View Full Version : Eyedrop...Any long-term problems with daily use

I use Clear Eyes almost exclusively. And multiple time per day;)
Does anyone know if this could be risky. I mean, are there any negative long-term effects by using eye-drops? When I was young...a friend of mine's dad had used too much nasal medicine and it fucked him up real good. I would hate to be blind in 20 years or something! Anything would be helpful....thank you and take care.

Yes dude, I screwed up my eyes already from using Clear Eyes(redness relief) for a few months nearly daily.
Now, even after a year, even just 1 use of it for me, I'll get rebound. The rebound is I get clear eyes, but for days later a blotched piece of my eye is red and I can't see as well if I use them now.
So for me, I just have red eyes, it's fine, they feel fine.

Thanks...I've used them for years and daily. I have noticed a red splotch on my eyes at random areas on occasion. And sometimes, after not dosing my eyes for say 5 hours, they'll well up and start watering and turn all red. Like in the middle of talking with somebody. Not cool. I can't stop using them now because I'll look SOOO blazed when I don't drop. Anybody know of alternatives to eye drops in eliminating redness?

yeah they would probably not be good for you every day. just put them in if youre real baked and you need to go to an important meeting or something, or if youre sure that youre gonna see your parents, etc (if you still live with em that is).

Oh no, 420izzle, you have permanently fucked your eyeballs.
"For years and daily"
-My pops did the nasal decongestant thing daily for 15 years, and lost his sense of smell for 30 years and just now it's beginning to come back.

My personal opinion is that your eyes will now always get red and watery for a long time until your eyes can function normally again. Even after that point, don't use eyedrops anymore.

well it sound s like you used them to the point that your eyes became dependent on them. the most i use the stuff is multiple times a day for proabbly two weeks at a time maximum though it has been up to a month. i also switch it up between clear eyes and visine and generic because i think at least two of them have different active ingredients though i could be wrong. and if i dont absolutely need my eyes to look straight i dont use them

I use opcon-a which is more expensive but definitely worth it. it used to be rx only. one drop in each eye will give you movie star-white eyes for several hours. clear eyes sux. you might look at it the same way as dank bud vs. shwag. you need to inhale less of the quality stuff to be stoned, excessive shwag smoking can mess up the lungs. in the same sense, using clear eyes frequently could be irritating compared to the occasional need to use opcon-a

Sigh, well hear is the information.

NEVER USE ANY REDNESS RELIEF FOR YOUR EYES

It works by constrincting the blood vessels in your eyes, causing less and less oxygen to be able to get to your eyes. Some vessels can even collapse on theirself.

Opcon-A is what my ophthalmologist recommends for allergic redness/itching. It burns, but it does work.

Way of the Leaf, I've often wondered where you get your facts. They're so frequently wrong. Vaso-constriction does indeed shrink blood vessels, but collapse is a very rare occurrence, particularly with over-the-counter opthalmic solutions that target tiny capillaries.

Yeah, I use Opcon-A as well. Burns a bit, but works very, very, very well. I usually keep them in the fridge. Putting in freezing cold eye drops when you're high as hell is like an orgasm on your face.

EDIT: You got fucking owned by Birdgirl, lol. :D

Thanks Y'all! I'll try the Opcon-A. I went without today and I've had a handful of people in the office ask if I'm okay:)
i just answer that I'm fighting a cold...;)

have you ever used Rohto-V????
BEST eye drops you can use, period. nothing beats them. after using rohto-v i couldnt use clear eyes anymore it made my eyes sting and shit...

rohto is soo nice, its like minty kinda when it goes in your eye... realllly cold and refreshing.. and if you put them in the freezer for a little bit.. AMAZING

they clear your eyes hella fast too, they make them look 'normal' not clear but glossy, they are amazing and work instantly almost, about 30 seconds-minute to kick in

I went and picked up the Opcon-A. It did the job...especially after the lunch break I had. Wicked good....mmmm. I have been a clear eyes fan for a loooong time. Me and her go way back. I was most concerned about the health affects...and this at least looks like it's better for me eyes. That roto looks real cool...but $$

I may have to try that Rhoto...y'all make a convincing case. This Optiva-A is good stuff. Before, when using Clear Eyes, I'd have to drop every 4-6 hours to stay clear (if I was smoking). This morning after dropping the Optiva-A, it burned and cleared right up and I haven't needed a refresher since!

To Birdgirl: Take one drop of any vaso-constrictant and put it on your tongue. Actually try and get less than one drop, like just put your finger tip into a drop of it and then touch it to your tongue. Then tell me that long term use isn't going to mess with you eyes.

I accidentally got a drop into my mouth one time and holy shit, i didn't think anything could be so nasty. I would rather drink straight up leaded gasoline than fucking clear eyes.

Like in that movie wedding crashers, where they put it in that guys drink. Thats just simple eye drops but if ingested can actually kill you and if it doesn't you will be stuck with life long problems like 50% of the time.

I found it really interesting how it also gets into your nasal cavity, if you're like me and you drop from the bridge of your nose into the inside white part of your eye then you should also notice that some of it gets into your nose.

Very sucky. Since your tear ducts or something on the inside part of your eyes is connected to your nasal cavity it drips into your nose! I don't notice it as much when i actually drop them in instead of bridging it.

Hey, I never said long-term use wouldn't cause negative effects. Let's be real clear about that. What I said was that an ophthalmic solution that causes vaso-constriction in capillaries wasn't likely to cause vascular collapse. If you want to take issue with what I said, you need to make sure you're reading me clearly.

I don't advocate long-term use of vaso-constricting eyedrops, nor, I expect, do any eye doctors. My doctor recommends Opcon-A for occasional use during allergy season for me.

Nah your post was way more helpful than mine, you are right though. I pick up lots of information and it mixes with stuff. I should put in my sig that my stuff shouldn't be taken seriously.

Thanks Wayoftheleaf and Birdgirl. Both y'all gave helpful info. All y'all did...and I thank you. I'm using the Opcon-A (called it the wrong name yesterday - doink!). I like it and am cutting down on the use. I've just used it always to hide my eyes, so now they rely on it or I look BAKED. Not good for office or home. Thanks again! I'll let you know over time how my eyes hold up.

i would also HIGHLY recommend rohto v however do not use them if you wear contacts. i have 30 day/night contacts that i can leave in and after a month of continuous rohto v use i literally had to peel my contacts off my eye. really good eyedrops, but theres a warning on the box about using with contacts :)
