniently forget about all the evil crap that Bush did and would rally around a counteroffensive against whichever group or groups received the blame. On the other hand, if we educate enough people we might actually have a chance of creating an actual revolution capable of overthrowing the American government and changing our lives for the better.

Why not? There are several reasons why that is the most horrible idea I've heard in a long time. First, it would kill off mostly innocent people who haven't done anything wrong. Secondly, most of the dead would consist of people too poor to afford proper medical care, while the rich people (i.e. the people in power) will easily find ways to quarantine themselves from an epidemic and probably would not be too affected by it. Thirdly, since diseases don't know where our borders are, if we were successful in creating a bird flu epidemic in Iran, it would quickly spread to Iraq and Afghanistan, and then to any place that the soldiers there might want to go (like, say, the United Kingdom). And finally, using such methods of biological terrorism on the citizenry of Iran would cause a backlash from just about anybody who is against biological terrorism (i.e. pretty much everybody in the world). I can't see how the people responsible would not be convicted of genocide and deposed from power.

There is no war in Iraq. There's an insurgency, and yeah, if we're there another 25 years blowing them away, we might lose as many people as we did in the last real war (the Vietnam War). Wars are fought between armies. The insurgents have no army, just some poorly equipped, poorly organized gangs.

If we fight Iran, THAT could turn into a war. They are far better equipped than any insurgency, and while we would certainly win, it would not be nearly as easy as wiping out Saddam's army was. It would be easier than winning a war with North Korea though (and if we went to war with North Korea, we'd win there too, eventually). Going to war with Iran wouldn't be as rough as people might lead you to believe though, because we've got nearly 200,000 soldiers right next door doing little except playing as uniformed cops. We'd have air superiority within a day, and air supremacy within a week if we decided to tackle Iran militarily. And once you have air supremacy, everything gets a whole lot easier. Then it's just a matter of bombing targets until the enemy capitulates or there is no more enemy, whichever they choose. And then the aftermath: fighting another insurgency, assuming they capitulate before everyone is dead.

The rest of the Arab countries will stay out of this one. Fact is, Iran is the only Shi'ite dominate country next to Iraq. The Sunni's in the area will actually sigh a bit of relief to know that the Iranian nuclear threat has passed. Why do ya think that the majority of the countries in the region supported Saddam during the Iraq/Iran war? This is where the 40 billion in Iraqi debt started with the GCC states. Supposed grants at the time for war efforts have misteriously turned into loans after the fact.
