In Washington, the new Class of 2007 will be sworn in at the Capitol, and for the first time in more than a decade the Democrats will be in control of both houses of Congress.
It is a major shift in power on Capitol Hill that could now challenge the authority of the White House.
As the 110th Congress prepared to take the oath of office, President George W Bush made an appeal for congressional unity.
"We've all been entrusted with public office at a momentous time in our nation's history and together we have important things to do," President Bush said from the Rose Garden on Wednesday morning.
"It is time to set aside politics and focus on the future," he added.
DEMOCRATIC PRIORITIES
Minimum wage/ Does this include wages for illegals or are we just going to shoot more citizens out of the job market?
Stem cell research/ BEST OF LUCK! I really hope they can get this one done!!
Energy/ Should be interesting the position they take on this one
Student loans/ MAYBE when they quit giving $32 million (http://www.denverpost.com/broncosheadlines/ci_4945127) for football coaches they will give students relief
9/11 Commission recommendations/ Will there be a change? Should prove interesting
Ethics of Congress/ LMAO!!! Ethics in Congress? That's like finding a virgin working in a whorehouse....

I do wish them the best with the Stem Cell Research.....this is way over due!
Have a good one!

Bend over Dubya... ya might wanna lube cuz this is gonna hurt.
Ethics of Congress/ LMAO!!! Ethics in Congress? That's like finding a virgin working in a whorehouse....
This is the most important one. Mexico, Russia and every other third world country are so fucked up because of corruption. If we keep falling prey to it we're gonners. Time to turn the whorehouse into a upscale, self-respecting brothel at least.
9/11 Commission recommendations/ Will there be a change? Should prove interesting
Let's hope heads will roll.
Student loans/ MAYBE when they quit giving $32 million for football coaches they will give students relief
good point...
Energy/ Should be interesting the position they take on this one
git'r dun
Stem cell research/ BEST OF LUCK! I really hope they can get this one done!!
Amen! (but maybe I shouldn't use that term since it's the Jezoids blocking progress)
Minimum wage/ Does this include wages for illegals or are we just going to shoot more citizens out of the job market?
Make's ya wonder, doesn't it..

Damn Hamlet.....did we just agree?? LOL:D
There are alot of good issues on the plate but I'm really hoping that they go after the stem cell research. I think at this point that he house and senate could actually bypass a presidential veto. We'll see........

No godammit, I'll never admit that!
Actually, if history repeats itself, the dynamic is set for progress when the power is balanced like it is now. We haven't done jack in the last forty years beyond cell phones and the internet. If we want to survive, we need to shake our asses into the future just as fast as we can get there. Stem cell research is the future.

Ok you have to admit those are some damn good ideas....
Lets tell it like it is!!!
In their first 100 hours of control on Capitol Hill, the chief Democratic goal appeared to be to make good on Ms Pelosi's pledge that this will be "the most honest, ethical, and open Congress in history".
A new raft of ethics proposals - a conscious attempt to do away with the climate of corruption that surrounded their Republican rivals during November's elections - stood out among the six bills that will be tabled over the coming days.
The rules, which go beyond earlier Democratic proposals, forbid outright the use of corporate jets by politicians and impose further restrictions on gifts and travel paid for companies and other outside interests.
The proposal also suggests considering the establishment of an independent panel to monitor the behaviour of Congress, a move previously resisted by both parties.
Many of the proposals, particularly those aimed at gifts and travel expenses, appear aimed at correcting abuses performed by Jack Abramoff, the former Republican lobbyist sentenced to five years and ten months imprisonment for bribery and fraud last year, and Tom DeLay, the former Republican House Majority Leader.
Damn straight Git r done!

Halliburton, the CIA and big tobacco companies are among those identified by top Democratic staff to ABC News as the likely targets for investigation by Democrats in the House.
HAPPY DANCE  HAPPY DANCE
cutting interest rates for student loans from 6.8 percent to 3.4 percent!
passing the remaining 9/11 Commission recommendations
increasing the minimum wage to $7.25 an hour
allowing federal funding for embryonic stem cell research
Health care reform....
NOW they better END THE WAR!!

i would like to hear a little more details about what they want.
Energy-- do they want to move to green?
9/11--- are they following us "nut jobs" and our theories?
stem cell- ?? for organs? i'm not up to date on this one
Student loans-- it's hard not to have a loan when it costs 30 000 a year...

I know they are trying to get farm funds for ethanol and to set mandatory limits on GHG emissions by the end of 2007.
And producers of solar power, wind power, geothermal power and other alternative technologies are expected to receive new tax benefits
As for 9/11 first they are going to implement the rest of the 9/11 commision proposals....
which would require private companies to prepare for terrorism and the government would have to inspect cargo on passenger planes and shipping containers leaving the largest ports. Airport screeners would be given whistle-blower protection, money would be set aside to develop technology for detecting explosives at checkpoints and an appeals process would be established for airline passengers mistaken for terrorists on watch lists.
As for student loans the interest will go down...see above
The stem cell bill would reduce restrictions on federal funding for embryonic stem cell research.

Energy! here's my question. When an internal combustion engine will run on Hydrogen (the propellant) and Oxygen, basically is that not water? so to make it work, all we have to do is separate them and feed them back into the engine at a certain ratio, thereby propelling the car down the road and emitting water out of the exhaust. Is this not the perfect solution to the energy crises as the planet is made up of 2/3 water surface area, NOT, the energy companies long ago put the kaibash on this one. I recently saw a news show in Vegas where this dude had made a device to do just what I've described and they were going to come back the next day and explain how it worked! Being extremely interested, I watched that stations news for a week, every newscast, and never saw another word about it. Sound familiar. The energy companies know the secret and have paid big bucks to keep it. Hydrogen is highly flamable, it would make a perfect automobile fuel, but how are the energy companies going to make money if you can stick a garden hose in your fuel tank, and drive off? When the oil supply gets to the point where they need it to make other products, like plastics etc., then we may see some kind of Hydrogen fuel, but you can bet your bottom dollar, we'll never see the garden hose trick!

Hydorgen fuel's been around for a while Medicinal.... well at least the idea. The problem with it is that the energy needed to separate the hydrogren from the oxygen is enourmous, and thus takes tonnes of energy production before creating enough hydrogen for a less-than-equivilant amount.

They can dismiss hydrogen because of the technology involved. But there's not a reason in the world that the Gov. should be paying farmers not to plant when cars can run on alcohol. ...and I'm not talking this 10% bullshit either. I guarantee that's Exxon's influence using those billions to keep their product in demand.

A lot of people need to understand that oil and gas is our energy source! If we stop using them we need a new one.
Hydrogen and Ethanol are both energy mediums (like a battery) with might make personal vehicles possible after were done with fossil fuels.
As well they use the hydrogen fuel cell, not a internal combustion engine.
But, with out a new energy source they are both useless! These ideas are also very impractical as Mr D said about Hydrogen; We need to create it and that takes energy,? were are we going to get that energy? Now that is the big question!
I think car and oil companies are funding the hydrogen and ethanol hype as it is stalling us. Its making people think that we can just switch over to them and not have to reduce our consumption of energy. This is wrong. Both technologies are very impractical and would be very expensive to use, so if we ever use them it will be in a very few applications if any.
15 years ago Cali had electric cars which were so efficient that if you generated the power for them with coal burning power plants they would give off less CO2 per Km than a normal vehicle. They have their draw backs too, and because of that they are only appropriate for 90% of drivers. (dosn't sound to bad to me)
Check out the movie ??the death of the electric car?

if your interested in how hemp can be used to produce a much greater supply of ethanol than corn while using less space, read jack herers book "the emperor wears no clothes"
found at jackherer.com
its free to read.

In my previous post I was Implying (having never seen the device) that a simple device would separate the hydrogen from the oxygen in a ratio compatible for burning in the internal combustion engine. There was a film made in the '30's about a pill you could drop in the tank of water that transformed this into fuel. Again, having never seen this in person, I can only wonder if this is possible. If it is, can you Imagine the concern of the energy companies. Maybe this belongs in the conspiracy forum, but I whole heartedly believe if this was possible, the energy companies would surely want to keep it secret. Come on, Remember the Hindenberg, That was Hydrogen burning, If they can run a car on natural gas, or propane, why not Hydrogen. I'll leave it up to your imagination. The perfect fuel, water! Who knew!
