Okay, I am going to try keeping a growlog. Mind you, I was never one of those girls who kept a diary or a journal...so I don't know how diligent I'll be about this. I currently keep track of my growroom activities on a mousepad with tear off calendar sheets.

To give anyone reading an idea of where I'm coming from/going to: I'm not much of a smoker, I get really paranoid and can't relax. My fiance smokes a hella lot, and we're buying a house, so we've started looking for ways to economize. So I got a wild hair up my heinie and threw some bagseeds from some smoke he particularly liked in a paper towel. Next thing I know, I've got a wee little 4 plant garden.

Particulars: Closet grow. Less than 4 square feet.

Lights: 4 26W Daylight CFLs 1500 Lumens/ea. Additional tube fluoros mounted on walls for side/ambient lighting
Temp ranges: 72-80 F. Generally stays in the lower end.
RH averages 45-50 percent
Water temp 70 F, has a large airstone running in it, good pH.
Flat white paint on walls
Haven't really done much in the way of nutes yet. In a panic they received a low low dose of Miracle Gro yesterday, up until then all they'd had was a light epsom salt solution and plain water.
Homemade CO2..yeast, sugar, water
Good circulation, boosted by one of those fans that you stick in the window.
They're 4 weeks old from the time they broke dirt. You know, I really didn't think they would make it this far. Now that they have, I'm kind of bewildered. They consume a lot of my time and attention. I'm obsessed with them.

I had to go out of town for a week, and they were left all alone. Here's my thread (posted in the wrong spot) about that, with some pics.
http://boards.cannabis.com/basic-growing/100631-need-rescue-tips.html

I guess that's all for now.:p

Okay, after being traumatized for a week, the kids are perked backed up again. No more droopiness, and I've got the temp and humidity etc. all straightened back up. I've got a grow buddy stopping by this week to let me borrow a 400W HPS. He's on gardening sabbatical right now, so I get to put off actually purchasing a light until after I do this harvest and decide whether I want to continue down this road.

Going to be transplanting into final containers next week, so I got them ready...washed and sterilized, just need to drill drainage holes. I'm using the 3 gallon buckets that kitty litter comes in. Reduce, reuse, recycle. And the square shape makes it easier for me to utilize my limited closet space.

It's time for me to get some sort of odor control set up as well. Right now it's not an issue, they're just pleasantly pungent. You actually have to be in the closet to smell them. But before it becomes an issue, I'm going to make one of the DIY neutralizers I saw on here.

Okay, I think that's it for today.:)

Mrs. Greenjeans

Whoooooo. That changed. Seemingly overnight, it smells like Pepe LePew has taken up residence in my bedroom.

I'm impatient. I'm going to transplant the kids today. This will entail rearranging the closet setup. Pics will follow when I'm done.

BTW, suggestions are welcome.

Okay, since some of the other ladies and I were comparing how ghetto our setups are, I am posting pics.

Witness, the clean bras hanging in the corner! Gaze in shock at the kitty litter pots! Squirm in horror at the gooseneck desk lamp holding a 26W CFL! Cringe at the soul destroying nightmare of cords hanging everywhere!

For mature audiences only.

In other news, everyone has been repotted. And I need more light.
And what's with all the little leaflets sprouting low on the[attachment=o116545]

lol we all have those... the ones you run out and buy at 11:30 at night from the 24 hour pharmacy chain because that's the only thing open.
But the best pic is the one of the boob holders. hahaha

I was desperate to dry the bras, and it's always warm and breezy in there.;) Now my boobs are gonna smell skunky. See, I have ulterior motives. The aroma will make me more attractive to cats and my sweetie. Everybody wins!:D

I made one of those DIY nutralizers and it works great so long as you keep it topped up with febreeze, it takes a bit but when it's going the whole house smells fresh.

I finally programmed my light timer, after reading the Lights Out thread in the grow FAQ. Sorry, I can't remember the exact name of the thread. If anyone needs me to, I'll hunt it up and link it. Anyhow, the kids are now on 20/4 to promote root development, so I can LST them without pulling them up by the roots. LOL. I'll leave them there for the next 2 weeks, and if all looks good, I'll flip them to 12/12.

They really responded positively to the change. The temp dropped significantly, both outdoors and in the room, making the room around 66F. The 4 hours it was dark, it was cool and slightly over normal humidity, about 55-60%RH. Now today, everybody is standing tall and perky, with leaves outstretched (not droopy), and looking much happier.

Okay, that's it for now.:)

Picking up the 400W hps from my buddy today. I'll keep track of how that works out. I expect it to drastically raise temps in the closet, so I may have to come up with a new ventilation plan. For the lights etc. that are currently in there, the ventilation is fantastic, but I can see it becoming not so fantastic very quickly with the hps in there. I think I have a plan though. (insert maniacal evil scientist laughter here). Where I live is colder'n a witches tit in a brass bra. My plan is just to run flexible duct tubing (like for the dryer) in from my bedroom window and into the closet. This will give me passive intake. Cold ass passive intake at that. The closet has two outside walls, and when the temp drops outside, the closet gets rather chilly. I've been known to keep beer in there. So I think it'll all work out.

What else...Oh yeah! Since I've repotted and gone to 20/4, I've seen explosive growth in no time. I'm going to have to raise the lights, and I just raised them 2 days ago. I'm also seeing more side branching. As soon as I get the hps hung, I'm going to LST. Wish me luck. Pics later.:)

I got my light today!!! Much less ghetto in the closet. But now I have to scramble and hurry to do my exhaust. It's about 15 inches above the plants, and the ballast is outside the room.

Hi AD! Thanks for stopping by!
Unfortunately, I can't get any pics of that. They didn't actually come from clones, I was just being goofy for the sake of the song. They come from bagseed of some smoke that my honey really enjoyed, and he smoked dat shit up! LOL!

Hola! Yeah, they were freaking out last night because I turned off the CFLs and the fans to maneuver the new light into place (that damn thing was bulky and HEAVY!) so they were without light and ventilation for like 30 minutes, and they got bumped around a little and upset. They're standing tall and pretty today.;) I'll get some more pics up later.

Mrs. Greenjeans
02-05-2007, 06:14 PM
Okay, well even with the new light, it's still only 80F in the closet, so that's a good thing. I found a different place to put my air intake (one that's not obvious to outsiders, and I'm going to vent into the roof by going through the spot where the current overhead light is. I'll make a DIY carbon scrubber for that, and the DIY neutralizer as well, just to cover all bases.

Everybody is loving the new light. Their little green arms are outstretched, little green faces turned up to the sun. Happy little trees.:rasta: The nicest part is, my buddy is letting me borrow this light indefinitely. As "rent" payment, I have to give him clones. He doesn't want to sell it, in case he decides to start growing again. But I can keep it as long as I need it. So cool...that's one less expense. It's good to have friends.:D

Well, now that I've got some of the hard work done, I feel like I can browse around and check out the other girls' logs. I've been so busy I haven't really had a chance.

So I live in the midwest, where temps are currently in the minus double digits. Schools are closed because it's actually too cold for the kids to attend. So what am I trying to find?

A frigging fan. Naturally.

Needless to say, the DIY neutralizer won't be getting built today. I'm going to go out tomorrow and pick up some used computer case fans, and wire them up following a tut I found online, with a cell phone charger. I was trying to avoid this. I hate fucking with electricity, even small voltages. I hate being shocked with a passion.

The upshot of all this is, I wasted a LOT of time today, so the LSTing won't get done today, and I have heartburn, and my feet hurt from walking around Target, and Lowe's, and Radio Shack, and Wal-Mart, and Staples blah blah blah. Then to make matters worse, I get home and it's 86 motherloving degrees F in the closet.

If these things don't go hermie, it'll be a miracle.

Hey, I'm in the same boat. I can't water my ladies, cause school's out...please don't die on me!! I got my new light this weekend, and have also been looking for a fan....I found them at HomeDepot but it is online only. Bree

Oh, you hiding your grow from your kiddies? LOL, I was too, but my 8 year old busted me. She went in my room to run the Bissel sweeper thingy, getting up all the perlite hahahaha! She followed the trail to my closet and bang. Then my 5 year old was curious about why I kept my closet light on, so now she knows. They just don't know what it is, only that I have plants growing in my closet, and they're not to talk about it to anyone.

Bree1978

Whew! What a week it's been! Where to start? Well, I don't have my DIY neutralizer built yet, but I did get my carbon filter built. Thing is, I either read the directions wrong or bought the wrong parts or something. The parts I bought were all too big. So I ended up using aluminum tape (or as I call it "90 mile an hour tape" to make the thing. You can take the girl out of the ghetto, but you can't take the ghetto out of the growroom, especially on a limited budget LOL!

I bought two used 8cm computer fans for my intake and exhaust. These move 92cfm, and my closet is 107.6 cf, so it's all good.
I made a hole from inside my windowseat, where it's always really cold, for my intake, and another hole about 5 feet above that in the back of a built-in bookshelf for my exhaust.

I'm able to keep the closet door shut and maintain temps of 80F. Still not ideal, but the best I can get right now. It's only for a few more days anyway, then I"ll go 12/12 which will help a lot with the temps. Right now they're on 20/4, and the temp peaks around hour 18. So 12/12 will help a bunch.

And oh yeah, I've got one plant that has given me fits from the beginning. It's always trying to die, and I'm always pulling it back from the brink. I bet it's a boy. Only a man would give me this much trouble. I'm posting a couple of pics of it. It has spots on it. I looked in the International Cannagraphics guide, and it looks like either boron deficiency, or burning from the light. What I don't understand is, this plant is actually further away from the light than the other plants. It's just being a little green pussy. I'm going to check pH today on everybody. They all look a little heat stressy, but I'm going to check pH anyway, just to be able to rule it out.

I LSTd everyone. I may have to re-do it. I was tired and grouchy and didn't do the best job.
Okay, that's it. Let's go to the pics.

Checked pH on the kids. As follows:

Asshole Plant (aka Jordan) 6.9
Lily 6.9
Pat 6.8
Gloria 6.9Didn't check runoff, as today was not watering day. Ordered more computer case fans from eBay. 4 for 8.95+S&H. 120mm(12cm)(5in), moves 92cfm. Cleaned and repaired a fan. Talked sweet and breathed on them alot. Adjusted some ties. Oh yeah, FIMmed one of Pat's tips. He/she/it was getting out of hand. Put 4/5 fans on timer as well. One off timer, runs continually. Low temps hit 60F with lights out, so have to figure out a way now to keep temps a bit higher during dark period. Humidity very low, 34%RH. May need to add humidifier.

No wonder my breakers trip. I have a million things plugged in inside that closet. It probably glows like a lite-brite on thermal imaging. My electric meter is spinning like a CD;)

That's all for now. Tomorrow I need to seal some hairline cracks around the doorframe where light is getting in.

I'm so sleeepy.:stoned:

I'm having a really hard time maintaining temps and humidity. I had to order parts for my humidifier, and they probably won't be here til Monday. It's 25%rh in there right now. I keep getting shocked everytime I bump into something metal, which is frequently in that tiny space.

I added 4 26W daylight cfls as supplemental side lighting, but it made the temps shoot to 90 in 4 hours, so that's out the window. And it still gets too cold in there during lights out.

They've already grown past the edge of the 4 gallon buckets, and are growing upward, just in 3 days, so I'll have to untie them, probably tonight. That means I'll have to raise the light a bit too, as untied they are too close to it.

No obvious signs of sex yet, but I can see pre-flowers forming in the calices. My magnifying glass sucks. I need a more powerful one.

They were bone dry, so I watered. They really suck down the water with that hot ass light going, and the fans running all the time. I added a big floor fan. I positioned it right in front of the intake, to pull the cold air up and blow it at the plants. Anyway, I watered, using 1/2 (half) a tablespoon of molasses to 2 gallons of water. They drank every bit, very little runoff, maybe 4 oz. from each plant.

Did a little research, and found out the average pH of my city water in my particular neighborhood is 7.8. The pH of the largest part of my soil mix is 5.5. When I check runoff and soil on my plants, it hits at 6.8-6.9. So they must be balancing each other out.

It's "night" for them right now. I keep lights out during the day, to control temps, since it's naturally warmer outside and in my bedroom during the day. So, no pics until later, after midnight.

We close on the house next week. At least that's the plan now. I believe we're supposed to go in Friday the 16th to cross the final Ts and dot the final Is. Once we do, I have to go to the new house, and map out and start setting up my growroom so that when we move, it's ready to receive. I hadn't counted on us moving this soon. I was hoping we wouldn't move til after harvest. Now I'm worried about the effect transporting could have on my plants. It's cold outside here, and I'd have to move them at night so as not to disrupt their lighting schedule. ::sigh::

It's always something.
That's all for now.:hippy:

lol, not quite. Canadian tire is a... a mans store. Of course it has the automotive section, lots of tools, outdoor stuff, camping/fishing stuff, lighting, pet stuff. like a mans Walmart! that's it. I went searching across the city for fans and Canadian Tire had a whole aisle.

As for your heat/cold problems I don't know girl. You have to keep the closet closed right? If you could open the door a little and bought a little tower fan($20 Canadian tire) it could blow air in the bottom and force hot ai back out the top. The cold problem might require a small heater. as for the humidity don't worry about it and cancell those parts you have coming. As you get farther into flowering the plants take up more water and transpire more. I started with 26%RH and now am up to 50%.

Mrs. Greenjeans
02-12-2007, 12:54 AM
Aaahahahaha! A man's Walmart LOL!
I keep the door closed because of the smell, my kids, and the cat.;) I don't really have to keep it closed. I just prefer it that way. Also, the closet is near a window, and with the hps on, it looks like God is standing in my closet.:D I tacked up a dark purple blanket over the window though, so that helps.

Thanks for the info on humidity. I was getting worried. It seemed so desert-like in there, all dry and windy. Which is why it's perfect for drying lingerie. ;)

I went into a Staples and they said they had no fans at all. They literally laughed at me and told me to come back in the summer. I ordered 3 fans off of their website and they were delivered the next day.

This little $20 one is great for a cab: STAPLES Business Depot | BUREAU EN GROS (http://www.staples.ca/ENG/Catalog/cat_sku.asp?CatIds=&webid=488077&affixedcode=WW)

Since you have temp problems at both day & night have you considered changing your light cycle so the lights are on at night instead? You could kill 2 birds with one stone. I am seriously considering doing that, especially as it gets hotter over the next several months.

I just could NOT solve my temp problems quickly. So I took the plants off the stand they were on and put them on the floor. They're on a piece of carpet with padding underneath, and plastic on top of that. I just had to put more space btwn them and the light, and raising the light wasn't going to work. I just hope they don't stretch all to hell. To try to combat this, I'm going to add the cfls back into the equation. I untied them as well. They've been tied down for 7 days.

Here's hoping this solves my high temp issues. Now I've just gotta work on my low temp issues.

do you use co2? i have a little bottle with water sugar and yiest in there i read it somewhere you can also put baking soda and vinegar its cheap ways of co2:) im also going to foliar feed them in about 1.5 weeks with guano and stuff. you could buy some guano and put it in with ur water. i heard if its used a week before flowering - a week into flowering it gives off huge results. hope those girls start showing soon :)

Hi Whisky:) I've got fans galore going in there right now. I'll post some pics in a bit.
I was using the yeast/sugar method for CO2, but the low temps in my closet kill the yeast. I was having to make a fresh batch every day, and now I"m out of yeast and snowed in.:(

mrs green, what proportions do you mix the yeast/sugar/water? i'm experimenting now, got a tbs of yeast, 2tbs sugar, 4oz of water...

i'll help you with temps when you get the pix up. i have battled heat. many times. i am the victor :D you shall be too ;)

Mrs. Greenjeans
02-14-2007, 12:38 AM
KP, I put about 5 cups of water in a milk jug, 2 cups of sugar, and one packet of yeast. Then I put a hole in the milk jug and put a tube in the hole, um, it's about an inch around. The jug sits on a shelf above my plants, with the tube pointing down, since CO2 is heavier than air. I found the "recipe" on the net somewhere.

It works, but sometimes it gets messy if the mixture gets real frisky and bubbly. And when my temps drop below 72F, the yeast dies.

Thanks for stopping by KL! Yeah, now we've got sleet and ice on top of snow. So I'm not sure how much longer we'll have power. This happened 2 years ago, and we were without power for nearly 3 weeks. Hey green geens if the power does go out to keep your photoperiod going you can just hang a flashlight in there or light a candle. If we can see the light they can pick it up. So just don't fuck up the schedual. I'll do some more reading for you about emergency situations and see if I can find anything else for you. Your plants are looking good and 81 isn't a bad temp. In my flower room we get up to 83 without being stressed. Just take care of those kids first if the lights go out.

Okay, after my panic about having males, kp set my mind at ease. It's too soon to panic:D

Nothing much to report today. It looks like Vietnam in my closet. Greenery everywhere! Everybody seems happy, although judging by the top of the soil, they are in need of a flushing. I'll try to get to that tonight, after "sunrise". I'll take pics then too.

I am getting no sleep. Since I have my plants on "day" when it's actually after midnight, I have to stay up until like 4 am every day. Then I get up at 8am to get my human kids off to school. And of course, since the rest of the world does business during the day, I only get to take naps. I would like to sleep a whole 6 hours in a row. That would be tits.:p

The mortgage company hasn't called yet. Dammit I want to sign on that house today! I need to get busy constructing my grow room!!!

My grow log has turned into sort of a growlog/socializing room/confessional/diary. Interesting. I thought I would just post pics and facts and figures in this. I didn't expect to have become involved in the social aspect of CannCom, at least not this quickly. It's fun:thumbsup:

Okay, that's all for now. I have really really bad cramps. My evening primrose oil is packed. Why did I do that? :wtf: I guess I though we'd be in the new house by now. I think I'll take a hit off the old man's blunt and lay down with a High Times.

Mrs. Greenjeans
02-18-2007, 09:53 AM
Well actually, they are girls. Hooray! I went in to kill the males. Gave them their propers, told them thanks for growing and whatnot. As I leaned in to grasp Jordan's trunk, I glanced over at Lily and there was her little pube!!!
So I chopped Jordan and Gloria to have better access to Pat, and lo and behold, Pat is also a girl! :yippee:

I got so excited, I took like 16 pictures. It's hard to tell in the pics, but believe me, they are hairs. Little glistening white unmistakable hairs.

I know I shouldn't, but I'm going to clone Pat. She's not a girl. She's a broad. She's healthy, easy going, and if she was a person she'd be a loudmouth, dope smokin', beer drinkin', hard lovin' hooker with a heart of gold. It's early in flower, so I'm gonna do it. Besides, she's huge! I need to take a cutting just to keep her under control. I FIMmed and LSTed her about 2 weeks ago, and she's still climbing up the wall.

Lily on the other hand is just like the little girl she's named after. She's demure and well behaved, never gives me any problems, but sturdy and easy to get along with. She sort of flies under the radar. And she's pretty and symmetrical.

Okay, enough mama boasting. On to the pics!

Chopped 2 males. Remaining plants female. Watered and fed with Schultz 10-52-10, quarter tsp. to a gallon of water, added a tablespoon of molasses. Used distilled water this time for some reason. Oh yeah, because everyone is asleep and the sink is noisy. Anyway...Lily and Pat each took 1/2 gallon of water. 2 litres to you Canucks and UKers.

Temp still higher than optimum. Need to remember to buy yeast. I keep forgetting when I'm in Kroger. This time I'm buying a big ass jar of it, instead of those puny packets. Stinky, will you draw me a pic of an ass jar? I'll print it out and take it to the store with me.:S2:

I cut the males up into little pieces with scissors, and shredded the leaves, and now my hands are so smelly I want to roll my finger up in a blunt and smoke it.

Hi Mrs. G- your girls are soooo pretty! Now you have even more time and space to attend to the ones who will provide the bounty!

Okay, I heard you talking about the milk jug and sugar and whatnot. Can you post a pic of that? I am thinking about making one. I know there are lots of things I should do to increase yield/potency- what should I absolutely do, and what can wait?

Next question- odor control. I know you made something to fix that, could you post a pic when you get the chance? I know people have talked about them before, and I will look up the directions, but I also like a picture to visualize.

I want to do as you did and take another clone or two from one of my girls, 2 weeks in flower. She is so full it shouldn't hurt.

Sorry to be so full of questions:jointsmile:
It is fun to grow with you- say, once this all becomes legal, let's all buy a big parcel of land, call it cannabiscounty and grow - the breeders could all get together and develop fabulous strains, such one that doesn't cause munchies, yet enchances all other senses, and tastes like dark chocolate :D and we could have "tastings" every Friday night in the community room.

Sorry, I went off into fantasy:silly:

hey demeter, the co2 jugs are easy, i'm using crissy's formula; 5 cups of water, two cups of sugar, on packet (or two tablespoons) of yeast. mix well, or shake, put in place, shake once or twice a day. works like a dream.

Hey Demeter!
Here's a pic of my jugs. AHAHAHAHAHA! I've been waiting to use that.
And my ghetto carbon filter that I made with 90 mile an hour tape. There's a pic of it earlier in this thread too. Here's a link to the tut here on cdot for making one the right way:D
http://boards.cannabis.com/growroom-setup/90173-how-carbon-filter.html

As far as what can wait...what do I know? I'm a noob. LOL! But odor control is definitely tops on the list. You want to keep your security as tight as you can. < that's the security guy.

CO2 is debatable. If you have good ventilation, you can get by without it. But it does increase yield, and your plants will tolerate higher temps with CO2 supplementation.

I like your fantasy. Especially the part about a strain that doesn't cause the munchies. I ate so much the other night after I smoked that I had wretched killer heartburn that woke me up out of a sound sleep and kept me up until 6am. It sucked out loud.

If I don't have any large jugs - lol, how true - can I use tupperware, something tall with a lid? Have tubing, and bought all the fixins yesterday.

How many of these do I need for a room that is 8'x4'x6'? I have three big girls flowering now, but there will be as many as 8 in the future. Right now I have tomatoes and peppers taking up space, but once I can move the food garden outside, there will be space, and I am thinking of getting another light- ladies, any votes? I have one HSP 600 now in the flower room.

Hubby has to stop working long enough to help me set up the vent system through the rafters, maybe Monday. Today I have to grade papers and walk on the treadmill to offset my munchies- the last of the Valentine's candy!

It's hard for me to say how many you need. It depends on your ppm of co2 in your ambient air. Since you probably don't have a meter (I know I don't) I would say at least two. More won't hurt. And yeah, your containers are fine, it doesn't have to be a milk jug. I'm just cheap like that.;) The only jugs I've ever bought are the ones on my chest. LOL!

I'm saying a little prayer for you on your house closing......I know how stressful it is. We had our home sold last July and the kid dropped out the day before closing.....:( The sad thing is, that made us drop out of another house we were supposed to close on.....We could have taken him to court, but that's not my bag. We decided to add on instead after that, lol. GL, and I hope it goes well, and update when you can, I'm sure they look loverly. Bree

Awww, thanks Bree. I'm just frantic. I don't feel like doing squat. I'm even afraid to keep packing, in case something doesn't turn out. My house that I'm in now is a total mess. We're wearing the same clothes over and over, just washing them everyday, so we don't have to unpack. There's boxes and crap everywhere. I'm smoking weed like there's no tomorrow, and when I first registered here at cdot, I was smoking maybe once a month. And I'm sleeping a lot during the day, which is what I do when I'm feeling depressed and overwhelmed. bleh.

Actually, I can't remember what all I'm about to post, but the pics themselves have text on them to identify them.
Okay, just so I can keep track of myself...
Food/water/molasses Thursday night. 1/2 gallon each, but only about a tablespoon of runoff. Time to adjust watering amount.

Temps still too high. Quel suprise.

Looking good, but Lily is still too droopy for my liking. Pat is monstrous compared to Lily. Going to raise Lily's pot so she can get some more light. Pat is a pig. Pat is tall and rangy, Lily is shorter and bushier. Some of Pat's fan leaves are the size of my hand.

Took 3 clones from Pat, 2 clones from Lily. I know, I know, but it's still early in flower. I'll reveg them as long as it takes. Sitting in the flower room right now, because I don't have a separate veg area, being as how I am in between two houses. I'll find them someplace semi-permanent in the morning before lights out. Right now they're resting comfortably under a 23w cool white cfl, on the floor of the closet, where it is a million degrees fahrenheit. I made them a cute little bubbler out of a plastic Folger's can covered in aluminum tape to keep out light. I have not the faintest idea in hell what I am doing. Wish me luck! BTW, my medium for my clones is some cat litter made of silica crystals. I called the manufacturer, they assured me it was inert. I got it at Wal-Mart for I think 3.97USD. It has micropores (like perlite) to hold water.

The shirt is my own design. It's a rough workup. Obviously.;)

Stupid Pat has grown up into the light. One of her leaves has light chlorosis and is limp and hanging. Poor Lily is still short, even though I raised her pot up on a box.
I have to physically pull them out tonight, and make some adjustments. I'm going to tie Pat back down. She's just out of control, and raising the light in the present setup is difficult, to put it mildly.

Watering tonight too, no nutes, just H20, molasses and epsom salts.

Sprayed the clones with Wilt Pruf the other night. (Did I already mention this?) anyway, they are doing well so far. Very green and looking just like they did two days ago when I cut them. In other words, they haven't discolored, or gone wilty or anything negative. I can't wait til they root! I'll be so excited. Then I have to beg for money to buy some Fox Farms dirt.

In non-cannabis news, I have to repot one of our ordinary houseplants, let's see, what kind is it...a gold cappella schefflera. We got this at Home Depot cause it was cheap. 10 bucks for a nice big plant that we figured would look nice in our new home. We bought a golden pothos too. We think plants make a house look like home. Well the damn thing is sick and shocky. Leaves falling off like mad. So I'm going to repot it tonight, spray it with Wilt Pruf, and put one of my fluros on it, since it's been sitting in a dim corner ever since we brought it home. I hate moving. We've been so busy it seems like we don't have time for squat.http://www.plantlife.ie/shop/images/Schefflera%20Gold%20Capella%20web.JPG

LOL! Mmmm, gravy...

Speaking of wet, yep, I think one of the kids "helped" mama by watering the plant. When I looked in the pot it was standing in an inch of water, and smelled like sulfur. But that's not all. It was so potbound, that the roots had actually grown up out of the pot and wrapped around the base of the plant like a bird's nest. What I thought was a fancy decorator wicker planter was, in fact, plant roots. I trimmed them, and scored the rootball to help it break free. If it lives, I'll be impressed. I pruned it too. In for a penny, in for a pound.

Mrs. Greenjeans

I BROKE PAT!
As mentioned, she had gotten so far out of pocket, that I was going to tie her back down. Well I never made it that far. As I was taking her out of the closet, she bumped her head on the hood of the light, and bent! The top 6 inches just went "doink" at a 90 degree angle. Luckily, she didn't snap clean through. I would have cried, because that's the biggest cola on her. So I just sort of gingerly puuussshhhed her head back upright, and left her the hell alone, only bothering her to give her a drinkypoo. She's holding her head up on her own though, so that's good.

I still don't know what to do about getting her away from the light though. I may have to attach a string farther down on her stem, and just sort of lean her away. I'm kind of at a loss. Let me take a picture, maybe someone else will have an idea.

***time passes***
Oh yeah, she is 27 and 1/4" tall from dirt to tip, and what, 3 weeks into an only god knows how lengthy flowering cycle. This was anonymous bagseed, so I have no idea what strain she is or anything, only that she looks to be sativa dominant. With my luck, I got hold of some strain that's best suited to outdoor growing by swarthy men in camoflage, who have all the room in the world to grow a 10 foot plant with a decade long flowering time. hmph.

Oh right then, this is supposed to be a grow log, not a bitchfest. They both took 3 quarts of water. I suspect I have a manganese deficiency. Correction, I suspect I have a manganese lockout, caused by a surplus of magnesium. Of course, I came to this conclusion after I had watered them with a dose of epsom salts and molasses. Aaaannnd, my soil pH is 6.6. Now, my water pH is frigging 8. So now I need to beg for money for some adjuster. But the furnace in our new house doesn't seem to be working. So I think getting money for pH Down may be challenging. I would borrow it from my mom, but I don't really want to tell her I need it because my pot plants need help LOL! Argh. This is becoming a frustrating week.

That's all for now. Here's the picture of Pat trying to escape through the roof.:wtf:

Mrs. G- Sorry about Pat....I snapped one that came back, it was small and certainly not my biggest cola. Also, check carefully, I saw on FOG TV that a plant snapped like that and hermied later.

I've been using real lemon juice for ph down (in the green bottle in fruit section I believe). CHEAP! Might help until you get the professional stuff.

One last thing about that schefflera, thier roots do that. It doesn't necessarily mean it's potboud. They form arial roots (think bonsai). This means it's happy and healthy! Trimming them back was a good thing, they do get out of control. These plants tend to rip up foundations, sidewalks, and plumbing when grown outdoors in tropical climates. I thought mine was rootbound when I got it from someone that was moving out the country...but when I repotted it, this was not the case. In any sense, they can take a lot of pruning when they are healthy...Hope your little bugger does well! ttyl, Bree

Its funny how we had the same problems... expect my broke clean off an hour or so ago and its sitting there crying with the bandages hardly holding her together I can't see what I'm doing. I went to change my LSTing after I got a hold of Invison in the chat, sat down in my closet with the black light on and then the fan got knocked over which then fell directly on the newly applied LST string. Heavy fan and not so strong plant = snapped in half. I think there is something in life out to get me at this point its ridiculous.

At this point if all is lost I'm just gonna take 20 clippings and try and make clones... I have no seeds and no money for anything else blech

Boink! Hey, Mrs. G. Just got a chance to catch up on the thread. Hope Pat does ok. Like Bree said, I had an issue with a snapped top cola.

Pics:

1 - The plant at start of flowering (about 3 weeks in) - considering using this pic as an avatar...

2 - The plant right after it had been snapped and re-righted and bandaged with elecrical tape (look at electrical tape)

3 - 15 minutes after Pic #2. :(

4 - That cola took quite a while to overcome the shock. It was at least a week or two behind in growth compared to the other colas in the closet. It did end up beefing up...but then...!

5 - It went hermie. This could have had something to do with other environmental factors, but since none of the others went hermie, plus another test clone of this same strain flowered without hermies, I definitely think that snapping the meristem (thanks canuck) was a big stress factor that caused the plant to go hermie.

Keep an eye on Pat. Daily. Beware of the evil that is hermaphrodite plants. :o

The clones look cloney. Not much to tell. I'll take a pic later and put it up. I'm being good and not checking them for roots every 5 minutes. I just stuck them in the bubbler, misted them with Wilt Pruf, and let 'em alone.

Not being able to get in the new house sucks, because I can't set up a grow area. I wanted it set up and ready to rock so I could just whisk my girls from one house to the other. I didn't count on a layover at my mom's.

I know one things for sure, I'll be growing what ever strain my dad grows, cause my cousin got some off my uncle and told him he bought it off my dad and that shit fucked me up. Don't Fret...... My Cabinet gets around 90 Degrees some days and I still end up with 50% females and no hermis.

My avg temp is probs around 82 to 84. Espically when its dark perioud for the plants up top 12/12 and I can't open the Cab doors for the bottom thats runs 18/6

And wiring is easy. Just make sure you look at the Voltage and the Amps.

So If the Fan says, 12V DC 300mA

you need a power supply thats atleast 12V DC 0.3A

If you wanted too hook up 2 fans like that you would need 12V DC 0.6A

It ok to have more Amps than you need but not too much more. for example

I run three Fans on one power supply the Fans are 2 X 12V DC 300mA and one 12V DC 200mA

So the PS is 12V DC 1A so that still leaves me with a small bit of room for one more 200mA fan if I like.

Its pretty easy,, never Mix AC and DC currents, Most fans are DC (Direct Current) You'll be in big trouble if you do that.

Good Luck

No prob kd. Actually, I found your info useful, as I had been wondering about hooking more than one fan up to a power supply.

This was the best I could come up with. I actually tilted the light. Which kind of works out.
edit to say : oh yeah, and I leaned Pat's big cola back a bit, and tied it to the shelving.

looking good. I want to try some of Pat when she's ready. . .

Hey, this is a random question but, Is it ok to put a clone under 12/12? Will it start flowering? I heard that it won't flower without roots. Any thoughts?

My plants are slowly catching up. I think I had it to cold in the closet during my dark cycle with a fan on. So I am going to try it without the fan. This does mean no air flow, which might end up bitting me on the butt. . .

Damn dude, you still awake? HAHAHA!
As for putting a clone on 12/12, I think I read somewhere they should be put on a vegging light cycle. Not sure though. One of the other girls on this thread could tell you better. I have mine on 24/0, because I took them off a flowering plant so I have to reveg them.

It gets down to 60 in my closet. I don't think it's hurt mine any. I do have my fans off though. They don't process CO2 without light anyway.

If you wanna try Pat, you gotta fly to the midwest. I just got back from Cali last month, and I"m not eager to be sealed in a tube breathing other people's germ laden air anytime real soon. I had a killer cold from that trip.

Midwest? I'm driving to mid texas in the begining of april? I don't really like planes either. I love driving, so any chance I get to take my car somewhere I'm there. I think it's going to be like a 20 hour drive, I plan on chopping it down to 15. Although I do want to make a stop for some greens on the way. . .

I want to put it on 24/0 but I don't want to scew it up with the light change. Plus, I don't really have anywhere to put it with good ventilation. I rented this apartment not thinking about the future. . .

Edit: I'll sleep when I'm dead.

By midwest, I mean one of the states that is one of the original 13 colonies, and is east of the Mississippi, but they insist on calling it midwest anyway. Hmm, think Great Lakes region instead.;)

What cycle do you have your clone on now? Also, I don't know how good my ventilation is on my clones. They're in Papi's closet, so they could have their own light times. I have the door standing open. That's about it. I go in there a couple times a day and talk to them.

it's on 12/12 now, but I guess I could move it to my other closet on 24/0. I had it like that but I thought I saw mold forming in the dirt so I freaked.

Edit: S.S. I'm really just lost on the whole clone thing. . .

NOOOOO!!!!! DON'T CHANGE THE LIGHT CYCLE!

your clone will grow roots, take a cutting, reveg that. you have everything to lose and nothing to gain by taking your plants out of their death cycle.

edit: ok green, we'll see ya later then; gotta work a long one today, so i don't know when i'll be home... just look for me ;)

I know, stupid innit?
I mean, I suppose back in the day of the original 13 where I live would have been considered the midwest. But the times, they are a changin'. Shit, they done changed. You'd think the nomenclature would have been updated.

No pics today. My batteries are charging.
I fed with veg ferts today. Too many yellowing leaves. It was interesting. They looked happier within the hour after their meal and drink. pHed my water with lemon juice (thanks Bree!) to a perfect 7.0. Note: 1/8 tsp. to a gallon of water drops the pH one point.
Some pistils are pink from the CFLs that I supplement with. It's neat looking.

2 of 5 clones are beginning to show roots. Oddly enough, Pat doesn't seem to clone well, despite being so vigorous from seed. Lily's clones seem to be doing better. They are all a little droopy, still bright green for the most part, with some yellowing due to rooting.

That's all for now. Pics later.:)

KL, try the bubbler. I was talking on IM one night to kp, and she suggested I try making one. Then I remembered that Treetops uses plastic coffee cans for his hydro system, so I just made my bubbler out of that. Total cost was around 10.00USD.

I am not feeling my plants right now. I feel like I'm hitting a point of diminishing returns. The fucking things won't stop growing, they look awkward and offend my sense of symmetry.

I suppose it's not their fault. I should have flowered them sooner. They are getting bigger than either the location or the light can really support. This makes caring for them difficult. I can't maneuver in there.

My clones aren't cloning. One has a solid root on it, like a taproot. The rest, not so much. I still don't have a shotglass. grrrr.

I don't feel like taking pics or anything.
