Greetings to you all. I'm new here, and have a question I'd like to put to the general membership for which I haven't seen any information, or even informed speculation, anywhere.

Let's say a guy has to endure random testing at regular intervals, at work (quarterly), and has the option of abstaining 1 or so months out of 3 each quarter, just in case the computer lottery at work tells management it's his turn to piss in a cup this time around. So he's relatively safe due to the predictability of the test schedule. Let's also say that he started growing his own a short while ago.

The question is, can proximity to growing plants, and the occasional handling of same, put those metabolites in his system, and trigger a positive test, even if he hasn't had a toke in a month and a half or so. I (he) can certainly smell the aroma from the plants in the hypothetical cabinet in the hypothetical basement workshop, and must of necessity trim them from time to time. Not to mention the drying of the trimmings in the kitchen microwave.

Anybody care to comment on this one?

Depends on the type of testing. Piss tests would likely be safe, but in a skin test you're throroughly and undeniably fucked. It even depends on the piss test, to a point. The fact is that you do absorb some of the resin off the leaves, but it's quite minute. Unless they have an insanely sensitive test, it wouldn't show up. Just remember: it is on your skin, hair, and sweat.

I would have to agree with zara. I doubt that you could absorb enough THC through your skin to create a positive test. Is this hypothetical person actually you?

No absolutely not. PUff untill your time comes then stop like 3 or 4 weeks before hand and excercise a shit load, go the sauna etc...(Sweat a lot). Also take pills called Niocin and drink cranberry juice, oh yeah with all of this drink copious amounts of water and you'll be pissin' like a race horse. Good Luck

Rachel, you know something I don't? (Hell, everybody knows things I don't). I'm a bit nervous about all this, since I know so little about the subject, and am reluctant to take chances. I have a pretty good job and rather like the lifestyle that goes with it. So I throw myself on the mercy of the reefer forum here and try to get this thing sorted out the best I can. I'm grateful for the advice of the members here.

Happy birthday. You ride western, I take it. What kind of horse do you have and what's he/she like? I had a horse when I was a kid; she was a buckskin, and too high spirited for me to handle very well. We rode english style (maybe that was the problem), and I called her Ursa Minor, which is the name of a star constellation.

Sounds as though you're stressing rather hard. How much notice do you get after your name is drawn? If it's more than an few minutes, there's always the possibility of getting clean piss and faking it. Just a thought

I know that people often worry about things needlessly...and if you're not actually inhaling marijuana smoke a month prior to the test, then there's hardly a chance of it being positive. I suppose there's always a slight risk. You just have to accept it if you want to keep smoking weed. Worrying is bad!

Thank you! Birthdays are great! And actually I ride english (jumping). My horse is a 6 year old Dutch Warmblood/Thoroughbred gelding. He's 15.3hh, bay with a blaze. His name is Lou, and he's a real sweetheart! Here's a pic of him below.

Ursa minor...also known as the little dipper! lol, thats a cute name. :p

Good looking horse. I guess I misunderstood the part about the pink chaps you got for your birthday. Sounded like western gear to me. Aren't they those things the cowboy guys wear over their pants?

What, me worry? Sure; I work in a cut throat kind of place, a small/mid sized company that thinks it's IBM. Type X pretending to be type Y, if you know what I mean. My job is demanding as hell, but I'm compensated pretty good. I guess that I never quite let go of the 60's while the rest of the world was moving on and embracing Neo Nazi principles. So be it.

I want to thank you all for the advice and concern. It's sort of comforting to know this group is here, and that there is this enclave of (in)sanity I can relate to. And the switchblade forums too, of course.

They are a western thing yeah, but I like them and they're very conveniant to throw on over anything. English and western both.

Were you around in the 60s?! I would have loved to seen those times...

Rachel,

I must have been lapsing when I said Dipper was a buckskin, she looked a lot more like your horse; black mane, tail, and the bottoms of her legs, reddish brown coat, and a white "star" on her forehead. I guess that she was a bay after all. She was a beautiful horse, and after 40 plus years I remember her like it was yesterday.

Yes, I was there with a capitol T. The 60's I mean. Saw Hendrix, Zeppelin, The Who, Rolling Stones, Tull, Dead, Moody Blues, etc. etc. Went to the original Woodstock; did the green acid in spite of the warnings (they warned about everything). The movie and accounts I've heard didn't do justice to the event, it was more like Resonate's Plateau than anything else I've ever experienced. Played guitar in more bands than I'd care to mention, was in and out of love more times than I care to remember. Drove sports cars way too fast, lived like there was no tomorrow. It seemed like maybe there would be no tomorrow, possibly, as we all half expected to be nuked by the Soviets any day. Didn't protest the Viet Nam war, went there, but didn't kill anybody. Did the Thai in spite of the warnings (they warned about everything). Became a draftsman instead of the next Jimi Hendrix, but don't regret any of it. Have made many mistakes and wrong decisions in my life, ended up as a wiry old man with a cat and a lot of boring memories. Wouldn't change a thing for all the tea in China.

I could try to help you out.

You work for a small/midsize company. A couple of questions.

1. Does your company outsource it's HR?

2. Do you know that any of your co-workers have actually taken a drug test?

3. Is this a job that requires a security clearance?

Hi Bongman,

Outsourcing? Way! We've got temps all over the place, and resell our products made by vendors in China, Taiwan, etc.

I've taken 3 tests so far, in 5 years of employment there; every 3 months they "randomly" tell 10% of the work force they have to report to the piss test place, usually within an hour or so. It's about a 1 1/2 hour round trip, and a real pain in the ass. Last time around (October) one of the guys in production got fired for a positive. I don't know the details. The company is as secretive as it can be, but some of us keep our ear to the ground.

I'm not sure about the security clearance; I picked up a rating when I was a production foreman for U.T.C. some years ago; we did a lot of defense work in my groups, as well as a brief stint working plainclothes for a local county, and I have been in so many "sensitive" positions over the last 30 years or so that I've lost track. I don't think it's a factor on my present job, just another way for the company to bully us working guys.

Wow, your life sounds wonderful! I think the greatest thing is to experience as much as possible, and you've probably experienced a lot of things! Did you ever get to see the Sex Pistols?

And just out of curiosity, how old are you now?

4252
12-11-2004, 03:32 AM
Well, I'm not so sure about wonderful. Compared to many, my life's about as impressive as a pimple on a fly's ass. But thanks for the thought.

"Being there" isn't all it's cracked up to be. I read the book Forest Gump recently; it's not much like the movie, but pretty well sums up the way I've stumbled through it all (except for the retarded part, and that's debatable). I haven't made a bold path through life, more like being swept along by the current. I've been lucky, I'll say that much. And luck has a nasty habit of deserting you when things get crazy. Hope I didn't just jinx myself.

And this wonderful life of mine has left me partially deaf in one ear, a cracked skull, and some serious problems with authority. For all the stuff I've done and seen, as smart, talented, and experienced as I'm supposed to be, I still look at myself with dissatisfaction sometimes. But if I'd done things different, I wouldn't be who I am, and where I'm at is ok. A guy could do a lot worse.

No, I've never seen the Sex Pistols. But I've had a lot of sex, and fired thousands of rounds from various pistols. Odd as it may sound, among the performers I've seen who've made the deepest impression on me were Ray Charles, Bobby Darrin, and the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra. Not exactly counter-culture stuff. And it was a rare privilege to have seen the above mentioned bands, among others.

What impresses me is the world you are living in. As I said, I wouldn't change anything in my life. But I can imagine what it's like to be 17 in the present day, and all the things you are going to do during your life that I can't even imagine, or ever will. Not that I'd want to be 17 again. In '68 they put men on the moon. We all thought that by the present time the world would be futuristic as hell, like The Jetsons or something. Not that we all went around back then saying "Wow, man, this is a long time ago", but things turned out much differently than anyone could have predicted. How strange it seems that some things are so staggeringly advanced, like technology, and at the same time so rooted in the past, like this old house I'm so fond of. When I was 17, if I'd given it much thought, I'd have imagined myself living in a geodesic dome or on Mars by now, flying my car to Israel and back just for lunch.

Oh, by the way, I'm 53, and feel like I'm around 18 or 19 (could that be the arrested psychological development they warned us about?).

And though I've been forgetting to say so, thanks for taking the time to talk to an old grouch like me. With your looks, personality, and brains, you probably have lots of better things to do.
