I was wondering how important your make up is to you. Me when I go out in public I dont have to have my make up on but I feel better if I do. I know some girls who wont leave the house without it. Also what kind of foundation do any of you use. Im wanting to make a switch and dont want to end up buying something that will make my face look orange.

About makeup...I used to be one of those who wouldn't step out to get the mail without my face on. I'm 37 and have 4 kids now. I don't give a damn anymore LOL! I feel better if I have it on, naturally, but I don't have to have it on to leave the house anymore.
For foundation, I use Bare Minerals. (http://www.bareminerals.com/) It's good for your skin, and really natural looking and easy to use. It has built-in SPF 15 sun protection too, so no wrinkles or cancer! It NEVER turns me orange, and I have really hard to match skin. You can blend shades together to get the perfect match.
Against my better judgement, I'm going to post a pic of myself here so you can see.

I rarely ever wear makeup. I went through a phase in high school where I wore black liquid eyeliner everyday.
I look back at pictures and wonder WHAT IN THE HELL WAS I THINKING?
The only time I wear makeup now is if I am dressing up or something...and even then I hardly wear any.
Makeup is a lot of fun...but I don't wear much. If I do wear it ill wear like blush and mascara...and thats it.

Oh also I own CARGO foundation, and it fucking rocks. Kind of expensive but I bought it a year and a half ago and have way more than half left still.
I also have cargo blush, and I love that stuff...
..and I have MAC mascara....
All good.

DAMN greenjeans ya don't look a moment over 20!
I just really like a good moisturizer... just started using the Olay touch of sun (has a little self tanner in it) to get rid of that winter paleness... I can't stand foundation so it's SUPER important to have good skin!
I wear a baseball cap a lot and when I do I make sure to put on eyeliner so I don't look TOO much like a dude, lol.
And lip gloss IMO is better than the whole fuss with traditional lipstick.

:s2: Oh I could just kiss you!
And I agree, moisturizer is sooooo important, although I'm not very picky about what type, as long as I'm not allergic to it. I usually try to buy something with SPF15 or higher. I spend a lot of time outside (I'm a camping and fishing nut), and sun can really mess your skin up. It breaks down collagen and all kinds of horrid stuff. Although I have to admit, I look better with a tan. I turn downright yellow during the winter.:silly:

I use a LOT of makeup. I wasn't raised to wear it though, I figured it all out on my own. Maybe because I'm 17, I feel I need it. Haha, anyway..I wear Almay foundation, CG powder, Prestige black eyeliner, MAC eyeshadow, shitty wal*mart blush, i forget my mascara and i don't wear lipgloss or anything, I use a little foundation and blistex lip infusion.

I love Bare Minerals! I got some at Christmastime after trying it with some friends back in November. I love the stuff. I don't wear much makeup, but I love the way that stuff looks. It sort of glows. I have very oily skin and it's great for that, too. Very light. Doesn't seem like you're wearing makeup at all. A good many years ago, I saw a makeover show on Oprah and they were advising that as you get older, it's better to wear less and less makeup. I agree. Less is more. And that's why mineral makeup works so well because it's not like a liquid layer on your skin.

I've worn makeup for a million years, and when I worked as a model and actress it was essential. Now I can actually go out to the store without makeup and feel only a little bit naked :) since who gives a damn at my age!
I am currently trying to find a mascara that doesn't flake! I must have 10 tubes of mascara and every one flakes. The best I've used is Dior but it is so expensive, I'd like to find something else. Any suggestions?

Yep, that's me all right. I guess I'm just used to looking at myself. Thank you all kindly. But this isn't "Stroke Mrs. G's Ego Day", so let's get back to the makeup thing.;)
I agree, less is more as a person ages. Some makeup will settle into lines, or draw attention to things that you don't want noticed at my age LOL!
That's why Bare Minerals is so nice. It's light, and yes Birdgirl, you're right, it glows. When a person ages, cell turnover slows, and skin looks dull. Bare Minerals helps give you a glow all the time.:)
BTW Birdgirl, I hope you're feeling better.

from a mans point of view............
honestly while make up can improves ones image it is not necessary to use either, i prefer a woman who needs no makeup, one who is confident enough in her own looks she doesnt require it.
most women dont need it, and those who use it often use to much, why hide such a already beautiful face with garbage.....

I like using powdered concealer over light face lotion if my skin is ultra blotchy...
Might use eyeliner and a hint of shadow and mascara once in a while.
But for the most part, I hardly wear any makeup.

i wear very little makeup...usually just mascara and one light colored eyeshadow- usually somethin bronze and shiny.
i even go to school without any makeup on sometimes!!
the real reason i dont wear a lot is cause im lazy. lol.
as for facial products- i just invested in that 3 step system that Clinique has out- it works wonders and is totally worth the investment. your skin feels soooo soft and dewy

Ya, I generally go the makeup less look, but maybe twice a month I like to throw on makeup, and then it's just tan eyeshadow, mascara, and Powder Palette's green makeup. I love the green because it evens out my skin without having to resort to foundation or other powders. I used to have horrible acne and I couldn't leave the house without a millimetre of foundation... which gets really gross six years later. So now that I've finally got my skin cleared up, I'm just so happy to be able to run around without foundation I hate to put the stuff on.
DroPrincess: I found the key to covering blemishes with liquid foundations isnt the foundation but the applicator. Fingers don't work, nor do the wands that come with the some tubes of coverup... you need triangular makeup sponges (pardon me if you already have them and are doing this). Put on foundation with the sponges, and right at the end, before you set the foundation with powder, dab foundation over the blemish with the corner of the sponge.
I'll look into Bare Minerals makeup... I love makeup even though I rarely wear the stuff! Cheerio!

lol goats I know that was a typo but still lol!!!
Foundation makes me break out, no matter what sort I try, so I stick to self-tanner to even out my skin tone. For some reason it doesn't bother my skin.

That's one thing that the powder Bare Minerals doesn't do very well is make a concealer. They may produce some sort of liquid or cream concealer now, but if they do, I haven't yet seen it.
The best concealer I've ever used is called Lancome Photogenic Correcteur (they do love to give their products foo-foo French names!). It's a non-oily, almost powdery, very solid cream that comes in a little jar with a black lid. It has a yellow tint to offset the red in blemishes and the duskiness of dark circles. It has those light-reflecting particles so it helps deflect some of the attention from the blemish. There are other "correctives" on the market, and I've tried them all. This stuff beats everything I've ever tried, and my sister agrees with that assessment. You apply it with your finger or a cosmetic sponge or Q-tip and can thin it out with moisturizer, too. I use it on dark circles. I used to have a lot more use for it on blemishes before I began using another great product to clear up my broken-out middle-aged skin, Proactiv solution.

Have you tried Bare Minerals "Well Rested" for eyes? It has the yellow tint. Also Bisque Multi-Tasking for Face. These are both powders, but provide coverage for concealing. The trick with BareMinerals/BareEscentuals (I swear, that's how they spell it) products is selecting the correct brush. When I need more coverage, I use the Max Coverage Concealer brush. When I don't need as much, I use the Light Stroke brush. I really like brush application because it gives me more control, and is easy to blend.:)
I wish I could afford Proactiv. From everything I've heard, that stuff is miraculous!

I bought some of that Well Rested stuff and have the coverage concealer brush, but it still doesn't give me enough coverage on those circles. The Bare Minerals rep at the Sephora store even showed me how to do it and used moisturizer there under my eyes and put the Well Rested powder on top of that. It just looked sorta cakey and crepey and the circles still showed through. I had a nearly unused jar of Well Rested that I ended up giving to my friend Karen, who found it worked fine for her needs. It was after that that I decided to keep using the Lancome correcteur under my eyes.
Right now, with my circulation not in tip-top shape, I pretty much need to soak in a bathtub full of Well Rested to achieve the desired effect--or maybe have it made into capsules and take large daily doses of it! Thanks for the welcome back earlier, Mrs. G!

Yes, I've always had OCD about my skin too- very compulsive picking, obsessing on flaws, etc. It is a really rough thing to fight- Prozac helped, but now that I am off that I am just trying to use behavior modification techniques. It's really a weird disorder, isn't it? It's just come out of the closet over the past ten years I believe. Before that it was mostly a silent shame.

its not the sun that causes skin caner....its the lotion. sun brings toxic thigns to the surface of your skin....it just so happens that when you are all old and gross and wrinkley and look disgusting from tanning its cause your toxic...not because of the sun.

I'm afraid that all the information out there among cancer researchers and dermatologists contradicts your information, Amun. It's UVA and UVB radiation from the sun that sets the cell and genetic changes in motion to cause cancer. This is fairly common knowledge.

I also teach critical thinking to college students, and so I am intrigued by your bizarre statement. Where did you get this information, or did you just have a wild idea? Do you believe what you are saying is true, or is it just something funny you wanted to throw out?

Im another Bare Minerals user. The biggest difference to me (Bare Minerals vs other make up) is that it looks natural. People have no idea Im even wearing make up. I bought the make up to try it out but what completely sold me on Bare Minerals is after I bought it I had people tell me that it didnt look like I was wearing make up but they could see that my skin was smooth. The DVD said "it gives you coverage without looking like make up" for me that was true.

Mascara: Lancome (AMAZING)
Lid Primer: Origins (helps the shadow stay on)
Eye Shadow: Prescriptives liquid, Lancome powder
Eye Liner: Bobby Brown (it's in a jar, apply with brush)
Cheek Color: still trying to find one I like
Lip Gloss: Origins (peppermint flavored)

I would like to reiterate this. UVA causes aging and UVA/UVB cause skin cancer. There is a STRONG link between sun exposure and cancer.
BUT, toxicity ALSO causes wrinkling and aging, so the best thing is to be careful what you put in your body AND wear sunscreen.

I like Blistex better than Chapstick, which is too waxy for me, but I can hardly find the stuff anymore. It's the perfect consistency for thinning and blending lipstick, too. I keep some Blistex in my purse, at my makeup table, and by my bed to put it on before sleep. yeah i never leave the house without make-up on even if its just to the local newsagent, tbh i think it just gives you boast in confidence because i like some of the looks i get when i get down the street, 2 of my guys mates have said that i do still look fit without makeup but i just dont see it because am not really that confidant and plus tbh when i look at myself in the mirror without make-up on i dont feel like am looking at myself

I learned some of that from my first exhusband, a Brit. The only thing drier than his humor was his mother's potroast.

Mrs. G- you are starting to freak me out a little- MY first exhusband was a Brit too! First the titty bars, now the exes- don't tell me your ethics professor in college hit on you too..! ;)

When looking for a good lip balm, look for ingredients such as...
natural oils: sunflower, hemp (duh), olive, etc.
natural butters: mango, shea, cocoa.
try to avoid occlusive moisturizers such as paraffin, beeswax, or petroleum. These things will lock in your natural oils but they won't soak into your lips and also they will leave that nasty residue on your pipe and glassware (and on your boyfriend's lips).
I like blissful bath. bath & body essentials (http://www.blissfulbath.com) the best, but you can also find them at your local co-op or Whole Foods or Wild Oats.

I have rosacea (excessively red cheeks, nose, and chin)... so I have to wear makeup.
I think I've tried a million foundations, and my favorite is Laura Mercier. Her line of foundations are amazing and have enough "yellow" in it to help counter my discoloration. :)
Of course, I usually end up using eyeshadow and mascara since the foundation is already on... :) :) :)
I envy those women who can look great without makeup... I'M JUST NOT ONE OF THEM! ;)

Check out Badger Balm if you can find it.
I am in love with the highland mint, and the lavender orange.
It's all natural and mostly organic too.
I get it at the local farmer's supply.
I have that stuff...just used it right now.
I have chai flavor..it tastes like fruit loops.
but I don't think it works that great.
Burts bees and alba work the best for me so far.

I am perfectly comfortable leaving the house with no make up on, so long as my hair is brushed and not all greasy. I used to have a shower every morning and put on at least a little make up, but as time went on i just didn't bother. Now with a new baby it's a whole different story. I need to plan out and start early if I want to shower and put on a little make up, so needless to say I've kinda given up, but I do try to make the time every few days, atleast for my husbands sake, oh and to get a little sex, lol.
Even when I do where it I only use eyebrow pencil, eye liner, masscara, and some lip gloss, I've always been a believer in natural beauty and like to compliment flaws, cause at the end of the day the person who matters most ends up seeing you with none on.
As for chapstick Blistex rules!

I have rosacea too, but my cheeks only (the ones on my face) I never found it a big deal, some people are actually jealous of it,

I agree it's not the best for treating chapped lips, carmex is my #1 choice... beeswax, menthol, and lanolin... instant ahhh... but the badger balm is so nice and soft and yummy I even use it in summer when I don't need it.
