The more i think about the idea of dieing the less faith i seem to have...
Does anyone have any suggestions about what i should do to stop myself going completly insane????
Should i look into a religion that has some sort of comprehendable truth to it??
Or ........... I dont know
Any ideas at all about what i should do would be greatly appreciated...

do what you feel like doing. i was raised a catholic, my mom was a sunday school teacher, and i had 7 years of catholic education. what'd that do to me? it made me agnostic and i don't go to church anymore.
besides dieing is a part of life so don't worry so much about it

You don't need an organized religion. A lot of them have histories that make people wonder anyway, so you should just think of something that makes sense to you and go for it, changing things as you see fit. It's better to have a good idea than a suffocating requirement.

Do a brief study of a whole variety of religions so that you can say with confidence that their all pretty much fucked in their own special little way...and when your done with that try to live your life the best way you seem fit, cos one things for sure...we're all gonna die, after that...well after that is pretty much a mystery to us all...

I happen to be Christian, that's what works for me. You can look at it from any angle you like. When my son was younger and questioning his own beliefs, I discussed with him the soul as energy. Energy never disapates, it just changes form. Whether it is light to heat, or photosynthesis, energy continues. Now, the soul is energy, the core of humanity, it has to go somewhere. Whether you believe in "heaven and hell" literaly or not, we all must go on in some form. I read an article that explained we all lose 21 grams that are unexplainable at the time of death. Perhaps our soul, (Id, ego, energy force, whatever you want to call it) can account for this. At the very least remember that you are a link in the universe. Whatever effects you, effects the world, like the ripples in a pond when you toss in a rock. You're an intelligent thoughtful person, (or you wouldn't have such questions) and I'm glad to meet you! :o Kuu

I myself am an atheist and i started thinking the way you are when i was about 12, and became an atheist when i was 13. All i can say is read up on some scientific points of view on the subject on religion instead of just reading religious points of view. If you only read about the religious side your just going to get one sided, biased points of view.
When i started losing my faith i was somewhat distraught but then i read about the big bang, evolution, and everything i could about space, and i found these explanations of our existence to be much more peaceful than any religious explanation. No worrying about choosing the right religion, or burning in hell for choosing the wrong one. And just think about this, no religion has any proof nor any evidence to support its claims, and i mean absolutly NONE. The theory of evolution and big bang theory have many experiments and observational data to back them, and an extremely large percentage of the scientific community as well. I suggest you look into these subjects since your thoughts are very similar to the ones i used to have.

az666...the answers are within you.

If you feel that religion will give you the answers that you seek, then that is the answer.

No one else can tell you what is best for you.

Death is nothing to be afraid of...but it's not your time.
You have things that are yet undone, experiences that are still to be discovered.
I have met with the Grim Reaper, and the experience was unlike anything that I have felt before..not fear, not happiness..just...I dunno - it's hard to describe...a sense of overwhelming calm and acceptence...but it wasn't my time....

This might interest you...but remain openminded - the truth you seek, can only come from within - http://www.humantruth.org/basebook.htm

Find yourself, before you begin to look for anyone/anything else :)

relegion as you all know is just full of beliefs who is to say which is right and which is wrong. I think as long as you believe you will never be wrong! Believe whats in your heart and dont let no other religion brain wash you!

theres some bloody great big force around. i just call it life. some put funny looking six armed deitys and dead jews on altars and rock back n forth murmuring.
carbon man...carbon...
anyhoo think of all the millions of people that have lived before us. there are almost as many people alive today than have ever lived before in all history.
when i feel down i think of how good a life ive had so far in 28 years, compared to the billions of buggers dying in hell everyday.
take me now so my atoms can become something else. like a pilchard or something...

Talking about death.......today in class I wrote my obituary
talk about feeling weird. I said that I died at the age of 95 in a fatal skydiving accident with my husband. Our parachutes failed to open. At least I died doing something I always wanted to do! Our prof. even asked some to share I did. I think I want to die with zest if you can? not in some bed all cripled:(

az,

We all have feelings like what you're talking about from time to time, it's normal. But it's our nature to wonder. Do you concentrate on each breath and heartbeat? No, somehow it takes care of itself. Don't worry.

I know it's paradoxical, but think on this for a minute. If you didn't exist, but somehow could wish for it, your very existance would be the most precious thing you could imagine. The ability to see, hear, touch, get stoned, think about things, etc., I think you get whay I mean. And you already have it. In a manned of speaking, you've already conquered death, and don't need to concern yourself about it. You're free to enjoy the life you have.

In the place where you're at, or at least when you wrote the post, is one of those moments in life when some Jim Jones can come along and sucker punch you, get you to accept their narrow view of how things work, all for the promise of salvation. Don't do it. You'll never find truth anywhere but within yourself. Not that any "religion" is wrong or right, in the most basic sense, but in my opinion trying to find God when you're at a disadvantage is like that old song "The Girls All Look Prettier at Closing Time". Wait 'till morning when your head is clear. Look at a sunset or something, and realize you're standing in the middle of the most miraculous thing going; the ability to percieve and question.

By the way, you'll probably live a whole hell of a lot longer than you expect.

Good words, 4252 :)

I, too, believe that we live in the most wonderous place in the known universe...it's just a pity that not everyone see that
Some people need guidance...they might look for that in religion...I look for it within my self. Not always clear to see, but I live and die by my decisions, rather than being told how to live my life.

Even now, with christmas fast approaching, I don't know how the hell I'm gonna make it into the new year - money problems. The kids won't be getting anything this year, and that makes me feel sad as fuck - but, I am grateful for so many things, too...I have my kids, and although they might be upset at not getting anything, I hope I can show them that it is not always about those material things.
Sure, their mother will most likely have something to say about it, but hey..she's a queen bitch, and money and possession is all she cares about...go figure

Something will happen, I am sure...and I also believe that this is just another test designed to show me who I am.

I hate these fucking tests lol
But, there are people in this world who would be grateful to have a decent meal on their table...who would be happy to have their family around them...who don't have to wake up to another day of violence and death.....I count my blessings :)

You don't need religion to have meaning in your life. I am a very self motivated, life loving person and I have been an Atheist since 9th grade. Have a look at Secular Humanism. Also if you are into science read about Transhumanism.

"I would rather be ashes than dust! I would rather that my spark should burn out in a brilliant blaze than it should be stifled by dry rot. I would rather be a superb meteor, every atom of me in magnificent glow, than a sleepy and permanent planet. The proper function of man is to live, not to exist. I shall not waste my days in trying to prolong them. I shall use my time." Jack London

Take a step bk, look inside and find yourself. You will learn a lot of things and discover that your life is worth making t most of. If u live each day too die it will cause nothing but damage, instead hold ur head up high and believe u can make t most of who u are. If u have faith in yourself u will have faith in life.

Hope things get better for u babes n hope tht helps xxx

find truth and peace within yourself instead of going to outside sources. before you can make any advancements in life you have to at least have some sense of your inner self.

christianity is not the "only way to go" for a start. and there is no scientific proof that god exists infact its quite the opposite.

I think God exists, but I don't believe HE/She/It is an old man with a beard sitting on a cloud judging us all by how many Hail Marys we said. The thing I say to all the people who've tried to convince me their way is the only way is that I can question my beliefs, but they refuse to examine theirs. Therefore I have an advantage. Look, our central issues are about creation and afterlife. We just don't really have any answers. To accept doctrine is to close your mind. I must qualify this by saying I went to a Catholic school, and those nuns provided me with a lifetime and a half of stand-up comedy material. This is the reason I hate penguins, through no fault of their (the penguins) own.

Yes 4252, the completion of a convent education was enough to turn me off organised religion for life. We had a couple of sadistic bitches to deal with - definately not fit to be around children.

Lulu,

Damn, but I like that name.

And to think it all started with just a little misunderstanding....
They thought I was the anti-Christ (snare drum roll)

I went through the evolution of stark terror>bitter hatred>derisive insulting>humor>empathy for those old nuns. It took decades. Sure they slapped me around some, but the church (and maybe their parents) probably slapped them a lot harder. It took some considerable maturity before I imagined what it must be like for them to live in the male dominated, closed society that they existed in back then. And I wasn't an ideal kid, by any means.

But at least I have nice hand writing. (Bass kick)

Like someone else said, dying is a part of life. It happens everywhere in nature, and everything is recycled. Live they way you really want to not worrying about where youll end up when its all over.

Death is the seed from which I grow.

Good to hear back from you, I was wondering. Somehow I knew you'd get it sorted out. If you're smart enough to ask the questions, then you're smart enough to figure out the answers.
