Hey peeples!
I've been on a little vacation from growing, which is coming to an end soon!
So I thought that as I got things back up and running I would document the construction of my grow spaces.
It's all going to be very basic.
I won't be using odor control, as I don't need it where I am.
My operation is going to be a 2-room perpetual harvest with a third, small, room dedicated to breeding.
Soil and fertilizer will be very heavily oriented towards organic supplements and nutrient sources. I may try coco... we'll see.
I like the PureBlend Pro line for basic nutes, as well as TopMax bloom supplement and organic soil amendments.
The plants are going to be pinched into 'BOG bushes' (as my fertilizer guy affectionately calls them), and will be flowered only 7 at a time, in 3 gallon pails, on a 7-week crop cycle, with one bush harvested weekly.
The strains I'm going to be working with are from rescued mothers that have been in exile since I bailed on my last grow.
They include:
BOG Bogglegum
BOG *BlueMoonRocks
BOG unknown (from mix)
PlanB Black Indica
PlanB Smashberry
Rushman's *Toxic Lemon
Spice of Life *Grapefruit mix unknown- nice pheno
ChocolateChunk
Hindu Kush
My own Afghan x BOG medley cross
And a *Matanuska Thunderfuck-derived strain given to me by someone awesome. Big kiss to you cutie!!!!
*=focusing on these as they all carry a trait for SERIOUS hardiness!
In addition, my seed collection has about 30 named strains plus many unnamed/unstabilized works-in-progress in it and those will be grown out and added to the mother collection as I have space.
I'll be getting going on construction over the weekend, and trying to get all my lights back from the 4 corners of the Earth where they were scattered when I bailed.
This log is going to get off to a REALLY slow start.
I hope you guys enjoy it!

Most younger growers probably aren't thinking about portability of a grow, but for those of us with some real dirt under our nails and a couple scares behind us, we know how important it is to be able to remove all traces of your grow from your home in less than 12 hours.
When I broke down my last grow it took me 4 full days, and it wasn't a very large grow either; it had just really taken over my whole house and insinuated itself into almost every aspect of my daily life.
I was finding grow items in places I could easily have forgotten about and left vulnerable to a raid... fertilizer stains on the door to the bathroom... perlite under every throw rug in the house... foot-long stems that the dog had been playing with and stashed under furniture for later... papers, books, catalogs, magazines, seed envelopes... scales, hash residue in cookpots, rootballs in my compost heap, trim in the vacuum cleaner, you name it, it was there.
So this time I am going to do it all modular. There will be no mylar stapled to walls or neem-oil overspray all over the floor.
My plan for a flowering grow-pod is pretty simple... it has to be foldable down to a size that you can just toss into a pickup truck and get gone in minutes. My ideas for this mostly involve PVC pipe with the connection fittings rigged with pins so they can be taken apart fast. Then PandaFilm as a cover. Another idea would be to use 4x8 sheets of shower-wall particleboard.
I have to go to Home DePOT and think about it, lol!
Protecting the floor is really important. Not just to protect the rug or whatever, but because you want to be able to just roll up a tarp and have it be totally clean. The heaviest tarp you can find is an absolute MUST for floor protection. 2 tarps is even better.
For a backup plan, I was lucky enough to know a couple people who took over my flowering females and equipment. But that isn't enough. This time I'm getting a storage unit too, although they aren't especially safe, you can buy yourself a little time. Just don't EVER put living plants in there!
These are all things I wish that I had taken into consideration last time around. No one wants to think that they might get raided, but until our rather draconian laws change, it's a hard fact that a grower lives with every day, whether you are aware of it or not, so it's better to be aware and prepared.

Hey sup Demeter
The chocolate chunk was a gift from a friend.
It isn't something that I would have bought myself... the high is too sativa-ish for my taste... but the flavor is nice.
Earthy with chocolate undertones.
It's a little on the finicky side to clone too.

I'm extremely interested in the portability part. I'll be watching this thread closely.
Say, I'm going to be moving soon. Care to advise me on how to transport to the new home without upsetting my darlings over much?

Care to advise me on how to transport to the new home without upsetting my darlings over much?
No prob.
Keep them protected from extremes of heat and cold.
Avoid weird light changes.
I moved my veggers in OPAQUE rubbermaid totes.
The mothers were only in 4.5" pots, very small, the tallest being less than 18" ground to tip, so they fit nicely in a garden-sized tote.
Flowering females MUST be moved during their dark cycle, very quickly.
Put each one in a double layer of a black plastic trash bag, blow into it to inflate it, and tape it up tight.
Do this right when the lights go out for the last time on moving day.
You now have 12 hours to get them where they are going.
If you miss that window, I suggest that you just skip the lights-on cycle for that day entirely, but DO untape the bag, fluff out the stale air, and reinflate and seal it again.
You don't want them to suffocate.

Righteous! Thanks so much. If you hadn't posted this, I would've f'd up and moved them during their light cycle.

Well I've been doing a little work around the ol' garden.
And a lot of thinking.
Something I forgot to say in the 'security' post was that it really helps to always have SMALL versions of your prize mothers.
So sure, go ahead and grow yourself some mean trees to take cuttings off of, but keep a couple plants of each strain you can't afford to lose in small pots, clipped down short, that you can throw them all in the trunk in a rubbermaid tote and get them somewhere safe FAST.
I think that planning on only a single carload that you will be able to save is a good call... do you want to save a couple big trees, or 20 different strains?
Something to think about.

Here's a few pics.
#1- The space that will be used for flowering when it comes time.
It's a walk-in closet that is ~6 feet wide and 8 feet deep, will be lit with 1400 w total HPS. When I scrounge up some lights.
#2- Some of my mothers came home last night! Here they are just chillin' under a MH250 that um yeah, my mentor lent me, lol. They survived everything by being small. Those are only 4.5 inch, 1 litre pots.
#3- my clone dome. It's in the pantry protected from drafts, and sitting on a seedling heat mat. That's just a single CFL. They don't need a ton of light. They are in rapid rooters, clonex, and plain city tap water. KISS.
Oh fuck me in the ear, I can't upload pics yet, WTF!!!!
Anyway when I can, that's what they will be, lol!

I never had a chance to flower one but it's a Rushman strain, very sturdy. One of the burliest plants I've seen.
Thick stems, large, thick leaves.
Stinks a bit even in veg.

Hey foxy, nice to see you here! What you say about the toxic lemon sounds like my ppp - there are two big fat ones that smell stinky already, and they are weeks away from the flower room! I need to build one of those carbon filters- I will see if I can get all the equip at Lowes this weekend.
How do you keep yourself from picking baby buds? They look sooooo cute I want to taste them, but I know I will be cheating myself out of good bud if I do, so I restrain myself, just barely.
foxysox
02-23-2007, 02:38 PM
Heya Demeter!
Damn... baby buds... I used to keep from picking them by having a perpetual crop going... and anyway I'm not a cashcropper, so whatever I grow pertty much goes to head stash, lol... always a bit of smoke about the house!
And anyway I know that I don't like the high too much... I'd rather wait for the buds to mature to that mellowing couchlock stage.
Update on the clones-
They were taken Monday night so this is day 3.5 in their little lives.
The ones that had flopped over are now upright and I predict 100% survival!
Temperature in my kitchen has been in the low 60s all week- this is why the heat mat is a NECESSITY.
It is helpful even when you have better climate control, but I was not seeing 100% survival until I bought one of those little $25 US gadgets, IMO one of the best inventions ever for propagation! (the other 2 being IBA or IAA, and rapid rooters, lol)

Oh those are indole-3-butyric acid and I think indole-acetic??-acid..
Common rooting hormones... IBA is the one in Clonex... that shit is hella tight.
Foxy's setup for rooting clones is pretty standard.
If you are forgetful, what you can do is pour a bunch of water into the main tray that holds the plug insert... not deep enough to TOUCH the plugs, but deep enough to keep a nice level of humidity since the heat from beneath is increasing the ambient humidity via increased evaporation rates.

Put yourself on a diet of Top Ramen and Black Label for 1 week.
You may die of dehydration, but at least you will be able to afford a heat mat.
You can also be way ghetto about it...get a plastic milk crate. Get a work light. Put a 75w INCANDESCENT bulb in it. (this is the only time you should ever let one NEAR your plants, lol!) Fix it so the bulb is up against inside the milk crate... can you invision this?.. put your prop tray over the lamp. Voila, instant heat. Not the best, but it will do in a pinch.

Sup peeps
It's been a while but I have all sorts of updates!
So this weekend I got busy.
Pic 1: The closet. I didn't repaint (no time, but the paint is a REALLY light, bright sort of aqua)
Space is 66"x18"x8 feet tall.
I found studs for my hooks. You can't mess around with this step. Drop a light, and you have a dangerous situation.
Pic 2: My power strip is up off the floor for safety. I'm using the ballast as a heat source for now; I keep my house at like 60 degrees, being supa cheap.
Pic 3: I put in a shelf for propagation. I've got 2 of these little pot-roasters, lol. There's space for 3, but I'll be getting my New Wave T5 24" fixture back soon and plan to give rooted clones a couple weeks veg time under it just for an extra boost.
Pic 4: My ballast is a great little heat source to make my yeasts happy. That's a little 1quart CO2 generator. It has water, 1/2c. sugar, and a packet of yeast. Shortly after taking this pic I left and came back to find it had totally bubbled over so now it is on a dish. Lucky I caught it before it got the ballast wet and/or nasty.
BTW it STINKS. My dining room smells like a damn brewery.
Pic 5: The solution to my brewery stank problem. Little Trees. Fresh as a motherfuckin' BREEZE.

Well, after reading bluebear's coocoo for coco thread (Bear - I totally respect your skills! :D) I am sold on the stuff. I am going to try it out and see how awesome it is. I got the good stuff... pre-leached, lower salt content than some schwaggy coco.
Obviously I'll be putting clones in it, but I did an experiment Saturday night (that's what the popular girls do on saturday nights... stay home repotting their houseplants, lol) to see how well my little mothers would enjoy being re-homed.
I started with 2 females, a Yeag's MTF and a Rushman's Toxic Lemon, chosen because they are tough plants, and the Yeag's MTF totally needed to be repotted anyway as it had been in that soil for like 6 months and a couple leaves were showing scorch.
So I tried a couple ways to get as much dirt off as I could.
The MTF got soaked in tepid water, rinsed, soaked, rinsed, until the soil was mostly washed away.
The Tox Lemon just got shaken over the rubbish until the soil fell off.
When they went into the new pots and medium, I spread the roots out and also tilted them sideways for future training.
As of this morning, neither is showing any signs of transplant shock at ALL. I am very surprised because I was a little rough with them.
So here's some pics..
1- MTF needs repotting pretty badly
2- MTF soaking
3-MTF root ball all wet
4-Tox L root ball, dry/shaken
5-MTF in her new home

What a mess!
I could plant grass in my kitchen, there's so much dirt on everything!
Pics!
1- I got these little waste baskets at walmart for $1.50 each. I drilled holes into the edges of the corners, and on the sides too. That's the drill bit for the job. It's just a 1/2" paddle bit.
2- Breaking up coco bales SUCKS. Glad I have hefty forks. Not like the ones that your future in-laws give you as a housewarming present when you move in with your fiancee who they don't like... you know... where the knife bends when you try to cut with it? Even with a fork it took FOREVER.
3- AWWWWW aren't they cute? Seriously, see how happy everyone looks now compared to the first pics. That's just like a week of better temps, a MH250, and some PureBlend Pro Grow (organic, yummy! The fert smells almost good enough to drink!)
After seeing that the transplant took, I will be putting ALL my mother stock in coco.
Oh! I also started 2 white rhino x papaya beans in rapid-rooters, just for shits and giggles, to see if they are as awesome for seeds as they are for clones. I turned the plugs upside down and made slits with a razor, and just planted the seed directly in there, pointy end down, and put them in a baggie on the ballast. That was the 24th.

Well, everything went smoothly last night retrieving the remainder of my moms.
It was snowing and dark - great weather to sneak plants around without being hassled.
Here's some pics-
1- The condition of a plant that has been somewhat neglected in a 50 degree cellar for 6 weeks. It is showing signs of salt buildup, fungus, and new growth is really stunted from the cold. It's a SmashBerry female. Not the toughest strain I've ever worked with anyway, but she should pull through with a repotting, a flush with serenade, and a new home.
2- There they are! All the happy girls! There's a couple males in the back too that were too valuable IMO to kill when I bailed.
3- My temporary flower corner. HAHAHAHA no making fun of me!!! Yes, thats a MH400. My 'real' lights should be coming home this week. Those 7 plants consist of 2 Bogglegum, 2 Black Indica, a Yeag's MTF, a smashberry, and a Hindu kush. One of the bogglegums isn't sexed yet actually.
4- I still need to do some cleaning, lol. And yes, that IS a kilt in the upper left hanging off that shelf. Foxy's a proud Scot.
So today is officially day 1 of flower, starting this morning at 8am when the plants started their first dark period. Most of those strains are exceptionally fast finishers, because SOMEONE is a bit impatient when it comes to her gardening.
I'm going to repot them into coco in a week or so when they are recovered a little more from the shock of a new environment.
Another update is that from the new moms, I have enough viable shoots to do a clone run this weekend... we'll see if it happens... my man is coming into town and something tells me I'm not going to be doing much of anything that can be discussed in polite company, lol.

Let's see, that makes...shit, like 60 hours. Holy crap! That's the fastest I've seen anything break dirt, EVER, and that would be even AFTER pre-soaking, and these beans were NOT pre-soaked, they went RIGHT into the plugs dry.

Word Dusto! I certainly hope so.
That cross should be interesting.
The white rhino DID seem to be a reasonably vigorous plant, and according to my somewhat sloppy at the time notes, the cross should have been a papaya male who had a touch of resin to him, and I expect a VERY solid product out of the mix.

Yeah UGU really has his shit together.
I think that the Nirvana Papaya mango knockoff is one of the best deals on seeds around.
I was told by my local peeps when they were over for a wine 'n' weed tasting recently that I should focus exclusively on growing papaya production stylee, because it had the best flavor of anything they had smoked.
But of course that's not my game; I like ot mix things up, and anyway they have never tasted the SAGE, lol. Or the BOG bogglegum. Both standouts.

Okay today is SERIOUS DAY.... there will be no mirth, no hilarity, and NO SNICKERING!!!
Actually... forget it... I could use some cheering up... the sox game was less than thrilling last night... a tie (I hate preseason games, WTF!!! What's the point if there's no LOSER!!!) with the Twins, with their skinny, young new pitcher... up against Schilling... should have gone much better... the only good thing I noticed is that Big Papi is lookin' hotter than a tamale this season. BEEEEEEEEFCAKE!!! :D
Anyway no pics, but an update.
-W Rhino x... 3/4 have emerged from the rapidrooters... they went under a CFL this morning and lost their little mini greenhouse (ziploc bag)
-Looked through my plants again and found 2 of unknown sex, a Sweet Tooth and the most vigorous of my Afghan x BOG seedlings, which has grown into a good looking plant, so those went to be sexed this morning. That makes 3 unknowns, because there was that bogglegum too.
-The remaining mother stock is:
2 BOG unknowns
1 Yeag's MTF
2 SmashBerry
1 Sweet Tooth
1 Toxic Lemon
1 Hindu Kush
1 Bogglegum
1 Chocolate Chunk
So I am down to my goal of 12 or fewer mothers, and I'll be adding a couple strains and getting the duplicates into flower soon.
I also have males of:
BlueMoonRocks
Black Indica
Toxic Lemon
Those are just hanging out until I have more time/space/funds to build a breeding cabinet.
Of the clones, the first to show a full mop of roots was the Yeag's MTF, with a BOG unknown coming in second, but still not nearly as vigorous. Those got potted up in coco in 3 1/2" square deep pots, new ones, not salvaged ones like I've used in the past... no more freaking bugs, dammit.
In other news...
I removed the CO2 yeast thing.. whatever.. it just smelled too narsty.
I also moved the heated clone dome back to my pantry, and got the ballast out of the closet, as temps around here have been springlike and my house isn't colder than an igloo with the door open anymore. The temps in the closet got into the mid 80s. Fine now though. That little MH250 throws VERY little heat.
Growth on most of my mother stock is looking really good. There are a couple individuals though who are showing classic symptoms of salt tox and will have their roots washed and get repotted in coco probably tonight. I was just waiting to see if the other 2 took it well, and for the new arrivals to acclimate a bit.
Oddly the worst affected are the 2 Smashberry plants. While I LOVE the flavor of the final product, they seem to want a little more attention than your average indoor plant, and dislike the sort of abuse I've been heaping on them.

Update... all 4 W Rhino x seedlings are doing fine... roots already poking out of plug... no signs of nute problems... will use rapidrooters for seeds from now on.
Took another ~20 clones from my girlies... some from the first batch are lagging behind but most are ready; I've got 2 pot-roasters anyway so it is not a big deal... I think I'll get in the habit of taking some cuts every week.
I'm expecting a package from Canada in the mail today... mmmm.... BOG SourBubble BX3... thx kd...you rock. Those will be getting popped this week. That strain is a total FREAK of crazy flavor and frost, bred from a pheno of Bogglegum, which I already work with, and which is no slouch! It clones easily too, bonus.

Geez, okay, okay!!!
Pics for our favorite f[r]oggy.
Here's a 'what not to do' pic!!!
This girlie has survived 6 weeks in a 50 degree cellar, been overwatered by her plantsitter, also underwatered, is suffering major lockouts as well, and is rootbound as all get-out.
She's a ~6 month old Plan B Smashberry that has been chopped for clones 4 times and not repotted since, oh, October of 2006.
So last night she got a good flushing and will be given a new home this weekend- if she shows signs of recovery, she'll be flowered next month.
This strain takes poorly to abuse and I would not recommend it for a nOOb. Other plants in my garden that have been subjected to the same treatment are still looking pretty good, considering.
In other news... my BOG SourBubble BX3 arrived safely... beautifully packaged by a clever fellow grower... I moistened the beans this morning, just 4 of them, directly into rapidrooters. The test I did with the White Rhino X went fine (lost one that decided to grow INTO the middle of the CFL, damn I need to get my T5 fixture back, lol!) and the remaining 3 seedliings are now in coco.

Wow, that's one jacked up plant. I'm sure you'll bring her back, though.:
Ugh I'm not even sure if I want to bother... I have clones off her... she might get culled as a waste of space.
Updates,
I started 4 Bogglegum x BlueJay (BGG X BJ) and 4 BlueMoonRocks x ??? (BMR X)-accidental pollination, not many seeds, like 8 on the whole plant, but suspect it was blown onto that plant when I did my Papaya F2 cross... oops!
It should be good either way, as both are strong plants with very solid growth characteristics, flavorful, and strong.
In the flower room, things are looking nice. I'm not to the cottonball buds stage yet, but pistil production is picking up! I've got MH400 + HPS400 lighting a space that is only 2x3 feet... will be changed this weekend when I replace the bulb on my HPS1000 but for now, whatever; it's still early in the game.

A peace offering to the f[r]og... some fresh pics:
-My 2 'pot-roaster' clone setup, that cycles weekly, 20 cuttings a week, giving each group 14 days to grow good roots... they root well enough in that time that I have not had any humidity shock taking them out from under the domes, even without slow acclimation as is typically good practice
-here's where they go after!! It's only temporary... I lent my t5 to a friend... buying a new one Monday, maybe the *sigh* 4-footer!!!
-a closeup of the plant that is about to get culled. I'm really leaning towards root-rot on this one, on top of all the other shit... there's no hope for it really in this case, as the plant is already so stressed! Moral of this story, you got a strain you love, keep 2 mothers! It's all good, she's backed up by several clones.
-this is how I'm starting seeds to go into coco, 4 at a time, in rapidrooters, in a tupperware, then in a labelled baggie, set on top of a ballast that runs 24/0 for constant, gentle heat.
-here's their next home, 3" pots in a bed of coco fibre. I know those CFLs suck!! hush up!!! I'm redoing the grow room this coming week.

I'm only posting with a quick update.
I put another Yeag's MTF and a Sweet Tooth into flower last night. They are both retired moms about a foot tall with a foot canopy spread, pruned to 4-6 main growing tips each.
I've got another small batch of clones going, no big deal, just a few each of Toxic Lemon, Yeag'sMTF, and Bogglegum.
Seedlings are fine albeit stretched from the poor lighting I had before. There are a couple new ones too, some bagseed from some amazing smoke that my man picked up in a club when he was in Atlanta recently... Fulton County's finest, lol. We'll see how those turn out.
The lights shown in the previous pics are gone- now there's aMH 250 over the rooted clones and seedlings, and a MH400 over the moms. I still don't have my damned T5 fixture back yet.
Flowering is going fine; I repotted the plants at different times and the ones that were repotted earliest of course have the most growth, including bud growht.
That Bogglegum that had been re-vegged is smelling so good I can't get over it- candy sweet- like sour hard fruit candies- mmmm. Bud denisty sucks because she was re-vegged and I'm monitoring very closely for herms.

Both these plants almost died in the move but after repotting in coco and flushing like crazy have come back to life and are almost tripled in size.

I know it has been a while.
The first plant in flower that is showing signs of starting to ripen is the Yeag's MTF; it's only 36 days in and the hairs are starting to turn on a couple lower buds. Aroma of that plant is strongly of black peppercorns.
The Bogglegum looks like it may be next and smells ridiculously fruity and is SO sticky.
Here's some canopy pics! My camera hates HID lighting. The crappy looking plants are rescues from the cellar ordeal that never really recovered. The others recovered fine as you can see. All of the plants in flower ATM are left over from a previous grow that had to be broken down for security reasons. The next batch of clones that are vegging right now should be ready in ~2 weeks.
Actually the pic that ISN'T crappy is fro the veg closet, oops!

I decided to repost this here from Dutch and Harris' log... useful.
My girl Foxy was having major problems with her last run of clones and I talked to the fertilizer guy about it.
Despite bleaching the prop trays etc and using sterile tools, the slips started developing necrotic patches within days of coming off the plant, and this despite a nice mist of copper fungicide 2x a day.
Guy said that it sounded like a Ca problem and showed me his cucumber and melon plants, which are VERY heavy feeders and seem to need extra Ca indoors, and they had been showing pretty similar problems... parts of an otherwise healthy leaf just going brown and papery while the rest of the leaf stayed fine... weird.
Anyway she's starting to prep her moms with calmag now and we'll see how the next run goes.
BTW this became a problem when she switched my old moms to coco when she took them over. Very interesting. I had always assumed our city water had plenty of dissolved Ca in it...
Ima go repost this in her log too.

Updates...
Well there's not a whole heckuva lot going on but I am starting to get a feel for what the final product of the various strains is going to be like.
My personal favorite out of the ones that are nearing the end of flower is actually Stinky's (Afghani dream x homegrown) x BOG unknown. She has very dense buds and smells like a freaking DREAM... perfume and fruit... and very sticky. She is also the most vigorous plant in my garden.
The Yeag's MTF is definitely reeking of sweet black pepper.
The Bogglegum has thick thick pistils and a heavy frost, and smells intensely of fruit.
The Black Indica is frosty and sticky, but doesn't smell until you squeeze a bud, and then the aroma is subtle spice. I expect her to be a very nice smoke.
The smashberry that is almost dead smells like berries, lol.
Okay, here's what the girls got for breakfast this morning:
1 gallon of water
1 oz pure blend pro bloom
1 oz top max
1 oz neptune's harvest kelp extract
1 oz molasses dissolved in hot water
My last run of clones has officially rooted (roots are coming out of the plugs, they 'stuck' after only about 2 days!), woot, that's only 10 days! I heart rapidrooters.
Um lesee, I still haven't picked up any calmag and am getting it today, but yeah, I guess I REALLY needed it going from soil into coco; Stinky had been using that fish emulsion that has a bunch of Ca in it, like 1 ppm according to the company. I'm not using it in coco and the last run of clones suffered losses that I at first thought were fungus but my fertilizer guy identified as Ca deficiency, and then I started noticing it on the otherwise healthy mothiers too, yikes, caught that one just in time.
I'm starting some new seeds from a friend today too... Foggy Day #4... we smoked a little this week and of his 2 strains, #4 and #5, this one is more my style. It has a strongly earthy aroma that comes through in the taste too, surprising too since I've never gotten that from a plant grown in hydro, I expect great things treating it organically!
I'll try to get some good pics tonight right before the HIDs come on, under just flouros, so you can see the frost better!
That Hindu Kush mother that I decided to flower is turning into an unmanageable monster and I've got her ties to stakes stuck into other plants' pots, lol!! My goal even with all the different strains is to keep the canopy no more than 2 feet off the floor, so everyone is getting bent over and clipped down.
Something neat I recently saw at an orchid show was using those little decorative plastic hair clips, the ones that look like 2 combs and a spring, to clip stems to stakes. The little mini ones that are only about 1cm seem really promising to do all the training and still be able to undo the clips and move plants around as they grow and ripen at different rates.

The thing is I DO have a second grow space which is a small mother/cloning closet. You can easily build one with a portable tool shed like Xcrispi did. His is VERY nice.
I've only got a single 1000 going right now because I don't have enough plants to fill the space, but doing all the work myself, the total is going to be:
2x1000HPS Sunsystem X.... $350 each including all the toys
1x400HPS inside sun... I think it was like $150... it's for the first 2 weeks that the plants are in that room, I can just cram a whole bunch under there because they are still short and the light penetration isn't a problem.. it's suitable for only a 3x3 foot floor space, hung ~20 inches from the plants
Exhaust shit... 2 duct booster fans, $30 each at home depot, 16 feet of flexible duct hose, the good shit, not that plastic crap, $25 also at home dePOT, and a roll of duct tape. You have to wire that shit yourself.
Okay also a bunch of Panda film to make a light-lock entryway where I can keep additional fans... even though I have an active intake, there's a fan in the entryway blowing even more air around the edges of the film. That fan only comes on when the lights are on but the duct fans are on 24 hours a day to make sure temperatures remain not constant, but dont fluctuate more than 15 degrees.
The room that the closet is off has an air conditioner in it that is on a thermostat and runs when temps get above 70, and the closet stays below 85.
MR Overgrow I can't say this enough!! You need LOTS of airflow and LOTS of light.
ima go copy part of this post back into my log too.

Update,
All plants in both grow rooms got flushed 2 days ago.
This is the first time I have had to do a flush on coco and I found it to be far faster, cleaner, and generally less of a pain in the tuckas than soil.
I have been feeding aggressively... a little TOO aggressively... while I am not seeing much in the way of burns per se, there are definitely signs of lockouts such as red petioles, bright yellow streaks surrounding necrotic patches, plus signs of Nitrogen overdose such as upside-down canoe leaves and dull, dark green growth, plus visible white salt crystals on the surface of the medium.
This is interesting to me- in soil, those salt crystals just aren't that easy to see, but in coco they stand out and make it even easier to diagnose problems early.
Since the flush, the one plant that was practically dead from N tox has made a full recovery and new growth is looking not GREAT but it will survive no problem.
They will all be getting another flush this weekend just to be on the safe side, and then fed on a little gentler fert dosage.
Thx P! :D

Hey, Foxy! How's it going? Looking good. Glad you are able to do that for a friend. It's good stuff. Ummm...so I am getting more and more interested in Coco...so I'm gonna have to keep doing research on that. Sounds like interesting stuff. Must hold much more water than hydrorocks! LOL Love all the strains you have going on. I'd love to puff on summadat. That new strain Foggy Day #4 seems like it's right up my alley. :D Sounds delicious. Is there a name for the #5? Mambo #5 perchance? That would be cool. :) Looking forward to seeing those in action. Keep posting pics! :)

Updates.
Moms, shown in closet, have been flushed, treated with CalMag, and prepped for cutting using my method of bloom fert instead of veg fert for the last couple feedings, and sprayed with wilt-pruf. I will also clip the fan leaves down to half while they are still on the living plant to give them time to heal before cutting and avoiding the potential for disease to enter while they are in the warm, humid cloning environment. It's just a precaution. I've done it both ways.
Started some more seeds; 3 bluemoonrocks, some more Yeag's MTF, a sage x, and a BOG unknown x of which the female showed very strong purple traits and a grape/grapefruit flavor, and was a very sturdy plant.
The closeup pics are of a Yeag's MTF less than a week from chop.
There are 4 plants in the flower room that will be coming down very soon.
Have some pics.

2- Some transplanting
3- A BOG unknown plant that grows .. uh... too fast, lol!!
4- Bonsai... Ain't she purdy?

Hey I really like the new photos. Did you get a new cam? I also wanted to ask, what makes your soil so 'brown'...is there coco in there? do you use less perlite than others or do you just add 50/50 perlite/vermiculite?
Thanks for sharing, Im gaga over the last pic the most. Hey, where can I get a flowering cannabis tree?????????????? LOL again, love it.

Cool.
It's the same cam, but I'm not using it under HID lighting, and I'm propping it on shit so it focuses better. It still sucks equally.
Medium... actually it is 100% coco, the Botanicare stuff. VERY good product. The reason you are seeing traces of perlite and shit in there is that those plants WERE transplanted out of dirt that was REALLY salty and toxic after those poor girls were in my friend's basement- you can see the bright yellow and burnt leaves on parts of the plants; that's left over from all that mess. I tried to wash the roots pretty well but there was enough left to make it look like I'm using some weird mix, lol.
Last pic... yeah it's a little deceiving; that plant is only about 20 inches tall from the soil surface but looks bigger in the pics. That one is a Plan B Collective Black Indica.
Check the pic that has my hand in it- It's a Yeag's Matanuska Thunderfuck that was topped and cut for clones earlier in its life. The internodes on that beast are less than an inch apart, and that's under conditions tht the other plants were showing quite a bit of stretch. VERY impressed with that strain. She's also showing GREAT frost. That one, a Black Indica, a Bogglegum, and a couple others are getting chopped tomorrow or Saturday.

Fox how much square footing would you say you have total for all your growing delights?
foxysox
04-19-2007, 07:41 PM
Flower room= ~5x6, so 30 square feet in there with a HPS1000 and an additional HPS400 for when I get closer to capacity.
Veg closet= 2 levels, each about 5x2, so 20 square feet in there, lit by 650 W total of MH
Seedling shelf- has not been posted yet- just lit by a 24" T5 new wave fixture, 2 square feet.
Cloners- 4 square feet when they are both full, lit by just 1 CFL each.

Heya bree
-I can't show you trichs because my camera is evil
-I'm using both the actual botanicare coco media, AND the Pure Blend Pro nutrients that are very nice in coco or soil. I think Botanicare makes really solid products, both media and nutes, plus their line of supplements is really comprehensive, reasonably priced; I personally think the Power Plant/ Power Flower stuff is great too, but it's not from organic sources.

Bad news... I lost my last run of clones. We got a VERY unseasonably hot day, the room that my cloning setup is in gets SW exposure and has very large windows, and I haven't plugged in my a/c yet this year.... durr it's APRIL.
So temps got into the 90s in the room... prop tray is sitting on a heat mat... I imagine the temps in there probably hit 100 and well, whoever coined the term 'pot-roaster' for my tray-and-dome setup was DEAD ON.
So the next batch is getting rooted in the bathroom, that has blinds on the windows and is the coolest room in the house.
SHIT.
In other news, Plan B Black Indica came down the night of the 22nd and smells FABULOUS and got my fingers stickier than anything I've ever trimmed.
Oh you have no idea how freaking pissed I am to lose those clones. I have to get my flower room restocked since I've got 3 more plants coming down this week.

I copied this from a different thread...
xcrispi, I took a bunch of new cuttings last night using the clonex and rapidrooters and this time instead of humidity dome + misting, I made up the recommended 10:1 dilution of wilt-pruf and added ~4mL of copper based fungicide to a 20 oz volume of wilt pruf working solution. Then I shook it up like crazy and used it to dunk the entire cutting into. I also took more clonex in a dropper and sort of filled up the rest of the holes in the rapidrooters with it. Just an experiment, lol! What I noticed this morning is:
-no wilt at all
-some leaves are showing the signs of suffocation from the gooey wilt pruf, little dark translucent green patches on the underside of the leaves. It doesn't look too severe and unless it gets wose, I'm not worried.
My big thing is, I want to see if the copper solution inhibits rooting or harms the cuttings in any way. I'm just sick of mold, since my temps are so high at this time of year, and it has been a problem the last run.
Here's some pics anyway... notice how glossy and wet-looking the cuttings are from the anti-transpirant. I fear I may have overdone it a bit!
I put the dome on them at night just to keep them a little warmer.. furnace is off for the year and night temps are a little chilly still.

Hey guys I'm glad you posted... I was starting to get that talking to a wall feeling!!!
Phew!
Well Demeter and Dusto, I can assure you that you will not have to wait for a smoke report!
Demeter, let me know when classes are done and you're out from under your piles of paperwork! I would actually be down for tossing the canoes on the car and maybe doing the Concord and Assabet rivers... whatcha think? It's a nice paddle this time of year, a little crowded thx to all the yuppies from Middlesex County, but still pleasant.
Dusto, hahaha a fast forward button would be great. If I had a super power I think that would be in contention... it would save me having to sit through my mother's "why haven't you gone back to graduate school yet you're wasting your life and btw you should be dating a guy with a PhD" lectures... AAAAGH!!!! I just got another one of those last week. It is probably the most unpleasant thing that happens to me on a regular basis. Well, that and menstrual cramps, lol!! Thank goodness the cramps are more frequent than the lectures. And I know when to expect them so I can take a Vicodin and a nap.
But yeah... the little bit of ugly smashberry I salvaged is pretty much done and smells like mixed berry jam, YUMMMY!, the Yeag's MTF went into a jar yesterday, the Black Indica went in today, and a Bogglegum got chopped last night. The weather has been warm and dry here so things are moving along nicely and I expect smokeable product by this time next week... which means I get to bring some MTF out to the Yeag when I go visit next weekend!

Dusto that's a great excuse, hahaha do you have a bunch of photographic equipment that you can have laying around, like maybe hit up a couple pawn shops for old-school manual cameras? A trick I have used recently when company comes over, to mask the smell, is to pour a bunch of white distilled vinegar into a tray and leave that in a hidden spot in my entrance hall... it smells like vinegar... I just say that I had to scrub a spot off the carpet where [insert excuse such as dog peed, roommate's girlfriend got smashed and yakked, etc] hahaha works like a charm; all you can smell is acrid/chemical stank.
Of course, with your luck... watch the landlord be an amateur photographer and be all, oh cool, let's talk shop! :D

Well I am at my wits end re: stupid stupid clones.
Suddenly I am having problems.
Like, this time I did 1:10 wilt pruf + just a small amount of copper fungicide as a dip.
The plants aren't wilting, but they are showing even worse signs of suffocation, and I suspect they won't survive.
I get the feeling that the listed 1:10 dilution on the antitranspirant is only suitable if one intends to apply it as a light MIST, not dunk cuttings in it.
I have to get get some expert advice here f'real.
Why do I think I'm making this overly complicated?

Updates!
Well stranger things HAVE happened, but not in my garden.. up to this point!
Af X BOG decided to turn maroon... true, clear, rich maroon... over the course of the last 2 days, and temps are staying above 68 even at night! What WHAT???!!! She's a beauty though, already the prettiest lady in my garden BEFORE her chameleonic turn!
The clones from the last 2 runs... a few from the first one, with the heat anr rot, seem like they are going to make it. I think there are 3 that will survive.. a little ratty, but alive.
The ones from the run that was dunked in wiltpruf, I lost half within the first 24h but of the ones that survived, they appear to have already struck... the stems don't pull out of the plugs easily... they are still perky, but damaged! Weird.
So I took another lot last night, effectively cleaning myself completely out of avaliable cloning stock, and went back to the old way of doing things, but using the wilt-pruf dunk I made as a foliar mist instead. Moved the whole setup back into my pantry, where it had worked well before (constant temperatures, no sunlight), and propped the dome a little so the humidity is higer than the room, but lower than it had been in the past.
This morning everyone is looking very very perky.

i just put the shoes away in favor of flip-flops cuz all the socks are dirty...damit.
I have a home edition of Golden Tee, so we don't need the putting greens. And i really really suck at real Golf, I need to get "my size" clubs custom so I can swing correctly, and as of now, those aren't part of my game plan. I feel if its good enough weather to go golf, I should be surfing or something.
Thats funny you call for a Caddy, cuz thats what I do when we go golfing, I just get drunk and drive the cart around. It's not too bad, as long as there's enough beer and a pipe. One cart even got wrecked, we drove it it back to them with 3 wheels my roomie crashed into this huge water fountain

I golf at this shitty chip-and-putt where they have a big, mean, domestic goose to chase away all the Canada geese, but instead it chases the golfers more often. All the guys who play there are landscape contractors from the hill towns, who play shirtless and barefoot pretty often, and they allow coolers. I must say the scenery is very nice there.
The other course I play is at someone's house up in Newark, VT, a half hour north of St. Johnsbury. It is seriously this old retired guy who had an excavating company, and his grandkids gave him a bag of greens seed as a joke, and he built a REALLY good par-3 behind his house. You just stick $3 in his mailbox, or $4 for the whole day.
No carts at either of these places... just lots of empty bud light cans.

Still chillin'.
The flower room is hand-watered and will be out of necessity; the plants and pots are all different sizes and different strains and they all use different amounts of water.
However the top shelf of my veg closet, where everyone is in little 3" pots hanging out, could use a nice little mini drip-to-waste system. It's a real bitch trying to get in there with a watering can. There's not that much space!!!
Edit: lol I was going to say just email... then you edited!!!

If you just do ALL coco, then you can plant them in the same drip system as long as the strenght required is close. then just go recirc, then wa-la your done.

Nice system. I have to go on a much smaller scale. I hope the guy at the fert shop ordered some more 4'x18" or whatever size they were trays, that look like they are ideal for the space. I am even considering a small gravity-fed system! Let me draw a crappy diagram... hahaha I suck as bad as my camera... double suckage!!!

Actually now that I think about it recirc is going to be easier to stuff in that space.

04-27-2007, 05:28 PM
yeah, i like the set up. It will work well, you just have to make sure there is enough fluid to keep the pump "wet" while its pumping. But yeah, you dont even need drippers if you fashion up your own drip rings like i did.
EDIT: just move the gravity fed thingy over to the other side, and you wont have to pump so far, and its just easier, maybe?

04-27-2007, 05:35 PM
That pic contains 2 different potential setups.
The res shown on the right, that would be for drip to waste, with the lower res being for waste.
The alternative is to use the lower res for nutes in a recirc fashion. It would then have a pump and pump to emitters in each pot.
Yeah I know about wetting the pump from my dithering around with flood/drain.
Tray is not predrilled but Foxy's a handy chick.

Sup peeps.
I have some updates to report, and for a change, they are... OMG.... positive!
100% survival on last batch of clones. Apparently I was just going through a slump. lol. Even more surprising is that many of these cuts were what I would consider to be 'undersirable' shoots- from mothers that weren't prepped all that well, and not necessarily the nice, vigorous shoots high on the plant that I typically would like to take. But wOOt, not even the smallest hint of fungus this time round!
Also I picked up some new treats yesterday.
First off, a new type of bloom fert. It's locally produced and is called 'Cornucopia Bloom')- From Vermont, very very inexpensive, and comes with a recommendation from a [now retired] grower who now uses it happily on hydro veggls.
Also a friend lent me an extra hydro tray to do some experimenting with automatic drip. It's a small one, the EXACT size that would be ideal to veg under a New Wave T5 4' fixture, which I am too po' to buy atm, but covet, lol. So that's what I get to tinker with this afternoon instead of doing laundry and vacuuming like I am supposed to.
Gardening pwns housework. If only June Cleever had figured this out....
So anyway that's that.
Oh wait my bad it's not. I've been on a Rotenone campaign for the past week. I mixed up a litre of the stuff and have been HOSING my veg room with it. Stupid thirps. Plan is to knock them back hard and then hit the survivors with Avid... mwahahaha!!! DIE thrips! Going well so far.

Updates.
Tray table is in.
Very nice fit in the space, btw, for any of you who live in Victorian-era homes that have those little shallow closets in them...
I ended up putting the tray on its table in the bottom half, then lowering the top shelf, and creating a larger area to move the mothers 'upstairs'. It's nice. I stuck my MH400 in the top half for moms, and the MH250 in the bottom for rooted cuts, there's space UNDER the table for the propagation trays and a res or waste bucket.
Pics tomorrow.

Here's the closet as it is right now. No automation yet.
Just running 6 moms upstairs... have a couple smaller replacements for 'retired' moms downstairs... total # of strains is actually pretty outrageous atm. It's over a dozen. hahahaha I'm like the poster child for what ADD can do for an indoor gardener...
I also have a Black Indica smoke report to share.
I think I may have a new winner...
Smell is very spicy
Flavor has a pine-woods (not like fresh pine, but like if you pick up a handful of needles from the forest floor... earthy and musty, but still definitely pine) aftertaste, and my friend said almost a hint of CHIVES, lol! What I got was piney-earthy and he says piney-chivy. hahaha go figure. But he was chowing on steamed dumplings with garlic sauce at the time and may have been tasting Chinese takeout.
Okay, as for the buzz... this is the best part.
Effect is noticeable after only one hit. Surprisingly alert for how much of a calming effect it has. Happy high, totally functional, very very relaxed. Both of us have anxiety and we agreed it's dead on the money for that.
Oh, the last pic is a clone that died of suffocation from too much wiltpruf.

nice setup foxy; very nice! looks very similar to my old setup for moms/clones/veg...
if i may inquire (and thanx for the link on the fert), what is the lineage of the black indica? sounds very much like something going around here; they're calling it black cherry (no fruit taste whatsoever) and it's good stuff; friend said she got it from vermont...??
anywho... i look forward to your experiments with water and coco :p i was wanting to try coco coir, i just can't find any coco...:p
side note:
my field cuttings (no knife, scissors, or rooting agent) are doing great. they are in a raised delta in a stream. plenty of water, but not too much... i'm interested to see what mother nature can do by herself. if they take, i'll take pix.
nice to see a stand up proffesional grow. i'm jealous (more like wistful?)
have fun! hope the cuttings do good for you!

I have never dealt with BC Bud depot; they just happened to have the info posted. This isn't an endoresment by any stretch.
https://www.*****online.com/seed_packs.php?seedID=1098&category=Plan%20B
I picked up my Black Indica seeds at Sacred Seed in Toronto.
Thing is, although the plant is a tad darker in color than most, it's not purple and I can't see where the 'black' came from, but very stocky and dense. I think I need to pick up another pack of these seeds and see if any other phenos crop up, because in the strain description there is no mention of pine flavor.
Thanks for the props re: professional... hahaha far from it but hey, it works for me!

Loving the veg closet, Foxy. Looks nice and proper, now. :) So, what do you do for ventilation in there? I see you don't have air-cooled hoods, so do you just leave the door open or do you have an exhaust hidden in there somewhere? The plants look good. Mothers look like they're doing WELL. :D You need a tray under there to catch your runoff, don't you? ;)
So, how about a pic of your flower room currently? :) You propped your camera up for these pics, didn't you? :)

Thank you so much... Crispi, coming from you (you seem to be a bit of a neat freak about your garden!) that's QUITE a compliment!!!
Yeah the space is being used SO much better now, and it has to be. If you go back to page 1 of this log, you can see what my closet evolved from in the course of the last 2 months. hahaha it was pretty bad, but then again I had like no plants anyway. Now that I'm back up to speed, optimizing the space is super important.
Ventilation, I've got 4 of those little fans you can see in one of the pics, and I prop the door by ~5" at night and leave it even further open during the day. The room that closet is off has very poor temp control. I am happy if the closet stays in the 80s!!! lol that's changing very soon though. There's a good chance I will knock a hole through the wall that separates that closet with the one off my living room, and which also has chimney access in it, knock a hole in the chimney, and run duct. All my home systems are the fancy direct-vented shit so the chimney isn't used any more.
Anyway those 2 little MH are a 250 and a 400... they don't throw a ton of heat, and the ballasts are outside the closet.
Yes I need a runoff tray... will be picking one up when the next stock order comes in to the grow shop... identical to the one that that table is made of most likely. Then I can do a drip up there if I feel like it..
I actually didn't prop the camera... just took pics before my morning pot of coffee... lol when I'm not all spazzy and shaky.
Flower room... not a hell of a lot going on in there atm. It looks just like it did last time... I take a plant out for harvest and put a new one in to flower... the overall view stays the same. Booo-ring!!!

Hi there- I think you are out of town right now, but I have just surfaced after being in the weeds (not in the good weed way, but in the restaurant lingo I am so swamped way) for about a week, so I am just saying hi foxy!
The pics look great and the black indica sounds wonderful- I have been feeling a litle anxious lately, so would love to try some
The pure power plant I harvested is pure delicious! Much more densely packed buds than the blue haze, very rich herb tasting, and the high is up and calming at the same time. Today is my first day of vacation and I am sampling it right now-:bonghit:
I still have one ppp in flower which should be ready to chop in a week or so, along with three blue haze clones that got too big for the veg room.
I just added the seven sisters (one is a SAGE and one is a BBXtrainwreck and I am not sure of the other five) to the flower room and it is even more crowded than when you saw it last!
I will post some pics later on my grow log- right now I need to go out and plant some sage, swiss chard, dill, sunflowers, broccoli, etc.

Now, I am going to have a puff of nice pure power plant and go for a walk on this beautiful day!
BTW- I have had some problems with my cheap timer, it hasn't been working right the past few days so the light hours in the flowere room have varied a little- have I ruined the harvest? I have actually found some seeds in the cured blue haze bud, but only a few here and there, and I never even saw nanners then:wtf: so I am a bit worried about the girls in the flower room now since they had two days of spastic disruption. As much as my neighbor is such a sweetie for looking after my girlies, we all know how tough it can be for a novice to judge when a plant has been watered properly.
On the up side, the not-very-well-rooted 1 week clones that I had to leave did okay! I lost a few but turning off the heat mat, a good mist with wiltpruf, and sticking the whole flat UNDER my drain table seems to have done the trick.

Yo, what you best idea on how to get these thrips out of my garden. I'm pissed. These fuckers....is there something i can add in to my rez to get them out of my coco. They live there right, so a foliar spray or fog wouldn't take care of those. How are your plants doing in the coco. I have seen unprecedented growth in my plants. For example, my stalks used to be like sharpie marker thickness or slightly thicker when they were finished, and now they are already magic marker thickness. Think that that will flow thru to bud size? One thing i miss tho is being able to give personal attention to each plant cuz they are locked in due to the drip tubing. I have those rings around them.

As for my coco endeavours.. lol... this is what I'm finding:
-Vegging is fucking AMAZING. They grow like wildfire.
-Calcium problems are rampant. Apparently there is actually a chemical interaction between the coco and Calcium, and I am going to try pre-conditioning my medium in the future by soaking it in a solution of water, bone meal, and Soil Syrup (organic acid) to try and get all the binding sites on the coco pre-saturated with Calcium.
-I am returning to a compost mix for flowering to avoid nute problems. The one I'm thinking of still inclueds 1/3 coco, but also 1/3 compost and 1/3 perlite. I expect that it will help immensely, and I will be able now to use the organic soil amendments that I have been happy with all along.

Okay, I had a chat re: thrips with my local fertilizer expert...
The consensus is that thrips are evil.
Their life cycles in 4-5 days.
When you fog, you have to repeat the fog in 3-4 days to be assured of a complete kill because there is little penetration of the media.
This is how the little fuckheads operate:
Adult lays eggs in the meristem of the plant
Eggs hatch
LArvae emerge- it is this life stage that is most damaging, as I'm sure you have noticed!!! - and proceed to eat everything in sight
Larvae tend to hang out on the undersides of the leaves, making them harder to kill.
When they are all full and ready to pupate, they drop off the leaves and onto the soil surface, then burrow down a bit, pupate, and emerge as adults to breed and repeat the cycle over again.
Temps in the high 80s make the cycle 4 days... other wise it is a little longer.
We talked about a way to interrupt it. One thing he said is to protect the soil surface so that the larvae never reach the soil, and die without pupating. You have I'm sure seen the hydro grows- particularly waterfarm stylee- where the grower will put a slit styrofoam party plate around the stem to keep humidity confined? Same thing works to keep thrip larvae from ever finding your soil.
dusto2k3
05-11-2007, 03:11 PM
Foxy - HEy girl, when i went to the hydro shop near me, i was gonna buy a non-canna coco block. The guy there recommended that i use the Canna Buffer. It's to pre buffer the medium and resoplve the calcium issues. I hear you cannot let it dry out inbetween watering, you you will have Ca issues.
Stinky, ahhh, jus twhat i'm looking to hear from ya. Ima go and do the raid bomb at HD, the blue and yellow ones. and do 3 bombs4 days apart. Hey, its saye to used during week 3-4 correct?
Thanks for you info :)

I just bought that bomb last night but silly girl that I am forgot to set it off this morning, because I was so excited about finally catching the damn mouse that has been terrorizing my kitchen every night. lol. Cute little fucker... dead now.
I checked the label again and it's permethrin.
I'm going to look it up, but I'm bombing tonight and a couple plants are only a few days from harvest, so if you don't hear from me, I'm dead. lol.
That's really interesting about the drying out bit. I don't see how that would make a difference unless the chemistry is dependent upon a reaction IN an aqueous solution. Hm... Very interesting. Either way, I only see this shit in the flower room where temps are higher than fuck. I think I am FINALLY going to have to break down and buy an air-cooled hood. Oh, hell. That means poking holes in the wall to my crawlspace too. Can I tell you how excited I ain't about that?

Oh yeah I forget that you are like crazy sharpshooter guy! lol I used to shoot competitively but no longer keep weapons in the house. When my friend in VT finally agrees to teach me to rabbit hunt, things will be different. mmmmm bunnies are delicious... :D

hell ya, bunnies are good. But my urban bunnies, i'll have to pass. I snipe them from our balcony cuz they eat my outdoor garden. My neighbor gave us the green light to hunt in hius backyard too, he says just pick up the dead ones cuz his wife would trip!;)
Lol, i learned one day that the walls have studs behind them!! (broken hand)

You have to go around your house with a studsensor and mark that shit beforehand if you are prone to wall-punching fits of rage... lol
Rabbit braised in red wine with celery, carrots, and caramelized onions, with a big glop of creamy garlic polenta underneath to catch all that juice... OH. MY GOD. It's like an orgasm for your mouth.

Stardate May 14th...
Yeaaahhhh... it dropped down below freezing at my house last night... What The Fuck. It is fucking MAY. The MIDDLE of fucking May. I woke up to find the house at 50 degrees and my dog huddled up shivering on the sofa. Plants don't seem to mind though.
Anyway a lot has changed in my garden since my last post. Acutally, my life has been in a state of flux in general... Between a death in the family, my relationship going through a really intense growth spurt, and my friends acting even more self-destructive than normal (that's saying a LOT)... all I feel like doing is sitting in the flower room, the only warm spot in my house atm, and just watching the plants grow.
There's someone who deserves a HUGE thank you- you know who you are- the only person I can talk to candidly atm who can dish out sane advice on life as well as gardening, even after like 3 pots of coffee so strong it would send most people into freaking orbit. And who, in the last 3 days, has not only been the ear that I needed, but also booted my ass into gear and resolved the worst remaining problem with my garden. Mad props to you.
Anyway I am the proud owner of my very first ever air cooled reflector!!! Even hooked up kind of half-assed because I haven't cut holes in the walls yet, the max temps have already dropped 15 degrees, right down into the sweet spot of 78. Just a little more tweaking and I'll make it permanent.
I took down an Af x BOG, shown. Nice color, but not as purple as it had been before I went away and returned to find max temps while I was gone were over 100 degrees. Now it's just sort of silvery but holy hell are those buds DENSE, like rocks.
Teh plant shown on my kitchen island is an unknown BOG that is a retired mother and went into flower last night. I replaced her with a cut and expect to get a good yield off her.
I took 15 clones last night as well, 5 each of the following : Toxic Lemon, Yeags MTF, and a BOG. They look fine so far. I cut up my prop trays so they would fit into the dishwasher between uses, lol... I'm sick of bleaching everything!
All right, now for the big one:
I'm back to compost for flowering. AAAGH! say the coco- nuts. Don't get me wrong, I still like the stuff but the amount of abuse my plants take in flower, I really need the security of a humus-based mix. I'm running between 1/3 humus and cow manure, 1/3 coco, and 1/3 perlite, and 1/2 humus and manure, and the rest a mix of the lighteners. Not very precise but that's the beauty of the humus, you don't have to be. It's tough to fuck up.
In my little veg closet, I am still using coco. The growth rates are GREAT, it's clean, and in small pots they can be removed and stuck in the shower for a weekly flush and de-thripping, which they really seem to enjoy.
Oh, and I bombed the veg room with permethrin yesterday. Yay, nothing like chemical warfare against a 6 legged enemy.
The pics are fairly obvious as to what they are.
Hope you like my color-coordinated Japanese maple and Queen of Night tulips! :D

Wow, Foxy. Lots going on over there. I think everyone must be getting mighty busy in their lives cuz these boards have been at a snail's speed crawl for sometime now. I'm very sorry to hear about the family death. :( Hope all is well with you.
That new hood looks w00t! :) As do your clones and your little BOG harvest there. That looks sweet. Let us know how she tastes.
What gets me more is that Japanese maple! Nice tree there! Looks so much like Cannabis, it's freaky! LOL. I'd otherwise have to say NICE STALK on that MJ plant! LOL
So any updated pictures of your flower room?

Hi sweetie- wow, you are a grownup grower now, with that fine hood! Very impressive, as is that branch of bud- delish. I also love your aesthetic as shown by the tulips and Japanese maple. You have a grower's heart and a designer's eye!
This weather better not mess up my tomato and pepper plants:wtf:
I know you are going through a tumultuous time right now, so whenever you need to run away, just give me a call, come on down and hang out - the hot tub is always on!

Hey girl, I was replying to your thread as you were posting on mine!
Thank you re: my garden. That is my pride and joy. The front of my house faces east, and there is a large cliff directly across the street, so it gets only a couple hours of morning sun. The idea of that garden is a combination of shade-loving and native plants. I have a wonderful fern collection... they are HARD to dig up, lol, and when I go hunting I have to take a hatchet to break off a chunk! I bring back a bucket of the substrate as well and plant them with their 'feet' underneath the front porch to keep cool.
There are also some other really neat forest plants in that garden- trillium, jack in the pulpit, yellow spotted fawn lily, and then the more mundane astilbe and tradescantia. The tulips are just there for color until the ferns come up.
Speaking of messing up plants, Yeag called the other day about his own veggies- with all the rain everyone has been getting, the only things that seem happy are the tomatoes and tomatillos; most of the peppers did NOT take well to the run of wet weather the Midwest has been having.
lol Ima go check your thread now

Hello it's been a while then...
Postman, I'll be playing with some crosses and backcrosses over the next few months so expect great things! :D
The temps are beautiful. The flowering girls potted up with compost again are basking in the light- I added another 400w of HPS now that the temps are under control. Everyone is loooking good.
I started some skunk #1 and Northern Lights recently as well. And something else... although I will have to go have a look... oh yes, I remember what it was, it was a cross I made a year ago that the most recent generation had a pheno that stank almost like kerosene, and I am growing out a bunch of seeds from that particular female.
Why skunk and NL? Couple reasons... I need a good male, basically. My recent genetics acquisitions, the Kush, Afghani, and PPP are all in female clone format and I feel that having a couple males of VERY well stabilized strains is vital. To this end I also popped some more seeds from the Yeags Alaskan stock in hopes of a good male, as that strain is nice and predictably hardy.
I'm still having a hell of a time with the clones, since my mother plants are still stressed from my coco fibre misadventures... I'm not on top of things enough to give coco the attention to detail that it demands to really produce, and my pH was consistently FAR too high for that medium. Back in compost I'm free to water happily with unadjusted tap water, lol.
After a permethrin bomb and a few good spritzes of rotenone, I haven't seen a thrip in my veg closet in a couple weeks. Rotenone isn't the best stuff to be around, particularly if you are a thrip, but for humans either, so I basically sprayed, ran, and shut the damned door behind me, lol.
The five local cuts that I was gifted recently, the afghan and kush, are potted up in compost and growing very well- thanks man. They are still too small to really show their true structure but I will post pics soon to see if one of the old-timers around the boards can distinguish which is the Kush. Only one came with a label.
Well I guess that's the update for now. Seeya next time...

Okay here's some pictures.
The coco experiment is officially OVER. Too much bother. Everyone got repotted last night back into compost.
Here's a couple of the veg closet... got some nice clones in there and a really high-end and VERY expensive odor control system.
The plants on the top shelf are showing the lingering symptoms of neglect+coco, not a good combination. Basically my pH was way too high and micros were all locked out.
There's some from-seed plants too- a couple Skunk#1, a couple of my own cross derived from a similar line as the ones Shovelhandle has, but using a different mother who had even MORE purple in her but also came originally from a BOG medley, that's the one in the solo shot with the BIZARRE way it holds its fingers all together like that... very sturdy little plant though. And there's a SAGE X in there too.

I can only say you rock. Kinda blows that the coco didn't work out...I was hoping you'd be off and running with it.....and then I could copy. I like to ignore my plants occasionally so lesson learned for me, sigh.
I did want to point out I chuckled quite loudly when I saw that pine air freshner hanging in pic one. Tell all the newbs it works....tee-hee.
J/K everyone.

No really it DOES work.. right under a MH250, in the hot spot, it releases Royal Pine scent like a champ!!! Next time I am going to try New Car Scent, just for variety, lol.
I'm bummin about the coco a bit but the ability to run off for the weekend without risk of killing my plants is just too important atm as I am in a long distance relationship and need to be free to travel.
Okay: Let's vote on what kind of Little Trees Foxy should buy next!!!
Royal Pine
New Car
Cherry
Vanilla
Ocean Breeze
And any other flava I have forgotten...
Yeag, you are NOT allowed to say cherry, thx.

I think cherry would be a good choice....I made that decision before I saw the last line.........
I tried the stuff from the hardware store (industrial stuff), and I put it in my hot spot....but all it did was mask it and not all that great. Gosh darn it, bleep, now I'll have to try it to see how well it works.......My brother told me when he gets right to the door he can smell skunk a bit...even with the filter. I'm oblivious though, I can't even barely detect that fresh smell anymore...

My tenants have been whining... I'm like, bitches, I should be charging you EXTRA for the privilege of breathing my stank dankness 24/7. Ungrateful bastards.
I love that smell. You can only imagine. I want to walk around in a cloud of that wonderful pot-candy scent that gets released when you brush up against a nice sweet ripe Kush bush.. AAAAAHHHH drool... My ripening Hindu Kush is just so amazing, I go in there before bed and shake her a little, better than Yankee Fucking Candle...
All right, one vote for cherry. Gawd. The big guy fucks with me by using cherry chapstick and then trying to kiss me... but I'm getting smart, and too quick for him, lol! If it doesn't have a pit in it, it's not a real cherry. And tastes like booty.

Hi Foxy- poor chocolate- I love chocolate! How is the little PurePowerPlant princess? Hope she made it home safely.
I had no idea those little trees worked! When the blue haze and ppp were in flower, you could smell it when you opened the front door of the house! I shall stop by the car supply place and pick out some.
I always like vanilla (and chocolate!) but ocean breeze sounds very pleasant too.

How about pina colada then?
The afghanixbog grow is getting close to done. I was considering putting two outdoors after I cut all the top colas off. I put one of my earlier clone experiments outdoors a while ago and it's a midget! Just like them shotglass plants. Problem is, I don't know if I took the slips from a male or female? Well, odds are female anyway.
