you can add as much perlite/vermiculite to bring the ratio up to 50%. I personally like to have a little bit less perlite/vermiculite than that because i find the soil holds more water without it. Have you used this sunshine soil before? I just potted a few plants in it so I wanted to know how it is.

I use sunshine#4 and it drains great while staying moist. My 3glpots get watered 4L every six days.

i have 4 hindu kush in 1 gal pots in veg right now. i thought the soil could use at least a little more perlite.other than that i really like it,i'm getting ready to transplant just wanted some suggestions from people who use it.this is my first time using it , i've been using ocean forest in the past.just getting tired of guessing how much food left in the fox farm soil.

ya i would put perlite in it if i were you. i put some worm castings in mine, along with some lime to help balance the pH, as the sunshine mix is quite acidic as it's peat based.

Curious about what other people have found w. SunShine#4. I water when it's dry 1-2 inches down, a friend who uses SunShine as well says he waters the second the surface of the pot begins to dry and he gets great results.

what pH water do you guys give your SunShine? I've always done 5.8-6.0 with no problems, running into some problems vegging with a new strain and I'm being told by some people I should be running my pH at around 6.5 using SunShine #4. Can you guys comment?

I water WHENEVER the surface starts to dry out. My PH runs around 6.3

I did add perlite and wormcastings to mine and was generous with each...

This stuff drains great and holds moisture well, so far so good! I pull any day now! :rasta:

I am new to using Sunshine #4, and I am having some major problems. I am experiencing some cal, mag and iron deficiency. My pH going in is 6.3, but my runoff is at 4.9. What should I do to get my pH up? I just did an experiment and tested the runoff of #4 with pH of 8.0 going in, runoff was 5.5.

Any suggestions?

Just did a few more experiements with some fresh water, hydrated lime, and fresh sunshine #4. It took 8.5 in to get runoff of 6.0... i have some flowering plants that really need some help asap. im scared to go from 6.3 to 8.5, what should i do?
