some of you may remember i didnt vote in november because i am less than thrilled with how people get elected, and then what actually motivates them while they are elected. the bottom line was and stilil is i believe most people in government care more about just getting elected and holding their position than actually helping people out. I could get into more detail on this buut feel free to look up the old threads because i dont feel like having the same argument a second time.

well anyhow, all that said, i am happy to say i am going to see obama today. i really think this is a guy who actually wants to make a difference. also, he is actually honest about his personal life and past rather than trying to seem like a perfect human being. that is why john kerry was such a piece of shit, he tried to act flawless and no one could relate to him. and he tediousness rivaled al gore. obama admitted to smoking weed quite a bit in his younger years and even occasionally sniffing cocaine. am i saying that that makes him a better candidate, no, but i cant think of one person in the history of government who would have had the balls to come out and admit that. i really dont know much about his political views, i am assuming they are liberal leaning since he is a democrat, but i think i cvan actually get into the man. he thinks people are tired of the political runaround bullshit, and for me, he is absolutely right.

so i am going to go see him announce his canidacy for president today. i don't know how big a deal this is anywhere else but it is huge here. people are all excited because matt damon george clooney and oprah are reported to be milling around. i expect the place to be packed. i also expect it to freezing cold. either way if he ends up winning, and even though it is too early to tell i believe he is the favorite, i will have been at a pretty historic event.:pimp:

Have fun, Suhl! That's great you're going to such a historical event. I think Obama has great potential, and I'd love to get a look at Matt Damon, George Clooney, and her royal wealthiness, the queen Oprah at such an event, too. Be careful in that crowd and that cold! I'm going to move this to politics, although it's really more about your activities than actual politics. If I leave it here, another mod'll come along and move it later anyway.

It was a great speech. He has some really good ideas. He didnt really talk about the issues there so much as the basis of his campaign, which is that government has lost sight of its actual purpose, getting distracted with petty political bullshit. He talked about common people taking back control of American government from lobbyists and special interest groups. He also mentioned bringing back the unity in American politics(and whether you are one of the few people who still support bush or not, there is no way you can deny he divided this country in a HUGE way). His thoughts on ther problems with the government alone are enough for me to vote for him.

Issue type things he did mention was a plan to bring the troops home by March of 08(which I totally agree with, and i dont like the arguemtn well what would happen Iraq would fold into chaos if we left. Theyre in a civil war right now folks, how much more chaotic can it get for a country, that is basically the lowest point a country can hit.) and also he said he wants to push for universal health care(which i also agree with, people say it can never work but it is working fine in other countries, although it is hard too say if it would in a country this size, but really there is no way of knowing until we actually work towards it). Also a big thing for me was that he dint discuss any morral or family values type issues at great length. I believe those sort of issues dealing with peoples private lives shouldnt be a part of the government. this meaning things like abortion, gay marriage, religion, and so on.

He is a teriffic speaker too. Maybe it was just because i was actually there but there really was fire behind his speech. The crowd really got into it. I thought it was better than 90% of political speeches I have seen.

As for the weather i was fine but my toes got cold as hell and even started to feel numb.

Crowd was very large. I was about 200 feet away from the stage but I still had to shift around to see him. Apparently you had to have a ticket to get in so I had to sneak in, which in that sea of people was not very hard. In fact it was a matter of walking past the guy checking tickets and not looking at him. There were snipers all over the place too which is something I have never seen. I saw no celebrities sadly.

OBAMA FOR PRESIDENT IN '08

I'm sad I didn't go, but there was no way I was waking up at 10am on a Saturday.

As for the celebrities, I don't think any of those rumors were true at all. Some of the radio stations were talking about it, and they said that someone spotted an Oprah look-alike, when in truth, it was Obama's wife.

They also talked about what Obama ordered for dinner in the hotel last night, as the room service told him they'd literally cook him anything he wanted at any time. The man and his wife order in a pizza instead...

Gotta love Obama baby. ~

I just finished reading The Audacity of Hope! Obama is my man! He will be the man to bring change to this country!

If you have not gone to barackobama.com check it out. In his speech in Austin the other day he said he will introduce a bill to start bringing the troops home MAY OF THIS YEAR! You can listen to it on his website. He sounds so much like Kennedy and MLK.

One of the most important things for me about Obama is he was right when so many in our government were wrong or just went along saying nothing.

This is what he said Oct. 26, 2002:

"I know that even a successful war against Iraq will require a U.S. occupation of undetermined length, at undetermined cost, with undetermined consequences. I know that an invasion of Iraq without a clear rationale and without strong international support will only fan the flames of the Middle East, and encourage the worst, rather than best, impulses of the Arab world, and strengthen the recruitment arm of al Qaeda.

"So for those of us who seek a more just and secure world for our children, let us send a clear message to the president today. ... Let's finish the fight with bin Laden and al Qaeda, through effective, coordinated intelligence, and a shutting down of the financial networks that support terrorism, and a homeland security program that involves more than color-coded warnings."

Those words were spoken not in the U.S. Senate, but at an anti-war rally in Chicago. The speaker was not a U.S. senator, but Illinois state Sen. Obama. He began by boldly attacking the notion of being anti-war.
"Let me begin by saying that although this has been billed as an anti-war rally, I stand before you as someone who is not opposed to war in all circumstances," Obama said.
He spoke eloquently of the importance of the Civil War, World War II ("My grandfather signed up for a war the day after Pearl Harbor was bombed, fought in Patton's army.") and the War on Terror.
"After September 11th, after witnessing the carnage and destruction, the dust and the tears, I supported this administration's pledge to hunt down and root out those who would slaughter innocents in the name of intolerance, and I would willingly take up arms myself to prevent such tragedy from happening again," Obama said.
"I don't oppose all wars. What I am opposed to is a dumb war. What I am opposed to is a rash war."
What made Obama's speech rather remarkable wasn't just that his warnings proved true. It was that this was a state legislator who had developed a conceptual framework of how world issues are intrinsically linked _ that actions in one place can have far-reaching consequences.
So Obama urged Bush to fight terror by vigorously fighting for nonproliferation and the safeguarding of poorly secured weapons in the former Soviet Union (the Nunn-Lugar program, named for former Sen. Sam Nunn, D-Ga., and Sen. Richard Lugar, R-Ind., who would become Obama's mentor and partner in policy initiatives). He warned about nuclear war between India and Pakistan, and urged us to press Middle East allies such as Egypt and Saudi Arabia to ease repressive practices that turn citizens into "ready recruits of terrorist cells."
On that day, Obama ended his uncommon anti-war-rally speech not with a fist-shaking warning but with a heart-tugging reminder about who would pay the ultimate price for a federal folly. After warning us not to "travel down that hellish path blindly" by invading Iraq without global consensus, he added: "Nor should we allow those who would march off and pay the ultimate sacrifice, who would prove the full measure of devotion with their blood, to make such an awful sacrifice in vain."
Those who were in Chicago's Federal Plaza on that 2002 day heard a voice of experience that was neither heard nor heeded in a nation's capital hell-bent on fighting the wrong war.

The only thing is that most of the U.S. realize, or will, that we cannot let the second largest oil producer, the breadbasket of the middle east, be divided between Iran, Syria, Al-Quada and Turkey. We MAY back down to a supportive roll only but we surely won't leave it to the vultures.

The dude is just to far to the left but at least he holds his ground compared to Hillary. The dems have yet to find a legitimate candidate.

Have a good one!:s4:

You just keep telling yourself that...we have found our candidate. He believes in getting away from the big oil companies and their oil. They want you to believe that's not possible. Brazil has done it so can we.

So.... now you are admitting it was all about the oil?

Good to know. :)

Have you seen any of the articles in the mainstream news (NYTimes, Washington Post, Time, and Newsweek) about the contracts we're signing with the Iraqi government over that oil (and about how that plays into the delay/continuation of this war), BlueCat? France and England and one other country (I can't remember the third one) had agreements with the former Iraq government entitling them to take 20% of the oil for their help/support with extracting it. In the contracts the U.S. and others are currently negotiating, we're asking for 75%. Here's one link:

"Iraq's Deputy Prime Minister, Barham Salih, who chairs the country's oil committee, is expected to unveil the legislation as early as today. "It is a redrawing of the whole Iraqi oil industry [to] a modern standard," said Khaled Salih, spokesman for the Kurdish Regional Government, a party to the negotiations. The Iraqi government hopes to have the law on the books by March."

So the Iraqi government is for this...........

"Supporters say the provision allowing oil companies to take up to 75 per cent of the profits will last until they have recouped initial drilling costs. After that, they would collect about 20 per cent of all profits, according to industry sources in Iraq. But that is twice the industry average for such deals."

75% UNTIL they have recouped intitial drilling costs. Is that really so wrong considering what it will do for the Iraqi economy?

By the way, I never stated that this war was about the oil. I said that we can't allow these resources fall into others hands. Can you imagine the impact it would have if Al-Quada had access to even 1 mill/bpd revenues?

We walk out of there the price of oil would go through the roof. How much love would the average and lower income U.S. citizen love the Democratic party then? They talk the talk but know better than to walk the walk. Moderate Dems know this.......check out the Democratic Partys stand on the Iraq war. They DO NOT talk of pulling out troops but to redeploy them into training and logistics positions.

Have a good one!:s4:

the man is completely unelectable. most citizens seem to hit the polls with only a cursory investigation of the elements involved. they vote on generalities and appearances. when the voters hit the polls they are going to see obama's black face and his middle name and your average ignorant bumpkin is going to run screaming in the other direction. though a black president isn't out of the question, middle america is going to try and find any excuse not to vote for it and the muslim taint surrounding obama is just what they need. combine those factors with his far left tilt and the fact that he isn't considered black enough to secure the substantial minority vote and you begin to wonder what fool convinced him he has a snowball's chance in hell of occupying the oval office.

though i would love to see anyone but another republican clone in the office in '08, the dems are doomed if they can't find anyone besides clinton and obama. their socialist agenda already has "mom and pop back on the farm" scared shitless and if they can't find a more mainstreamable candidate soon we'll end up with another 4 to 8 years of big business as usual and i'm not sure we can afford much more of this hawkish crap.

oh, and nice to see you're back in action cat. welcome home.

It's a fact we do have a lot of prejudiced assholes in this country, Bong is one shining example, but I'm hoping the collective intelligence is at least 50 points above Bongs and sees the advantage of an Arak Obama as president. The man is intelligent and has a feel for the pulse of the country. Everyone but the most hardline hawks want to pull out of Iraq, they know it is a never ending war. Those radical islamists will fight to the last man. We need to figure out what they want and work with them. I realize there are some that will never change, but those will be killed in time, let them fight each other, we don't need our blood and treasure being wasted over there any more. I still say to all the right wing hawks, "put on your guns and go to Iraq and kick some ass", get it out of your systems, If it doesn't cure you, maybe it will kill you, either way, the country would be better off!

...even those the government believes they have taken away from me.

the only problem you have with my statement is that you know i'm right. though you would like to believe that the voting public is intelligent and well-informed, the reality of the situation is just the opposite. just look at w's re-election and you can see how america voted with its anger and its fear instead of following an intelligent course. for every voter who follows the facts there are ten who either blindly stumble along in their party's wake or vote for whoever has the nicest hair. i didn't opt out of the american political scene, i opted out of the illusion that the choices we are given are the only choices available. i opted out of an institution so polarized that it is no longer capable of performing its most basic functions.

That is fine Del, if you want to opt out..it is your right to do so and I have no problem with that. I do have a problem with anyone that does not participate in their country's legislative policy speaking out against ANY candidate. If you don't participate you should NOT participate at all. You have chosen not to be involved in the democracy of your country. So sadly by not voting you have made your opinion worthless as far as the democratic functionality.

Yes the country voted out of fear for George Bush and I do agree that democracy in this country came dangerously close to failure but now the pendulum is swinging the other way. Enough people are worried.

The people of Moveon.org worked really hard to change the way people in this country involve in politics. They have become the largest grassroots political group in the country and by harnessing the power of the internet they were able to pull people together and got the voters motivated. I made 400 calls myself and 2 public speeches and many of my friends became involved for the 1st time in their lives.

Trust me I am the first person NOT to trust government. I believe the Salvadorian option was used in Iraq so that the country could be divided and their oil taken from them. I am sure of it. So I want to see the leaders responsible brought to justice. This can't happen by doing nothing.

Change will only come about when people get angry enough and care enough to participate.

I really hope you will change your mind and take part we really do need you. :)

perhaps you misconstrued my earlier post. obama's background and political tilt are not what i was criticizing, but the tendency of the masses to make important decisions based on purely cosmetic reasoning.

as for worthless opinions:
there ain't no such animal. even the most brain-dead, narrow-minded, self-important simpleton may have some bit of wisdom to impart. opinions are merely information given from a particular point of view and, as such, they are all are worthy of being heard. if you choose to ignore the opinions of those you deem unworthy of your attention you may lose the opportunity to gain some potentially valuable insight that your narrow view of the world has left you blind to.

Dude, you're seriously crazy! Blacks have been oppressed and you want to play that card?. There are Chinese churches, Polish churches, Mexican churches, Assyrian churches, Lebanese churches, and more... all in America. The thing about Blacks is there was this little thing called slavery where Blacks were torn from their homeland. Wouldn't it be quite difficult to join the church of Ghana if you don't if that's where you're from? Blacks unite together to celebrate and discuss a common life experience. FAITH :: ARVADA, COLORADO (http://www.fbci.org/aboutus/aboutus.html)

Our Purpose

We are a family of faith with a single purpose; we want to honor God. The purpose of Faith Bible Chapel is to honor God by:
-- Acknowledging the Holy Spirit in all we do --
We value prayer and continually ask God to lead us in our planning. He shows us the needs of people, the opportunities for service to Him and gives us specific ideas to keep our church active and fresh. It is His church and we want Him to shepherd us all.

-- Bringing people to Jesus and to membership in His family --
We have been blessed by God. God loves us and will give us His life! We work to share the good news with our next door neighbors and with people around the world. We want to be a blessing to others and to help people find a relationship with Him for themselves.

-- Celebrating His presence through worship --
It is refreshing and energizing to express joyful praise to God together. We encourage active participation in singing and other expressions of worship to God as a key part of each of our meetings as a church family.

-- Developing people into Christ-like maturity through the Word of God --
The highest goal for a person is to grow continually into the character of God Who made us to be like Himself. We study the Bible for practical advice on how to continue to change so that we fulfill His purposes more completely. We want to be fresh in our experience of His life in us.

-- Equipping people for their ministry in the church and life mission in the world --
We each have unique gifts that we can offer to enrich the experience of God by every member of our church family. We share a common mission to reach others with a clear message of God's love and power so that they can enjoy being in God's family also. Training and opportunities for everyone to serve God actively are always present.

There are groups that promote whites. Like Irish-American, Polish-American, and Italian-American groups who hold parades for their ethnic identity! If you're saying that if a guy promoted just whites in general, well yeah, that's something different. That's called white supremacy and I generally hate those people.

These black churches and other organizations are not trying to displace the white man. They're seeking equality.

Of course there is the Nation of Islam and the Black Panthers, both of which are derided all of the time by Blacks and Whites alike!

Republicans scare me!!! ahahhahah

I wouldn't say that...I know just as many idiot liberals who think their 'side' is actually going to fix things and isn't for the most part, part of the establishment elite's agenda...

'Liberals' can't understand how 'conservatives' like George Bush, but then I see "liberals' that don't understand their leadership is just as corrupt, they just use different angles to attack our constitution and sovereignty...

'Liberals' love Bill Clinton as much as 'Conservatives' love George W. Bush - and both 'sides' are equally delusional...Clinton was an unconstitutional tyrant...

But what I see more and more of is people finally realizing that both parties are the same, and are working together like the mob to destroy the country...

The close mindedness of Bong30 is scary. This is why we must take our country back. He is indicative of the millions of this breed of grossly uninformed conservatives who have yet to pick up a book or investigate an issue. They are simply filled with hate and misunderstanding.

It is time for the next generation to stand up and fight against this ignorance and scourge of cancer in our country!

LMAO! So what does that actually mean? In order to host the Presidential debates the news agency has to lean to the left? I suppose we COULD just let Ted Turner and his ex-wife choose our next President for us.....

Fox sucks as well......

Anne Coulter is a disgrace...Im a moderate that can lean towrds the right in some cases, but I like to stay in the middle and go left when I feel my right are getting cramped, all in all I try to avoid politics if I can...
